I'm a sucker for themed dining experiences, and during my visit to Epic Universe in September, Toadstool Café completely immersed me in the world of Super Mario. From the décor to the vibe, it felt like I had stepped straight into the game. The menu had so many creative options, but for lunch I decided to keep it simple and went with the kids' cheeseburger meal. Nothing fancy there, just a standard burger, fries, broccoli, and a little chocolate coin for dessert, but the atmosphere elevated it and made it really fun to enjoy. Later that evening, though, is where Toadstool Café won me over. I ordered the Princess Peach Cake and... clawd ham mercy! That cake didn't stand a chance. Moist cake, light frosting, perfectly balanced sweetness--I devoured the whole thing by myself. My only gripe is the $22 price tag for the small cake, but honestly, it was so good I can't even be mad about it. Between the good food, the incredible immersion, and friendly service, Toadstool Café easily earns 4.5 stars in my book. Located inside Super Nintendo World, it's themed like you've stepped into Princess Peach's kingdom, and the level of detail is insane. This is a solid spot for a more sturdy meal without going to a sitdown restaurant in the park. They have a nice variety of options, with great theming to boot. The atmosphere here is simply incredible and easily the highlight of the meal, that's not to say that the food was not good though. Firstly, it was shockingly easy to get in here for a group of 3 without a reservation, the servers have a very good system to find tables quick. The meal itself was great, the only fault I may have had was being far too excited to try everything and getting too many sweets. The mushroom soup lives up to the Mushroom Kingdom's name and was quite good. The tiramisu block was delicious, but perhaps slightly difficult to eat with the block cookies being difficult to break. The cake itself was shockingly good (and large), but perhaps suffered a bit from too much frosting sweetening it up a lot. The block was a decent tiramisu with the actual block being vanilla cookies. I got lucky and the line was not too long, and once you sit down, you order food on your phone, and set the table number on your order. Employees will then bring your food out when it's ready. Perfectly good place to eat at an amusement park. Toadstool cafe is located on the bottom tier of Super Mario world. Look for the giant mushroom and you'll find it. No wait service here or reservations, as it's all mobile ordering; luckily Universal has this down to a science, so it's actually better than if you had table service. They bring everything you order to you anyway using QR codes. Servers are friendly for wha that's worth, and the inside is spacious and cute. Food is decent as the rating would suggest. Garlic knots were solid. Caprese salad totally skippable. My Bowser meatball challenge was flavorful and formidable, however wouldn't get it again; hot sauce is on the side, and it badly needs pasta. Alfredo looked good, as did the grilled chicken special. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, especially the spaghetti and meatballs. Princess peach cake for dessert is huge but cute; tiramisu was a more moderate bet. Was it the best food at Epic Universe? Hell no. Maybe the worst of the situation down options. The cafe gives you two options to order at the front or on the universal mobile app. It will be delivered to your table. While in Super Nintendo World you have to try Toadstool Cafe! The line is similar to a ride. You notice the line outside the restaurant and this "oh that's not too bad", but then realize there's a very long line inside as well. We walked right inside, but waited about 30-40 minutes in the indoor line before we were seated. You order on the app and 'check-in' once you sit down. The whole experience is cool. The tables are chairs are chunky and oversized. There's screens showing toadstools walking around. I'm not sure that I've ever contemplated a toadstool's world before, but this definitely felt the vibe! I got the mushroom soup and an order of garlic knots. The soup was okay, I wish it was a tad creamier. It came in a cute bowl! My husband got the pesto chicken sandwich and said it was good. Don't waste your time going here! They do not tell you how long to expect when you get in line, but it was an hour or more overall. The wait before you are seated was at least 30 minutes. They have you place your order before you sit, but you can't even have them start making it until you are seated, which then takes another 30 minutes. My meal said ready and completed for probably 8 minutes before it was brought to us. We were worried it was given to someone else. When I tried to as a team member, he was so frazzled to be asked questions and told me it would be another 20-30 minutes even though it said completed- luckily he was wrong. The food was maybe a 2/10. Only things good were the mushroom soup, kids cookie and the tiramisu. The Luigi burger was cold and bland. The truffle fries were just frozen fries with a truffle dipping sauce. The kids spaghetti I couldn't even eat- the sauce was so dry from probably sitting that it was as if there wasn't sauce at all. The garlic knot with it was cold and dry. The place is cute but we left hungry and annoyed to have wasted over an hour. The general menu is a little more basic, I assume to cater to kids since it is in Super Nintendo World. I had heard that the Super Mushroom Soup was actually the only thing that's good, and I would agree! It was very yummy. Toadstool Cafe is one of the make dining-in options in Super Nintendo World. And just like Toad is known for being a little guy, I think this restaurant is far too small for the mass of crowds that will come to eat here. It seems like a really inefficient system. You order through the app, but then have to wait in line right when you walk in. Then, once they let you through the line, you walk to a new room to wait in yet another line where there's a bar for certain drinks, and you wait to get your table. Then, once you get to your table you scan it in the app and only THEN do they start making your food. We probably waited 20-30 just to get a table, then at least 30 minutes for the food. It was absolutely packed in there and it was just a preview day during mid afternoon not even prime lunch rush time. I am very curious how this will go when the park is open to all- it is super cramped. As for the food, it was alright. Nothing to call home for but it'll fill you up. I think the best thing is the creativity in naming and theming the food. We got the Luigi burger which came with a plastic Luigi hat and his famous mustache printed on the bun. It added to the fun for sure. It's definitely a cool scene inside and will make your kids heart or your own inner kid soar. They have screens all around with various Toads doddling around, and even once in awhile there's a little even that happens on them that can be entertaining. I'm glad I got to experience Toadstool Cafe at least once but it's probably one I'll avoid at Epic Universe now. read more

I got the hockey puck (Mario Burger). I do not recommend. My husband got the Bowser's Fireball Challenge which we don't think had any spice at all. We expected more with a name like that. This cafe is literally the cutest. I'm so in love with the decor, I mean how can you not. As for getting seated it was super quick I didn't have to wait long maybe around 5 minutes. For the food items, my sister and I got the Super Mushroom Soup, Yoshi's Fettuccine Alfredo, and the Super Star Chicken Salad. The soup is a little thick and has a strong taste of mushroom. I was disappointed with the salad, it was extremely salty. Out of all the food items the fettuccine alfredo was the best. To start, the line went really quick and the process was smooth but when the food started to come, we were missing 3 items of the 6. We try flagging someone down and when we finally got someone he said "I'll be right back" yeah, never came back. Flagged down the next cast member and he went to grab the supervisor. She apologized and said the order was lost but don't worry it will come out soon. I enjoy ordering at our table and I think it makes things so much easier now that Universal does this. The food came out pretty quickly too. Honestly, for theme park food I was very surprised! I looked up reviews beforehand and tried to figure out what would be best and we went with the Mario mushroom burger, spaghetti, and meatballs, mushroom soup, and peach cake. Everything was super flavorful and portions were very decent. One thing I didn't like was that tiramisu, but the peach cake made up for it because it was very light and fluffy. We went here for lunch and this cafe was SO CUTE. From the animated windows to the furniture. Self service as usual but the bussers were on top of it! We got... Bowsers fireball challenge: spicy well made meatballs that were very filling. The bowser shaped pastry was very fluffy. Once again, the Toadstool cafe was a very cute experience for us. We love the theming of this place and all the moving details that go into the cafe. It does get pretty busy in here but the service is still very good. This time we went only for the popular Peach Cake! It was the cutest thing when it came to the table! It came with an edible card from Peach herself and truly looked like something she would make! It was tasty, but I will say it was almost entirely whip cream unfortunately :/. The layers of cake are hardly and inch and the width and height of actual cake is made up by whip cream. The strawberry filling was also a very small circle in the middle. I usually wouldn't complain because it truly was tasty after we got around the whip cream, but for $24 I can't say I would recommend this very pretty sweet treat. One of my favorite places at the park. Food was good, but only good. Mario Burger was good, ingredients were fresh, but cheese was weak, and the beef patty wasn't anything special. The fries though, the truffle oil flavor was all over the place, from subtle on the good fries, to overpowering enough to make you quickly reach for a drink. My friend ordered the Luigi burger which didn't just have a lot of green bell pepper, it had a full ring 3/4 of an inch tall lol. Also the pesto wasn't pesto, it was chopped basil chucked on the bottom bun. Comically bad preparation. But I still give it a four because it's a theme park, so some grace is given. The place was clean, we were served fast, staff were very nice, and the theme/presentation of the cafe kicked ass. Decor was excellent, and the "windows" were well done giving you a view out to the mushroom kingdom and had an event that occurred that was pretty fun. read more

The food was horrible and cold. My mom ordered the Luigi burger and it was a bug, with a 1.5 inch cut bell pepper and a cold piece of chicken breast. There was supposed to be a drizzle of aioli or something but I think the bun soaked it up lol. If fun to take younger children, like 6 and below. Older children that enjoy food would not be impressed. Side note* a fire alarm went off as soon as we got our food. We had to leave the restaurant and we were not issued a refund.
