The birria tacos had no cheese, shells weren't dipped in the consome before cooking, and then were thrown in a box with lettuce, onions and salsa on top that made them soggy. This is located in the corner by a massage parlor. Has a few ways to order. It's about $18 to get the Free Style. Get your meal in any style of your choice. There's burritos, salads, and tacos. After this choose a protein. It can be meat or vegetables. After this choose a side. These include rice and beans, or whatever. Packs a lot into a container. They're generous with the big portions. So flavorful and SO much food for what you pay for! Service is friendly and quick, considering the food is made to order. It can be tricky to find parking but both times I've went, I've lucked out by finding street parking right out front. The outdoor seating area is very peaceful with the shady trees and koi ponds. Walk-up service with limited common seating outdoors on the Plaza. I ordered carnitas and a watermelon agua Fresca. So so good. Piled high with EVERYTHING: seasoned pork, beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, jalapeños. I could barely make a dent in it. So full but wanted to keep eating and keep eating and keep eating. It was delicious. Also the guys cooking and serving it up were super cool. I immediately dropped my entire meal the first time he handed it over to me and they redid the whole thing in a flash. Hands down my favorite restaurant in Hawaii. The food here was absolutely mind-blowing. I got some Birria tacos, and as soon as I took my first bite, I was transported to heaven. The tacos were extremely flavorful, and also extremely balanced since it came with some salad and salsas. The consomme was also magnificent. This is easily the best meal that I've had in Hawaii, and one of the best meals that I've had in my life. The portions are also huge - the platter could have easily fed two people, or one very hungry person like myself. I also got Churros from here, and although they were good, I'd give the Churros themselves 4/5 stars (good but not as good as the best Churros I've had). The savory platters are the real star of this place. The food here was so good that I came back at least five more times during my trip. This has even inspired me to learn how to make my own Birria tacos. read more

Well I've never seen one but know where you can find Tlacuaches 808 in Eaton Square tucked right on Hobron Lane just a couple blocks in Waikiki as soon as you cross either bridge to Kalakaua Ave. I had hope to a new discovery but was so disappointed and you'll probably say it's what I got thought still after a bit of analyzing can't get myself to understand how I can go back to try something else. It was decently late in the afternoon and after a lazy Sunday decided to get something for dinner and have been craving tacos or at least Mexican food though it would be perfect to swing by Waikiki since it was pretty mellow at this time of the day. Totally hidden and easily missed if you don't even know Tlacuaches 808 has a cute set up in the bar corner of Eaton Square right besides some koi ponds with a few seatings I thought was nice. Well after much scanning of their menu items I thought to keep it light by having their Taco Salad and couldn't resist trying their Jalapeño Popper Fries. The Jalapeño Popper fries was just that lol Jalapeño Popper with some fries *eye roll* it came with 7 poppers all made fresh and was wicked (temperature) hot but the fries strangely was meh...a bit under fried ate the poppers and threw the fries away. The Taco Salad...with a choice of meat (chicken, pork, beef, veggie or carne asada +$3.50) I decided to try the veggie and why not! According to the menu the salad consists of..."Freshly Made Tortilla Bowl filled with Choice of Meat, Rice, Beans, Lettuce, Cheese and salsa". I didn't feel like beans so I opted out on it. First of all there's no lettuce instead it was RAW shredded cabbage EWWW!!! The veggies seemed random including peppers and onion and some tomatoes which is standard but celery was disgusting for me personally the cheese ratio was insulting this salad was $16.96 which made it worse that I spent over $30 total and was still hungry. I really wanted to like it here the gentleman was nice nothing out of the ordinary but this was just a bad experience and I'm sorry this was no bueno. read more

HOT DAMN! This is a hidden gem that I wouldn't have found if I didn't have to be in this area every Saturday (usually). And boy am I more than satisfied. This time I got the Chilie Relleno Combo with chicken in the relleno and beef in the quesadilla. We also got the nachos. Everything was delicious and per usual the service was amazing! I hear by declare that the BEST Mexican food on O'ahu can be found tucked away in the charming and unassuming Eaton Square take-out spot of Tlacuaches808. Wow! We have been twice now and, on both occasions, have been blown away by the quality and QUANTITY of what they offer...not to mention the genuinely friendly service. On our first visit, having moved just around the corner, I picked up two Chicken Burritos and chips with guacamole. Good lord...the burrito was the size of a baby... and a fat baby at that. The chicken is so delicious, moist and full of flavor. Excellent inclusions for the burrito. We split one and at the other one the next day. I spied the Chile Relleno Combo special when I was there the first time.... and it had been haunting me... so this weekend we went back. The combo comes with a massive Chile Relleno stuffed with whatever you like... hello chicken... then dipped in egg batter and cheese. You know when cheese gets melty and crusty on a griddle? That... on Setting Eleven! A friend told me not to miss the carnitas.... and he was so right. The combo half of the combo was a Carnitas burrito.... thankfully a smaller version of the Burrito a la carte. Stunning... once again... portions so massive... we made two meals of it all. 4.5 stars! Fast and friendly service. We had the seafood enchiladas and chicken burrito. The portions were massive and the food was delicious! Everything was flavored well. The restaurant is way in the back of Eaton Square. You go through the gate next to the market and bakery and just keep walking. So this place is super close to my condo so I asked my two friends if they'd like to check it out. Oahu is just generally so behind when it comes to quality Mexican food but I had high hopes. Anyway, ordered the three tacos with beans and rice. Two shredded beef and one chicken. The shredded beef tacos were on point, really delicious. The chicken taco was good but not quite as good as the beef. Whole pinto beans, very tasty. Sadly the rice wasn't so good, definitely lacking flavor but mixed with the beans okay. Overall, I was surprised. I've eaten Mexican food all over California, LA, San Diego etc and this was good.
