The special plate that came with four different tacos..it is a lot of food!
    Brooke T.

We had lunch at Tlacuaches and really enjoyed it. It is a casual food counter with outdoor seating nearby, but the food is very good. I had the Ahi Tacos and my husband had the plate that came with 4 different tacos. The tacos were very tasty and the portions were huge. We also received our food very quickly, so this would be a good option when you don't have a lot of time.

Tucked in a corner @Eaton Square, Waikīkī

Tucked into the corner by the stairs at Eaton Square in Waikiki. Not visible from the street! Street tacos, Birria tacos, quesadillas, flautas, nachos, and burritos are on the menu. All made to order you can order online or go up to the window. The food is tasty and hearty! There are tables in the courtyard where you can sit under a tree and enjoy your yummy nibbles! It's hard to get away from the hordes of people in Waikiki... But you can actually have a nice quiet lunch here.... Street parking or paid parking at Villa on Eaton Square. Open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM and closed on Wednesdays.

Fabulous food! Huge amount of food and tastes amazing! Hidden in the back of Eaton Square Shopping Center, it is quite the find for authentic Mexican food.

Had some tacos from this unassuming window in a shopping center. It didn't seem like the kind of place that would be good. Tlacuaches808 was. A lot of choices from this small place. You can eat at one of the tables or get takeout. Cool that you can just order at a window, and take your stuff to any table and eat. It's kind of hard to find at first. This is located in the corner by a massage parlor. Has a few ways to order. It's about $18 to get the Free Style. Get your meal in any style of your choice. There's burritos, salads, and tacos. After this choose a protein. It can be meat or vegetables. After this choose a side. These include rice and beans, or whatever. Packs a lot into a container. They're generous with the big portions. Good place to look for. It's located in the Eaton Square Shopping Center on Hobron. There's a small menu but there's things for meat eaters and vegetarians.

Holy moly delish!! This place was amazing. We got the ahi tacos and the Baja fish tacos. So much food for a great price!! Def don't skip.

First time here. Asked if I could order a bean, rice & cheese burrito. Guy wanted to argue about how they do things their way. So I said ok if you won't order my burrito I'll order something else. He said he would do it for 18.95 $ no guacamole. OK. I the asked about fish tacos. He wouldn't tell me, instead reaching out his window past me to point out the sign describing the taco plate. I said I'll take one. He then dropped an order for a single taco. When I wanted the plate he rudely and emotionally pointed out. Disapointed is not the word. Offended is.

    Barria Taco and Carnitas plate

Tlacuaches 808 is the real deal. The service was next level amazing, our server basically treated us like royalty, throwing in extra bierria tacos, tortillas, and salsa for free. The food portions were massive, like "call a friend to help you finish" massive. Every bite was packed with flavor, and I left with leftovers that could feed a small village. If you want a place that makes you feel like you when stop by grandmas house for food, Tlacuaches 808 is your place!!!

Carnitas! More than ample. Two sauces!

Walk-up service with limited common seating outdoors on the Plaza. I ordered carnitas and a watermelon agua Fresca. So so good. Piled high with EVERYTHING: seasoned pork, beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, jalapeños. I could barely make a dent in it. So full but wanted to keep eating and keep eating and keep eating. It was delicious. Also the guys cooking and serving it up were super cool. I immediately dropped my entire meal the first time he handed it over to me and they redid the whole thing in a flash. So generous. Thanks, guys! I know where to go to get some real grub the next time I'm on the island.

    Birria Tacos + Comsomme

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Hawaii. The food here was absolutely mind-blowing. I got some Birria tacos, and as soon as I took my first bite, I was transported to heaven. The tacos were extremely flavorful, and also extremely balanced since it came with some salad and salsas. The consomme was also magnificent. This is easily the best meal that I've had in Hawaii, and one of the best meals that I've had in my life. The portions are also huge - the platter could have easily fed two people, or one very hungry person like myself. I also got Churros from here, and although they were good, I'd give the Churros themselves 4/5 stars (good but not as good as the best Churros I've had). The savory platters are the real star of this place. The food here was so good that I came back at least five more times during my trip. This has even inspired me to learn how to make my own Birria tacos.

The beef burrito very good size but needs less beans and more beef.

First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park!
