Tried Chicanos Street Tacos in Honolulu and it did not disappoint. I had the carnitas tacos and they were seriously flavorful--perfectly seasoned, tender, and packed into warm tortillas with fresh toppings. You can tell they put care into the food. I also got a horchata, which was super refreshing and had that nice sweet cinnamon flavor that paired perfectly with the tacos. Definitely a spot I'd come back to if I'm craving legit street-style tacos. read more

It was unfortunate that our timing was off when we arrived around 9pm. We were told they actually don't open until 10pm despite the posted hours, so the only thing available at the time was quesadillas. We thought the full menu would be available, but unfortunately it wasn't. We still decided to support because we were hungry, but the quesadillas ended up being overloaded with onions. Also, when we reviewed our Square receipt afterward, it showed $0 for quesadillas and listed "Burrito Chicken & Pork x2 ($15 each)," which we never ordered. Takeout Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Located across from the Convention Center, across the street from Sura, is a food truck called Chicano Street Tacos. Service was efficient, but my sister had to remind the guy about my horchata. He wasn't sure if he even had enough and didn't really say that it was available. He charged us for it, so we had to follow up on it. It was quite good! Even though there was a table and chairs along the sidewalk, we took our food home because it was a blustery, chilly evening with many cars passing by. I ordered three tacos: shrimp (I was reassured that it wasn't spicy), birria (turned out to be spicy), and pork. The shrimp was a bit overdone, but had a nice smokey essence. I took one bite of birria and couldn't take another bite. Ouch! The pork was okay. All of the tacos had generous amounts of chopped sweet onion and fresh parsley. The carnitas tacos were absolutely delicious! I found this taco place by accident. Drove by on a day that it was closed, came back the next day and I'm so glad I did. I tried tacos in different areas in Waikiki and Oahu but this was honestly the most delicious and authentic tacos that I had. Service was great, made to order. Salsa was also delicious with the perfect spice! Ambiance is not great, but you can take the food to go, or they have a little table on the sidewalk, it does suddenly get windy. The chicken street tacos are my fav here , what I love most about this place is not only the customer service since the guys who work in the truck are always friendly to talk too but also that they aren't skimpy with the portions they give! They really load the tacos up so if you ask me they are worth the price given so that's a plus in my book! Love street tacos... I'm not gonna comment on any authenticity but do know what I like and really wanted to try these cute street tacos so you know I was excited to see Chicano Street Tacos truck parked right beside Rockza and yes where do you park...I dashed from a parking next door when I saw that they were open and was excited to give them a try. I believe it's standard for the tacos to be sold individually and here it's $5 each ($6 for shrimp) which I think is a bit steep but let's give them a chance. Carnitas, Chicken and Carne Asada is what I got along with a Jarritos. I'm horribly sorry I just can't describe which is which though yes each are very different I just really wish that they list what comes with each tacos cause I have no idea and one of them had some heat which I loved but know some besties that have sensitive palate. Adding the right amount out of everything makes me honestly say i'm always honored when she's working knowing i'll get the best quality. everyone can make a good taco but she makes great ones! These mediocre tacos ARE NOT, I REPEAT ARE NOT!!! authentic Mexican street tacos!! The worker seemed defeated like he was tired to the point he could not fold the burrito right. The tortillas were dry barely any onion to cilantro; it was bad. They served us canned beans!! Not even real refried beans. I was able to park at rockza for a little bit to pick up my order. There was a man that came out and patrolled the parking lot because obviously I didn't look like a patron of rockza when I pulled into the driveway. I asked him if I could park here to purchase tacos and he said yes and walked to the other cars in the lot. Their food stall is actually on the front of the street where the sidewalk is next to catfish corner. There are two tables near the street if you choose to eat there. Their grand opening special had $3 tacos on 3/29. I picked up 2 tacos each that they had that was listed on their menu (shrimp, pork, and steak). They also have several fruit drinks and horchata available. When I arrived - there was just one couple before me in line. Shortly after a few others came. Probably since it was around dinner time. There was some miscommunication along the way but that was eventually resolved, so thank you for trying to fix the issues on the back end. read more

I didn't have a issue with my food till I got 3 tacos and I was charged for 4 and I also got two drinks a Horchata and a watermelon and they were about 6 ounces about $30 for all of them. I can definitely say I'm not coming back. I came just for the pastor cause it's only Saturdays only and they were completely sold out at 1pm. I couldn't even get any side dishes, like rice or beans. Sign said they open at 12 but when we went around 5pm, it was closed. I checked their Instagram and it said they opened at 6pm today. Came back around 6:30pm and the guy just got there and prepping the food. I also stayed for around 10 mins thinking they would be done but nope; they were still prepared for the night. Don't listen to the negative reviews, I can give an honest one as I work right next to the truck and eat there very often. This is place is AMAZING and so cool that it's open late til 2. I usually always get carnitas but have been having fun switching up the meats. You will not find a cheaper more authentic taco on Oahu!!! Noted: they have a sign up at their truck that says... close at 3AM... verbally, the guy said they were closing and it was only 2AM... so according to them, it's our fault, so I'll just take that L. But if they are going to proceed to accept us despite saying they're closing down.. they should at least give standard service... Food: alright 6/10 - Meat portion is all I could say that's great, nothing more - supposedly comes w/ garnishes but because we came late we didnt get any.. not mad about that. i'm upset we had to pay the same original price when we didn't have the full shabang. Drinks: 0/10 - we paid first so if I could, I would ask for a refund. Drinks tasted like straight up warm water with food coloring.. literally. We paid first then they made our 2 drinks, $5 each for a small cup of horchata and watermelon (came warm, no ice, no lid (they usually have lid but they were too lazy to give us.. only assuming b/c the dude stared for a minute, at the storage place where the lids were suppose to be at, & just said "sorry we're all out".. like bro, you can't tell me you're out of lids when I see 50+ cups stacked behind... how do you have uneven ratio of lids & cups?! You're a takeout truck with no dine in seats?! In all honesty, I call it greed or no respect with our money, if a business owner makes the drinks & see that its not up to the standards (warm & very very watered down) but still priced it as is and still gave it to a paying customer anyways... I grew up in northern CA & the only thing I missed most from the mainland was the tacos...finally after YEARS we have legit street tacos IN TOWN!!! The meat was cooked hella good && salsa was on point!!! It has flavor, and a kick towards the end. Service was also hella fast (went during peak dinner time) && the folks who work in there are cool peoples. On me, these tacos are the closest to home I've had on island! The woman behind the counter stated they wouldn't be open for another hour. 2nd time, show up an hour after opening on taco Tuesday and the gentleman behind the counter informed me that only chicken tacos were ready. 3rd time was last night. Their sign states open until 3am. I arrived at approximately 1:30am and a different gentlemen informed me they were closed. He had a very demeaning tone, as if he didn't want to work there. I understand being unhappy with your current situation but to take it out on clientele is very unprofessional. Love ! As someone who's from California I can say it's so hard to find good authentic Mexican food on the island. This place reminds me of home. The burritos are so big and you get a lot for your money. You can tell the salsa is fresh ( I love the green one) there's a little salsa bar so you can take your pick .
