I always prefer TJ Maxx over Marshalls, even though that's under the same owner. It's nice to browse around and without getting bothered by anyone. This is basically my neighborhood TJ Maxx, and I've shopped here on and off for years. To be honest, I think it has really gone downhill over the years, selection-wise and organization-wise. Nowadays, when I walk in, the sunglasses (a favorite purchase of mine) are nowhere to be found. I liked the sunglasses display when it was placed against the wall and it was easier to see the entire selection. Then, the sunglasses were moved to a vertical spinning display. And now, where exactly are the sunglasses?? Considering the fact I am also an accessories person, I found myself asking what's the deal with the wallet section? What happened to all the cool choices? Although I did like a couple of Anne Klein and Juicy Couture wallets, which I purchased recently, the other wallets were unremarkable and not on the level of past wallet options at this location. I do like the section with beauty items and soaps, but sometimes I've found the makeup is sometimes damaged by people who are eager to try the products. Clothing-wise, I think this location has been a disappointment lately, so I no longer care about looking for clothes here. So, what does that leave? The housewares section here is basic, but it is still possible to find something good - like picture frames, for example. And when you check out, sometimes the cashiers are really friendly and sometimes, you get a weird person with a subpar customer service disposition. I asked one cashier a question recently, and she answered. But she didn't answer my next question, and when I asked the same exact question again, she got an attitude. No Thank you! I just don't respect places or employees that choose to have their restrooms an absolute mess. So I swear this particular store was one of, and if not the best TJ Maxx locations in Houston (if that means anything). It's been around 3 years since I've last been here to shop for random kitchen stuff and it's gone quite downhill from that time onwards. Firstly, the shelves are in disarray and it feels slightly dystopian esque with how messy everything is laid out. TJ Maxx used to at least stand for somewhat well organized home goods amongst other random knick knacks but I struggled to find much to buy except a sponge holder for the sink. Honestly it is much easier and likely cheaper to just buy everything online with the current shopping experience. The clothing isle is pretty sad as well. My wife let me know that is because it has a 'The Runway' section, which sells luxury brands like Burberry, Gucci, YSL, and Stella McCartney. That being said, the discounted price was still very high, and seemed higher than what you could get from the brand's outlet store when on discount/sale. Still, definitely worth coming to, to see what new stuff comes in every week. read more

The AC has been broken here for over a week. They don't plan on fixing it apparently. Not unless people start calling the corporate office. They've put fans throughout the store, but they do nothing. This location ends up being the one that's most convenient most of the time, so I frequent here. Sanitation: Upon arriving they have someone in the front that will clean off the baskets. Yes, while you watch. Mask are worn by all employees. Store: This store is ALWAYS crowded. It's a neat, clean store that everyone seems to love. The lines are always long but they go really fast, don't be discouraged. Staff: Every single person is always smiling and friendly. Management does a great job with staff selection. I love the ladies in jewelry. They are always elders which I appreciate so much. Sometimes I find my self buying necklaces just get get their help and to talk with them. Jewelry is something I'm not a fan of, but yet it's my favorite section. Shoes: Large selection. Always organized. Shows always in the right place!! Customers: Always respecting one another's space. I love T.J. Maxxing. This location has it all: luggage (Burton, Diane Von Furstenburg), designer handbags, chic laptop bags, backpacks, shoes, home decor, apothecary items, sporting goods ... let the entire family loose in here and they'll come back to you with a cart full of "must-haves." Two years in a row, I've snagged $300 fancy, Southern Belle hats for the Kentucky Derby for a little over $100. I shop around at Nordstrom, Macy's, you name it, but this T.J. Maxx always has the fabulous look I'm going for. The purses alone are worth clearing out your bank account, but that's a different story. And the checkout service isn't as bad as this location as many others--especially as you drift off to the hood. If it's home goods you are looking for, yes, Marshall's Home Goods is next door, but they're a tad bit more pricey. The same Yankee Candles at Marshall's for $12 were about $7 right next door here at T.J. Maxx, so come here FIRST. That goes for pillows, comforters and towels. Pretty much anything! ...Salon-brand shampoos, Chi products, soaps and body lotions, bath salts, mani-pedi sets too. Skip Saphora and try this spot first. And on their website, it shows that this location offers layaway service and "The Runway At Maxx," which is basically higher end gear. My only problem with discount stores such as T.J. Maxx and Marshall's is that they exaggerate on your savings. You know the: Original price is $X T.J. Maxx $X I know my brands, and some cheapy stuff they have like Soda and Michael Antonio are "originally" marked up much more than what I've found at the mall. Now, that is not a commentary on my need to shop, but it's rather a commentary on both their display and products (not to mention value)! I have been able to purchase everything from hand-soap to work out gear, and it is THE PLACE to go for holiday gifts. They have awesome brand names, and for a cost that makes one go "OMG! this is mine now" leading one to snatch, grab, and walk with purpose to the checkout line. And, their checkout line is efficient. Nothing is more frustrating than waiting in a line that won't move- - but it moves here. A digital screen will indicate to which register one should head to - - it's awesome. I am often offered a TJ Maxx reward card, but I always refuse. I'm sure if I had more of a shopping addiction, then I'd get the card. Bargain prices and lots of good selection make me a happy shopper! There is a bit of everything here. Upon entering, there is a large selection of handbags and even some luggage to the immediate left. Searching through these aisles you can find some great buys for all price ranges. Today, there were lots of high end designer bags including Balenciaga and Gucci. These items are on display but you must request they be unlocked by an associate. The women's clothing selection is large. There's everything from under garments to cocktail attire on sale at deeply discounted prices. What I like most is the fact that the merchandise is first quality and reflects popular brands found in major department stores. The only section I wasn't too thrilled with was the shoe department. Selection was smaller than expected and the quality didn't compare to that of the clothes. There is also a dressing room and they offer lay away so you can buy now and pay later. LOL read more

The TJ Maxx world of houston is much higher caliber than that of Indiana. But I don't mean this in a good way. I mean this in a "wait, those clearance shoes are $300?!? Where am I?" I can see how this would be a positive for those looking to wear Chanel and other fancy fancy brands, but I turn to TJ Maxx for a simple combination of affordability and style. The Gray Road location is surrounded by fellow strip mall tenants and abundant parking. You'll also find the classic neighboring Home Goods next door. Bonus, right? This is probably one of the better T.J. Maxx in all of Houston because this location offers a pretty sizable "The Runway at Maxx" section. So you can get your usual T.J. Maxx basics and if you're looking for something a little extraordinary - they have you covered too. During my last visit here, I noticed a great deal of the higher end merchandised consisted of alice + olivia pieces, not the latest stuff, but fairly recent. The discounts are pretty great, but the stuff is still a little pricey. There was a good amount of other boutique and designer pieces here and there - sadly a significant amount of them seemed to be damaged (probably by shoppers, tsk tsk), but there was definitely some great deals for you ladies with a hankering for higher end wardrobe pieces and accessories. Juxtaposed to the designer area are a couple of aisles and a wall housing salon/higher-end bath and cosmetics. The salon products were especially well stocked in a very orderly fashion, the other stuff seemed a little lacking, but your mileage may vary depending on how soon you visit after a shipment. Also around the rest of the store, there were racks or sections of racks dedicated to Theory, BCBG, Max & Cleo attire. A decent size selection of the pieces were available too, so that was nice. Of course there are your usual T.J. Maxx offerings from department stores and whatnot - priced more inexpensively. So something for everyone - now isn't that nice? read more

Today, however, a manager (who was impatient and snippy) claimed they cannot give credit back to your credit card for items purchased online at TJMaxx.com with PayPal. Pretty sure I've done that at another location! She also snapped at the poor cashier who was actually trying to help (he too thought it could be done). Just a thought here--it's probably not optimal to have a "customer service manager" who is not interested in helping customers. This is one of the BEST TJ Maxx locations and the staff is always SO friendly. It's clean and not to mention, always has such great finds! Last December, I was walking out of the store and a glass Christmas tree that I had just purchased fell out of my bag in the parking lot (queue my tears as it shattered everywhere). My mom went back in to see if she could exchange it for another tree and the manager was SO NICE. Without question, he let my mom go get a new tree and since it was a smaller version, he even gave her back the difference in price. I did walk away with an intricate white bath rug with tassels on the sides, a gold Ellen Tracy geometric dish with a black base, and a boho looking container that fit perfectly under my coffee table. Whether or not she's really getting a steal, I'm not always certain, but the percentage off of the original price usually blows me away, the good way. I still don't understand how anyone could have possibly purchased a shirt by Marc Jacobs for $2,100 though. *Note from my wife - If you are into designer clothing, she has fooouuund (not bought) a few surprising items such as nice selection of Marc Jacobs clothing, Christian Louboutin shoes, and even a very nice Bottega Veneta purse. It really depends on when you go, it can be hit or miss. For the guys... 1. There is a decent sized men's section that you can look at some clothes. I've definitely gotten Nike and Adidas shirts and shorts for better-than-outlet sale prices as well as Calvin Klein dress shirts about 50% off. 2. When you get tired of looking at clothes, you can look at tech gadgets that you probably would never buy. It's like a cheap Brookstone section; it passes the time. 3. When you get tired of gadgets, you can go to the homegoods section and pretend you know what you're looking for 4. By the time you're done with all that, your wife or girlfriend or boyfriend will be ready to show you the luggage, shoes, nightstand, cooking bowl, dress, purse, sunglasses, and watch that they want your opinion on. Don't bother with Marshall's if you're shopping for luggage, this Maxx is better stocked, better organized, and cleaner (although I can't account for the rampant toddler I witnessed today, scrawling on some sales pieces with her jumbo pink crayon). Recently, I needed to upgrade my carry-on. I went to Macy's and got bilked, even though they smilingly applied an additional 10% discount off their "sale" price because we used our Macy's card. I recalled TJ Maxx offered a decent selection of luggage (Samsonite and Swiss Army are mainstays), so I decided to continue shopping around and viola! Scored at TJ Maxx. The same suitcase selling at Macy's for $189.00 on sale, was only $79.99 at TJ Maxx. Granted, the rub of discount shopping for luggage is you may not necessarily get your top color choices, but that wasn't an important requirement for me. I wanted a sturdy, roomy, easy to find (in case I ever had to check it) carry-on. TJ Maxx offered several choices that did not break the bank, met my requirements, and weren't too aesthetically atrocious. While I was there, I also managed to find: some lovely pieces by Helmut Lang, Catherine Maladrino, Vince, and Marc by Marc Jacobs, a pair of red patent leather Cole Haan pumps for $30, Guiseppe Zanotti stiletto booties, work worthy Prada pumps, firm and extra firm pillows. I'm the queen of bargain shopping...not only do I look for great deals, but when I find them and then put a crazy hot ensemble together I can tell you exactly how much I paid for each item. In this economy and with ever changing fashion, why spend ridiculous amounts of money on stuff you won't be wearing in 3 weeks??? TJ Maxx is great for getting garb, even some designer labels at crazily decent prices. I've found lots of great jeans, tops and even housewares for my bachelorette pad at great discounts. I often frequent this location during lunchtime. Parking isn't bad and I'm usually in and out within an hour. I've never considered reviewing TJMAXX, but today was different. Positively different. I'm giving this location 5 stars for the GREAT customer service I saw from the manager on duty. I didn't catch his name, but he was happy to be at work, enthusiastic to help customers and made it known that he was there to assist. As I was deciding on what shampoo to buy (always a struggle between BedHead + Paul Mitchell), I hear Mr. Manager asking customers if there's anything he can help find... Wishing people a nice day (a few by name)... and bringing carts to those that didn't have one. If people didn't have a smile on their face going in.. they definitely had one while shopping at TJ. Huge selection of high-end designers, including the occasional prada and gucci purses and Jimmy choo heels as well as more affordable options like Michael kors and Calvin Klein. TJX stores ship goods specifically to each store based on what sells the best, demands of the customer and revenue generated so yes, you'll find stuff here you won't find at other stores. I think this is my favorite location in the southwest Houston area. Large store, large parking lot. Great Runway section (Catherine Maladrino, Elizabeth and James, Theory, 7 for All Mankind, Joe's Jeans, AG, etc) and I like to get basic lingerie here because it's affordable and always has my petite size. I always like to walk through the handbags, belts (lots of Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole), and scarves (Cynthia Rowley). They have a decent home goods section and sometimes I find nicer/cheaper stuff here than the Marshalls Home Goods next door! Now that I live closer to this one, may have to return regularly to scope out bargains. They usually get a new shipment once a week so shop every 2-3 weeks to see their new inventory. read more
