I ordered a cheeseburger. It was very fresh ground beef. The cook made the patty just like at home. In a nutshell, the menu is very limited, but the food they do sell is fresh and good. Had the price very reasonable. One 1/2 pound cheeseburger loaded a bag of potato chips and a Pepsi $10.00 Also, I was given one biscuit with gravy to sample while I waited. The biscuit with sausage Gravy was awesome. Remember, it was a real homemade cheeseburger. I recommend eating here. read more

First and last time to eat there. Went to bathroom which you go through kitchen area and smells like backed up sewage. Don't know how the board of health leaves them stay open. Dirty and so nasty back there. Food was horrible. Fake gravy for a tiny biscuit. Breakfast sandwich tiny also. And then when went to pay they charged me $2.50 more than the menu showed. The ambiance is warm, inviting & has a laidback southern vibe (it's a cafe ) with a near perfect hospitality on the menu The only "negative" is that they only take cash (nope, not even debit). Great little spot but it needs help. It's family owned. If your looking for variety not the place, but if your looking for a quick Burger no fries just potato chips pop in. The coffee is pretty good and the service is very friendly, but that does not make up for all of Tipton's Cafe's shortfalls. And there are many. First, it's a quaint looking shotgun shack but if you value your bodily comfort, do not try to eat here. The counter seats are so close to the counter your knees will come away bruised. I'm only 5'4" and I was uncomfortable. My 6'2" husband was in pain. They have two tables in the aisle with 2 seats each, but in watching the people sitting at them, they seemed to have to duck anytime someone walked by. We were there for breakfast and my eggs were weirdly both overcooked and undercooked. Each egg was raw on one side and hard cooked on the other. I had asked for over medium. My bacon was the same, raw in spots and blackened in spots. My husband had the same issue with his eggs and bacon. He also ordered hash browns, which turned out to be a McDonald's style greasy patty. Ew. They only have soda in cans, so no free refills if you're thirsty. I think their claim to fame is they have very late night hours, and if you're really hungry and really drunk, you may not notice the bad food and painful seating arrangements. read more

Good, homemade diner food. They have daily lunch specials. Friday is Soup Beans and cornbread, beef stew on Thursdays usually, and for real Grandma's cobblers. I think I heard chili on Mondays. This family owned/operated place has been in business for 48 years. The two unassuming and attentive staff working were the owner's son and the cobbler Grandma's granddaughter. I didn't pry about their relative places on the family tree, but they were super nice and genuinely glad we enjoyed the food. I think a burger is $3. I'll definitely come back here and recommend it highly. I'm willing to wager you couldn't keep a coffee cup empty for more than one minute. read more

Very nice inexpensive restaurant to stop and rest while touring Andrew Johnson's Birthplace. This little place serves breakfast all day. They also have fried bologna. I had them add it to my grilled cheese with a slice of tomato. Boy was it good and brought back memories of my mom's grill cheese. The burgers are large and satisfying. Great place - about 14ft wide and 60ft long. Don't let the small seating area think there isn't great food here. Burgers are excellent and.. get a bowl of beans, slow cooked on the simple stove in the back of the store. If you visit Greenville - you have to stop in here for breakfast or lunch. See Tiptons has one long bar with about 8 or 9 barstools and it has 2 little bitty tables on the other side with 2 chairs at each. The width of the building is so narrow that I could probably barely lay horizontally across..no joke! But its that closeness that makes ur experience at Tiptons so unforgettable..And Tiptons is open 24hrs a day so whether u are coming in during the lunch shift to chit chat w/the office people & the counrty folk on their breaks or u come in during the midnight shift to be entertained by the rowdy youngsters trying to sober up or the cops pulling the graveyard shift u will leave with ur belly & ur soul full! The price is unbelieveable since u can get a breakfast special that includes made from scratch biscuits & gravy that will literally stick to ur ribs, 2 eggs how ever u want em', your choice of bacon or sausage patties then add a drink (free refills) and its under $10 but go ahead and have them throw ya a "grilled" doughnut on there too (yes I said GRILLED) and you still are under ten bucks! My girlfriend and I were in the area. We heard of Tipton's from Yelp, so we decided to scope it out. As soon as we sat down, the owner immediately asked if we would like a fried honey bun (something they are apparently known for). They had a daily special: beef stew with cornbread. The beef stew consisted of celery, onions, carrots, and extremely tender beef. Most of the beef stew I've had I did not enjoy, but this stew was incredible paired with the cornbread. It was beyond the texture of pot roast. These specials vary daily. I ordered a doughnut bacon cheeseburger (which comes with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and mayo. A man came in and was supposed to have an order already prepared. We offered up our burger patties in place of his since we were not in a hurry, Once the owner cooked our doughnut burger, she fried up an extra doughnut on the side and glazed it with maple syrup (for free). When we thought we were totally satisfied, the owner generously offered for us to try her famous fried honey bun (since we were too full to purchase one). The total for this entire experience was $9.50. For that price, if you are in the area, you'd be crazy not to stop by for a meal. She did, however, make me promise to come back some morning for some biscuits and gravy (another dish Tipton's is apparently famous for). read more
