A friend and I stopped at "The Gathering Place" Restaurant in Greenville, Tn on 06/14/2020. The waitress was pleasant as expected. I ordered the Meatloaf dinner, mashed potatoes and the waitress said I could have a side salad as a side so I ordered it (the price was $8.00). My friend ordered the Hamburger Steak, fries and side salad ($11.00). The food was very good except for the fries and they were only mediocre. When we received the bill I saw that I had been charged $1.75 extra for the side salad. I thought the waitress should have informed me that there was an up-charge for the side salad and I would have selected another side instead of the salad. The deal breaker for me was a posting at the front of the restaurant that said "meals could not be shared"! I am a Senior and am cautious as to the amount of food I eat. I think it should be left up to me if I decide to share a meal with someone. Also, children should be allowed to share meals as well. I have never, ever, been to a restaurant that did not allow me to share a meal with someone else. This more than simple minded and detestable policy of not allowing people to share meals is just not right. So, I ask that the owner/owners of "The Gathering Place" rethink their unusual and harsh policy of not allowing their customers to share meals. I have eaten at The Gathering Place before and enjoyed the food that I was served. But, I feel that their new policy of not allowing their customers to share meals is a policy that is offensive to their customers. read more

This was an amazing lunch that included a super waitress celebrating her 27th wedding anniversary. The service, the meal and ........BTW save room for the home made dessert..... were outstanding. We both had the homemade meatloaf but choose to add the onion rings as the side. They were also from scratch and beat any we have had in a long time. I dined here with my father about two weeks ago. It was a decent meal for a decent price. But I would not go out of my way to eat here again. The menu was sorely lacking but we ended up with beef in gravy. It was pretty good. The vegetable casserole was tasty and my dad enjoyed the cornbread. The cacaphony in the restaurant was deafening so we sat in the outside porch. It was a bit cool and the patrons going in and out added to out discomfort. Went back again...food was even better this time and the crowd was slightly smaller (we got there over an hour earlier). Still stuck at 3 stars however. Unfortunately, prices have been increased for 2020, so it's not "such a deal" anymore, but the food is good enough to justify it, at least on an occasional basis. Expect to spend around $15 for a special once you factor in soda, tip and tax (no dessert). Yes, if you're keeping score, that's getting into Farmer's Daughter territory. If on a budget however, you can probably get by for half that by ordering a couple side items and water. I'm not sure how often this happens, but they were out of the one of the three specials, making it a "one or the other" proposition. What makes this super frustrating is that we'd called to ask what was available an hour or so before attending, making sure what we wanted would be available. Of course that's what they were out of, or at least what we were told. Not sure what to think at this point as we got there well before the dinner rush. According to them, they'd totally sold out of one of the three specials between 3:30-4:30. This doesn't make sense...considering this is a restaurant that stays packed until closing every evening. My guess is there are some management / communication issues going on. Side note this is a cash only place forcing many who are there for the first time (who don't carry much cash) to have to drive to a nearby station to use the ATM. My guess is most don't return after going through that. We found this out because one of the people in our party doesn't carry any cash, but luckily we were there to float him. We saw others in front of us have to take the walk of shame however. read more

We arrived at the Gathering Place Cafe just after the lunch rush and were greeted by a server as soon as we walked in. It must fairly new since there is still a fresh construction smell. The best part of the Gathering Place was definitely the food. I wasn't too convinced they would have anything other than burgers, but I got a grilled chicken sandwich with a house made aioli and fries. The sandwich was great. The others in my party got onion rings... and I wish I had too! The onion rings were fresh and delicious. But Saturday, Oct 27, 2018 didn't even get the courtesy of a finger point. Several waitresses, hostess and even the owner standing at counter. Few available tables, but not one person, NOT ONE paid any attention to us standing waiting to be seated. Left after 10 mins. Consider training your hostess or hire someone to be at the door to seat customers. Poor management. read more

We were here for lunch. The restaurant is so cute...you feel like you are in a friend's kitchen. I had the fried green tomatoes. They were ON POINT!!! They gave me 8 thick slices, though I could only eat five. But the dish was only $5. There were four of us eating, walking away with two to-go boxes for only $27!! I think that's amazing! My whole party enjoyed their food and it appeared everyone else in the restaurant did too. It was one of those places where you oooh and aahhhh at all the plates being delivered around you. And don't get me started on the desserts! I didn't personally try one because I was full, but other patrons did. They looked delicious and were big enough to share.
