Walked in and met 3 hostesses. We explained we would like to sit at bar. One explained they had reservations for the bar so let her look. We thought fair enough however there was only one couple at bar and a lot of open seats. I went to restroom and when I came back my husband was still standing by hostess stand. Once she saw me she sat us at the bar. However we were sat in front of servers computer and drink station it felt very tacky. They had 3 seats reserved and a lot more open. We decided to let that go. Our server Cassie was very sweet and helpful. She explained the specials and was very attentive. Drinks were good, the food was phenomenal can't complain about it. Best dining experience in the Tri-Cities. Got the filet with root vegetables and it was so good. We live in Kingsport and there is a local steakhouse that ever told us to go to...not impressed. Gourmet & Co delivers with fine dining and food that matches. Our server was attentive and kept us informed why our meal took so long (they overcooked our steaks the first time) so they remade the entire meal and it was fantastic. Love this restaurant! Their hummus is so delicious and all their salads are so fresh and delicious! My favorite is the grilled pimento cheese. I love their apricot tea and oatmeal raisin cookies. So I'm headed to Johnson City for work and my partner finds this article about 10 best restaurants to try in what was named "little Chicago" (some Capone history here). First on the list is Gourmet & Co. Open Table had no available spots for my one free night of dinner, but the restaurant website said to call them if you run into that problem. I called. Dinner for 1? Anytime? No problem!!! 7pm bar seating and away we go! My bartender/server is excellent-- busy as hell, but helpful, attentive and a delicious drink slinger. I start w a dirty martini with goat-cheese stuffed olives. Wow! Who knew? And he made it just how I like it. The menu had such delicious soy ding options, but I'm dining alone and only have one stomach. If my chosen specials were indicative of the quality of all the dishes, a chef tasting menu here would be phenomenal to experience. But alas, I chose with me 'literal' gut-- what sounded good to my belly -- go local it said! So we start with the locally sourced mushroom cream vegetarian soup - 6+ types of mushrooms with lots of mushroom bits to much on while you enjoy. Then, another special - grouper, crispy skinned, on a bed of local veggies - more local mushrooms, pea shoots, garlic, radish, fennel, and swipe of herbaceous sauce painted on the bowl. Fresh, bright, delish! And can we squeeze in a bit of sweet at the end? Why, yes!!! -- Local strawberry hand pie... Local strawberries, goat cheese filling, creme anglaise, and charred lemon sorbet. The crust was light and fresh, with more creamier forward (less than strawberry forward) filling and the lemon sorbet show stopper. Wonderful! Of course I needed to order the oatmeal cookie martini to sip on as I wrote this review for you. And it is a mind twistingly accurate oatmeal cookie flavor! Wow! My wife and I just had the worst experience at Gourmet &Co in Johnson City. The peach scallop salads that we ordered were tasteless and overpriced. $29 per salad was a joke. The fried chicken dinner was also a bust. Undercooked Mac and cheese along with a piece of breaded chicken also for $29 dollars was what we were served. The staff didn't seem to care when we brought up our concerns. I'd avoid this overpriced restaurant at all costs. read more

The cookies here are phenomenal so definitely don't skip dessert. I ordered a couple of items to go and really enjoyed the chicken salad on croissant. Highly recommend ordering that sandwich if you want something fresh and filling (the croissant is huge). I wasn't as impressed with the buttermilk fried chicken salad. The chicken tenders were a little dry and seemed over cooked and the little biscuits that came with it seemed gummy instead of flaky. I didn't dine in, but I came inside to pick up my order (and got distracted by the baked goods inside) and the interior seems like a great atmosphere to dine in and enjoy the space. Made a reservation on graduation weekend for the patio. When we arrived we were told that the patio was closed, and our reservation did not specify the patio anyway. I would like to consider myself somewhat of a salad connoisseur so when I say this is the best salad I have ever had, that's huge! Everything about this salad was amazing. The goat cheese, the dressing, everything was absolutely delicious. The truffle fries were also so good! I have passed by this restaurant so many times and not realized what a gem it is. My evening at Gourmet and Co. was simply fabulous. From the hostess who sang "fabulous" with us as we waited for our table, to our waitress Andrea, to the owners who made sure to connect with us as we left, the evening was picture perfect. My date chose this restaurant as our first date. He couldn't have made a better choice. We ate outside under a full moon and exquisite mood lighting. The food was phenomenal. He had mushroom soup followed by fresh grouper. I started with the duck confit and was so pleased with the shrimp and scallop entree. The restaurant boasts a robust wine list. We ordered a bottle of Riesling and it was a perfect complement to everything that we ate. I can't say enough for the professionalism of our server Andrea. She knew that this was our first date, but managed to give us space as well as check in on us at exactly the right times. She was cheerful and so pleasant. We will be back. My wife surprised me with a birthday dinner at Gourmet & Co. When I saw the exterior I was a bit apprehensive since it was located in a small strip center and very understated. She kept insisting that the interior would surprise me and she was 100% correct. Don't judge a book by its cover. The restaurant was quaint, very beautifully decorated and sophisticated. From the moment we were seated to the end, the service was spectacular. Our server Lindsey was amazing, so attentive and very pleasant. The food was exceptional and did not disappoint. Johnson city gem! Really good, fresh food. The tomato and basil soup is outstanding and matched perfectly with the grilled pimento cheese sandwich. The pea humus is also delicious, with plenty of cumin and a little bit of heat. All washed down with some delicious, unsweetened peach ice tea. Great service and great value too!! This is the most overpriced restaurant in Johnson City. A 5 ounce pan-seared haddock for $38.00 in a bowl of boiled vegetables with little taste. My wife's salad with salmon was done well. My first and probably last visit. May try lunch sometime. read more

Best seafood dish in town was the lobster & scallop dish w gnocchi. They change the menu every season so it will prob be replaced soon w their upcoming winter menu. I can see why this place has such great reviews! This is my first time in Johnson City, and I just picked one of the nearest restaurants from where I was at and came here! It did not disappoint either. First off, my server was absolutely wonderful. I travel for work and usually order in because I hate going to restaurants alone, but Luisa made me feel so welcome and didn't make me feel so alone! She even convinced me to try the amazing apricot tea, and made sure my glass was always full! Thank goodness she told me to get the BLT becuase I never would've ordered it without her suggestion! I had the mountcastle sandwich..delicious..w a side of fresh fruit that came w a delightful surprise of a dollop of what seemed to be homemade ricotta cheese. This is a wonderful place to go for lunch and dinner. During nice weather they have patio dining. I recommend their tea- it's apricot tea and fantastic. They have one of the best cheeseburgers.
