Loved this coffee shop that I found just before they closed on Saturday evening (headed to a show at the Capitol Theater!) The staff was friendly & obviously proud of their shop & its motto. They truly seem to care about local issues & causes. A recommendation from my older brother, I have already gone here more than once on vacation and it's only 3 days in. The coffee is served in these ceramic cups, and the whole shop is quaint, very peaceful. It's a perfect Christian cafe in town. You can definitely tell it's a Christian coffee shop because of the music, displays, and even souvenirs you will come across there. It can be difficult to know what song is playing if you are looking to discover new gospel music, but the what they do play is quite soothing. The baristas who work there are friendly and really help sell the image this shop is going for. You could come here any day and be greeted as if you were one of them, and I say this as someone who lives far away from Tennessee. So far, what I've had here is pretty good. Warmed up chocolate muffin, an apple turnover, and the Elvis Frappe. They're all done quite well. This is definitely worth a visit or two if you are in this area. read more

Excellent local coffee shop located on Main St. and accessible from the General Morgan Inn. They have a variety of drinks and it's obvious that they use high quality coffee beans. If you want quality, independent coffee, this is your spot in Greeneville. In addition to having great coffee and food, the shop seems to be dedicated to good causes. As evidenced by the name, Catalyst, it's a catalyst for those missions. The shop has seating in two separate rooms and the area where you order. These are kind of hidden from view when you walk in. Very nice space. Since it's inside the General Morgan building, it also has a unique historical setting. Overall: highly recommended! read more

We stopped by while traveling through town. What a great coffee shop. They have their story posted on the wall along with other Christian uplifting signs. They play Christian music which is also very soothing. We had Americano with raspberry and hazelnut and plain brewed coffee with an everything bagel and raspberry white chocolate scone. The coffee and food were both served quickly and tasted great. We sat in the front window and watching the soft rain. It made a great way to start the day traveling. Highly recommend! read more

I absolutely love this coffee shop I stumbled upon this GEM. It is so uplifting to go into a coffee shop that promotes Christianity and they do it in such a classy way they have a prayer wall Where you can leave luggage looking tags with an inspirational message. Always friendly staff here and I enjoy the soothing Christian music they play. Clean bathrooms and sitting areas as well as plenty of windows to let in natural light. I usually get the dark roast and have not had a bad one yet. I miss the lunch menu items they used to have but their snack items are tasty - I especially enjoy a warm cinnamon roll. Also, if you have a portable super computer that you worry about over-heating or need to take an ice bath but hate getting into an icy tub, this is the coffee shop for you as the temperature is well below a comfortable setting if you are here for too long. read more

I walked into this business this morning for the first time to get a cup of coffee before work. The woman that worked there saw me walk in and come up to the register where you place an order. She just looked at me and looked away and went about her her business on whatever she was working on. I don't expect her drop everything on the spot. She could have greeted me and said "good morning I'll be with you in a moment" or at least something like that but she just ignored me. About 2 or 3 minutes I finally had to speak up and say "Hello, good morning." She still didn't respond in a timely manner. When she did respond no smile and her tone of voice wasn't even friendly. She just said "I'm serving that customer over there right now" and that's it and disappeared into the back. There were only two other customers in there so it's not like she was slammed busy. All I wanted was a cup of coffee to go. I waited for about two more minutes and she still never reappeared so I walked out and left because I had to get to work. She was completely rude. I could understand if I said or did something to provoke her but I didn't. Never going back again. read more

We stopped in for some lunch and something warm to drink. We ordered our lunches, a hot cider, and a regular coffee. The cider came out, I reminder the girl about my coffee. Our lunches came out, I reminded the guy about my coffee. We finished our lunches. After 25 minutes, still no coffee. I went to the register and asked for my coffee that I had requested several times. I was told "Oh, we had someone quit and walk out today, because 'she didn't feel appreciated. Did you want that for here?" First, your staffing issues have NOTHING to do with your ability to pour a cup of coffee. Second, you NEVER tell a customer anything like that. EVER. Third, and this one is pretty important, so pay attention guy at the register: Chemex coffee and pour overs are NOT the same thing. You probably also shouldn't tell the customers you were serving as we were leaving "yeah, I don't really know how to make them or what the difference is". Buddy, YOU WORK IN A COFFEE SHOP!!! And finally, thanks for not putting the lid on my coffee (that is over roasted). When I stepped off the curb, the lid flew off and the coffee went all over me and burned my hands. Best place in town for coffee. Well, I mean it was the only place I even saw around downtown for a cup o' joe. I have to say that it was delicious! I only ordered a simple drip so I could sip up and then finish on my merry way. But the interior is breathtaking. I love coffee shops nestled in old historic buildings. The high ceilings in here expose so much natural lighting to set you up for any kind of homework or reading, etc. And the service was friendly. Hey, it's not like Catalyst is the best cafe I've ever been to. But you'd be nitpicky to try and find something wrong. And I do think it's the best spot in the entire town. read more

One thing I wish they would do is make their chemex method more prominent- I always forget they have it. If you are ever in Greenville, this is a definite stop that you need to make. When you stay at the General Morgan Inn they give you a card good for $7.00 at the coffee company. I had 2 coupons and laid them both on the counter. I ordered a Ham egg & cheese sandwich and an apple turnover. I was told I still owed over $2.00. I told the girl that one coupon was for the sandwich and the second coupon was for the apple turnover. She said she had already rung up the sale and I owed the balance. I told her to just give me my coupons back and forget everything. She refused since she had already rung up the sale. I am not used to having people STEAL from a 79 years old man, but she sure did. We walked out with nothing and they STOLE from the General Morgan as well as me. read more

My only complaint was that my food was lukewarm. It seemed like my food may have been finished and sat for a few minutes while my wife's pancakes were completed. On a cold morning, I would have preferred a hotter meal, the grits weren't warm enough to melt the butter, and the toast was cold, so I didn't even attempt to butter it. That said, even with the temperature issue, the food was still very tasty, and given how cold it was outside, I'm willing to let it slide. Everything arrived quickly, and the restaurant itself is very quaint, set in an old home that is very clean. On our first visit, they offered chocolate chip cookies to go, and they were excellent! They didn't have any this time, but we'll be back again to try our luck. To those about to nosh, I salute you!!

Another hiker and I decided to stop in as we got to town and have a late lunch. It had been a couple of days since we'd had town food and we were tired and hungry. The first thing I noticed was the wait to be seated. We waited about 20 minutes, and once we got to the dining area, there were several empty tables. Once we're seated and ordered, the food came out timely and was delicious. I had a cheeseburger and the cherry cobbler with ice cream. Day 2: Breakfast. Since the food was good, we decided to go back for breakfast again the next day. Again, there was a wait to be seated. We were a group of 5 so we expected there might be a wait. The waitress was friendly and our orders were placed quickly. it did take a while for the food to come out from the kitchen. I had a country breakfast plate with ham. Again the food was delicious. Day 3: Supper. We had a relatively short wait to be seated this time. We were seated and asked for some water. It took over 20 minutes to get the water. Finally a different waitress came out and took our order. I ordered the hungry hiker challenge. It is a cheeseburger with three 8-ounce burger patties on it. The menu says if you finish you get some free cobbler. While we were waiting for our food we noticed that a local who came in and sat down after we were seated had already been served and was done eating before our food arrived. I finished the burger, and some of the other patron's noticed and congratulated me. When the waitress arrived she asked if we needed anything else. I asked if the free cobbler came with ice cream on it. She said no, so I ordered ice cream to go with my cobbler. It was a peach that day. Again, the food was delicious. The main thing that I notice about the restaurant was that despite having great food, service was pretty slow. One of the hikers I ate with noticed that the waitresses seemed to have to seat the customers, take the orders, deliver the food, clean the tables, and handle the check-out at the end of the meals. It seems like the service would have been much quicker if they had someone handling the seating, check-out's, and possibly bussing and cleaning tables. The worst part of the experience was the long waits to be seated and for the food to come out. The food itself was great and I found the servers and other customers to be friendly. The furnishings were clean with a 1960's diner feel. Overall, I would hesitate to go back if I were in a hurry of any kind. If time is no object, the food is great.

Next time, I'm leaving room for pie. I don't believe we had just one waitress. It seems that in this quaint little Diner, everyone is looked after and checked on as a whole by staff. My Ball jar of sweet tea was never any less than half full, and that sweet tea was *chef's kiss*. We both decided on the meatloaf, and I opted for cornbread, green beans and pickled beets. I felt like I had been transported back in time and was being fed by my great great grandmother. Sounds a bit dramatic, I know. But I haven't had cornbread, meatloaf or beets like this in so many years. It did not taste like restaurant food, it tasted like home cooking. We're already planning our next little "run away from life and parenthood" to Hot Springs, and Smoky Mountain Diner is top of the "will definitely visit again" list. After being seated, the staff came over and let us know the kitchen was switching to lunch, which we planned to get. I opted for the Light Lunch, with a half BLT and cup of chicken noodle soup. My partner ordered the Ruben with sweet potato fries. They are definitely worth the small up charge! We ended with a slice of homemade carrot cake which was large and delicious. We ended up bringing half of it home.
