Stopped in on the way North. Seemed like the locals frequent here. I ordered the meat loaf. Baked sweet potato and collards. Husband got catfish, cornbread salad and potatoes. I think the meat loaf was warmed up from 4 days ago. It was hard around edges and not very good. The collards and sweet potato were good. My husband said catfish was good. The service was good. Well like most places the prices have went up considerably since I was here last, but have to say the quantity and quality of the food was worth it. Huge plates and while it was simple southern frying it was all done well. Fried green tomatoes were just the right thickness and the cornmeal batter was well seasoned. Only complaint was really the service. Waitress took our order and then delivered our food (giving the check at the same time), then we never saw her again. Had to flag down another waitress to refill a tea. I had the all you can eat catfish for $21. Which luckily they put all I could eat on the first plate or I would have been a pit perturbed that I didn't get to order more. Drinks are brought out in huge glasses so only one of us needed a refill, but we just felt a little forgotten. I ordered a sides plate, mushy green beans, good corn, average sweet potato, ick side salad. 4 of the 6 of us liked their food. Only one of us ordered the unlimited catfish- grilled ( a plus) with seasoning on the side. Stopped by Mountain View Restaurant for a quick lunch. Had the catfish lunch special and the price was great, lots of food for little money. Fried catfish was hot and crispy, coleslaw was one of the best I ever had, French fries also hot and crispy. From time I entered to the time I got my meal was less than ten minutes. The waitstaff is very nice and quick.The building is right off highway 11 and there is plenty of parking. Lots of locals eating there and that's a good recommendation. This place was delecious. I had the Thursday BBQ pork sandwich. You can really taste the smokey flavor on it, unlike other restaurants. The bbq sauce was good and had four different flavors. The onion rings were spectacular as well. Judy was our waitres, and wow, she did a great job. She was extremely nice, paid attention to our drinks, and gave her suggestions. I really wanted to like this place. Its a local spot, and off the beaten track, which is what I usually go for. However, the food is just not up to par. I went twice to see if maybe they just have an off night, however two was enough with this place. Customer service: It was pretty good and really the only reason I would give this two stars and not just one. Value: Portions were small, but the prices weren't bad for the area. I'd rather have paid more for better quality however. Food: Here is the trouble, the food just wasn't particularly good. The first time the burger was dry, overcooked and not seasoned. The fries are frozen and pretty basic. Meatloaf was mostly tasteless, with ketchup squirted on the top. If it had been baked with a ketchup glaze, maybe it would have helped. Greens were from a can and didn't taste fresh in the least. Mac 'n Cheese might have been been better described as Mac 'n Sneeze. Pasta was cooked to near mush and the taste was bland overall. The onion rings were on point, crispy and not too much breading or greasy. The fried pickles were very good, and a very generous amount. I couldn't make a dent in them. My husband asked if I was going to take my jar of pickles with me. I couldn't finish my first plate. I didn't ask for more. I took enough with me for another meal. Everything was excellent. After reading the favorable reviews here I had high hopes for a great meal. My expectations started slipping when the waitress brought out some liquid butter for our baked potatoes in a yellow mustard squeeze bottle. Went to this restaurant for the first time today. My wife had the catfish which she said was very good. I had the Alaskan whitefish which was extremely overcooked. I got it grilled with lemon pepper seasoning and it was cooked to the point of being rubbery. The side dishes that I had were really good (sweet potato and baked apples). If you like fried cat fish than you'll love it. It's a deep fried fish with lots of breading. A little Oily but with lots of tarter sauce or ketsup it goes down well. Always has lots of cars in the parking lot so that says a lot. But surely nothing to write home about. read more
