Pork and shrimp dumplings
Nina C.

Made my way over to tipsy dumpling for a Friday night date night. The online reservation system wasn't working so we decided to just show up and see what happens. We arrived around 7pm and there was a 45 minute wait so we put our names on the list and found a local wine bar while we waited. The menu was a little confusing as there were no descriptions for the different types of dumpling, but the kind server described the differences and gave us his recommendations. We started with the cucumber salad which I've already tried to re-create at home. Absolutely delicious, and we were drinking the sauce by the spoon. The dumplings were also some of the best dumplings I've had, we ordered the pork soup dumplings and then the pork and shrimp dumplings. The soup dumplings were definitely a hit and the chili sauce that comes with it was a 10/10. We also ordered the Mongolian beef which we both were not a fan of. It was way too sweet and lacked flavor. We're big Mongolian beef and chicken fans so this was a disappointment. I also ordered myself the Jade and aloe cocktail and it was just alright. I think the star of the show is their soup dumplings and kind servers.

We were seated right away, which was a great start to the experience. The restaurant has a cute, modern interior, and I especially loved the screen showing animated dumpling-making. Another nice touch is that part of the kitchen is behind glass, so you can actually watch the team preparing the food. For food, we ordered the veggie dumplings, crispy chicken wings, General Tso's chicken, and chicken chow mein. The veggie dumplings were excellent--you could actually taste the vegetables rather than just the seasoning. The crispy chicken wings were flavorful and cooked perfectly. The General Tso's chicken and chicken chow mein were both delicious and satisfying. The drinks were also well balanced and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. Overall, great food, fun atmosphere, and a pleasant dining experience. Would definitely come back!

Dumplings (the non-soup variety)

Love the dumplings, loved our server, cocktail was solid, atmosphere was great. It's really fun to see the hard work that goes into making fresh dumplings. 10 out of 10. I'd love it if they had even more dim sum style dumplings and noodle rolls so that's the only reason I removed a star. It's somewhat limited in the type of dumplings offered. Otherwise, great!

We came in I believe it was a Tuesday and there was no line! I was informed by the person in the front that it would about a 30 minute wait. I waited 45 minutes and decided to go in and ask and it seemed like they had forgotten to call me because I asked and all she said was "oh yeah we can get you seated now". We got seated. We ended up ordering vegetable chow mein, Mongolian Beef, sweet and sour soup & dumplings. The sweet and sour soup was good it tasted like any other one i have ever had. The rest of the food was okay just needed more seasoning or salt? Honestly the dumplings were ehhh, they tasted almost exactly like the ones you get at Trader Joe's but I like the ones at Trader Joe's better. I'll say the outside of the dumpling was a better consistency but flavor wise I would just rather got to TJ. Overall the food was okay but for the price and flavor I suggest taking a trip to Novato to eat at China Village. My server was pretty nice but since they were very busy she forgot to put in my order for the dumpling so we finished eating and then asked about them and she told us she had forgotten to put it in so it took a while.

I got here 5-10min after they opened on a weekend. The outdoor patio was really spacious! Inside looks spacious as well. The service was good. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is that the dumplings could have a bit more flavor. The size of them were good size and the skin of the dumpling was good. The soup and flavor of the dumpling could be a bit more flavorful. It was a bit bland. I wanted to try their entrees, but for one person would be a lot. Price wise.. for one person it is pricey. When I compared the price to other dumpling places, some of the prices are about the same, but some dumplings are more expensive. For an order of Xiao long bao and an order of steamed dumplings, the total plus tip came out to be about $40 for one person. Expensive for one person, but if you split with others, won't be as pricey. Overall, not bad, but not great.

Finally our very own dumpling spot in Marin. I enjoyed the combo with the shrimp and pork... Don't sleep on that amazing Hot/Sour soup. Attentive service and staff are on top of it. Plus a full liquor license will of course, add to the adventures to come. This old "Patxis" spot offers plenty of parking ( for now ) and I imagine that you'll have to wait and / or need a reservation, from now on. Don't miss out. They tell me that they plan to execute a more refined menu with more complexity in the coming months -so stay tuned!

First time at this place, I must say their dumplings are pretty good. I feel it's a bit pricey though, I did a to go order to try it out. It's been open for two week and the place is pretty busy. The girl at the front was friendly and nice. I really like the vibe and the look of the place while waiting for my order. Finally a dumpling place in Marin. The dumplings are tasty, dipping sauce has good flavor. Got to go back and try other entree. I give it my thumbs up!!!!

AMAZING new restaurant in Greenbrae!! We went on the first Saturday they were open which was a week ago. The service was outstanding, as though these folks worked together for years. First up was chicken chow mein. A taste sensation! Tasty rice noodles with sliced chicken breast and fabulous sauce and veggies. We then split the veggie dumplings. I've never tasted a dumpling that was this fab. Just the perfect dumpling filled with corn, carrot, greens, and dipped in sauces if you wanted. Sooo good! Our waitstaff was fantastic and I'm ready to return. Loved it!

2nd visit to Tipsy Dumpling tonight and while the 1st visit last week was magical they were definitely suffering from opening month jitters tonight. Positives only, because I believe you should level-set your expectations with new places. Drinks are great. Best Lychee and espresso martinins around. The dumplings are great. That sweet and sour fish is a total showstopper. When the server brings it out, most tables just follow it through the restaurant. We're already planning our next visit to try more things from the menu.

Glad to have a proper stand alone dumpling place here in Marin! From the ambience/ interior and the beer garden/ outdoor patio behind the building to the food and drinks themselves this is a solid win with their namesake dumplings, cocktails and Chinese dishes we all enjoy like orange chicken or sweet and sour pork. For drinks I got a non-alcoholic mandarin Spritz and my girlfriend got a lychee Martini. Both well balanced and flavorful! The cucumber salad in a citrus vinegar sauce was good but I wish the pieces of Cucumber were cut smaller/ spiralized instead of cut into individual pieces. The stars of the meal by far were their namesake pork soup dumplings (it's listed on the menu as Xiao Long Bao) and the orange chicken. You put a dumpling on your spoon, bite it to release the soup, drink the soup, then eat the remaining dumpling shell. Combine that with the hot chili oil, soy sauce or rice wine vinegar provided and it's a match that's hard to beat! The orange chicken was cooked perfectly, still crispy with that sweet syrupy burnt orange glaze/ sauce. Executed well and delicious! We also got the beef and onion steamed dumplings but they missed the mark in my opinion. For a new restaurant they're doing many things well but still continuing to tweak the food and service which is to be expected. I hope they do well and stick around! I will definitely be back!

Boiled Dumplings - Beef & Onion
Chris B.

This was our first time after it just opening and I was impressed by all the dishes. The chow mein was flavorful and was juicy but not oily. Beef and broccoli was cooked perfectly and then of course the dumplings did not disappoint. The Beef and onion ones surprisingly was our favorites. They had a lot of food runners and bussers which made for the service to be great. Very happy with the staffing levels. Looking forward to coming back.

heard that they just opened and been always busy. i tried to walk- in without reservation and try my luck since im just by myself, accomodated by a kind man maybe he is the owner/manager? got seated to a 4 person table since the reservation wont be in an hour and he wad able to squeeze me in. its a fairly big place with outdoor seating for sunny days like this. it got decent wine list and cocktails. tried the lychee martini and its good. ordered the basics like spicy wontons and xlb. finally found chonquing spicy crispy chicken!! my ultimate favorite at any szechuan restaurants! its not as flavorful as i would hope for but its still good, probably good for me for having less sodium. everything is good considering its newly opened and for being booked and busy for the past week. so many staffs and servers been great and helpful. would love to come back and try other items.

Porcelain Peach Fizz
Kristi B.

This was their opening weekend and they didn't disappoint. My partner and I dined there for a late lunch - they were busy but we didn't really have to wait. We ordered two cocktails, the Moon Gate and the Porcelain Peach Spritz - both were tasty for the right reasons. As far as food - I had a cup of the hot and sour soup and it was hands down one of the best I've had in Marin county. We shared the appetizer Sichuan Chili Oil Wontons and an order of the Kurobuta Pork XLB. Both were fresh and delicious! They are doing things right with their food. I hope this place keeps their quality moving forward, it's incredibly nice having a GOOD dim sum place in Marin county. My only complaint is that the service was a bit slow but I'll give them a pass since it's opening weekend and you gotta learn the ropes.

With so many other dim sum options in the area I knew to go with my friend's rec. I didn't want to get anything greasy or preserved meat that she can't easily digest so went with the congee, turnip cake and char siu bao buns. Came out to $14. Cash only. Not sure if the lady who took my order charged me for the bag. Food was hot and delicious. I didn't add any soy sauce to my turnip cake and it was flavorful nonetheless. Update: because they don't give you a receipt I don't know if they charged me for the bag. I got rung up yesterday and lady asks if I have a bag. I said no. Today I brought the same plastic bag back and handed it to her. Guessing they charge for bags if they ask if you have one. - Congee - 4/5, good post op food to easily digest, with protein and for hydration. - turnip cake - 5/5, no need for soy sauce. Perfectly flavorful on its own. - char siu bao - 4/5, more bready than I would like. - chicken in sweet rice wrapped in lotus leaf - 5/5, good flavor, wouldve been nice with more chicken.

This is my go to place in Walnut Creek if I crave for dim sum. The food is ok although the price is a bit higher than Oakland or SF Chinatown. I am glad to see that this place has good business during lunch since there aren't that many choices for dim sum in Walnut Creek and I want them to stay in business. The restaurant is clean but in my opinion it can use a remodel or some new furnitures. I have been coming here since it was called Shanghai Gourmet before. If everything was equally good, I'd give them more stars. The downside is that some of their food comes out cold. Why? I have no idea. This has happened to us before and this time it was the shrimp noodle. They also take a while to bring out your dishes, but some still come out cold? Service is friendly, and it is good enough for us when we don't feel like driving to East Ocean in Alameda or Yang Kee in Davis, which are both a lot better.

The building itself is so unassuming, you'd never expect a great dim sum place to be here! Came on a Saturday mid-afternoon, and fortunately, did not wait too long for a table. Their siumai and hargow were so plump and juicy! Usually they're tiny at dim sum spots. Everything else was good as well! We even took some home to our families.
