I was pleasantly surprised how good this restaurant was. It reminded me of eating at my abuelitas house when I was a little boy. Just good homemade food no gimmicks. The place looks kind of divey from the outside, but don't let that deter you. I ordered the Chile Verde with rice and beans, the food tasted fresh and delicious just like abuelitas cooking. This is is the type of place most would call a "hole in the wall" but eh, it's not quite a hole in the wall. The restaurant has ample space, plenty of tables, mexican TV, lots of waitresses and EXCELLENT food. The only other place you can find mexican breakfast this good is in OC and that is way to far for me. I almost always get the chorizo bfast but I also love the menudo (it has excellent flavor), and I also love the Caldo de res (beef soup). The caldo is the B-O-M-B! Huge pieces of beef, every bowl served with a soup bone and the meat is tender enough to bite through. My only complaint is I like yellow corn tortillas and they serve white corn so I usually opt for the flour tortillas but they are a bit too thick for my liking. You are always served chips and two types of salsa. My favorite is the bright red on that has a smoother consistency - I love that stuff and I know you will too! I think I'm finally starting to accept that Dallas does not have a decent Mexican food scene. With all the rave reviews, this place has been on my radar for a while. This weekend I happened to be in the area so I dropped in at about 2pm. The place was packed and the getting seated was a little disorganized. But for good food I wouldn't mind. Chips and salsa: 4 out of 5. Definitely some of the better (spicier) salsa I've had in the area. Main course: 3 out of 5. We ordered pretty basic entrees to try out, chicken tacos and chicken enchiladas.Both were underwhelming. My enchiladas were drowned in sour cream and cheddar cheese. The chicken tacos were ok, but not enough toppings were on the plate for all the tacos. The rice and beans were pretty good and we did get a lot of chicken in the entrees. The flour tortillas were also disappointing. Way too much lard, not fluffy at all. The food overall was not good enough to make we want to come back and a waste of a cheat meal. I saw lots of menudo and micheladas being ordered so maybe those are good. If you are from further south you'll most likely be disappointed. read more

I have eaten at 4-5 star rated restaurants from Yelp before. This DEFINITELY does not qualify as 4-5 star. Beans are likely canned. Chicken enchiladas were "meh" but at least it had a chip of bone in it so you know it was made in house. Everything was really "meh" ... maybe we were missing the margaritas. If you're in the area, go to Casa Vieja (higher priced, better quality) or First Chinese BBQ (similar price, light-years better in quality, but cash only). If you're looking for a better place than this, Pollo Salsa up on Josey + Keller Springs is similar but much better. Decor was interesting, food was acceptable, but I cannot recommend strongly enough *against* eating here and thinking this is some special / life-changing 4-5 start restaurant. read more

Since our favorite Mexican breakfast place in Carrollton had been taken over and totally changed, we were delighted to find the perfect replacement in Tipico's. Note that this review is only for breakfast items. We have tried at least two breakfast entrees apiece over two visits, and each time was a pleasant experience. The food has a noticeably home-made appearance, aroma, and taste. The corn tortillas are obviously home-made (probably on-premises) and are served steaming hot, delightfully fresh and tender - absolute yum. The re-fried beans are the most delicious we have ever tasted in the metroplex, and have a strong ham-hock flavor reminiscent of New Orleans red beans & rice dishes. Even the coffee is brewed sufficiently strong, which is rare to find outside of a Starbucks. Prices are very reasonable and two can have a great breakfast for under $20. Parking was on the crummy side - the lot has paving defects and is way too small. Waitstaff is friendly and attentive, but you have to tell them to bring your check. read more

So good! Sunday morning wait was about 5-6 minutes and there were people ahead of us. Wait staff is super busy, they have multiple tables but are responsible for putting together chips, salsa, drinks, delivering food, and checking out customers. They have many authentic dishes, salsa is very good and they have a spicy option. Menudo is really good! But order your sides with your order they are not assumed. My boyfriend is Mexican and Brazilian so we are always searching for good authentic restaurants near my place. Long behold, we found this little spot in Carrollton. Once you walk in you can already tell you have stepped into little Mexico. The decor and atmosphere makes you feel like you've just been welcomed into the culture and experience. Once we walked it they pointed us to a table. They speak a lot of Spanish so I had my boyfriend order. The chips and salsa were fresh and the food was just even more amazing! We had tacos al carbon and cheese enchiladas. Tacos al carbon had a great tomatillo salsa and grilled flavor. The enchiladas had hand pulled tender chicken, and you can taste the difference in the tortillas. Possibly the best I have tried for each. The beans and rice are excellent, too. Horrible experience. A couple of months ago, My two kids and I went in one Saturday to eat and never got a table but yet tables were available for seating. We were never greeting or acknowledged as guest but others were seating and acknowledge. I eventually took it upon myself to get my own table and sit down but we were never served. We are a african American family and im guessing thats the problem. In 41 years of life ive never had this happen to me and felt really bad for my kids to witness this in there time and era. For starters the service was horrible. It took us more then 30 minutes to get our food. I ordered the menudo but they said it would take an hour to make more so I ordered the caldo de pollo instead. When it arrives at the table it was not very hot and the chicken was literally a chunk of chicken -- def not a typical leg, thigh, or wing. The chicken itself was dry and it was so big there really wasn't much caldo . My friend ordered a fajita taco and a chicken enchilada and it was room temperature when it got to the table. She used a knife to cure the enchilada and had a hard time because it was so tough. Then when I needed silverware I asked the waitress and she never came back with it. I went up to the front where the employees were just standing and laughing around and ignored the fact that I asked for silverware. We have enjoy comming to Tipicos on Beltline since 2007 great food and everyone is very nice snd attentive is our favorite Mexican restaurant Lately we notice that cleanliness is been an issue When the menu's are given they are sticky and dirty you have to go and wash your hands after handling the menu then we wonder how the kitchen must be. If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. I went with my family to this awful place and while we waited to be seated other people would come in after us and were seated before us. Three families with the same amount of people in their party were seated before us. So, we decided to sit down. We waited for 15 minutes and not ONE person came to serve/greet us.
