I believe this used to be a daycare that was closed down during the pandemic and the owners then bought it and turned it into a restaurant. Rare to find an exposed playground at a sit down restaurant. A+ for that alone. The mango margarita is refreshing and not too sweet; I enjoyed the happy hour pricing. Fajitas were fine. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile because of all the mom saying how great it is with a playground. I finally made the 30 minute drive to check it out. I was highly impressed! Not only was the playground great for a 1 and 3 year old but the food was good! I love that there was turf so the baby could crawl around and I was seated right by the playground so I could watch the kids and eat. The playground was also completely covered to protect from that Texas sun. I will definitely be back! I wish there were more restaurants like this! read more

Nico's is one of my families' all time favorite Mexican restaurants! We moved to the other side of DFW a few years ago, so any time we're in Carrollton we're sure to go to Nico's! Their chips and bean dip are the perfect start and their food is always delicious. You can't forget the margaritas-- but be warned that they're strong! I love that there's a secret outdoor area with a kid's play section to entertain them. The food is pretty good.They do have decent brunch.I've been there at least 5+ times. This place is really good. We had some queso to start. We then ordered the chicken enchiladas which were very flavorful. The salsa is roasted which I really liked. The service was amazing. I stopped by Nico's Covina about 30 minutes before closing, and I was impressed with how kindly I was treated. The staff was welcoming, helpful, and even gave me great recommendations since I was in the mood for something vegetarian. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with corn tortillas, along with beans and potatoes with onions--and everything was delicious. The chips and salsa were great as always, and the guacamole (while amazing in flavor) was a bit smaller in portion than I would have liked. That small detail aside, I always enjoy dining here. A hidden gem! My husband picked this place and I met him here after doing errands. I thought Nico's was an authentic restaurant - music, food, and atmosphere. We had a spot at the bar. The bartender was very kind and patient. I ordered the passion fruit frozen margarita and it was delicious. My husband ordered shrimp ceviche and the chips, bean dip, and salsa. The ceviche was delicious. It came with cod and a side of pickled onions. I highly recommend it! The chips were homemade and the dip and salsa wasn't too spicy. I thought it was enjoyable. My husband loves mexican cuisine and this was the first restaurant to serve bean dip. I absolutely loved everything. The customer service was on point. From entry to exit, everyone was attentive. The manager stopped by our table (our waitress had disappeared), and I asked him for a few jalapeno slices which he quickly brought. When I got the bill, I was charged $1.25 for the peppers! "Don't judge a book by it's cover" parking lot is deceiving but walk in and it was a wonderful turn out! From prompt service with warm chips, refried beans, and salsa upon seating to delicious mango margaritas, good food, prompt service, Miguel, waiter, was a true gentleman smiling and quick with request. Most importantly what drove us here the Indio playground for kids was a HIT!! My 3 year old loved it ! Came after a cold rainy day and my son had a blast after being indoors all day. I went here with some friends one Friday night for dinner. It is tucked into the corner of a strip center. The parking lot is a little chaotic but not their fault. Their chips were okay, some were almost stale. I do like the flavor of their salsa which is not spicy at all. I like places that provide black bean dip too. We shared their normal Queso Bowl $6.99 but this was super meh. It was kind of gritty/chalky with no flavor. I got the Carne Asada $19.95 and added 3 shrimp $5.99. The Carne Asada was really good, tender, juicy and succulent. The charro bean soup it came with was just okay and I would skip the potatoes it comes with as they were flavorless. I will also note that they are quite stingy with their guac, normally when you get the ball scoop guac, you get like 3oz but they give half, like 1.5oz, kind of sad. The shrimp were also very good, hot, flavorful and plump but small/or too few for the high upcharge. I was told the Brisket Quesadilla and their Pastor Street tacos were really good though. I did get to try some of their beef fajitas and chicken enchiladas with ranchera sauce. It surprised me how bad their beef fajitas are, the meat was tough and chewy, not seasoned either. The enchiladas were also bad, the sauce was overly watery and just super bland. I was happy with my meal but a lot of other misses around the table food wise. The service throughout was excellent but not sure I would prioritize going back with all the other misses. read more

We ordered the staple cheese enchiladas with chili con carne, and once again we were disappointed. The cheese inside was barely warm, so it was like eating a tortilla-wrapped cheese log. The chile con carne was terrible. My wife characterized it as "brown water." I really want to like this place, it's a local business, but they need to slow down in the kitchen. I'm more than happy to wait a few minutes for a well-crafted meal. Put some salt in your food and stop watering down the chili. read more

Within the past year or two, it seems they switched management or ownership. And this ended up being a good thing, because the service improved tenfold. We hadn't been to Nicos in many years. I needed enchiladas, so I got the trio with Mexican flag motif. They were very good. My wife also enjoyed her meal. I don't know even, but the place has been remodeled somewhat recently and looks nice inside, as well as well lit. The biggest plus was the service. Our server was fast and attentive. The one serious negative is that the strip center is over 50 years old and looks and smells it. There was a faint whiff of sewer that was a bit off putting. I heard good things about this place and finally decided to try it but was sooo disappointed overall. Our server Gilbert seemed very pushy with getting alcohol. Told him it was our first time and he suggested margaritas. I told him I don't drink and my husband said no. We just wanted water. Then we ordered food and at the end, he suggested a non alcoholic drink besides water. When the food came, it was super disappointing... and again, the server asked if we wanted tequila! Someone posted a review on here and said that fajita for one could feed 2 people.. hahaah 2 children maybe, but not 2 adults. My husband ordered the carnita and the meat was dry! The food is overpriced for the amount you get. The food was ok and I've definitely had better. The kids play area was overcrowded but it was expected. We asked for the bill and instead of dropping it off, he waited. I gave cash and asked for changed and he said thank you so much. Never came back with change as we waited for a bit. I was planning on tipping more but really dislike when servers don't bring back change or ask if I need change. So, with this experience, we won't be back as it's not worth the drive/tolls and price per food. read more

The margaritas were delicious, no doubt, but I was taken aback by the unexpected addition of refried beans inside my quesadillas. The wife had no complaints about her fajitas and said she liked their chips and salsa to which I agreed. The playground patio was a pleasant feature, but it tended to get overcrowded and chaotic with all the little ones running around. Nevertheless, my son had a great time playing, and we did enjoy observing the lively atmosphere and people-watching. I must say that the service provided was good. The food was good! I've had better, I've had worse. We got the botana sampler..queso isn't up to my high standards. Cheese quesadilla is way too thick with cheese. Fajita meat was tender. Stuffed, fried jalapenos were very yummy. The salsa has a nice spice level and they serve a bean dip which the kids loved. Drinks were cold, strong, and pretty cheap. I got a margarita that was very strong ($7) and my husband got a beer on tap that was icy! And less than $5! Service was great! Very attentive. The patio is very well covered/shaded. The table we were at was at a bit or an incline so drinks sloshed a little, etc. Not ideal. And the table seemed a little high for the chairs. Great for families! This place has an outdoor play place for kids and you can watch your kids while you eat as they have plenty of outdoor seating. Absolutely love taking our son here as he loves the food including the free chips and salsa! The Michelada is a good size and they bring the bottle of beer out with your drink. The paradilla fajitas are great, the portion you get is more than enough for two people, and the flavor is amazing! We ordered for takeout and not only was the food poorly prepared, it was carelessly flung into the takeout containers (see photos). Turns out buckling the bag in was unnecessary as I could have flipped my car and the food wouldn't have looked any worse.
