Drinks also arrived surprisingly quickly, probably we weren't drinking adult beverages tonight. I decided to order something different. The Carne Desebrada sounded good. Shredded beef in ranchero sauce, topped with chilantro. Served with cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole. Comes with rice and a choice of refried or charro beans. She asked if I wanted flour or corn tortillas. My dinner plate and tortilla warmer arrived and the entree looked great, but something was missing. Well, 4 somethings. The shredded cheese, pico, sour cream and the guacamole. She went back to the kitchen and returned with 3 little 1 oz cups. So, there was still no pico de gallo. I figured that 3 out of 4 wasn't too bad, since she didn't stick around to see if it was alright. She also didn't return to see if any of us needed anything else. Anyway, the Carne Desebrada was delicious and the charro beans were also a very good choice. And, no, they don't have an added fee for paying with plastic. Server was a little slow. We didn't get drinks until 15mins of sitting down and she never came back to see if we wanted another drink I would have down two margaritas but she never came back until we were completely done with the food. Hadn't been here in a while. We were greeted as soon as we entered which was nice. Quickly got our chips and salsa and drinks. Our orders came pretty quickly. I got the Banderas enchiladas they were very tasty. We were never checked on after we got our food. My husband did not get everything his meal was to come with, he had to flag down the waitress and she questioned what he was missing she did finally bring 3 of the 4 extras that the menu said would accompany his main meal. They weren't very busy so I'm not sure what the issue was. Hopefully next time we go things will go more smoothly. read more

We went here because it's my brothers favorite. They redid the menu. I got the brisket tacos, they were pretty good but seemed to be lacking sauce. The beans and rice are so good. We also got the Banderas which is 3 enchiladas. Now that was really good. We also got the tilapia which my sister really loved. The salsa is not the same so I'm not sure why that is. I liked the old salsa better. The waitress was very attentive and nice. They did upgrade the lighting because you can now see to read the menu. Go check them out. read more

It has been so long since I've been to Los Jalapenos until recently. I was reminded of it & was so excited to go back. I went on a Saturday night. We were seated right away & had great service. They had HUGE waters which I really needed. The chips were not my favorite (I prefer a thinner chip) but the salsa was good. They kept us well stocked in chips & salsa. I tried the chile relleno & it was very good! I LOVED it & left stuffed. We didn't order drinks but the margaritas looked amazing!! I look forward to going back to try their margaritas. They ADD a SURCHARGE when you use a credit card! Better establishments NEVER do this. A business has many expenses; the credit card merchant fee is one of those expenses. That cost should simply be "baked in" to what they charge. I would have NO problem if they raised their prices accordingly, but like most people, I hate "EXTRA" or any "ADD-ON" fees. So far, they do not add a surcharge, for straws, napkins, the bathroom, or their parking lot. The salsa and chips were fresh. The beef enchiladas and chicken fajitas are good. They have Coke, not Pepsi, I was happy about that. Our server checked on us twice, no problems there. Plenty of free parking. The menudo unfortunately lacked flavor and had an odor that made it seem as if the meat was not cleaned properly or thoroughly, which was very concerning. I finally found it! Great Mexican food, not to be confused with good Tex-Mex food. I mean really good Mexican food, the kind that cures a Sunday morning hangover. Which is exactly what it did for me. I was feeling the aftereffects of Saturday night and was coaxed into an early brunch. It's nice and dark inside, better to hide the puffy eyes, no makeup look i had going that day. I ordered the barbacoa platter and my friend had the guisado de Rez. I loved the tender barbacoa that came with house made corn tortillas! Yes, corn tortillas made in house. You can taste the difference plus they are thicker than the store bought processed ones. I also kept stealing bites of my friends guiso which was also very tender and flavorful. This is one of those places where if you ever move away from Texas, you're going to miss a lot. I know this because when I moved away I would have given anything to have a decent Tex-Mex restaurant. When compared to other Tex-Mex restaurants you might overlook it because there are so many options in the area, but it's the simplicity and the consistency that will always pull you back in. I live close enough to throw a sopapilla at this place and so I tried it out one afternoon to go. My order was almost ready by the time I got here and everything was packaged nicely. I ordered the lunch portion of two enchiladas and their stuffed jalapeño for an appetizer. Their jalapeño was really great and actually had some spice. I hate it when you order these and it resembles more like a bell pepper. Bring the heat! My enchiladas were really great and I have no complaints. But... on June 21, 2024 I popped in for dinner takeout since my Huney wasn't feeling well. Service & margarita was great, food: not so much. Combo Fajitas: Steak was good, but not outstanding. Chicken was bland. Both were cooked just right though. The veggies were not, and were mushy... the veggies are part of my favorite part of the meal, so I was bummed; I didn't eat very much of the veggies. Normal amount of sour cream, avocado, and cheese... served with lettuce instead of pico, their choice not mine. IMO lettuce turns it into tacos not fajitas. Tortilla Soup: My Huney had me try his soup because he thought it was just him being sick, thinking it wasn't tortilla soup. I can't remember ever having mushrooms in tortilla soup, maybe a few slices once, not chunks. I absolutely LOVE mushrooms, but found that an odd addition. Next the broth: Are you sure that's Tortilla Soup? That's what I ordered. It was the blandest soup ever. I've never seen tortilla soup that wasn't bright in color, bright orange to red, or even deep red. And, barely any tortillas, and no veggies (I do realize some do not put veggies in it, though) in it. I believe they were trying to cut a corner & watered the batch down. No bueno. I wound up straining the soup salvaging the bulk for a salad and giving the "broth" to the dogs... giving my Huney something else we had on hand. I will say that there was a decent amount of chicken in the soup... ***Picture is of the broth after I strained it.*** I'm not giving up just yet... but , I think we'll stick to breakfast. I come EVERY Sunday since I first tried this place. This place actually serves Mexican dishes instead of Tex Mex. The Pozole with cabbage is my fav. I love that they give you the oregano mix and spicy salsa to add to it. The Cameronas Al Diabla is delicious also. If you enjoy spicy i recommend this dish. On Fridays they have live music. We've had the chicken enchiladas, fajitas, chicken quesadillas, and shrimp cocktail all good. Corn tortillas are light and great to dip in the salsa. Minus one star for the guacamole. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer and it seemed as though it was squeezed right out of a bag. We've Had it since then and it was better so maybe it was an off day. Having been there many times over the years, I'm surprised I've never before written a review. We were there this past Sunday with the family, and service was good, as was the food. Nothing spectacular, just good. The salsa is really good and spicy. Service there at times is spotty, especially when the owner is absent. They get our business primarily because they are close, and the food is good. They can do better though, and I wish they would. My enchilada was a bit short on the filling, and they automatically give you refritos, but their menu offers a choice of that or charro beans. Service training could be better, though our server this time was pretty good. He got a twenty percent tip. All in all, it's a decent place, but should be better. read more

This place has the best pork pozole, maybe the best I've ever had? Great portions, lots of meat, you can tell its clean, comes with all the sides, make sure to ask for cabbage not lettuce! I visited this restaurant mid week for lunch with a handful of coworkers. We were seated promptly and and our drink orders were taken immediately. The restaurant was fairly empty and very quiet, to the point we felt our conversation overtook the whole restaurant. Our waitress did an outstanding job of taking orders and constantly checking on us. We started our meal with Mom's Dip and the Sampler Plate. The dip was a little too runny for my liking but the flavors were good. The salsa on the table was delicious and spicy. The sampler included a number of your traditional Mexican favorites, but nothing really stood out. For my entree I had the carne asada which is a 12oz ribeye grilled fajitas style. It was served well done even though I ordered it medium. What's worse since it is served on a hot plate the meat keeps cooking as it sits there so by the time I ate my meal the meat was a bit tough. The vegetables its served with were fine even though they lacked some seasoning. Overall I was pretty disappointed with the meal. This restaurant did not do enough for a repeat visit. There are too many Mexican restaurants in the area that serve better food. read more
