Our waitress(with pink hair) was great, she was clearly super busy and handled it like a champ. We split some buttermilk pancakes, they were tasty but not overly fantastic, and then had omelettes(veggie and western w/ cheese). The omelettes were really good and I like their crispy potatoes. I'm surprised that I haven't posted a review sooner? I only go here like two or three times a week with an elderly gentleman from the nursing home. Listen, when it comes to hometown mom-and-pop restaurants, I'm always going to try and give a nice review. The restaurant business is tough and these days people complain about things that ain't worth complaining about. Tiptop has some hard-working waitresses that have been there forever, the owner is a good guy, and the food is great! I go mostly for breakfast, but occasionally for dinner. Our second outing to Tip Top. We are from out of state and had heard good things about this restaurant. The first time we went it was ok. Yesterday was not so good. First of all, the place is dirty. The bathroom is disgusting. The food was not very good- the home fries were like mush.. totally inedible. I ordered toast with no butter- it was buttered. Same mistake last time. Enjoyed a simple breakfast here today! I ordered two eggs, over easy style, with home fries, bacon, and toast. Everything was cooked very well and I enjoyed this simple yet delicious meal. My friend ordered the banana nut pancakes, which I had a little bite of, and they were delicious! This is a bit of a drive if you are a UVA student, but definitely worth it. The restaurant has large windows to let plenty of sunlight in and allows you to look at the scenery outside as you enjoy a great meal. Have eaten breakfast here many times and it is always very good. Afternoon stop for some dessert and coffee as we have admired the desserts in their display case many times in the morning. I ordered apple pie with ice cream and coffee and my wife ordered the chocolate mousse cake. The cake was delivered quickly and was good. My apple pie and coffee came and the pie had been heated as requested but the ice cream was the smallest scoop ever seen particularly for an additional 2.95. The pie was just okay with few apples and much crust. The coffee was hot but not particularly fresh but after a few sips I saw what was some kind of food residue around the inside of the cup. I showed it to one of the ladies working the front and she took the cup and I said I did not want a replacement. I decided to go with what a few of the Yelp reviewers suggested: Chicken Souvlaki. It was pretty good. Oh where to start... We ordered kalamai, with a k, and garlic bread for appetizers. The calamari was very...very well done and had no chewy left to it, but the garlic bread was edible. Then we ordered fettuccine alfredo with shrimp for me and a veggie pizza with chicken for my wife. Mine looked and tasted like noodles they took an old country gravy recipe and swapped out some ingredients to make alfredo sauce, not in a good way. Pooled oil in my bowl did not make it any better. When the desk clerk at out motel described Tip Top as a Greek diner, I got pretty excited. We're from Indianapolis, but spent enough time in New York to appreciate the concept of getting too much of practically anything you want to eat. Tip Top is Greek diner without the glass and chrome and, perhaps, not enough Greeks in the kitchen. The dining room is large and very clean and service is immediate and friendly. The restaurant is perched on a hill, so views out the large windows are great. We eagerly searched the extensive menu for gyros on the menu and ordered platters without a second thought. For us, pairing the gyro meat, pita, Greek salad and tzatziki sauce with French fries or onion rings is a little offbeat, but Tip Top is in central Virginia, not New Jersey, so local tastes may prefer the fries to green beans. The server got my order a little wrong, but she recovered quickly and cheerfully. The Greek salad and sauce were great. The gyro meat was a little dry but okay. For some reason the kitchen cuts the pita bread into pita tips, but again that could be local preference. The French fries were another matter. They were hot and thick but not crispy. If you're going to be a diner, Greek or not, better get those fries fried right. Nevertheless, no regrets. For a late dinner after a day on the road, Tip Top is okay. read more

I love places like TipTop that have just all around good food. So far we have had breakfast and lunch and the plates are satisfying and tasty. Today we had the buttermilk pancakes, sausage, grits, western omelet and home fries. Everything tasted great! The only thing that was odd was that the omelets don't come with cheese, you have to pay extra to add cheese. So while the menu is inexpensive it's little things like adding cheese that add up. As for service, it's not the place to find an extremely genial and attentive server. It's a large and busy diner/restaurant and I think each server is responsible for huge sections. So I don't fault the service; get the server's attention and ask for what you want. Can't wait to try dinner and sample more food from the menu. Love this place! read more

After finishing cancer treatment just up the road at Martha Jefferson I decided to treat myself to some pizza. Before cancer I was not a pizza person but I have really liked it lately and pineapple is the only kind I want. I called and ordered as I left the hospital and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Went to get some fast foods fries then back to Tip Top. Went inside to pick it up and was disappointed to find 2 waitresses at the front counter where I needed to pay. One did not have a mask on and the other had her nose out. I have a very compromised immune system and know that if I get Covid, it will probably kill me. Tip Top already had to close because they had a Covid issue earlier this year. I wear a mask for several hours while getting chemo so I dont understand people who say they cannot wear them. But if your staff isn't going to wear them, I just wish they could move away from the counter where I need to pay for my food. read more
