Went for a quick lunch. Food quality is 5 stars. The staff are great. Fulfilled all expectations, except for charging an additional service charge, which our cashier could not explain. The manager came over and was very aloof and condescending. Should raise the prices rather than sticking an additional charge, for what? That truly was the only negative. I absolutely LOVE Tinleaf. Tinleaf is one of the best casual restaurants around. The food here is fantastically fresh and the ambiance is awesome. My go to meal is the pork tenderloin sandwich with fries and a side salad (mixed green). That being said, there are several other dishes that are absolutely to die for, cali cubano, thanksgiving on a bun, tenderloins, you name it, they are all delicious!!! Overall, I would highly recommend this place as it provides a spectacular ambiance, great food, great indoor/outdoor seating and fantastic attentive service. I am not sure if this is a chain or not but it feels like one the place is well run and has a good extensive menu i love the outside seating area which is spacious and happy the food is pretty good we have the seared Ahi tuna salad with wasabi dressing and the cobb salad with gorgonzola dressing the Ahi salad was tasty and i would order it again, but it could use a bit more substance and the dressing could use a bit more kick the cobb was very good with lots of substance but the dressing was watery and the tarragon or whatever it was ruined it- but once we added the buttermilk ranch, it was much better if i am in the area i would try it again read more

I had the ahi tuna salad and my wife tried the Bahn mi. The salad was ok. Good size portion and tasted fresh. Subtle bordering on bland. The bahn mi was unappetizing. The meat could have been pork or roast beef or chicken and I couldn't tell the difference. Lots of flavor lost because it was so dry. So wanted to eat healthy after eating at Crack Shack the day before.... Ended up picking up the tri tip with double order of the bok choy and mushrooms for sides. Also ordered a side of mac and cheese for my daughter. The tritip looked a little overdone but I'm pretty sure it was due to the fact it sat in closed container for 45 minutes before I ate it. But even then, fairly tender, and OMG the house made steak sauce is the perfect combo of tangy, sweet, and a little heat. Ok, I tried the mac and cheese even though I was determined not to....smokey goodness. They serve some good mac and cheese. The bok choy and mushrooms were also seasoned well. I was working late and had to find a place that was still opened with healthy options, so I came here via Yelp's app. I ordered a salad and it was really pricey, the salad wasn't spectacular or anything, so it was that much more of a bummer. I've had some fantastic salads that justifies the price, but the portion to price ratio for this place didn't add up, especially not for an average salad. I have mixed feelings about this place. I got the tri-tip salad which was pretty good with fresh ingredients but for $13.50, I was expecting a larger portion. The sesame crusted seared ahi tuna sandwich was just ok. Needed more seasoning because even the wasabi mayo did not help how bland the sandwich was. The dining area could be a bit cleaner. After a tennis match in Carlsbad some of us came here for lunch. This was my first time and to my surprise I really enjoyed my steak salad. The steak was cooked medium rare and there were plenty of baby spinach and kale with some cheese and sautéed red onions. It was delicious. read more

Its wonderful there are so many gluten free options here. I love the champagne vinaigrette. I get it with the create your own salad. I am not sure how this happens, but when I ask to have it mixed in it ends up on the side, almost every time, yet they continue to ask me which I would like ha :) Still prefer it mixed in :) The only real complaint I would have is sometimes the lemonade (my favorite drink here) is off from a lemon. Unfortunately, I never know which it's going to be until after I've tried it. They let me get a different drink if this happens. I feel satisfied and healthy...they don't skimp on quality ingredients. I normally go to Beach Plum Kitchen (which I adore) but since they are temporarily closed I thought I'd try Tin Leaf. We were unprepared for the changes at this local eatery, while the menu remains unchanged and therefore predictable, the food is basic and well prepared. The true horror of today's Tin Leaf is the total lack of care and concern shown for the aging interior, making our meal and the time we spent there an uncomfortable experience. There is no uniformity to the decor anymore, as too many of the classic aluminum chairs have been replaced with ugly, plastic wicker ones that are a total mismatch and don't fit the tables they are paired with, so you end up sitting far too low to be comfortable. (Perhaps the sad, tattered old pillows scattered about the place, are meant to remedy that problem) The floor and tables were littered with food and paper napkins from former patrons, leaving the restaurant's dining area both unclean and unappealing. The silverware has been haphazardly replaced by cheap plastic children's spoons and forks, making the food hard to eat and an ecologiical nightmare when matched with the plastic cups we were given to drink from. Lighting is harsh and institutional, with a careless mismatch of overhead units that makes the food ( and your dining partner) look green and unappealing. How Tin Leaf allows their patrons to endure the consequences of their neglect is beyond me. read more

Stopped by for lunch and it wasn't too crowded. Stand in line and get to the counter to order. Sit down with your number and they bring your food to you. Servers were very polite and friendly. Tri Tip Salad - Had good sized pieces of meat on top of a bed of arugula. Meat was tender and nicely cooked. I was skeptical about the mustard vinaigrette because I only like honey mustard but this was light and tasty! All Natural Santa Maria Tri Tip - I got this with steamed brown rice and fries. Their fries were nice and crisp on the outside and soft inside. They were not overly greasy either. The brown rice was a bit mushy for my liking but went well with the meat. The BBQ sauce went perfectly with the tri tip. We really enjoyed this restaurant. It is in a good location as well! We will be back. read more

I usually order a half salad and can never seem to finish them- I don't think I'll ever see a reason to order a full. My favorite is the salmon salad! A generous portion of perfectly grilled salmon atop a bed of fresh field greens. The ingredients they use in their salads are fresh and high-quality. No matter which one I get, I always sub the dressing for the lemon caper vinegarette- soooo good! You order and pay at the cashier and they will bring the food to your table. They specialize in sandwiches, soups and entrees. I ordered the Grilled Salmon Salad. Although it was lunchtime, we didn't wait too long for our food. I was pleased with the freshness and amount of field greens but for the price of the salad, I felt they skimped out on the salmon. That Sadie Rose multi-grain bread is so delicious and the fresh roasted turkey goes so perfectly on this sandwich. I always go to it's their lemon caper vinaigrette for my salad and it is beyond amazing! I kinda wish I could bathe in it. Their staff are always very nice and service is quick. Much better than Urban Plates. Heck, I enjoyed it more than Tendergreens. Not taking away from either of those places, but there's something about this place that tips the preference over to them. I got the Santa Maria Tri Tip with Quinoa Taboule and Orzo Pasta Salad. My girlfriend got the Salmon with Ratatouille and Brown Rice. Everything was delicious except my girlfriend didn't like the brown rice very much. Fair assessment by her, so I ended up finishing that brown rice for her because I don't waste food! This place is definitely a nice place for a work lunch. It's probably a best balance between fine dining and fast food. It's not even close to either of those ends of the spectrum, by the way. It's very good quality food without the whole getting-seated-by-the-server-and-then-relying-on-that-server-to-get-everything-for-you-and-it-takes-so-much-more-time thing. Fountain drinks, water and tea are self-serve with the cup they give you, but they also have wine, if you're inclined. Staff is very good. No issues with that department. Their men's restroom smells a bit funny. Not like the normal smell from bodily excretes. But hey, it's not nasty, and a restroom is a restroom. Parking is free-ninety-nine. It's in the same plaza as other restaurants, businesses, and a supermarket. Tips: - When you're ready to order, you can cut in line. If they get mad at you for cutting, you respond by demanding that they hurry up and make up their damn mind. But usually, if they're logical as we all should be, they'll be fine with you cutting in line especially if you ask nicely and/or they're still undecided. - Don't listen to the GPS when it tells you to U-turn at Dove Lane. All it makes you do is make a right turn at the street you just passed! We saw a car in front of us do the exact same thing. Just turn at Aviara, regardless of what that scrap metal tells you. If you happen to be in the area for one reason or another, this is a great choice. Would I go out of my way for it? Only if I crave it to death. read more

Met up with my friend for a lunch. She had a 10 dollar off birthday coupon, so we chose to come here. I ordered the thanksgiving on a bun, which is exactly like it sounds: carved turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing all wrapped together in a sandwich. It came with a choice of fries, coleslaw, or salad. I went with the mixed green salad and a lemon vinaigrette. It was okay; pretty good, but not amazing. My friend got the twisted blt and the coleslaw, with a cup of tomato bisque soup on the side, which she all liked. The food seems to be pretty fresh and healthy, and they're very gluten-free/ vegan friendly. However, I don't think that the taste justifies the price.
