What a nice place to drop into. The ambiance was fantastic. "Tina" was fantastic. The food was great. A cute little town. Buy the strawberry preserves to help the local kids.

Always looking for a local place for food and Tina was so awesome! She was so delightful and just singing away. She makes homemade sausage and hash browns, if you are the type to go local and genuine, go to the 75 year young Tina for a meal!

I came in on a Wednesday around noon, and I was the only person in the joint. I decided to sit at the counter so I could chat with Tina. She shared some crazy stories from her life and I told her a little about mine. I had an ice cold Arnold Palmer and enjoyed the antique nostalgia of the place while Tina went to the kitchen and whipped up a fresh cheeseburger and fries. The food quality was alright, but you can tell it was prepared with love. She also shared some Filipino recipes and cooking techniques with me. I went to pay with my debit card and then the power went out, so the card reader stopped working. Tina told me we'd catch up later since I didn't have any cash on me. She also gave me an apple for the road. What a sweet lady! I'll have to come back soon to pay my tab. Stepping into Tina's diner feels like taking a time machine back to the 50's. Worth a stop if you're passing through!

I just keep eating Chicken Fried Steak at Tina's. She simply makes it fresh every time. Amazing!

I found this restaurant on yelp. I was on a drive north. It's a ways off the 5 freeway but I wasn't in a hurry. I stopped by for breakfast and to meet Tina. I ordered the Denver omelet. It comes with hash browns and fruit. The restaurant is very old but when it's In a small town I wouldn't expect it to be a fancy place. It wasn't crowded and I sat at the counter. Tina if very friendly. The omelet came out and I felt it was a okay omelet. I did enjoy my time there I talked with one of the locals. Its worth the time to stop by

just had a really good bacon cheese burger w/ fresh fries and a lemonade. super good random spot in a western ghost strip of a busy highway.

I found a fellow plant-lover in this place. Tina, the owner, was very entertaining and very hosrhospitable. She exudes a positive energy. She serves food with love. She told us wonderful stories and even shared the history of Maricopa City. The City is in dire economic financial crisis because of the sudden downturn of their source of livelihood - oil drilling and farming. But regardless of what is happening in her City, she still keeps going. If you happen to pass by Maricopa, please support this local business.

Great find! And not just because it's the only spot in town. An experience, of the good kind: friendly host and mounds of good food.

On a road trip, my friend Denise and I were looking for a convenience store in roads that were not…read morepaved with cement nor were they in the center of a chic boutique and a hits-the-spot every time boba shop. Yes, we were basically on dirt roads that saw a few scattered homes here and there, and visible old school phone towers (the brown kind) connected with wires (where crows sit on a row) existed, and not much else. We drove around in some circles, looking for this fabled store and found nothing, not even a Bigfoot. We noted how the moment felt like we were on an Iowa highway because we saw expansive fields and experienced a Middle-America atmosphere. I wanted a small stalk of wheat in between my teeth. As we drove, we saw this place and decided that this joint would replace the store we were looking for. At this point I started to listen to Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. If you know, you know. As soon as I entered I felt like I had stepped into a diner in the middle of nowhere, the type of spot where brothers talked about saving people, hunting things, you know the family business. My friend Denise did not know what I was talking about and when I tried to introduce the world to her with corny prompts she decided not to play along. Still for a fan the experience was nothing but a win!(chester). I cannot remember the person who helped us but she was a server who reported that she had lived in the surrounding area for most of her life. She was deepening the believe that we were on a route diner neglected by city reality. During this visit, I had fried okra for the first time in my life. It was weird to taste but not in a bad way. More like I had never tasted this texture before in my life. The texture that I had not tried before in my life was a gooey vegetable. Like the texture of the outside was exactly as advertised--- fried goodness. The actual okra was the gooey part. I do not want to sound crass, truly, I do not, but it did feel like enjoying something slimy, and I will leave it at that. Again, not wrong, just weird But I will not get it again. The server- the homegrown one- gave us fried pickles and these were much more to taste. Like, I i have had fried pickles before and I loved them but I had some that were not for me. But these, these, were pickle spears fried to brown goodness, and the mixture hit green- which does not mean go, more like Hulk enjoys, instead of smashes. It was a simple dish yes- green spear pickle fried but sometimes the goodness of a county fair is exactly what a roadtrip snack should be. The fair came to my table and I am not mad at that. On this trip I did have the Willow Dip which I feel is a close cousin to a french dip. What this place did well, at least I think, is putting it on an onion baguette. I am not sure if onion baguette is a middle-of-nowhere bread, but, I allowed it because the taste of the bread was, like tailored made for me, I am a sucker for onion, and not just because it gives me sexy breath. The food was standard, solid fare. Everything was just good nothing wrong with it, all good with it. The sauces were tasty, and added smoky sweet flavor that was welcomed. So this elevated the dish by addding a hickory taste. It did not save the dishes, but did make them better. The decorations were texas heavy. I should have taken more pictures. But sometimes the imagination allows for a space to feel more than at it is.

You can't miss the huge "Coffee" sign visible from the highway. We recently had to drive said route and decided to finally visit. And we were happy we did. If you're traveling via the 166, definitely stop, have a coffee and a bite to eat.

Last time we…read morewanted to stop here there was a field fire up ahead, so we drove back to San Luis Obispo through California Valley, a Wild West adventure on miles and miles of unpaved road, back through time to the Carrizo Plain national monument. The drive out was lovely, with lots of yellow broom blooming on the hills. We passed the Firefighter Monument that my husband tends that commemorates the firefighters killed in the Spanish Ranch fire, and checked out the growth of some oak trees around it. We pulled in for an early lunch at the Buckhorn and got a nice booth near a window. We were waited on immediately and provided water and a new menu with more of an emphasis on breakfast dishes. It was early lunch for us, and I ordered my favorite "Breakfast Salad," a Cobb salad, which has bacon and egg in it. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich, a specialty of the place. There was a delay getting the wine menu, and my first choice had run out, so I tried a white that was close to a Sauvignon Blanc from a local vineyard. I had spied some very authentic looking apple pie coming in, and we ordered a slice for desert. It came with a couple of scoops of creamy ice cream, and had a sure-enough baked through crust with juicy, cinnamony apples inside! On the way to the car, we noticed a local rancher "branding" the building, by pushing his heated up brand into the front wall of the restaurant where many other brands appeared. The paint smoked a bit, and when he was done, a spade appeared on the facade, "Spade Ranch," he told me, literally making his brand relevant to the cafe! We reveled in the beauty of the ride back, appreciated out step back in time into the history of this beautiful valley.

The server was polite and seated me quickly since it wasn't very busy. I ordered an omelet, assuming it would be one of the quickest and simplest items to prepare. Instead, it took 40 minutes to arrive. Honestly, if I were at home, I could go to the grocery store, buy the ingredients, prep, cook the omelet, and clean up in that same amount of time. It was surprising--and frustrating--that it took so long, especially after I had to follow up to get my food. The omelet itself was very basic. They chopped and mixed avocado directly into it as a topping, which was unusual since most places serve it on the side. It was also extremely bland--no salt or pepper at all. The vegetables inside were lightly seasoned and had an okay texture, but nothing memorable. The hash browns were the worst I've ever had: slightly raw, oily, and soft. That's especially disappointing considering I cook frozen hash browns at home and they've never turned out this bad. The toast was fine and adequately buttered. I genuinely feel bad for the locals who eat here and, by doing so, encourage the business to keep serving subpar food to new customers. I won't be dining at any Black Bear Diner again--I'd rather get Panda Express or go to the Denny's across the street.
