After slaving over a 5 page action plan for my work which will probably go nowhere, I decided to celebrate its completion by looking for a place that wasn't fast food. I came across the Tin Kitchen's listing on Yelp. The great rating they already have on here made the decision. Ordered the Carolina (pulled pork towed with house slaw) and a side of baked beans. On a visit to Weston my friend and I popped in for an early dinner. I'm on a special macro based meal plan so I have to watch what I'm eating. While I didn't get to enjoy a typical BBQ style meal that I would have liked. I'm not unhappy with what I ordered. I ordered the TK Salad which is pretty basic. Romaine lettuce, spinach, baby carrots halved, tomatoes, a few cucumber slices and radishes. Not super big and I could easily track my macros. For a protein option you to choose any smoked meat option. I went with the shredded pork and a balsamic vinegerette for the dressing. The salad wasn't anything special. The pork was great and had nice flavor. My friend ordered brisket, mac n cheese and slaw. If I could have swapped plates I would have. The mac had a nice crusty topping. I'm still thinking about that mac! The brisket looked great he had some big chunks of meat that had some nice bark. I almost thought he ordered burnt ends until I saw the sliced meat underneath. I did try the slaw because I'm all about a good vinegar slaw and this didn't disappoint. While he didn't care for it I loved it. The service was fast!!! Had to come back to try the food after leaving the week before as it was super busy which is a good thing! Tried the half chicken adding some brisket with broccoli salad and macaroni & cheese. The chicken was the star of this meal, smoked to perfection, juicy and tasty. The brisket add was a little smaller than desired, a little fatty, but still tasty and tender. The broccoli salad was a great side! The macaroni & cheese was honestly just ok. Plenty of beer choices also that include local starts. Certainly worth a visit in your future! read more

Stopped in this little spot for some barbeque after a day of sightseeing. The physical space is beautiful. Although not overly friendly, the staff was attentive. They were out of several of the first beers we ordered. Once our food arrived, we dug in. I had the chopped pork and brisket plate. Went alone on a Friday. It was around 2pm and the place was packed. I had to wait a bit to get a table. There were only 2 waitresses it seems. They should have a better holding/standing area, you are just out there in the middle with everyone gawking at you, but all the same, once seated, it went well. I also don't really know how they would accomplish this with the layout of the building. The interior design is basic, but really appealing. There is a separate (for parties?) area in the back near the restrooms. There is an interesting skylight back there. I had a half a slab of ribs, fries and beans. The ribs were very good, with a black pepper rub? It was fantastic. The meat didn't fall off, but it came off extremely easy. They had a great smoky flavor, and combined with the pepper it made a perfect match. There were 3 sauces on the table, original, sweet and pepper. The Pepper, seemed to be more black pepper with a bit of vinegar. Sweet was a typical but amazing KC style sauce. The original was pretty flat for me. The beans were good, tasted a lot like the bbq sauces. There were hunks of meat in there that really added to the taste. If the meat wasn't in there, it would have lost a lot of appeal. The fries were..a lot. Tons of them. I don't prefer those smaller shoe string type of fries, but they tasted good and of course, I ate the majority of them. The attentiveness really picked up when the staff could catch their breath. It wasn't because they were lazy, they were working very hard, there just wasn't enough of them at the start. I would absolutely go back in a heart beat. This is a great place, great food and good service when they aren't swamped. read more

Food is good but portions are small. The pork and brisket combo was a small portion compared.to other BBQ restaurants. The Cole slaw that I'd had before was rather bland this time. For comparison I've eaten at Rosedales in KC and never left hungry. I've also eaten at Bandanas in St Joe and they have large potions great BbQ and real just made garlic bread to go with it. Solid food in a solid area. The best thing about this restaurant is definitely their appetizers. The pulled pork cheese fries were AMAZING and pigs in a blanket were delicious! The service was average and their bbq is average I would say. Macaroni and cheese wasn't very goodbut coleslaw was pretty good. I love this place. It's listed as bbq but I really enjoy their burgers and fries. They have great beer on tap and even though we've come at lunch and on the weekends, we've never waited long for a table (if at all!) They have a back bar area with more seating. Food is quick! Flavor was good, but both were very fatty. My fries were very good and her cole slaw had great flavor. Service was excellent. We had searched for some place to eat in Weston, and fell into Tin Kitchen. It was late, and we were alone in an empty restaurant. Usually I share a plate with my wife, because American restaurants provide way too much food for too low a price to make any sense in doubling the small price for twice the pile of food. This is not one of those places - quite the contrary. For $17, they brought to my table what looked like a 1/4 cup chopped pork, 1/4 cup chopped brisket, both on top of bread, with what seemed like a 1/4 cup of beans, and 1/4 cup of slaw. This was possibly the most stingy barbecue joint I've ever visited. Seeing as how I could get 1/2 pound of brisket, and 3 potatoes cut and fried at Arthur Bryants for $10, I just couldn't eat this - among many other barbecue joints in Kansas City, just down the street from my house. Additionally, it arrived at my table within 3 to 4 minutes, which told me that the meat man chops the meat like that for cheaper and longer storage ability. Providing at best $4 worth of food, and charging me $16 is not worth it - it is clearly a plate made for a small person, at artisan, farm-to-market blah blah prices. That's not barbecue. Barbecue is dirty, and quantitative. It's expensive, but also a good deal. That's where they lost me. read more

Holy. Cow. I stumbled across this place because we needed to grab lunch after we landed in KC. I cannot say enough good things about this spot. I'm not from the area, but anytime I find myself within an hour of this place, I'll make sure I head this way. The absolute best barbecue I have ever had in my life. And, I love me some barbecue. My daughter and I stopped here for takeout and it was great as usual. I have some dietary restrictions right now and they were very accommodating. Ordered a cheeseburger with just cheese and lettuce and it was delicious! Asked if the root beer was caffeine free and one of the girls googled it right then and there and it is. My husband and I were in Leavenworth for business and decided to check this place out. When we walked in, we were asked "how many?" by one of the waitresses and we said "2". Without saying a word (not even a "follow me this way") the lady grabbed 2 menus and walked off to a table closer to the back of the restaurant, placed the menus down, and kept walking the opposite direction from us. My husband and I looked at each other because we were one second away from walking out based on the rudeness of the waitress....but we decided to stay as another waitress approached us in a more "common" and inviting manner after we were standing there looking confused about what just happened with the first waitress. Their ribs was good, although I've had better elsewhere but their cole slaw is one of the best I've ever had. Not sure if we would return if we are ever in the area...most likely not. read more
