Crispy Pork Belly Rice Plate and Unagi Don with Green Beans and garlic sauce
    Lisa C.

Came on a Sunday during lunch hour, so it was quite busy! The pork belly is super crispy and succulent. The green beans are slightly crispy and reminds me of DTF green beans, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The special rice dish comes with honey lemon ice tea. We're far out from Davis but was in town and glad we came to try this place out. Service is good too. We loved it so much we decided to order their house fried rice to go so we can have it for dinner. Highly recommend! And you really can't beat the price, which makes the food taste even better.

Tim's Kitchen is hands-down my favorite HK cafe to support whenever I'm in Davis. The prices seem to be inflation-proof but the quality of their food is not jeopardized at all. The owners speak Cantonese and Mandarin, so I am able to practice my Canto whenever I order, haha. I've already brought my husband several times with me, and he seconds my opinion regarding the food (he especially loves their pork belly dish). The service is pretty attentive for a family-run restaurant, and the AC is cold. The ambiance is chill and generally quiet, so I always have a peaceful place to enjoy my lunch. I never have to wait long for my meal, and the food is always fresh. Tim's Kitchen is the definition of HK home cooking, and I am very happy that there is such a place in Davis. With most of the entrees, you either get a free soda or lemon tea, and I always get the lemon tea. The prawn dishes, which generally run you at least $16 elsewhere, are only $13 at Tim's Kitchen, so it is my go-to protein. They are always cooked well and never overcooked or rubbery. My favorite so far is their prawns with green bean, in a signature HK black bean garlic sauce! I have also had their Hainanese Chicken Rice (海南雞飯) and the chicken is cooked perfectly and pairs wonderfully with their special rice. The ginger and scallion oil is also delicious. I've had their baked spaghetti prawns in cream sauce and that is sooo yummy. The layer of melted cheese on top is broiled to perfection. There are always people ordering DoorDash, Hungry Panda, etc, so business is always stable for Tim's Kitchen. It makes me happy that others enjoy their food as much as I do. I will continue to support Tim's Kitchen for the long haul and highly recommend coming to support this establishment if you're ever in the Davis area, or even passing by on I-80!!

Wow, their dishes had some wonderful flavors! Very delicious, memorable chowfun, and green beans were so fresh, and flavorful. Spicy wontons had that slightly numbing star anise in it, which I love! The only things I marked a point off is on the beef that was not tender, so I'd probably order pork, chicken or shrimp instead next time. Green onion pancake was crispy and yummy. Bittermelon was really good too. Hot and sour soup was kind of bland. Complimentary iced water tasted great! Definitely coming back.

Great quality and affordable food! For almost $13, you get a whole meal that can feed 2 and an iced tea drink. I always get the baked chicken with cream sauce, and it's always cooked to perfection. I tried other items on the menu and they're just as good! This is perfect for college students. Service was quick, and there aren't usually that much people. This place is so underrated. I love introducing my friends to this place!

This place is very cheap with massive portions. It's good for closer friends who like homestyle Chinese food who you don't need to impress. Because it is fusion it does tend to be a little sweeter, but it has overall good flavors. The tomato and egg had a lot of green onion, perfect heat on the eggs, and green beans had good bite. Meat quality was normal in all the dishes, really good considering the price. Chinese pastas have never been my thing, but if you enjoy that category these are nice. A lot of meat and sauce. For me it's always too monotonous in texture and lacking in flavor. Food came out when it finished cooking so you had food almost immediately. I went on a Saturday 2pm, it was almost the only place open, and it was quite empty. Server was pleasant.

Had lunch with the waifu. The deep fried prawns were great! Tasted fresh or not frozen for a long time. The chicken and cream sauce was ok. Nothing bad but nothing good to say either. The boba was not filled to the top. When I pointed that out to the staff, the reply was 'Only filled to line'. Ok. I got what I got. The boba was agar; I like agar so no problem there. Just wish I had more milk tea. Ambiance is always good. Also got hot water on a cold spring day. Letter of Recommendation: B+

My fiance and I decided to drive up to Davis to grab Shah's initially but found out the whole complex was under renovations. So we deciddd to grab Chinese. We used to live in Davis and never saw this place before and decided to give it a try! My fiance and I loved their salt pepper pork chops, pork belly which was super crispy and I loved their walnut prawns! The only critique we have is that we did not enjoy the spicy green beans as much. It wasn't flavorful enough and it was just a preference for us. The green beans were almost like steamed like rather than stir fried. But we ordered a lot of food and enjoyed everything about it. The lady who was our waitress was super friendly and she gave us a great service! I really liked the interior of the restaurant since it looked super Chinese and gave me the confidence that this will be authentic Chinese food! We will definitely be coming back when we are in the area!

Adding a few more pictures after a repeat visit recently. Not much has changed. I was still surprised to not see Spam on the menu which is big in Asia Pacific. The interior is pleasant but rather plain. Wish they would use the long bar left from it was a different business.

Outstanding food at rock bottom prices. Most meals come with a free soda. Friendly service.

    Delicious crispy orange chicken

The food is always served fresh. For the portions you get, you can easily share. We got an order of chowmein and their orange chicken is soooo good. We shared between 4 people and had left overs.

New menu, more options that include more Cantonese style dishes as well as the Hong Kong baked dishes. Most of the dishes come with a free soda or honey lemon tea. Greeted when walked in and was able to sit anywhere we like. The baked dishes are a classic Hong Kong style dish. Although it takes a bit of time, it has good portions and it is delicious. ($11.50 - $12.95) The appetizer is very reasonable priced, so you're able to get a variety of things, from scallion pancakes to chicken wings to vegetables. The place is super spacious, it is clean. With their new updated menu, there are many options to satisfy everyone!

Not to be mistaken for Tim's Hawaiian on 2nd or 3rd, this is a Cantonese style restaurant. The servers are nice but have a little bit of a hard time speaking English. Food comes out slow. So not great place to come if you're in a rush but no doubt one of my favorite spots to eat out because they have filling meals for extremely reasonable prices ($10).

We were both pretty hungry afterwards and weren't sure what places were open, or what we wanted to eat. We decided to drive around downtown Davis just to get a sense of what was open, and saw that Tasty Kitchen was bustling. We had never eaten there before, but as it was pretty much our only option besides fast food (which I did not want), we decided to try them out and have a good Thanksgiving dinner. I took a quick browse at their Yelp reviews before heading in, and the food looked pretty good, so I figured why not. Since we had come pretty much on a whim (I usually heavily research restaurants before trying new places), we weren't quite sure what to order, but I knew I wanted some carbs. We wanted to share a fried rice, so we chose the dried scallop and egg white fried rice. My husband was eyeing the beef stew lo mein, and I was eager to try the beef chow fun with black bean sauce. We were seated quickly and given hot tea to enjoy. It had been a cold day, so the tea was very welcome. We placed our order and then sat back to people watch while we waited. There were a few large groups dining in, but while watching the staff, they all worked efficiently, and food was constantly coming out of the kitchen. Delivery drivers and those who called in for takeout were also coming and going. We waited a while for our food, but it was also because everyone seemed to have ordered at the same time for the dinner rush (and we had come around 17:45 too). I guess everyone was feeling like an early Thanksgiving dinner. We were honestly amazed by the huge portion sizes when our dishes arrived to our table. Everything was reasonably priced as well, and we knew we would have plenty of leftovers. The beef chow fun with black bean sauce was delightfully saucy, and the noodles still had a nice wok hay. The beef was extremely velvety and tender. My husband enjoyed his beef stew lo mein. The egg noodles were perfectly bouncy, and the braised beef was tender. The dried scallop egg white fried rice was pretty good as well. I had hoped for a bit more wok hay and scallop flavor, but it was a little under seasoned. I would say it was a nice palette cleanser if you will, and at least the rice was nice and fluffy. I would have to say that the food here is comforting and hearty, but it didn't have as much depth of flavor as I would have liked. However, you really get your money's worth when you come here. It was $49 for everything before tip, and we had so many leftovers to take home. Our waiter even took our plates and packaged them to go for us, so that was a nice touch. I'm used to packaging my own leftovers these days. There's something for everyone at this restaurant, and I would like to be back to try some of their other dishes. Another table across from us ordered the Mongolian beef, which came on a sizzling platter, and that smelled so good. That will definitely be a contender next time we visit. I'm definitely thankful that Tasty Kitchen was open on Thanksgiving, and will keep this restaurant in our rotation for a holiday meal.

My husband and I came here after lunch and ordered two sauce, fried rice, a spicy, braised beef dish, and gai lan (Chinese broccoli). I was so excited to eat the fried rice and it tasted exactly like what I imagined it to taste like. I don't typically like really starchy, thick sauces, but that was exactly what I was looking for. I don't know, it's not like it's anything super special or a crazy amazing delicious dish, it's just a nostalgic taste that I really missed and used to only be able to get at the old tea house in Davis over a decade ago. The spicy braised beef, unfortunately was the kind of spicy. I didn't want it to be, so if you don't like tongue, numbing spicy, this is not the dish for you. That being said, the rest of the dish was good, I found the meat to be quite tender And well seasoned, when I could taste beyond numbness, lol. Vegetables are vegetables, really not more to say about that. I'll definitely come back for the fried rice and to try other clay pot dishes, which they have a lot of variety of. Also, it seems like a lot of people really enjoy their duck, so I'll be make sure to order that next time. In terms of ambience or service, it is a Chinese restaurant. You get what you get, and that is a person who brings your food out. Just kidding (kind of) I'm not expecting five star restaurant levels of service at this price point. Plates and cups were clean, the server came when I raised my hand, idk I don't really need more than that! Also, as a Vietnamese person who always has cash on her, I love when I get a discount (5%) for using cash.

Despite there being endless selections in Sacramento sometimes the American Chinese options are .... bleh ... They are either too oily. Mediocre taste. Overpriced. The fried rice was a little more unique than I've personally tried before with pieces of beef and cabbage. But still very tasty.
