first, note there's a slight change. The previous owner handed it over to the workers so they've also updated the name to "Precision Mechanix". Mostly the same people. AND STILL GREAT AND HONEST. Our car engine grumbled. At first we thought it might be road noise (newly paved...) but it continued. I dropped it off and they diagnosed it as.... sit down for this one ... a mouse had chewed up an ignition coil connection wire. Now SLEAZY shops could have made up all sorts of issues starting with the ignition coil itself or engine issues and there's no easy way to double check. But these folk were honest and charged, well, I won't say the amount but a very fare price. They once left me stranded on the side of the expressway. I had a new fuel pump installed at this garage for almost $500.00. I made it about twenty miles when I broke down and had to have the vehicle towed back to them. Obviously the fuel pump wasn't the issue. Not even so much as an apology for having misdiagnosed the problem. A huge headache. Steer clear of this place. read more

We were a long way from home and had a strange sound coming from our passenger side rear tire. I brought my car here because the ignition was not working. I asked for a full work up. During my experience here, I found the process took far longer than anyone anticipated or I was quoted. They didn't charge for an evaluation. During my discussion with Tony I was quoted $975.45. This is a word-by-word quote from the phone call: "Hey it's Tony from Tim's. I finally got a list together for you with the pricing. A couple things, let me see where to start. It needs a new battery. We need to fix some wiring that is near the transmission that has rubbed through. Um, it needs a headlight bulb which you knew. We need to blow off the drains. They were full of dirt, that should take care of that water leak for you. Could use some front pads and rotors. It could use a 4-wheel alignment. And rear sway bar links. We talked about that piece out in the front, that's a backing plate. We can bend that right back, nothing serious at all. Something that I just mentioned to you that you're gonna need in the future are probably some tail lights, they're broke. I'm sure you know. It is something we can get done. We can try to get it done late today, it depends on how the wiring issue goes. could take a little time to get that done. To do everything that we talked about would be $975.45" I called a few minutes later and got Tony. To quote that phone call: Me: "Hey, this is Shelby. I just got off the phone with Tony I was gonna call back about (my car). If you guys want to go through with that new battery, the wiring, the new headlight and tail light, all the brake pads and blowing off the drains and all of that basically, the alignment and stuff. That's cool by me. I'll pay the $975 for it. When it's finished I can come and pay. The full run down of everything would be perfect." Tony: "We'll get it done for you." I called in and requested my brake pads back. They had a warranty and I wanted to return them since they were faulty. When I tried, they were rejected because the brake pads were in good condition. According to Tony, "The rotors were warped. So any time the rotors are warped you gotta change the pads because the pads is actually what made it warped. So there was plenty of material life left on there but the reason why it was warped was because of that so that's why we change them. Any time you change a rotors or pads you have to change them both, ya know, together in pairs." Wouldn't you imagine my surprise when I get my car back and the tail lights are untouched. When I addressed that the following ensued: Tony: "I can get a price on them (the tail lights) for you." Me: "I was under the impression that these were going to be done because I confirmed this during our calls." Tony: "Well, the tail lights weren't in the price. It was just something that I mentioned to you." I waited for Tony to get a quote on the tail lights, in case I wanted to just have it done so it was taken care of. The ending of the tail light scenario is anti-climatic. Tony told me that they weren't included in the quote, it would take days to get parts for body work in (this was said almost in a "you should have known this" sort of attitude. I have no idea why - it's not like I would have any idea what parts Tim's has on hand for repairs.) and when I brought up that I confirmed during my call that we were doing the tail lights he essentially told me I'd have to call back to talk to the owner. I wasn't about to fight tooth and nail for additional repairs. Even if Tim's were to do them - at this point, I wouldn't have trusted the quality of the work. As if that wasn't enough to make this an unpleasant interaction, my car started to make a squeaky/grinding noise when I made right turns. I reached out to Tim's again, spoke with Tony, and set up a time to have it brought back. This is what they claim happened: "There was a backing plate that we bent on the right side, was fine, it was actually the backing plate on the drivers side that was making a noise so we bent that for you. Nothing crazy." The reason I write this review now, nearly 6 or 7 months later, is because I took my car in to be evaluated elsewhere and was informed there is NO lubricant on my rear sway bars. Tim's auto was negligent with my repair, communicated poorly, and was never timely or accurate in time estimates given. I would absolutely never recommend them to anyone under any circumstances. I wanted to support a local, small business. I hope that after reading this review they will do better. To their credit, the evaluation was no charge. They did bend the plates for free, and they blew the dirt out for free as well. That doesn't negate from the fact that they didn't lubricate a crucial part of my vehicle that they were directly repairing. Nor does it change the fact that they mislead me (either with poor communication skills or intentionally) to believe more repairs were going to be completed than what actually was done. read more

Tim's is consistently higher in estimates. Recently was quoted over 800.00 for an overheated engine. Took it to another place for second opinion and it was 500.00 less. Had it fixed for the lower price and the car is running fine. Charged my son 30.00 to fix a flat, about 15.00 more than we've paid anywhere else. I would highly recommend you get a second opinion after Tim gives a quote. read more

I talked to them on a Monday and set up an appointment for Wednesday and could drop car off Tuesday evening. I called before heading over Tuesday and was told that my spot was given away. When I finally had enough he told me it was something completely different than what it actually was(It was never looked at) I called the day prior and asked what was going on with it I was told by Tony it was in the garage and they were trying to figure it out, oddly enough I was driving by at the same time I called and seen my car still sitting in the same spot it was towed to 8 days prior. After my front wheel nearly fell off my car while driving down a country road, I coasted my car into the parking lot next to Tim's Auto entirely by chance. I popped in without an appointment, thinking it was going to cost me and probably eat up my entire afternoon. Not only were the mechanics--including owner Tim--pleasant and welcoming, they were quick! I was in and out in 30 minutes. They hoisted my car, fixed the wheel to blame AND checked the other wheels just to make sure they were safe and in working order. All at no charge because I'd brought the replacement parts in myself. I can't rave enough about these guys. I've been to a million garages and dealerships and, as a woman, always feel as though I'm being condescended to, rushed, or hoodwinked. Not at Tim's Auto. They were patient, nice, and more than fair. Milan is a bit off the beaten path, but given my positive visit I am willing to drive 20 extra minutes for a repeat experience. read more

I was traveling through the area and had a wheel nearly fall off of my car. Dave's Towing (another class act) loaded my vehicle on a flat bed and contacted Tony (owner) of Tim's Auto. I needed 5 new lug nuts and studs and Tony was able to find the parts in Ann Arbor. While he picked up the parts, the other gentlemen at the shop removed the broken parts. Just got my Jeep wrangler back from a major repair, an oil cooler housing leak that the dealership of coarse acted like they had no clue what I was talking about although this is a big issue for them. Being new in town I used Yelp to help (sorry, I couldn't resist). A review said Tim was THE MAN: fair, trust worthy, honest and technically terrific. My wifes car was DOR (dead on road) so I had it taken to Tim. As a little test, I had her deal with him. He worked with her just like he would with me. He met her upon arrival (5 minutes before he closed). Took a few minutes to make an initial evaluation and started the paperwork. He ended up staying over a few minutes, but extended this courtesy to her anyway. He called the next morning and confirmed the diagnosis and confirmed that we wanted the work done. He had to change the timing belt on our Hyandi. They had the job completed the same day. Great Job Tim! You passed the test and won our buisness! read more

I took my car here a few months ago for a brake check and Tim did a great job fixing what firestone auto care messed up. Did'nt charge me an arm & a leg either. Avoid Tims auto at all costs! I took my vehicle to tim to put a new fuel pump and fuel filter in.. The next day I picked up the vehicle assuming it was fixed and took it to get gas. The gas began to starting spilling out from underneath when I began to pump. When I returned to tims auto they took the car with no explanation or timeframe of how long it would take to fix. After a half hour I asked for status report and tim became very confrontational demanding me to be patient once again without telling me anything. After an hour tim claimed the car was fixed and told me I need to understand accidents happen. I told him I understand but I thought the way he handeled it was very unprofessional. Tim then said "good, I wasn't gonna do anymore work on your car anyway". My car is still leaking gas, a problem it didn't have previous to my tims visit. My overall expierence at tims left me very concerned for all his customers that have trusted him to do quailty work. read more
