When the contractor doing the insurance rebuild on a quarter of my house lived down to every flakey-contractor cliche, including screwing up parts of the job and leaving the rest incomplete when he vanished utterly, I was in a serious bind. John and his team at Tilebaths completed a full bath remodel at my house at the beginning of this year. I opted to obtain building permits for the all of the work which led to some delays due to scheduling of inspections and waiting for the inspector to arrive. I should mention the city inspector and shower door installer gave high remarks on the work that Tilebaths completed. Pictures are worth a thousand words and they speak to the superb craftsmanship by John's team. This is to be expected given that John still builds showers using the time tested, old school "mud float" method, a painstaking process that ensures a completely waterproof structure in which the surfaces to be tiled are perfectly plumb, level and square. Few contractors utilize this method anymore because of the high level of skilled required and extra time involved. Most contractors nowadays are about getting in and out of the job as quickly as possible while maximizing their profits, leading them to use more "contractor friendly" methods and materials to build their shower, such as foam or cement boards that save the contractors time but are inferior to John's process in terms of waterproofing, durability and aesthetics of the finished product. Ever wonder why showers in very old homes used to last for decades without leaks or issues? It's because they were built using the same process that John uses. John takes pride in his work and makes sure that all applicable building standards and particularly guidelines published by the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) are followed. Having worked closely with John during the entire remodel, it was clear to me that his priority is to give his clients the most functional, durable and aesthetically pleasing product possible. He is able to do all of this at a very competitive price. Equally important is the fact that John and his team are wonderful people to work with. He listened to what we wanted and followed through. Communication was great, and he always responded quickly and answered my questions thoroughly. Luis, the employee who actually installed the tile was also top notch. He asked questions about what/how we wanted things, was efficient, and paid attention to details. He was careful to cover furniture from dust, and he always cleaned up at the end of the day. Upon completion of the project, we were slightly unsatisfied with the finish work around the baseboard.
