As a long time client of Nelson and KoBolt Construction, I am appalled at the 1 star review that was left a couple days ago, as it in no way reflects Nelson or his crew. I met Nelson through Yelp years ago when I needed one of my properties completely remodeled. Since the moment we met, he and his employees have always provided OUTSTANDING service and workmanship, with the highest moral compass toward my properties, my family and myself. Due to the excellent work provided on the original property, I have hired him numerous times since to do other small jobs and one other complete kitchen and bathroom remodel to a separate property. No surprises were had when all of the work that was completed was to the absolute highest quality. Nelson Moreno is one of the hardest working and most genuine people I know; not only this, he is honest, trustworthy, caring and just simply a good human. If you're looking for these qualities in your next contractor, hire KoBolt Construction and if you're still not sure, read all of the rest of the 5 star reviews from his other clients as his reputation proceeds him. No, I was NOT paid to leave this review. Thank you Nelson for always being there for our properties when we've needed you! read more

We hired Kobolt to help us with renovating a bathroom, adding a half bath, electrical work and updating the fireplace. They helped us, not only with the renovation, but also the design. They drew up the plans and navigated the red tape of getting our plans approved by the city. Then once the work got started their communication was great. They send you weekly detailed reports which show you what work got done and what is still to come. They also provide you with an itemized list along with SKU numbers. Also, if there are any unforeseen issues they will communicate the issues and provide you with options. They are trustworthy and follow through on their commitments. read more

Kobolt construction did my ADU and I could not happier. Nelson was the reason for my happiness. He converted my 2 car garage into a living space, have kitchen, bathroom, island. He gave me the statistics of the job weekly and suggestions. You don't even have to monitor him and his team work. Start on time and clean up his work. Any difficulty, he keep you updated. I trusted Nelson so much, I even took 3 weeks vacation over seas. He kept me in communication either via text or email the process of the project Nelson even offered to go down to city hall pick up the second permit for me. He did beyond a contractor's job and very professional. Because of all this I gave him work from my house that I had originally contracted through someone else, and of course I was extremely grateful that I did! All of my friends and guests have complimented so much on his work. I have and continue recommending Kobolt Construction mainly because of Nelson to all of my friends or anyone who need to remodel their house. He is the type of person that takes so much pride in his work and reputation. He continously kept me informed step by step, doesn't skip or try to do fast, exceptional job and character. I feel confident that anyone I refer him to, will experience the quality and professionalism that I was blessed with. Thank you Kobolt... Thank you so very much Nelson! read more

I've done plenty of renovations to my current house and never met someone as kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating as Nelson. My house was out of the city-county they service; even still, he put together a personal and extremely detailed write-up that outlined what I can expect when tackling my second story addition project. I was blown away by Nelson's kind gesture even though I lived outside of his service area. My only regret is I didn't live closer as I'm sure he would've been the perfect person/company for my project. Much love to Nelson and the KoBolt Construction crew! read more

Short summary: Hire Nelson and team if you want a contractor that you can trust and will be honest with you. I needed to renovate my mom's house that has not been touched in about 30 years. The kitchen was old and dark. She had old lighting , kitchen cabinets that were small and her baseboards were destroyed by our old dogs. Her bathrooms were not any better where in her master bath--none of us could work the shower, water didn't drain that well, she had some old electrical heater in the wall that when you accidentally turned on it would spark. The hall way bathroom wasn't any better with an old vent that leaked water, toliet that was loud, bathroom cabinet that was so low that made you feel like a giant. My mom knew she needed to fix up the house but didn't want to or thought she could get some cheap fix in the house. Also we decided to do this during a pandemic!! I finally convinced my mom that work needed to happen in her house and started interviewing contractors. I'm going to say that Nelson stood out b/c of the following--he was straight forward, he listened to what we wanted, he measured in a manner that was so detailed oriented compared to all the other contractors ( FYI he's a civil engineer!) and he knew what he was talking about and would gently steer us from some of our stupid ideas! Simple things around what type of material works best in a shower so that its not slippery! that makes a difference since all i kept seeing was my mom slipping on her shower!! Also when he provided the estimate, he also included renderings of the renovations so that we could make sure that we were aligned completely. The other complexity to this renovation was that I needed a contractor that i can trust and communicate with from Northern California. As stated, this work was happening during the pandemic and to be safe, we had moved my mom up to NCAL so she would not be compromised. This mean that communication was going to be critical to make sure that Nelson and i were on the same pages during this renovation. Renovation: I'm going to say communication, project management was absolutely ideal. i got daily updates and when there was questions nelson always reached out and vice versa. My initial feelings of am i doing the right thing disappeared as i saw the progress being made in demos and renovations. Also Nelson provided a weekly summary of what was completed and not completed. Unexpected work--replacement of pipes in the entire house!! We did have a major unexpected work in the house which was replacing all of my mom's house pipes. They were steel pipes that were disintegrating and something my mom already knew b/c her pipes kept getting blocked especially when she had family over at her house. She knew b/c she would call someone to snake the pipes every couple of months. I mean we honestly thought she wouldn't let us use the dishwasher b/c she was being the asian mom. The case was that the water wasn't draining. Nelson called me about this b/c he took the effort to get a camera to snake the pipes and showed me the results. he gave me couple of options but based on what he showed i knew that the pipes would need to be replaced. I will also say that this was a situation that almost made me fly during the pandemic but had my uncle go over to check out the situation and agreed that we needed to replace the pipes. you can see pictures of the scope of work but i will say after getting it done, there is a piece of mind about the house. the plumbing is amazing where we can now run all the showers, laundry, and dishwasher w/o worrying that something was going to get backed up!! (cuz prior it did happen!) overall work results- We love it! you can see in the pictures the 80% finished product (FYI i forgot to take pictures of the final product!) Nelson was a great partner in making recommendations from tiles, cabinet, hardware, etc. Without him it would have been impossible of having this completed while being 400 miles away and in a pandemic. He's team followed all the COVID protocols and were extremely neat and tidy. If you want a contractor that can project manage, communicate really well, and take pride in their work then hire KoBolt construction. They really can do everything and his team is amazing. I will definitely use them again but my mom who is extremely picky loves her new kitchen and bathrooms! She loves cooking in her new kitchen!!! She keeps saying how much bigger and brighter it feels! Also if you want more details-please message me. I can share more details but loved working with nelson and team. read more

I don't usually leave reviews so please understand this is extremely important to me and I hope it helps anyone with our similar situation. Our project consisted of a two-car garage being converted into a studio apartment, as well as a whole main house remodel. We started our project with another architect and company, but soon found that they were not a fit for us. We were connected/referred to Nelson of Kobolt Construction. After our first conversation I did not think they would take on our project because of the size and the impatience my wife has and her requirement to have 10 different crews working at once to get the project done as soon as possible. After meeting with Nelson, we knew we had found the right contractor and the requirements he made were only to benefit us in the long run. We could not be happier with the outcome, dedication, endurance, patience, and hard work of Nelson and his crews. So many times, we were frustrated from the city, the City Inspector (he was not only unreasonable but required things to be done that had nothing to do with the inspection he was there to preform), the codes, the existing problems behind every wall. Nelson went over and above so many times explaining, sometimes several times in different ways so that we understood the issues, the procedures, and our options. One of the main issues that we could not be happier with was the weekly reports provided by Nelson, my wife is very meticulous and loves reports and clarity. Nelson provided every week. We always knew where we were with each aspect of the construction process. We always knew what we owed and a detailed summary of each payment. Nelson also answered all of my wife's questions and non-understanding questions of the report. Thank you, Nelson, (and thank you to his wife, for putting up with us) When deadlines for material specs were needed, Nelson would follow up and stay on top of us to make the decisions needed at that time. Unfortunately, he would answer the phone anytime even while we were at a store trying to make a decision. Going over above, cannot even begin to describe the patience and care he took with our project. Again, with my wife's impatience we did end up using some other contractors, without it being his responsibility Nelson helped them, provided guidance, made us aware of concerns before their work was completed, even stood inspections for items that were not his responsibility. Many times, Nelson had multiple Kobolt crews onsite exceeding deadlines. They had to work around a lot of existing household items. When they did, they were always courteous and cautious. We understand we were not the easiest or consistent customers, but Nelson and his crews always made us feel at ease and that our project was their #1 priority. Nelson, it was a true pleasure to be your customer and we hope you understand how much you will always mean to us!!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU NELSON and KOBOLT!!! read more

If you are reading this I am going to just start off by saying. Ask Nelson and his wife, (its a family business), to give you an estimate and then hire them. It will be the best experience you will ever have with a contractor. Trust me, I am a son of a contractor and Kobolt Construction is way better then ANY contractor that I have worked with, yes including my Father. Here is why I hired Kobolt Construction and will again. Recently my wife and I had our first kid so we needed more outside space and storage and I had no time to build it. So Nelson came and gave me a fair bid to remove an old concrete slab and poor a new one plus build a shed and a large Gazebo to fit the style of my Craftsman house. Not only does Nelson have an engineering background, his crew was super smart and skilled as well. But the best part was Nelsons attention to detail and communication. Really, he checked in with me everyday, showed up when he said he would, cleaned up every day and even sent me photos of the project when I was out of town on business. Total class act and super professional. Plus to top it all off, when the job was done Nelsons wife stopped by and brought us flowers for our new space, Who Does that still!!!!! So again, long story short. Stop looking and start hiring Kobolt Construction. P.S. he is a fellow Fullertonian as well. read more

Don't Hire Nelson and Kobolt Construction! I hired Kobolt to redo a guest bathroom. Day three of my project Nelson comes screaming into my home "are you going to let my guys work today"! His workers arrived before he did. I simply ask them if they could use the thicker plastic over some open walls. This bathroom was connect to a guest bedroom. Mind you I payed extra for this and it wasn't done on day one. So when the guys showed up on day three I polity ask if they would please try and protect this bedroom. Brandon his tile guy apologized and was covering the room. There was also a 6 foot strip of carpet that wasn't covered at all. Not sure why...I've done many remodels and I know it's simple/easy to lay down proper protection on the whole area. Not just part of it. I was starting to thing this isn't going so easy. Already he's blowing up at me. Day five I had enough of his arrogance. He doesn't apologize for anything instead he blames me. We parted ways! I paid him 3k. Now the real nightmare begins. The new plumbing that I paid him to do. Re-route 4"ABS drainpipe, add new toilet 3"ABS waste pipe, re-route master bathroom 2"ABS drainpipe add 2"ABS vent pipe. Pex hoses for hot and cold water. So a month or so go by. We hire a new contractor to remodel this same bathroom. This bathroom was demo down to the studs and the new plumbing is all that Kobolt did before we parted ways. New contractor pulls up the subfloor and finds a complete disaster with regard to the plumbing Kobolt did. The Pex tubing are missing all the "o" rings. The ABS with reverse level major issues which wouldn't have drained properly. All the plumbing Kobolt did was ran incorrectly and had to be demo out and re-ran correctly! Here are the pictures to show this awful, incorrect plumbing job Nelson and Kobolt did! read more

Listen - if you're like us, you're looking to find a great and reliable contractor for your project. Lucky for you (and us) - there's Nelson and his team at Kobolt Construction. We sought out estimates from four contractors for the addition and kitchen/bathroom renovation to an older home we had recently purchased. Three of the four contractors handed us one to two pages with vague descriptions and an estimate. Nelson called us and asked detailed questions. He provided a thorough 15 page estimate that read like a book - from foundations to finishings. Nelson takes so much time to fully understand a project and his estimate was spot on. We were recommended to Nelson and his team and feel so lucky to have found him. There were no surprises in costs and the only additions to that original estimate were from unexpected issues (what we thought was a wall but was just a pocket door or an uneven flooring in living room due to the age of the home) or from additions we wanted added to the project (recessed lighting in all rooms and new HVAC system). Nelson is detailed and dedicated in his work. He will always be honest and direct, and provide advice when needed but respect your decisions. His integrity is seamed into the quality of his work - and the results show it. And then there's his team - knowledgeable and kind - these guys are the best. Shout out to Walter, Brandon, Andy and the rest of the team! We got to know these men through the course of their time and they're just the best. Brandon did the amazing tile work in our bathrooms that everyone just raves about. These guys do quality work and are respectful and kind. It just doesn't get any better than Nelson and the team at Kobolt. Our home renovation was such a success - and we're already planning to work with this team on the ADU. Do yourself a favor, and work with Nelson and the Kobolt team. They build beautiful and safe projects with skill and integrity. Absolute men of their crafts and we are just beyond grateful for the stunning home they've created for us. read more

Experienced contractor, extremely reliable and communicative! Nelson and his crew performed our master bath total remodel and framed an extra closet in the bedroom. Yes, there were some hiccups and bumps along the way (which happen with all jobs), but they were manageable. At the end of the day, I couldn't be happier with my new sanctuary! Nelson does his best to ensure you're happy with the work. His guys are also reliable and trustworthy-- his right hand man, German, is the best! read more

We are huge Kobolt fans and believe your first conversation with Nelson Moreno will make you a fan as well. But if you need further convincing here is what sets Kobolt apart: Communication. Kobolt shines here and did so for us from day one to the end of the project. Our project was extensive. Nelson was engaged and responsive from the first chat on his website through the many twists and turns of the long process. He was always quick to respond to texts and emails and indulged our inexperienced questions. Each week (for 7 months!) he provided spreadsheet financial and construction updates. Expertise. Nelson is an engineer by education and has broad professional experience. He hires experienced employees who line up with his integrity commitment and contribute to a culture that makes them a pleasure to have around. Diplomacy. Construction is so much more than executing plans. There are architects, city officials, sub-contractors and vendors to interact with on the road to completion. Nelson navigated through some rough seas like a seasoned diplomat. We literally marveled at the challenges he led us through. Addicted to problem solving. This one is a clear illustrator of how a personality predisposes someone to excellence in a profession. Many times we discovered Nelson climbing in and through recesses in our basement or attic along with his employees trying to solve the mysteries of an old house. He truly can't rest until he gets clarity. Perhaps the best illustration of Kobolt excellence is how we felt the day of final inspection. Almost equal to the joy we felt over the superb work they had done was the sadness that the crew would not be a part of our daily lives any longer. That's the feeling you want at the end of a huge undertaking. We will always be grateful for Nelson Moreno and Kobolt Construction. read more

I purchased a 1921 Craftsman style fixer upper in Downtown Fullerton 7 or 8 years ago. Several years back, I watched a very similar house down the street have the exterior remodeled. I spoke to the homeowner regarding the contractor which was Nelson Moreno from Kobolt construction. The homeowner was extremely satisfied with their experience and the end result of the work performed. Earlier this year I decided it was time to give my place a facelift and find out what was underneath this 100+ year old siding and roof so I reached out to Nelson. Nelson and I laid out a plan knowing that there could and most likely would be surprises as we removed the entire exterior, roof included. Sure enough, we encountered quite a few issues including damaged framing and flooring from termites and water damage to improper electrical wiring etc. Nelson is very good at explaining in Laymans terms the issues, the options, best practices etc. which made this endeavor much less painful. I needed advice as well as opinions on the basic things too like shower tile and bathroom flooring and fixtures to paint colors, lighting, etc. Nelson has a great eye and isn't afraid to give his honest opinion if asked. Nelson also has a team of incredibly talented guy's that accomplish more in a day than I thought possible. They are friendly, courteous, respectful and honestly a joy to work with. I actually look forward to coming home at the end of the day and interacting with them. I could go on and on but to sum it up, if you're looking for a contractor who honestly has your best interest at heart, treats your home like their own, and takes extreme pride in the end result, you might want to reach out to Kobolt! read more

Nelson was easy to work with during the entire process. He and his team remodeled the master bathroom and updated two additional bathrooms. The work was well done and I am happy with the results. Nelson is our trusted contractor who took care of our home renovation. We wanted to make our new house which we had just purchased into a more modern house with an open concept kitchen/living room. We are busy working parents with no previous experience of going through the home renovation process. We had heard many unsatisfying stories from our friends and families in dealing with contractors. Since we lack knowledge, time and experience, we desperately needed to find an expert who we could trust to satisfy our dreams and needs. We started this whole process by interviewing a couple of contractors that were recommended online by reading reviews on Yelp, Google, Angies List, and Houzz. Since we are business owners ourselves and understand that online review platforms could be misleading with inaccurate reviews that were endorsed by businesses themselves, we could not fully trust those reviews. We started getting bids and interviewing the contractors. Kobolt Construction had great reviews. Albeit having only a limited number of reviews, we felt as though the reviews on Kobolt Construction were sincere. Since the company is fairly a young company, Nelson, the owner, responded directly himself whereas other companies were usual business-oriented companies that had sent their representatives or managers to give quick and broad estimates to sell products and earn the business. What really set Nelson apart from others was that he sat down with me and asked what we exactly envisioned and told us what is required to achieve the goal step by step in our first meeting. From meeting him, I could already tell that he is a very detailed oriented contractor who wanted to do an excellent job to make customers satisfied. He also promised us to be communicative throughout the whole process, which he ended up going above and beyond by texting/emailing promptly. We ended up choosing him and had never regretted once after. He kept the timeline that he initially promised inexact. Every move was designed and calculated with his team of architects, interior designer, and subcontractors. Since we could not afford to stop by the job site every day, he would send daily reports with pictures every single day to update us. In fact, we only stopped by once a week since we decided to give him our full trust. We really appreciate the craftsmanships he and his team presented. There was no cutting corners or providing substandard jobs on any of the services they had provided. He refused to do any of the work without a city permit for our safety and quality. The end result had truly exceeded our expectations. His price was very fair among other quotes that we received. Although he was not the cheapest, I knew I was not going to get any quality work in return with cheaper options. I actually think his price excellent with what he actually provides with his time and passion. Overall, I would highly recommend Nelson to anyone who is looking for a contractor who he/she can trust. He had really treated us like his family from day one. He is a man with integrity and I respect him. Going through construction was a tough process from decision making to seeing unexpected things arise. However, I will truly miss our interaction. I thank God for sending him to us as I think it is very tough to meet a person you can really trust in this world. I look forward to any of our future collaboration together. I sincerely wish that people like Nelson would be blessed in whatever they do. read more

I hired Kobolt Construction for a kitchen remodel project. I am impressed with Nelson's project managing skills. He is organized and informed us on our project's progress on a daily basis. He works fast, responds quickly questions and concerns, provides clear invoice tracking records, and worked to accommodate our tight schedule. Nelson and his team were courteous and professional and his workers always showed up on schedule. I've had other contractors promise to send workers, and not show up for other projects. I did not experience this problem with the Kobolt team. I am happy with Kobolt construction's services. read more

Construction on your home can be a very stressful and intrusive process. Nothing goes as planned, there will be hiccups and set backs. Because of this it is SO SO SO important to hire someone you feel comfortable talking with and vise versa. After interviewing at least a dozen contractors we decided to go with Kobolt Construction. A big win for us. Bree and Nelson were there to answer questions whenever needed before the project even started. (Lets be honest, most contractors take a week to return a phone call.) When Construction started Nelson checked in daily to discuss what was going on, answer any questions and advise us of what was coming in the future. There were set backs, yes, but we knew there would be and it was easy to work through because Nelson and his team had our trust. In the end we had a beautiful new bathroom and new home siding on our 1925 California bungalow. I would recommend Kobolt Construction on the following: Honesty, professionalism, talent and teamwork. read more

I first met Nelson (the owner) from Kobalt during my research for a contractor through home advisor. I met with a few contractors before I met Nelson and also after my meeting with him. I immediately had a good feeling about him and noticed how much pride and responsibility he takes of his work. He always answers your calls and he is very clear and honest from start to finish. I could just give him 5 stars for his work, however that wouldn't be fair. He deserves a lot more than that. I had to place a new fence between my house and the neighbors and I learned pretty quickly that it is harder than you think to hire a company which is not specialized in fence installation to do the job. Nelson helped through the entire process by contacting manufactures and also to make sure he would install it properly and in a timely manner. I had a lot of issues having the material delivered (about 2 1/2 months to be specific). Nelson understood and waited for the material to be available patiently. I design spaces and have an engineering degree myself. I am very specific and I know exactly what I want. I don't expect anything less than perfection when it comes to any project and I will not write a good review unless it is fair and accurate. Also don't write good reviews because someone asked me to. With that said, I will always take my time to recognize an AMAZING job with a PERFECT outcome. My fence has 86' in length and it is a straight line. After Kobalt finished the work the first think I noticed is how every single panel is lined up perfectly. It is hard to go to the backyard and not just keep looking at it. It looks beautiful and high end. It is now the focal point of the yard and all my neighbors love it! Kobalt workers are friendly, kind, respectful and accountable. They worked over a holiday weekend with a smile in their faces. One of them passed on a family vacation to attend to my project. Not once he complained. He just wanted to make sure we were happy. They checked with me the entire time to make sure I was ok with the way the project was going. This is a company you can trust and has a unique quality that many out there don't. They are not focused on the next job. They are focus on your job. The explanation is simple. They CARE! I highly recommend this company to anyone. I am sure I will be working with them in the future and I hope after you read this you will do the same. read more

For our guest bath remodel, we interviewed three local contractors and Kobolt was the clear choice. Their bid was comparable to the others we received, but their service set them apart. The owner, Nelson, took the time to answer all of our questions about the process, worked to understand our design vision, and even produced complimentary renderings of showing what the finished product would look like (a nice surprise). Throughout the project Nelson and his crew did great work and kept a clean and orderly work site (that's important). Whenever any issues arose during the project (such as a supplier sending the wrong part) he took responsibility and quickly addressed the problem. Overall, we're really happy with the end result and we're planning to work with Kobolt again for our next project. read more

Nelson and his team renovated a bathroom for us, repaired drywall and installed flooring and we have never had a better experience with anyone in the construction field. To start, Nelson's proposal was like nothing we'd ever seen. It was detailed, transparent and easy to understand. The cost of the job was fair, and we got everything we paid for and more. Nelson responds in a timely manner, kept us updated daily throughout the job, showed up at the jobsite daily, was knowledgeable and highly skilled, had great ideas, listened to our needs and executed them beautifully. His crew was outstanding. They were on time, neat, clean, respectful of our home, and their workmanship and quality of work was outstanding. They completed the job in the amount of time projected and displayed themselves in a trustworthy and honorable manner. So thankful for people like Nelson and Kobolt Construction. read more

I found Kobolt Construction via Home Advisor after having a horrible experience with the first contractor I hired and fired. My first contact was with Bree, Nelson's wife. I told her I required responsiveness throughout this project and if I wouldn't receive that, tell me now so I can move on. Bree assured me Nelson was very responsive. While I was wary given my past experience, I scheduled a consult with Nelson. From the moment I met Nelson, he was professional and honest. We had a great initial first meeting to discuss the project (an 875 sq. ft. addition to the house). Nelson promptly followed up with a competitive and thorough bid. Nelson followed up offering me references. I checked with the references and all of them had nothing but great things to say about Nelson, his crew, his professionalism, the quality of his work as well as the fact work was completed on time and on budget. I was sold! We entered into a contract and Nelson has been professional, honest, thorough, incredibly responsive and communicative, while also offering suggestions to improve the project, not upselling, rather makes suggestions that may work better for our family. Nelson pays incredible attention to detail. Additionally, he has gone way above and beyond in helping us move this project forward with the City. The approval process was somewhat difficult. He was extremely helpful in helping us navigate through that process! To date, our project is not yet complete; however, once the project was approved by the City, Nelson and his wonderful crew were up and running and our project is moving along beautifully. A bonus: each day when they leave, the job site is very clean and neat. Also, as the project progresses, Nelson sends photos to provide updates of the completed work. I have complete confidence we will be 100% pleased with the end result. I'm so incredibly happy with my choice in Kobolt that I had to write a review now! My only regret is that I didn't find Nelson and Kobolt sooner! P. S. I will provide update when project has been completed. Robyn-Anaheim read more

Kobolt Construction is truly the best construction firm you can hire. It is a family business, and they treat their clients like family. (I would like to believe that I am their favorite client ever, but I know they treat everyone special). I originally hired them to do two bathroom remodels and a kitchen remodel. As I saw their work, I kept adding more projects because I knew they were the best company for the job. Nelson would sit with me every evening to go over the days activities as well as the plans for the next day. Nelson even helped me with other projects out of his scope, such as moving furniture and cleaning my garage. Every employee that worked on my project was nice and I felt extremely comfortable leaving them alone in my home. Working with Nelson, his beautiful wife Bree, and my daily crew, I can say that hiring Kobolt Construction was the best thing I've ever done for my house.
