Dennis and his team converted our old 400 sq ft detached garage into a beautiful ADU that worked within our budget. He went off of plans that we originally got from an architect, but honestly if I had known about Custom ADU before I got the plans I would have just had them do it. We came across some unique issues with the old construction, but Dennis' solutions worked well and we passed inspection with the city of Fullerton. Custom ADU builder did our 2 car garage conversion to a 1bedroom-1bathroom ADU. I'm a realtor and know many contractors and have also heard of the horror stories from others and their experiences with contractors so I was very selective when choosing the contractor to do work on our home. After inquiring and reviewing with several contractors for the job, my husband and I, ultimately decided to go with Custom ADU builders and their contractor Dennis. Dennis was professional, on top of everything, always responded promptly to any calls/texts which was wonderful during the process to have someone so responsive. He did our plans for our space, submitted it all to the city and built it. So it was nice he was a one-stop shop. Usually with others you have to get the plans done from someone else and take to the contractor. With Dennis he did the plans and also was the contractor, which I thought was amazing, in case anything needed adjusting during the process he is both. I like having to not deal with multiple people and moving pieces. The more streamlined the process, the better. Which custom ADU builder does. I'm attaching the photos of our place, it's so spacious and nice, I can't believe it used to be our garage! It's amazing what they were able to do with the space. We built it for my In-laws to retire in. They are now moved in, they moved in beginning of June 2023 and it's been wonderful. They've made it home. Custom ADU builder worked quick and did quality work. I'm impressed and now recommending all my friends and clients to them. All his workers were very lovely, and worked hard. I'm really impressed with how our space turned out. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a contractor. We also just had a leak in our kitchen and having to get it redone, they were my first call. Hope I never see this guy and his "work crew" (if you can call them that) again.. This was our first project and it was a nightmare dealing with him! I regret recommending him to my neighbor who also had a bad experience with him. He talks a good game before signing a contract, 3 weeks later everything goes downhill from there. Poor work ethic, poor communication, no work for months unless we're in the ADU doing it ourselves. We had to buy items that were included in our contract. We painted and stucco ourselves. His own workers would take off on him. Can't trust him! He promise to finish our ADU in less than 3 months TOOK ALMOST A YEAR!!! I'm a homeowner in Buena Park and had my ADU built by Dennis and his team. Short version of my experience: Excellent and open communication, expectations met, satisfied with timeframe of construction and quality of the build. Long story of my experience: I wanted to build a 1,000 sqft 3/2 ADU behind by house. I initially started by reaching out to architects to have plans made that I could then send to builders for bids. This was a waste of time and money. Most are not familiar with the ins and outs of ADUs. I finally found Dennis and was able to see his ADU builds and spent weeks talking with him before signing a contract. He specializes in ADUs and works with an architect that will get your plans approved without much delay. After signing the contract, we all met to walk the property and discuss the best way to use the property. Within a week, the plans were submitted to the city! They were approved quickly and without issue. Construction started the day they were approved and the Total build time was 4 months. I could write a novel on this positive experience but the take away is that there were no surprises and no regrets working with Dennis. read more

My husband and I had the privilege of working with Dennis (Custom ADU Builder), to bring our Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to life.
