It's still good and a standard easy grab and go boba option, but there's lots of other options in the area and lots of other small shops to try. I still like tiger sugar and their consistency but it's not my go to drink. Service is good. Drink is good. Wouldn't say it's a sit and stay type of bubble tea drink spot but inside is cute and cozy. The #1 on the the brown sugar signature items list is delicious, I got it without the pearls and I guess that means I had more to drink in my cup. Sweet flavor but not overly sweet, would definitely get again when I'm in the area. The storefront is small but nice, they have a little area where you can sit in, faces the street so you can watch cars and people pass you by. Some shops specialize in specific type of bubble tea and I will say Tiger Sugar is my go to for brown sugar boba. I probably wouldn't order anything else other than the brown sugar drinks here, specifically their #1 and #2 (my favorite). I'm so happy they had opened one in Philadelphia, I'm now able to get my boba fix whenever I'm in Philadelphia. As a chain, I'm sure they have to follow specific procedures and recipes when making their drinks so the taste is pretty consistent with other Tiger Sugar locations. The only thing about this location is that my drink had too much ice, probably like half of the cup was filled with ice which is why I knocked out a star. The boba scene in Philly Chinatown had exploded since the last time I've had a proper walk around. I was excited to see a Tiger Sugar shop here, after enjoying it in the Boston area. I hyped it up to my mom and the Tall Man, and the drinks did not disappoint. The shop is pretty spare with no indoor seating. The menu and specials are posted up around the plexi glass separating customers from the drink making area (an ongoing pandemic precaution). It's all about the business of boba. There was one person working, and she was helpful with recommendations in both English and Cantonese. I got a hot brown sugar boba black tea with 50% sugar, while the Tall Man ordered a brown sugar taro milk tea and my mom got the mango sago special (the latter two coming only in large sizes). We were all quite happy with our drinks. I love the caramelized taste of the tiger sugar they use (a deeper flavor than normal brown sugar or honey), although it does make the drinks sweeter than my usual preference. But it's worth it! The black tea itself stood out, too. Real taro purée and mango/mango juice were used in the other drinks. My mom, who is usually picky about her sweetness levels and flavors, ended up liking her mango sago so much that she almost forgot to eat lunch. If I have any small complaints, it's that the sweetness levels can't be titrated as much as other shops (only 100%, 50%, or zero sugar). The bubbles also didn't hold up as well in a hot drink and became much softer than I've had elsewhere. Still, I've rounded up from 4.5 stars to 5. Tiger Sugar has carved out a narrow yet satisfying niche, making it unique among the flood of boba shops. Looking forward to coming back! read more

Yeah if you don't have a sweet tooth, Zhongli is not for you. In my opinion, Zhongli is the creme de la creme of boba places. They have the creamiest and tastiest boba drinks around. Something about the sugar that they use is just so good. It's hard to explain, but one sip of one of their drinks and you'll know. It's like a drinkable dessert in a cup. Originally, I had tried Zhongli in Cupertino, CA, but this location in Chinatown of Philly, PA is virtually the same, so it's getting a similar review. For this particular location, I had their limited edition strawberry mochi drink, and it was fantastic. The mochi in the drink had a nice texture and the strawberry milk was delightful. The drinks here are also very picturesque, so that's a plus if you're looking to post on social media. The main negative of Zhongli is that you can't adjust the sugar and ice levels. If you don't have a sweet tooth, or you're one of those Asians who like when desserts are "not too sweet", then this place is probably not for you. It doesn't really apply to me though, I thought the drinks were fantastic. Perhaps also negatives are a limited menu and a cramped venue, but I didn't mind. Enough talk. read more

Personally I do think it's super sweet, but it's not bad if you want a "dessert" drink. I have no idea how they do it, but this place is amazing! I have tried black sugar boba at other places, but this is by far the best. This place has a very limited drink menu, but they honestly don't need to expand. Lines are out the door and for good reason. My favorite is the number 2 - it has pearl and jelly. I'm not a fan of brown sugar milk. When Tiger Sugar first opened all the hype was around the brown sugar milk. I tried it and I wasn't interested. Eventually I learned that they had a black sugar milk tea option and tried it. I remember liking it but for whatever reason I didn't get around to getting it again. I usually gravitate towards Xing Fu Tang when there's one around (im from nyc) but since it wasn't an option here in Philly I decided to give it another try last night and I loved it. My husband and I stopped by Tiger Sugar on opening weekend and thankfully did not have to wait long. Be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes though. I called a few times to try to place a takeout order but it appears they aren't taking calls at the moment. There was a line spilling out of the store and only a few people were allowed to be inside. Before entering, the owner also took the temperature of each person. My husband and I both went with the signature drink (#1) - Black sugar Boba + Pearl Milk with Cream Mousse, and were instructed to shake the tea before drinking it. The streaks from the caramelized syrup are supposed to resemble a tiger's stripes and made the drink looked like the fanciest cup of bubble tea. Also, Tiger Sugar's streaks stayed on longer than other brown sugar milk teas I've had before, even after shaking it a few times, which allowed us to admire them a lil longer before drinking it. The tea was instantly addicting and tastes like drinkable caramel flan. Our only gripe is that you aren't allowed to make adjustments to the drink, because we would have preferred less ice. Tiger Sugar is located right next to the Sanrio store in Chinatown. Parking is harsh, of course, and they don't take phone orders, which makes it more harsh( at first they didn't take phone orders, but in January they did take my phone order) I wanna try everything so I bought #1, #2, and #3. I loved #1 and #2. They both tastes really one of a kind and tasty. One of a kind means no one else in Chinatown can duplicate that taste. I hate #3 because it tastes like hot chocolate but in a cold version, which i hate, would avoid if you are not a hot chocolate fan. I also purchased 5 bags of black sugar popcorn. Oh they were goooood..... They taste very similar to the caramel popcorn. Perfect if you have a sweet tooth. I ate 4 bags within 15 minutes, yes they were that addicting lol. So why the 3 stars? None of my drinks have that tiger stripe look, unfortunately. The cashier can't really speak or understand English well, which make my experience pretty difficult. Every drinks are SOLD AS IT IS, they don't allow alterations(less ice, more boba etc.....) of any type, which is a turnoff. Tiger sugar is the hype per usual, its funny when you hear people walking by whispering to their friends why there's a line for this place if they've never heard of it (esp the aunties and grandparents). But pretty awesome it's in Philly now (the city which I believe has probably every boba shop available in Chinatown, philly is basically Boba town). I've had tiger sugar in Taiwan and NYC primarily so the concept wasn't new to me. Their boba was very fresh and subtle sweet, they also have varying sizes of boba that gives it better texture But their concept which is a downer is that you can't adjust the sugar or ice content, which leaves the tea drinks rather too sweet for my taste. I do appreciate what they advertise as fresh milk for their tiger milk drinks, but its basically only horizon milk that can be purchased from the supermarket store. The girl who took my order also steered me toward the wrong path and told me the wrong ingredients that were in my drink, but hopefully that'll improve since it's just their grand opening week. Overall tiger sugar is a safe choice and worth the experience if you've never had before. Personally for me as a regular boba addict, $6 post tax for a cup of a boba without additional toppings isn't as worth as other boba shops in Chinatown (that's like getting a whole bahn mi). read more

New Boba shop??! Count me there. The new boba battler, Tiger Sugar, in town is a fresh take for boba in Chinatown. I got the #2 which is their signature drink with "tiger jelly". The jelly did not really have any difference in taste in my opinion. I thought it was there for more texture. The wait was around 30+ mins for 20-30 feet outside the shop. It was the second day, so I'm sure they're still working the process out. They checked temperature before going into with limited capacity for indoor orders. The staff was fairly friendly and kind. Props to them for the continuous work. The flavor and boba were good. I found myself finishing the boba fairly quickly and I usually savor my drinks. On the other side, you can't change the size or sugar %. I usually don't like super sugary drinks but I didn't thought not having the option to change the sugar % was bad since the sugar level felt pretty balance. Overall, good new boba spot in Philly. I stopped by Tiger Sugar to have a little boba as our dessert with my partner, and we were pleased overall! Mine had boba and my partner's had pearls (there's a difference actually which I didn't know about - boba is larger than the pearls, and my partner preferred that as it's also less chewy and just smaller). I ordered the green tea with foam and boba and my partner got the coffee with milk and pearls and they were both really delicious; they weren't too sweet, although you can't adjust the sweetness level. Service was great, and our boba came out really quickly. The foam was a nice touch, and unfortunately we weren't able to get a picture before we mixed them up haha but they are very aesthetically pretty! The green tea and coffee flavors of our drinks respectively did come through, and overall again we did really enjoy our experience. However, I docked one star only because I feel like the variety and choices of Tiger Sugar isn't as much as the other boba places in Chinatown?
