Probably my new go-to coffee spot in Philadelphia! And, if you're in the city, you should absolutely be going out of your way for Alchemy Coffee too. Space: Minimalism at its core (and that really clean aesthetic here works)! There's so many places to sit: low top shared tables in the center, low top tables by the window, seats at a high bar facing the wall, seats at a high coworking space-like counter, seats outside when the weather is good. People settle in here and take their time; don't be turned off by that and don't afraid to simply grab a seat next to someone (maybe ask if it's taken, of course). Vibe: This inclusive coffee shop with a great playlist makes you feel welcome! Coffee: The shakeratos are where it's at. "A light and frothy coffee, smooth and delicious made with cold brew concentrate and your choice of whole, skim, or oat milk." LOVE THAT THERE'S NO UPCHARGE FOR OAT MILK. The fresh mint one was refreshing and the seasonal raspberry was lighter then you've probably experienced from artificially, cloyingly sweet options elsewhere. My partner and I could have easily stayed and gotten second rounds. (I hear the vanilla bean one is also really good!) read more

Beautiful little coffee shop in Philly, extremely welcoming as soon as we stepped inside. The menu boasts everything from your classic drip (using their Sankofa blend) to espresso, cold brew, matcha, shakerato, espresso tonics and more. I really loved how easy the menu was to navigate and was intrigued by their house made syrups; I love clean ingredients! We opted for an iced latte with the banana bread syrup, which we were told is rather popular -- delicious, especially because it wasn't overly sweet! The biscuit sandwich was impressive with a beautiful fluffy biscuit, slightly crisp on the outside and soft inside made for a delicious breakfast. On a Saturday morning, it was easy to find a great seat and enjoy conversation over quick bites and sips. Although the blood orange ginger espresso tonic sounded intriguing, I was a little nervous to try it; but maybe next time! read more

One of my favorite places to wfh! The baristas are always so kind, and the ambiance of the place is perfect for chatting with friends or getting some work done. I always feel welcome and the servers are incredibly welcoming. I love getting an iced matcha latte with vanilla + oat milk, or an iced vanilla latte. I do usually get my matcha with an extra shot just because I like it pretty strong! Their breakfast sandwich is also pretty good! read more

I've been coming here for a little while, and I felt like this place was a great first review! I REALLY liked Alchemy at first. Great breakfast food, parfaits (that are seemingly never in stock anymore) that are yummy, and decent coffee. It's just from Elixr, which everyone and their mom has their beans in the city. I don't hate it, but maybe try something else out. The space itself is absolutely puny. Good luck finding a spot to sit. Luckily I never needed to come in and actually sit for extended periods of time, so I was fine popping in and out. However, the line can get in the way of just about everything due to the small nature of the place and how many tables and chairs are packed into this shoe box. Bathroom is borderline inaccessible, and you have to step on 10 peoples toes just to pick up your beverage at their tiny hand-off counter. The staff has also seriously declined in quality. There used to be a staff that was friendly, quick, and welcoming, but now it feels like no one there actually wants to work there. You walk in and no one welcomes you. Employees would rather talk to each other than take customers orders. The person who I'm assuming is their manager is extremely rude and unhelpful. I came in one morning and the price of my drink rose from about $6 to $8 overnight, and now it's back to $6. They were also completely out of cups for more than one of my visits, which is just ridiculous. This place is run so terribly, which is a shame because it used to be so great! I have unfortunately decided that I will not be coming back, nor will I be recommending this place to any of my friends. There's plenty of shops in the city with better coffee, better service, and better indoor space. My recommendation to the owner/manager, don't let this place become another closed down coffee shop! What used to be a 4-5 star shop is now 2.5 stars at best. read more

Friendly service and good coffee. Alchemy was just down the street from our AirBnB, which was very convenient. The coffee was very good and flavorful. We only got black coffees, but the specialties coffees being poured looked great. We tried their breakfast biscuit sandwich was was very impressed. Very flavorful and the biscuit hit the spot without being too bready. Clean and welcoming interior. read more

I've had this place saved as a "want to go" for so long and am kicking myself for waiting this long to try them out. The service is super friendly and they prepare your drinks at a reasonable pace. I had the vanilla bean shakerato & a butter croissant. The croissant was flakey and warm. The drink had a good flavor to it. I would definitely come back and try the other shakeratos. read more

I stopped by during lunch on a weekday to try to seasonal banana bread latte. By late lunchtime there weren't many pastry options left but they did have an almond croissant which I grabbed. I got the banana bread latte with oat milk, and got my things to go. There were a lot of seats but literally all of them were taken. Service was fine but it was just one person behind the counter taking orders and making everything so I did wait about 5 min which was fine. The banana bread latte had a lot of flavor in the first sip and I enjoyed it, and then kind of lost flavor as I kept drinking it. The almond croissant was realllly delicious though! read more

My first stop visiting Philadelphia and I was disappointed to say the least. The girls at the counter were so rude and rolled their eyes at my friend. $6 for the tiniest coffee I've ever seen. I ordered a cappuccino and was given something else. The building itself boasts "Scandinavian design" but they just painted every surface beige and hung no art on the walls. But the worst part overall was the attitude of the baristas. The coffee tasted fine but once again was not what i ordered. read more

Great local coffee shop in Rittenhouse!! Amazing community aspect - dog wall, see lots of people working/studying here, walking running clubs stop here, pride party, ICE OUT, etc. Few outdoor seating options. Coffee and matcha is good too they have fun syrups like mint, banana bread, strawberry or blueberry, etc. The vanilla they use has real beans! Love seeing the black specks in my latte. I usually get the iced shakerato. Prices are okay. I really don't like that they charge $1 for a milk alternative. I haven't tried the food options yet, I think it's very limited breakfast menu but I want to. Overall, a good local Philly coffee shop to support! read more

Unassuming little shop in a mall that made some of the best espresso I've ever had. (And I'm a former artisan coffee shop owner.) there are bean choices for espresso, not just a blend. The Colombian was balanced and not at all over extracted. Very precise preparation, even weighing the milk. Barista made some of the best latte art I've seen. No real sitting (benches are mostly for waiting) but this should be a daily stop for anyone that lives here. read more

Really cute coffee shop!! Stopped in for some morning coffee and a chocolate croissant and wasn't disappointed. First time visiting was a good experience--friendly service and solid drinks. Second visit was disappointing and frustrating. On a Sunday at 4:49 pm (just over 10 minutes before their 5:00 pm closing time), I went in to order a matcha and a cappuccino. The cashier immediately said they weren't making any coffee drinks because they were closing soon and needed to clean up/prep. I pointed out that it's a coffee shop that closes at 5, and expecting to serve drinks close to closing seems reasonable. She responded rudely with something like, 'If you don't like it, go to Starbucks.' The attitude was unnecessary and unprofessional--especially since we were there well before closing and just wanted two simple drinks. Won't be returning based on this interaction. read more

Coffee was good and the space is nice, but the experience was frictional. Seating felt cramped, and there was no posted notice about early holiday hours. I was asked to leave abruptly despite no signage indicating a change in schedule. Not a deal-breaker, but worth knowing for anyone planning to work here. read more

Let me preface this by saying I didn't have an inherently bad experience; these are just my opinions on the atmosphere and shop as a whole. The interior is small and very simple, to a point it feels almost tacky. The menu is quite small, including food options, and the coffee was alright. It was super busy, so a lot of people seem to like it, but it was nearly impossible to find a seat and it was very loud because everything is so close together. It seems like a business trying to fit into the new, simple design that's chic and aesthetically pleasing, but I personally just don't find that inviting for a cup of coffee. read more

Came here on a Saturday at 12 pm and it was pretty crowded. Their menu at the front did not include include the name of the pastries on display or the prices so I had to ask them to name each one. The employees were kind of rude as well. When it was ready, it was not mixed and I had to get my own lid and put it on. I couldn't even find the straws and it didn't seem like most ppl had straws so I left the store without a straw and an unmixed drink. The vibes just felt pretty hostile and it was crowded read more

Nice, cozy cafe with a modern, simple interior. Great for working and having a nice drink. I've tried the matcha unsweetened which is good. I also really like the vanilla bean latte or cappuccino extra hot and less sweet. The black bean flecks are a nice touch with the rich vanilla flavor. Drinking water is available and bathrooms are clean. Service is good. read more

Nice, clean, and comfortable...but not necessarily my cup of coffee. (See what I did there?) Alchemy is a pretty sharp looking coffee shop. Everything seems to have a perfect angle and the same shade of white & wood stain, from the furniture to the wall art to the cups that they serve the coffee in. That's pretty cool, I cannot lie. And even though it kinda has a bit of a museum aesthetic, you'd think it wouldn't be very comfortable - but it was! I was quite happy sitting there and reading my paper. Where Alchemy falls short, in my opinion, is the lack of privacy. This seems a little weird to suggest since it is a coffee shop with multiple areas for seating and people are constantly in and out, so there isn't really an expectation of privacy. However, I am a little hard of hearing (ask my girlfriend), and I could hear every single word of every conversation that was being had in the shop. It's a little off-putting and distracting. I suppose this is the drawback to a small coffee shop, but there are worse things. Also, the drip coffee wasn't very good, I don't think. It tastes very watered down, but the price was about what you'd expect. I did enjoy my latte, however. Really well made. I'd go back to Alchemy but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

First off! The detail of the place is beautiful but it looks like it's part of a hotel or an office building so just know it's not a coffee shop! The staff was ok, I think that they were just tired because they weren't very friendly but they could've just been tired, I can understand that as a former barista. I tried the ice banana latte with cold foam & it was delicious! Enough to taste the banana but not overpowering to still get that espresso flavor. Definitely coming back to try the matcha next time! read more

Good coffee in a super-stylish setting. They are popular, which means the line can make it feel a bit cramped. I feel like I'm standing over the people sitting at a table--because I am. But they make a good espresso, and the cold brew is some of the best in the city. Their ceramics used for in-house drinks are super-cool. Lots of people lingering and working. There are some outside tables, which I've enjoyed. read more

Cute little coffee shop in center city. I walked into this place expecting it to be crowded. It was empty with only a few fellow work from home individuals. On initial view this place is super white. Everything from tables to furniture is white. The place also has a CBD wellness shop which is interesting. I got my drip coffee from a nice lady up front. It is weird that the creamer and such isn't next to the lids. She left room for milk in my container but the milk is on a different side of the bar compared to the lids for the cup (I'm still confused as to why?!). The coffee is a bit too bitter for my tastes and there isn't much food options available at this coffee shop except for basic pastries and baked goods. read more

Alchemy Coffee is one of the gems that coffee enthusiasts would need to find in trying to enjoy a high-quality and creative coffee. Their baristas are committed and serve carefully-prepared espresso beverages and pour-overs to the best standards. They are carefully selected beans, so each cup sounds bright in flavor notes and has outstanding balance. The place is very casual and friendly to spend time during casual gatherings or even during individual work. The comforting atmosphere is accompanied by amiable, careful staff. The craft-oriented services are well priced. Altogether, the high quality of the beverages provided by Alchemy Coffee and a cozy atmosphere of a coffeehouse make the customers visit it again and again. read more

I came to Alchemy Coffee, which is located near Rittenhouse square, with my sister. I got the fresh mint latte and I really liked it! The mint flavor was strong but not too overpowering, it complimented the espresso rly well. HOWEVER, the iced matcha latte was a huge disappointment. There was not enough matcha so the drink just tasted just plain milk. I went back to the barista to ask for an a little extra matcha but was told I would have to pay for an extra shot of matcha. She was extremely nice about it and I understand the policy. But the amount of matcha in the MATCHA latte is abysmal. So maybe stick to the coffees if you plan to come here. I will say that the interior of the coffee shop is really cute and cozy. However, we were here in the afternoon on a Saturday and it was super busy. All the tables were taken. Most people were doing their work there so we had to sit in a ledge. It also gets pretty noisy so I wouldn't not recommend coming here to do work that you really need to concentrate on/take meetings here. read more

I thought I have been hitting up really great java spots here in Philly but this one, this one here is a winner. The vibe is clean, bright with minimalist decor. It reminded me of the coffee shops in Seoul, Korea. Lots of UPenn students working on their laptops here as well as locals. I love mint and the word Shakerato intrigued me...Fresh Mint Shakerato it is. While I waited for my drink, I looked up what a Shakerato was. It is a chilled espresso drink that is shaken in a tumbler for 15 seconds along with ice cubes and simple syrup. The espresso part becomes frothy. The thick froth floats on top when poured. This is perfect on a hot summer day. It's weird for me to say but this is the most "refreshing" and unique coffee drink I have ever had. It's chilled like a cocktail and gave it a seltzer feel. The frothy part reminded me of an egg cream soda. I LOVED EVERY SIP!! I couldn't help but notice their cool logo. It's a motif of the Adinkra heart symbol for Sankofa. Sankofa is part of the Twi language of Ghana. They used Sankofa Gold House Blend. It's a balanced, robust flavor that pairs very well with any milk options or by itself. Please support this local Black-owned business. Seriously the BEST COFFEE in Philly. Their strong 5 solid stars on Yelp speaks for itself. read more

COME IF YOU WANT A GOOD WORK CAFE!! This is an ideal place as a work cafe. Very modern decorations which just sets you up for a good mood but so many more pluses. My drink came out pretty fast, and it was so good. I got the vanilla shakerato cold brew, which I highly recommend!! I loved how spacious each tables were. There was plenty of space for both my laptop and ipad, which is not that common in a lot of stores!! Another big plus were the outlets on the floor!! You do not have to sit near the wall or eye another human being already sitting there to charge your electronics (: Also, I loved that everyone else was working, and everyone knew to be respectful of each other in terms of sound levels. I loved seeing everyone else grinding which helped me stay focused and continue working as well. Temperature was just right, and wifi was a little slow at times but still good overall. Purchased an Americano coffee. It was decent, warm, and had an ok favor. There are significant limitations with this coffee shop. They only offered one size cups and had a limited amount of artificial sugar sweetener options. The seating arrangement was limited but overall there was a good utilization of the space that was provided to them in this small, quaint location. The atmosphere was lights and simplistic. I could sit here for hours just reading a book or working on my papers while trying different coffees. I look forward to trying other options in the future. read more

I came here on Labor Day Weekend with a friend. We were both looking for a spot to do work that wouldn't be distracting and we found this Black-owned cafe, which was a delight to sit in. SEATING Spacious and great to get some work done. For me, the ideal spot is by the windows with a ledge to put your bag + an outlet to charge your devices. It wasn't hard to find a seat on a holiday weekend afternoon and in the morning, it's even easier. There's also some high top counter space near the back. Not a large space, but it's more than enough. FOOD/DRINKS Got a ham/cheese croissant, which was just okay for the price I paid (5.50). Would not get it again. They also have a range of loose leaf teas around 4.50 and matcha if you're going for a coffee alternative. They serve Elixr Coffee, so if you're a fan of that, this is the place for you. AESTHETIC is clean and minimalist. The light wood and white produces a calming environment for me. SERVICE is fast and friendly.
