I've had tiger sugar before at another location so I know any brown sugar drink from here is going to be sweet. This time around, I ordered with less sugar and it was still a bit too sweet for my liking but bearable. Boba was soft and chewy and I love that they don't charge extra for lactose-free milk or milk alternatives! There was also a deal on their kiosk where you could get a free golden oolong tea if you ordered $10+ so I ordered my brown sugar boba milk and 2 cream puffs. I gave those to my friend so I can't speak to those. I took a point off for the girl behind the counter. She seemed like she hated her job. I went up to her when I got a text saying my order was ready. I stood at the counter waiting for her to look at me but she just kept doing her thing and pretty much ignored my existence. I showed her my phone telling her my ordering number and she just stood there without a smile. I saw the order on the counter so I just took it. The boba itself is decent. Tiger Sugar is generally on the much sweeter side for boba so have to pick low sugar or it feels excessively sweet. I went during CNY so it was very crowded with a long wait after ordering. There isn't really much seating in the store so everyone was just crowding around waiting for their drink. I first tried Tiger Sugar during a pickup event and I fell in love with their bevvies. I like the fact that you can adjust the sweetness level, as I am not one who regularly enjoys overly sweet drinks or desserts. They don't have much space but they did manage to set up ample temporary seating, but be prepared to have a booty in your face, or someone in your personal space. If you're like you, you'll probably just order and leave. I ordered at the kiosk and waited. My order took about five minutes before it was ready. The guy at the counter wasn't very friendly. I ordered four drinks and he called out my number and just left them on the counter. I had to ask for a bag. I'm not sure how many arms he thought I had but I'm used to either being given a bag or asked if I would like one. He seemed annoyed that I asked for a bag. It was a weird encounter, but nevertheless, my family and I enjoyed the drinks. I went with the brown sugar matcha latte with boba and cream mousse, and my son got the brown sugar boba and pearl with tiger jelly and cream mousse. I got their brown sugar boba and pearl coffee latte for hubbs because he loves iced coffee, and I got my Little their boba with chocolate chips, which she liked. This was my first time trying Tiger Sugar, though I've known about it for a few years. Since they're known for their brown sugar drinks, I decided to try the one with tapioca pearls, coffee jelly, and foam on top. I got 30 percent sugar and thought it was the perfect sweetness level. I'm not a big caffeine consumer and have usually found boba teas to be a little too strong and not sweet enough for my taste but absolutely LOVED my tea here!! The drink is smooth, just sweet enough with plenty of texture coming from the boba and the tiger jelly. The boba is perfectly chewy but I found the jelly to be mostly flavorless. Just got off the Amtrak and got to New York and I needed boba so we checked in to our hotel and headed toward tiger sugar since they don't have those down in MD. We came in and it was pretty full and it's a pretty small shop but the service was done via tablet so there was no waiting to order. The order came out pretty quick and I gotta say it was pretty good. I am not a regular bubble tea drinker but it's always fun for an occasional treat. This chain is known for adding fresh cream to their drinks for a decadent upgrade. Today, I tried their signature brown sugar milk tea with boba, pearl, and cream mousse. The drink was a true dessert. The tea was rich and creamy. I was worried it would be too sweet, but it was pleasantly balanced. The mousse was very thick. It didn't mix in too well with the drink but did give it a cloud-like texture. Overall, I really enjoyed it. However, I would recommend asking for light ice or no ice as it is hard to get to the tapioca balls at the bottom of the drink when your straw is dodging ice cubes. Also, because of the thickness, a lot of the tea clings to the sides of the cup so you can't enjoy every last drop of yumminess unless you use a spoon. This shop is very small. They don't have seating but they do have ledges against the walls where you can stand and drink. A large stuffed tiger on one such ledge adds some on-brand decor. This is one of my favorite boba places in the city! I love getting their signature black sugar milk series drink because I personally think that they do their brown sugar bobas really well. This time, however, I decided to switch it up and try the Matcha Black Sugar Boba Milk drink. This drink is quite different and it has a pretty strong tea taste to it. I scoured the menu but still ended up selecting the signature drink--brown sugar boba milk + foam--for the Yelp Elite event I participated in. This experience doesn't really make me want to come back for a drink. First off, the paper straw was practically useless. As someone who enjoy searching for and conquering every single tapioca ball in my drink, the end of the paper straw had softened by the time all the liquid was gone, but some balls were left. I had to swap in the reusable straw (that I didn't even get to wash). Additionally, I finished the drink within 2 minutes. I didn't really expect to like this so much, but this place essentially makes a really great drinkable dessert. To be honest all bubble tea places feel kind of the same to me unless they're really bad. I didn't expect much different from Tiger Sugar but I stopped by since I was in the area and had some time. Ordering is done online or using the tablet in store. Again, basically all the drink options sounded the same to me so I just picked one from their popular list... I ordered the black sugar milk with boba, pudding, and cream mousse. It looked very pretty with "stripes" from the sugar/syrup. Less exciting appearance after shaking the cup and mixing the ingredients, but it actually tasted really good. I normally don't get toppings because the tastes/textures don't always mesh well with the drink but I actually loved the pudding and boba together. Wow! This place is amazing. The storefront is very subtle so it's not as easy to find. As is the case with most places, there is no social distancing. Just be safe by wearing your mask(s) and using sanitizer. There is an electronic thermometer available oh, but they do not mandate using it nor request vaccination cards. Most people seemed to be getting their drinks to go so not too crowded. I used the computer to place my order, seamless process. The drinks were a decent price, came out to about $12,for the two drinks. They do accept credit cards which is always a plus! [NYC BOBA TOUR STOP #21] Insane because I once waited on line at the Flushing Tiger Sugar for over 2 hours for one of these drinks, but at this storefront I was able to order these six drinks on their handy ordering screen and collected my drinks all in less than 10 minutes. I'm super pleased with the service, ease of ordering, and their lactaid milk option. Tiger Sugar is a brown sugar specialist, but we tried to get a variety of drinks and ended up with: Fresh Taro + Boba + Taro Pudding Milk with Cream Mousse (4/5), Brown Sugar Mochi + Boba with Cream Mousse (2.5/5), Black Sugar Lemon Oolong Tea (3.5/5), Brown Sugar Matcha Latte with Cream Mousse (4/5), Brown Sugar Chocolate Malt Milk with Boba + Pearl + Cream Mousse (3.5/5) The boba here is very similar in texture to Xing Fu Tang's. When we went there, I described the boba as "soft in a weird way," and I'd agree with that sentiment- they're really missing the Chew Factor. When you bite into them, they slice pretty cleanly in half and then they have this way of dissolving on your tongue. I do like that they give you a mix of both mini pearls and regular sized boba though! It switches up the textures and keeps the drink fun & funky & fresh. And even though the chew factor is lost, the boba has really good brown sugar flavor. Quick comments on each of our drinks: the fresh taro was good but very sweet, the brown sugar chocolate malt milk was very much just glorified chocolate milk, the brown sugar mochi was strange because of the way the mochi was sucked up the straw, and the lemon in the lemon oolong tea was overpowering. Our drinks were a bit inconsistent this time around because we wanted to try some new ones here, but we rounded our 3.5/5 up to 4 because the classic brown sugar milk is real good if you're a brown sugar person. There was a line out the door past noon (on Saturday), but it moved quickly and took less than 10 minutes to get my drink. I realized once I got inside closer to the cashier that there were 2 lines--a kiosk for credit card payment and a counter for cash payment. Everyone was paying credit card, so if you have cash, you could order and get your drink more quickly. They also take online orders, which would be even faster. I ordered their signature drink: the Black Sugar Milk with Boba, Pearl & Cream Mousse ($5.51+). It was delicious and I loved the creaminess. The boba was chewy and tasty, although there was a bunch of little boba. I would have preferred to just have regular sized boba. Also, with these Black Sugar Milk series, you don't have the option to adjust the amount of sugar or ice. The ice took up nearly 1/3 of the cup, so the actual amount of drink wasn't as much as it seemed--which may be good for portion control. You can order and wait outside though. This was hands down the worst version of the drink we've ever had. The boba itself was completely mushy and not good (not the chewy texture I look for). Then the drink was completely bland. It's very Instagrammable, but it's definitely made to look pretty and not to taste good. I always go to Boba Guys, but came here since they closed in NYC. This is on a busy Canal street between Mott and Mulberry! This is my first time at Tiger Sugar in the City. The first time I had it was at an opening in Ellicott City, Maryland. The interior is small and not for sit down. You have two options to order either at the kiosk or in person if you're paying cash. Unlike other bubble tea places, they don't really allow for changes in sugar and ice level. I usually like mine 25-50% sweet. But to my surprise, I didn't find it unbearably sweet.
