We tried this for the first time and were very very disappointed - the food was pretty terrible. The cheese in the quesadilla was described as "cafeteria cheese" by the person eating it. The steak strips were tough - some too tough to eat. The carne guisada was ok, not terrible, but the tortillas were uninspiring and the rice overcooked. We came in thinking that there were some great specials for Thursday night, only to find out the post I had seen was a fake. Our server took pity on us and gave us the discounted price on my margarita!. We arrived about 5:40 and were about the only customers. The chips were good and the salsa (love the individual bowls!) had just enough bite. Hubby had the chicken fajitas and says they were very good. It came with nice sized sides of rice and beans. I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas with rice and they were REALLY good- the sauce had great taste and the rice was fluffy and flavorful. It's really a shame that people have spoken poorly about this place. I have a basic order that I order to try a Mexican food restaurant for the first time, bean & cheese burrito (to test the quality of their beans) a crunchy taco and chips and salsa. The beans are made from scratch, super important! The taco was absolutely perfect, the chips are fresh and the salsa is delicious with the perfect amount of flavor and spice level. Today was very crowded and busy due to some video taping, but the wonderful wait crew (lots of family) accommodated our table of 14 without a hitch. Never had bad food here, although one time the red sauce on cheese enchiladas was a puddle of grease. The margarita mix is sometimes inconsistent on what they charge you, for example every time I go the "large" margarita is in a different cup. Check out my other pic of keto stuffed avocados and the margarita glass was the old school shape. I love schooner margs or I suppose pint glasses. Salsa is amazing here, but service is usually slow, they had 2 waitresses for the entire place last time I went on a weekend. Drink refills will be slow, my friend was charged the same price for a frozen margarita in a tiny clear solo cup as me getting a bigger one on the rocks in a fancy glass. They host Lotería on Saturday nights now. This place is in an old house so the ambience is a house with wooden tables in a converted living room or something, plenty of space on their new patio / deck out front and on the side of the building too! Saturday afternoon with the fam and it's National Margarita Day--we need margaritas! Instead of choosing one of the many big, well-known Tex-Mex restaurants, we decided to try Tia's for a first time visit. The restaurant is located in the childhood home of the owner, Linda C across the street from Cowtown Brewery. There's a cute dining area adjacent to the front door. As you enter, to the left there's a bar area with high top tables and chairs. The main dining area feels like you're in Linda's home--comfortable and relaxing. The wait staff are very friendly and attentive. As a matter of fact, Linda was our server for the day. I had the chicken enchiladas verde with the fixings and a cold Modelo. Wife and daughter both had salads--one steak and one chicken. My enchiladas were delicious--just enough cheese and sauce. Cooked to perfection. The salads were described as very good. As a special treat, Linda graciously spoke with us about her family--many that work there with her as well as her memories of growing up in the neighborhood. We really enjoyed her stories as she made us feel like one of the family. We are definitely coming back to enjoy the food and great fellowship! Was skeptical at first, but the delicious food, friendly staff, and cozy atmosphere did not disappoint!! Came here on Valentine's Day and met some friends for dinner as we were visiting from Houston. I believe that Houston has the best Tex-Mex, which I love, so I was skeptical about the food. I ordered the steak quesadillas and they were VERY good! Steak was marinated perfectly! Husband ordered chicken quesadillas and he loved them (and he's picky about chicken). Friends ordered steak fajitas and chicken mole enchiladas. They loved it as well. The salsa with the chips was homemade and awesome, and the queso blanco was perfect! To top it off, they gave us a free heart shaped piece of red velvet cake for Valentine's Day. We stopped to get gas nearby on our way out of town and found this place on Yelp, only a couple blocks away. We were a little hesitant at first since it was 11:30 am on a Friday and there was no one there. But we took a chance, and WOW, did it pay off! The place was spotless, well kept, and very comfortable. The sweetest server named Patricia, took care of us and quickly took our order and brought our drinks. Shortly after, she brought out some great chips and fresh salsa. A couple minutes later, they brought out a "sampler" with some outstanding Carne Asada, Chicken Mole, potato salad, and refried beans. Did I say "WOW!!!"? This was some of the best of each I've ever had. I had ordered the cheese and beef enchiladas, which were also outstanding. My coworkers all said their food was excellent as well. Before I was done, I asked for some corn tortillas to sop up all remaining deliciousness. Patricia brought them out hot and fresh with a dish of butter and salt. Tia came out of the kitchen and visited with us, and as she said, everything is fresh made and made with love. You could taste it in every bite. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my husband ordered the fajita taco plate. We also each ordered a margarita on ice but were brought out frozen margaritas on accident. We decided, "what the heck" and tried them. They were pretty good, but we opted to order the margaritas on ice (again) the second time around. How do I say this... they were SO SO short on help. I felt bad for them. Food was good but the service was definitely reflective of the help they need there. I'll leave out the details but I felt bad for the older staff (older cook in the kitchen, volunteer friend who came in just to help out, server that appeared to forget things bc she was pretty old...). You don't have to be young, but they weren't quick or with it. I felt bad. Some in my party liked the food. So, I'll give more stars b/c honestly, I felt bad for them. I heard and read a lot of good things about Tia's so we decided to check it out. Tia's looked like a smaller version JTG but less crowd and accepts cash. We ordered the Queso Blanco(QB) Supreme which is QB topped with beef, guacamole, pico, and sour cream. I thought it was awesome and very creamy. Something I would order again. We also ordered the Beef Fajitas which come with all the fixing. It came out fresh and tortilla were piping hot. I really thought it was just ok and nothing to write home about. I wasn't impressed but it made me full and contented but it's probably something I won't order on another visit. Though the beef have a nice flavor to it, it wasn't as tender as I expect it to be. I was expecting more based on their 4 stars and from what I heard. The service was phenomenal. Friendly, attentive, and just pleasant. There's really nothing to complain about. Tia's has been on my radar for quite a while and I've been wanting to give the restaurant a try. So many of my fellow Yelp Friends have told me that I MUST dine at Tia's. I finally did and it was delicious. My wife and I arrived shortly after the main lunch rush so the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We were seated immediately. Hot chips and salsa were brought to our table and our drink order was taken. Since we were headed right home, we splurged on a couple of frozen margaritas. Yummy! We also ordered a small bowl of queso blanco. The salsa with the chips has just enough bite to make it interesting. The queso blanco was some of the best we've ever had! It was perfectly spiced with green chiles and velvety smooth. Our lunch entrees were both so delicious. My wife had the ground beef taco platter with rice and beans. I ordered the flauta platter also with rice and beans. My wife said her tacos were very good but the meat was a bit under-seasoned. My flautas were fantastic, fried to perfection.
