This is apparently as good as it gets around Quincy IL in terms of breakfast. The service is always good. I've had the corned beef hash- think mini chunks of corned beef, with potatoes and 2 poached eggs. The only thing missing was cabbage it seems. The English Muffin is also delicious, especially with their fruit marmalade. The boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy- also very good. Order it with the additional eggs! The peach ice tea is also very good- I believe it's in season now. I deducted one star because we came here for lunch the day prior. I had the light fish with parmesan chips. I'm not sure if it was the fish but something in that meal upset my stomach for the rest of the afternoon. I won't hold it against them though. My colleague and I went there after work for breakfast on a whim, and were blown away by the excellent service and superb food. The food was so good that I asked for another serving of the same meal, just so that I could take it home for a later lunch. First time there, and believe me, it won't be the last. My colleague has already been there three more times since then, and says she cannot get enough of it. Throughout our meal, all we could do was exclaim how scrumptious the food was. The service was excellent and fun, which made the entire experience all the more enjoyable. Updating my review, to be more precise, it is very important to note that the food here is prepared by farm produce garnered from local farmers and gardens, and even their meats like their corned beef in the hash and the bacon, are actually cured here in the kitchen. Even the orange juice here is freshly squeezed and not of the frozen concentrated kind that many restaurants resort to using. It's thick, and not at all brightly and artificially colored. I had the utmost pleasure of trying their splendid cherry jam today, and I couldn't have asked for a better preserve on my English muffin. I LOVE to eat here! I come up from StL for work every 2weeks, and I plan my whole trip around eating here :-) the food is beyond wonderful. The flavors are interesting and artistic, without being "scary" for the timid. Everything on their menu is comfort food with a beautiful twist. Thyme Square cafe is absolute perfection! The only flaw is that I can come up with is that I can not box them up and take them back to StL and St Peters with me.. If I didn't have to give a star to write a review, I certainly would not. Quincy seems to love this place and every time I visit town it is everyone's number one on the list for breakfast. I will NEVER understand it. I have been a handful of times and it is always a lackluster experience. The service is subpar, the food is mediocre and quite frankly these are generous statements. This particular time was by far the worst out of my less than pleasant visits to this erroneous establishment. The service dropped from subpar to beastly when we waited on our food for over an hour and then were questioned when we expressed our dislike for the offensive cold mush we were expected to eat. The hostess actually came over to our table to 'check' our food as if we would make a random excuse to leave a plate full of food for no good reason. She actually took it so far as to feel the temperature. Mind you, we only took one bite before deciding not to waste our appetite on whatever had landed on our plates. Taking it to the next level and officially making it the most horrendous service experience I've had, she chased us out of the restaurant, demanding that we pay for our coffee drinks. Yes, this is real. I could not make this up if I tried. This 'restaurant' would absolutely never make it in a bigger city. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time or your patience on this place. We ended up at Coachhouse which was a great experience with fantastic service!! We had to eat lunch since we wasted or breakfast hours at Thyme Square but, that was ok because it was delicious and worth the wait! read more

I always enjoy a meal at Thyme Square -- though I admit I miss the old location on the square. It was always crowded and noisy, but it was charming. The old Busy Bee Store is a charming place, too. The food is always fresh here. The breads are incredible. One of the best things that can happen to you is for your choice not to be on the menu -- then you get to experience something new. Cory is a died-in-the-wool chef. I think he would quit before he served something he didn't think was absolutely delicious and prepared to the best of his ability. This is the kind of place that big city folk think you have to live in the big city to get. Next time your kinfolk from New York, L.A., or New Orleans come to visit and are talking down to you for living in a culinary desert, bring them here. That will shut them up. read more

Let me start off by saying, I wish I could give this place a higher rating. I ate here a few weeks ago for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated upon arrival but it took nearly 15 minutes for a waitress to take our drink order. Food came out in a decent time and was absolutely delicious. I loved my short rib sandwich and potato salad, the flavors were excellent. Drink service was also very slow and I had to repeatedly ask for refills and then my silverware. I like the atmosphere and menu but the service definitely needs some work. I will try again (maybe it was a fluke) but I'm wary of bad service. read more

We were visiting Hannibal MO over the weekend and stayed in Quincy IL. I always like to check out Yelp for restaurants, things to do etc. when out on vacation. What a hidden gem. Seriously amazing food crafted with care and love. I'd do almost anything for the recipe for sweet potato soup. You could tell that everything they could handmake, they did. We detoured here on our way to St. Louis, not knowing what to expect, and were so thrilled we came a second time on our way home. The farm to table unique breakfast dishes truly are one of a kind. The presentation and taste are both excellent! The service was excellent! I love this place. They have innovative specials made from great produce that was grown on local farms. I have enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich with butternut squash soup. The soup was flavorful and the perfect amount. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and opted for fruit salad instead of their house made Parmesan chips. The fruit salad was a great mix of fruit with lots of raspberry and peaches....not your typical melon with 3 berries fruit salad. Thyme Square does everything right, every time. They have a large, but carefully-selected menu for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. They have lots of tables, but not so many that you feel like you're in a cavern. They're located on the town square, and the large windows let in lots of locally-sourced light, complimenting the locally-sourced menu items. They have excellent service! You'll be in and out in 30 minutes if that's your goal. Or you can stay and sip on another glass of the homemade flavored iced tea. Free wifi and an outdoor patio round out the experience. I'm in Quincy at least once a month for work, and I always look forward to eating here. read more
