The service is friendly, but depending on how busy they are - occasionally the service can be slow. It was like the fries were deep fried then put in the refrigerator then taken back out and deep fried again thats how the fries tasted. When the waitress asked how things were I just politely nodded and asked for a togo box, no way I could consume this, rather feed it to my pets at home. I just had a marvelous take-out experience! Stopped at Down Home, dashed in, and placed a quick order! Was promptly met by a pleasant and helpful member of staff! Paid for my order, ran an errand and found my order within seconds of being ready to go! The double cheeseburger was made with large handmade patties and the French fries were brown and crisp! This little joint has a lot going for it! They have just about the only weekend breakfast buffet in Quincy; tried it and it's not half bad! They have a huge dining room that's nicely furnished. You can dine in, carry out, or deliver via DoorDash. They offer Brooklyn Calzones through the DoorDash app and they are not to be missed! This place is a sleeper. I had no expectations. I was amazed at the friendliness of the staff. That however that pales in comparison to the food. A table of 8 and, we all got different items. I was blown away with hand prepared items on each plate. No frozen/reheated things. You can taste the time and care in every dish. My whole party agreed. This place has always been slow. Today was the greatest!! We got there at 6 and at 8:30 we left because our food had not been delivered. The food is mediocre at best, based on other visits. Last night was the first time we tried this establishment. The staff was very nice and friendly but that is where it begins and ends. This place was crudely remodeled in a very old building. The atmosphere was dark inside and minimally clean. The quesadilla we ordered had a burnt appearance when they brought it and tasted burnt also. We also ordered a thin crust pizza and the collar on the pizza was like eating a crisp cracker. The food was ok at best. it just wasn't what we expected so probably won't be back. Last night we stopped in for a quick bite. This is the forth or fifth time we have been there for dinner, as well as 3-4 times for lunch with large groups and a few times for breakfast on the weekends. Our food has always been hot fresh and delicious. I've never been when it's been particularly busy. Each time our wait staff has been attentive and timely. If we lived closer I'm sure we'd visit more often. I'm extremely impressed the owners were able to make an old bowling alley turned dive bar into a homey looking space. read more
