I've been coming to Thundercloud's for as long as I can remember and if it was considered socially acceptable I would rub the Thundersauce all over my body and...well...use your imagination. My go to sandwich is a large regular club on white with lettuce, onions, bacon, turkey, provolone, salt/pepper, and thundersauce (a scrumptious mix of oil, vinegar and paprika). When asked how much thundersauce I want I say, "As much as you'd like to put on there." Once a clerk literally spread half a squeeze bottle on my sammich and glory was made that day. As Thunderclouds go, most of know have a pretty good idea of what we're gonna get: casual staff serving up various sizes of elongated sandwiches. Apparently the previous location was a little on the small side, as these guys have moved into more expansive corner digs a few doors down. And it's not a small upgrade in size: the corner store is easily three or four times the size of the other one, and the clean lines throughout make it feel open, almost breezy. There's tons of extra seating, and when I sat down and began to work over my giant foot-long turkey on wheat sandwich of joy, I had plenty of space to stretch out. Oh, Thundercloud Subs -- I admit, I do enjoy some of your sandwiches, they can be quite tasty. However, I must express my major disappointment -- why oh why must you charge me extra to add olives and pickles. Yes, perhaps I am slightly different bc I am 26 years old and I still refuse to put tomatoes and onions on my sandwiches, BUT look at the money you save from me on that! :) Ok, so I don't know about the actual costs, but from my limited knowledge of olives, they do not seem to be that expensive. I ordered a turkey sandwich for lunch today and went to pick it up i got back to work and when I opened the package it was the wrong order so i called and spoke to Rachel she was very nice and helpful she was able to remake my sandwich and even brought it to me. I have never had that good of customer service from any place especially when they made a mistake . The quality has gone way down and the store is not always clean anymore. I used to think they cared about their customers, but not so much anymore. I used to go here frequently, but that is going to change. This location is just a few doors down from my office, I'm here all the time, and the children that run this place always look like they're about to end it when they talk to me, and then turn around and act like life is bluebirds and unicorns with their co-workers. If you do not know about them you should go and if you do then you know they are consistent. I have never had a complaint at any location. This location does seem to get really busy and the staff isn't the fastest group in the world but they are friendly and they get my order right. I like Thundercloud. It rotates as one of my favorite sandwich places in the city. It's easy -- there are lots of locations all around town (this one being closest to my house). It's fairly cheap (but man, sandwiches in general seem to be getting more expensive all the time!). And it is fresh and tasty. And served with that trademark Austin attitude. (YMMV depending on location.) While my favorite fast food sandwich shop varies from month to month, my favorite sandwich at each usually remains the same. At Thundercloud, my go to is the roast beef and avocado on wheat. I think the sign said (or said once) that it is "surprisingly delicious." I never understood the surprising part. Excuse me while I sort of quote Joey from Friends, but "What's not to like? Roast beef? Goooooood. Avocado? Gooooooood." Mmmmmmm... Another thing that actually is surprisingly delicious (emphasis here on surprising) is the Nada Chicken sandwich. It's really just morningstar chik'n patties heated up, but they are good! Surprisingly! And I'm not usually into soy protein stuff. But it does...it tastes like chicken! The one thing that drives me crazy about Thundercloud is how they nickel and dime you (literally!) for extras on your sandwich. I have no problem paying for extra meat or extra cheese, but ten cents to add PICKLES to your sandwich?? Wha??? Come on, Thundercloud...give me a break! read more

Food always taste fresh and great service!

This particular Thundercloud is my favorite. Not just because it's a couple of miles from my home, but because they make the best sandwiches. I usually get a turkey w cheese. Nothing fancy. But for me, I like extra thunder sauce. And they deliver. Heavy handed just like I like it. Fair warning, if you are a piggy for the thunder sauce like myself, you really have to eat it in the store. 5 minutes sitting in its delicious juices will turn the bread into soggy mush. The staff is nice, they happily put up with my family when we were a group of 7 people arguing about splitting sandwiches and being indecisive about what to get. read more

This was my 1st time getting food from Thundercloud and I will NEVER be back. I placed my order online and picked it up. When I got home I realized my sandwich had been made incorrectly. I called the store to let them know. However, the gentleman I spoke to on the phone was not very helpful. I sent my husband back to the store with a printout of what I had ordered. When he got home, my second sandwich was made incorrectly. At this point, it's not worth going back. I decided to eat the sandwich as is. I try something differnet everytime I go because there's just so many amazing subs on the menu. My favorites are: The Club and the N.Y. Italian. The Club has turkey, ham, bacon and cheese on it. I also get it with sprouts because, well, I have an addiction to sprouts. The N.Y. Italian has ham, salami, capicola, cheese, sweet bell peppers and oregano. Just typing this makes me realize I have not eaten lunch yet and now I really want a Thundercloud sub. They have gluten free bread and only for a 1.70 upcharge. I always get the veggie delight and now have added banana peppers to my sandwhiches to try something new. I know.. Such a dare devil! I've eaten here a couple of times last week. My first time here Emily, helped me out. the customer service was excellent. She filled me in on what Thunderclouds was all about, since it was my first time here. I ended up getting the roast beef with avocado special and the pastrami sandwich. The aforementioned sandwich was for my wife. I got my orders to go. My wife did filll me in that her sandwich was delicious and tasted very fresh. My hot pastrami sandwich came with mustard and provolone cheese. I got mayonnaise and lettuce on the side. I highly recommend this sandwich. I came back a couple of days later and got it again and Gregg took excellent care of me. Great service and great tasting sandwiches and the prices are reasonably also. Great sandwiches--always friendly staff, I've never had any issues here. The hot pepper relish is a must for any solid sandwich, though I don't find it terribly spicy. I'm a NY Italian type of guy on wheat--so that's what I usually get. The only downside to this location is the parking, especially during the lunch rush hour. The parking lot (which is shared across the shopping center) pretty much has the smallest spaces in Austin and is always constantly full. Anyone who lived in Austin back in the day must roll they're eyes at this place... way back when Thundercloud started it was really amazing, now it's a half assed overpriced Subway and not even that good. The Ft long was like a half Subway size. And seriously they only offer lettuce, and tomatoes for free, seriously! Then everything else is just pay for ad-ons, olives and pickles, are you serious your charging me for that! So back to the olden days the bread was organic it was the size of Subways, and all the ingredients were organic, the guy told me that ingredients aren't organic any longer. I'm a vegetarian they used to offer seitan, vegi burgers and other cool vegetarian options, now all they have is a fake chicken. Don't bother it's heyday is over, and now it's just a huge rip off. The sandwhiches are good not great but I am rating it two stars because of the "indo-hippie occupy movement" scene that the ownership there thinks is okay for their employees to display. I guess I am just a little tired of 28 year bearded dudes serving sandwhiches with a bad attitude, and then expecting me to leave them some money in their tip jar for the privelege of witnessing underachievement in action. No, "thanks for coming in" or "enjoy your sandwhich" or "is there anything else I can do?" I have heard a lot of folks rave about Thundercloud and decided to finally try it. I'm not a fan of Subway, so I was a little hesitant. I had a California club which has guacamole on it. I'm pretty much a fan of everything with guacamole so the sandwich was good. This location has too many tip jars for me. When I ordered I put a buck in the cashier's tip jar, but then the guys that made the sandwich had another tip jar and kinda looked at me when I didn't put a buck in their jar. I'm just not gonna tip 2 bucks for a small sandwich. Maybe I'm cheap. If I was over here I may stop in again, but I just don't get that excited about sandwiches. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER. I ordered a nada chicken sandwich, no cheese, no mayo. So blatantly obvious it's a vegetarian sandwich. Dude making my sandwich prepares another full of meat sandwich and then immediately starts touching all the veggies on mine. I complain, he looks confused. A girl next to him (not the manager) inserts herself, rolls eyes, informs me I need to tell them first if it's a vegetarian sandwich (???), then says "It's not a big deal." Manager makes an appearance, asks what's going on, we all inform her and rude girl keeps rolling her eyes. Dude removes my veggies, washes his hands and finishes. Manager comes to take our money, we let her know that we're unhappy with rude girl's comment, manager says "I'm sorry if you were offended." NOT AN APOLOGY. Without missing a beat, rude girl walks by and proclaims "Meat is flying all around here!" We look at dude in total shock, dude looks totally mortified, manager turns around to give us our receipt. We tell her that rude girl strikes again. She says "I'm really sorry." Rude girl is never redirected, never acknowledges her assholeness. We come here all of the time and rude girl is always here. The place I frequent the most for a great, healthy sandwich! The wheat bread is the best in town in my opinion, and the veggies are always fresh looking and tasting.
