The Turkish Delight sub in a bowl isn't fancy or gourmet, but it scores high in healthiness and tastiness! This sub is the Veggie Delight, which tells you that lots of veggies are involved, plus turkey. The abundance of veggies include avocado, sprouts, mushrooms, olives, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes (ok, that's a fruit). You can top it off with hummus or cream cheese. I always choose hummus (who would choose cream cheese?) Add Turkey and a choice of cheese and it's very filling for lunch or dinner. And the thunder sauce is a perfect compliment. Corey at this location is a true sub-in-a-bowl artist! He served the salad after painstakingly arranging the ingredients in a way pleasing to the eye...and taste buds! Whenever I drive down William cannon I always see thundercloud sub on the side. I've always been curious and today I decided to go try it out. I got the big Paul on wheat. It was amazing! The meats went well with the bread and the spicy mustard and Mayo gave a great flavor. The only thing I would adjust is the olives, I am a fan of olives but I felt like it didn't go well for me in the sandwich. The club was also good too. The manager at this location was SO nice to accommodate a last minute catering order this week. I gave them just a 2 1/2 notice. We had 22 amazing boxed lunches with various chips and cookies. I like how the experience of ordering a sub is so personalized here. Definitely take a few minutes longer, but you feel the tip is actually being earned, and it's nice to know the sandwich is being made to perfection then and there. We go here often we get 2 large New York Italian with sweet peppers and everything lettuce tomato provolone cheese and office favorite egg salad with bacon cheese and lettuce and tomato. I used to go to the original location long ago, when it was routine to grab a bite and sit out on the lawn of the State Capitol building and chat and talk smack with legislators about music and not politics while eating. One Governor used to be ordering on occasion and then sit out on the lawn. This was a magic time. Then I left Austin for several years and other locations had popped up. I did not return to Thundercloud as I did not want to wipe away that old memory. However, I finally decided to give one in our area a try and not take into consideration the original location nor nostalgia. This location was still seeming old school, and so I decided to just say that this was my first Thundercloud. Several employees dropped by to say hi as they were going past where I was standing while I was waiting. I really was surprised in this day and age that kind of courtesy. The meat is sliced daily, and the vegetables looked and tasted fresh as I had walked in just as it opened. I enjoyed the sandwich and it is definitely a place where I would stop by again (which I have done). Of note; the people were wearing beard and hair nets. The best part is the friendly people working there and an Austin laid back environment. Ask for recommendations and they will gladly give you what looks the best that day and what they would order. I come here all the time. I made the order online, there's only an option for a whole pickle and pickle spears on their website which eventually stopped functioning correctly. I picked a whole pickle because I wanted an entire pickle cut in spears. I left fairly specific instructions in the notes. When I opened my bag however I found this pathetic little pickle that looks bitten off. Thundercloud might be my favorite sandwich shop .... that Austin Club is pretty amazing! This location is convenient and easy to get in and out of. The employees are always nice too! Now the Austin Club is smoked chicken breast with avocado and bacon. I also get a mayo and mustard combo and say yes to pepper, salt and thunder sauce. All these things just make even better! I like both of their bread options as well. The avocado and the bacon with all the condiments and veggies just makes this sandwich so perfect! I have also had their cookies and they are delicious! My friend regularly gets their salads here and she says they are delicious too. I really do not know how someone could not be a fan of Thundercloud ... From what I understand, they've been around since the 70's, so certainly Thundercloud has become an appealing option for some people. Not being an Austin native, however, my experience hasn't been filtered through a "nostalgic lens"... so I feel my review is properly unbiased. I just don't get it. The difference between the small and large is quite miniscule (both are very small) ... the meat (in this case, turkey) looked like the pressed type that one would typically avoid at the deli...and the final product was basic and pedestrian. It literally looked and felt like something I'd pick up in the gas station when no other options are available (albeit fancier wrapping, probably fresher but at several times the price) The decor was warm and modern and the employees were predictably Austin hip, but I really just don't get it. I don't write this review with any sort of malicious intent...hey, good for Thundercloud for being in business so long with devoted customers...it's just that when I leave an eating establishment, I want to feel as if I got my money's worth...at Thundercloud, I did not. I've been coming to Thundercloud's for as long as I can remember and if it was considered socially acceptable I would rub the Thundersauce all over my body and...well...use your imagination. My go to sandwich is a large regular club on white with lettuce, onions, bacon, turkey, provolone, salt/pepper, and thundersauce (a scrumptious mix of oil, vinegar and paprika). When asked how much thundersauce I want I say, "As much as you'd like to put on there." Once a clerk literally spread half a squeeze bottle on my sammich and glory was made that day. Thunderclouds has lost a loyal client of the last 20 years. Being that this is the location I most commonly visit, I can't express how disappointed I am in how the overall quality of my experience. From the food, to the cleanliness of the restaurant, I am always amazed about what I encounter next when visiting this location. Let's first begin by stating that the bread is NOT baked daily as mentioned on the radio, the veggies have really gone down in quality (lettuce is a joke and taste disgusting and soggy tomatoes to list a few) and staff isn't as friendly as it once was. To be fair, I have visited other thunderclouds around the area and just feel that the overall quality of the company has tanked.
