Love this place!! I couldn't tell you if the employees were the owners or not. They sure treated my friend and I like they were. I ordered the blueberry coffee. It was good, but I do not like the salty taste in my coffee, so had I known I would have ordered something different. They didn't have any more of the wood pieces for making a wish, so they went searching for something and found some smaller pieces so we could join in on the fun. They had 80's retro music playing and somehow we all winded up playing "guess the song/artist". It was fun! I always buy coffee for my mom on my travels, so had to get some here. She loves it, so only saves it for special occassions. Will make it a point to revisit here when I come back and try something non-salty. read more

PROS: Best dirty chai I've ever had. It's gingery and spicy, a really unique flavor compared to every other chai I've tried. It doesn't taste like a generic syrup flavoring like many coffee shops. The shop is also very cute, with scores of little pieces of wood hanging from the ceiling, where customers have written their wishes. :) CONS: A little pricy; the cups are smaller than other shops (a small is only 8 ounces instead of 12 ounces). My dad got their Belgian mocha and said it tasted like hot chocolate - he couldn't taste much coffee. Thump is definitely worth checking out for some delicious drinks - especially the chai - but probably not somewhere you want to frequent daily just because of the price and smaller sizes. read more

For some, they could careless about giving up personal information to get a receipt, however, I find that ridiculous. I know, I know, they are saving on paper. Give me a break with that already, its not about saving paper or trees, its about saving money but they won't tell you that!! Went to this location because there's always buzz about it around town. Ordered a vanilla latte and a ham and cheese crescent. The latte, although aesthetically pleasing, tasted like syrup and the crescent was served cold. I figured that if the option to have it toasted was available it would've been offered to me. Came here twice during my week in Bend. The first time was great. The atmosphere is really cool, the coffee is good the service is hit and miss... The first guy that helped me was really great in getting me exactly what i wanted (one of their specialty drinks (the Salted Carmelita) sans milk.) When I asked for the same drink the next day the woman behind the counter looked at me like I was an idiot. I said the guy yesterday did it for me... She said, well "the owner really hates it when people alter things. The drink is supposed to be served a particular way. So..." OK. I get that this isn't Starbucks but really.... Customer service goes a loooooong way with me. I said, well can I get a caramel americano with a sprinkle of sea salt on top? She just stared, finally said OK, but if I wanted salt I would have to ask the barista. then charged me $4.50. REALLY?!?!?! It's good coffee. It really is. And the space is terrific. But this counter service irritated me just enough to knock it from 4 stars to 3... read more

Ive been to Thump three times now. As an avid beverage imbiber Thump hits most of my buttons. They use high quality ingredients, emphasizing more subtlety, and a comfortable yet slightly aloof atmosphere. I am not sure that I've tasted better coffee from anywhere. I freely admit that I'm not the most cultured when it comes to high end coffee. They have labels that describe flavors that one might detect (black currant, etc) that I find to be dead on. I enjoy their Columbian coffee black from my French press, which I cannot say for any other roaster. Their Mocha is deliciously concocted. It is not overly sweet, which is a most welcome change from other coffee shops. The chocolate that they use ads its own nuances as well. I'm a fan. I do not know if the beans are organic or not. I don't believe so as I haven't seen it advertised. Also, a large coffee there is, if I recall correctly, only 16 ounces. I have absolutely no problem with this as I prefer to not over consume, but I know many like their beverages tall. I'll definitely be back. read more

I'm stingy with my stars, but this is a five-star establishment. Also, I'm a born and raised Bendite (transplanted to southern Oregon for work only recently). Sometimes us "locals" feel a bit of righteous indignation at all the changes over the last 10-15 years. However, Thump is one of those businesses that allows me to see the bright and beautiful side of all the changes. Sure, they managed to track down some strange Portland-style hipster baristas, but that doesn't prevent them from making the best cup o' coffee in town. Thump's baristas deftly wield Stumptown Coffee beans. Their sweetened beverages are the best I've had and the coffee "on tap" is always fresh and flavorful. Thump has a great feel. It's a bustling busy coffee shop sporting a rotating arsenal of beautiful local artwork. Sometimes they have live music, they usually have plenty of outdoor seating, and somehow I can't visit Thump without running into an old friend. I'm a fan. read more

It was Friday, and I always need a little extra caffeine on Fridays. I headed downtown with a friend. A week or so earlier we had peered through the windows near Staccato where a sign stated, simply, "something is brewing". Our guess was a coffee shop, his guess (and hope) was for a Stumptown. He recommended that we check to see if it was open yet. It is! The owner/manager (?), Kent, was there. He is very friendly, chatty, and willing to answer questions. The baristas seem nice too. Kent told us that thump brews Stumptown Coffee. They are an independent store, not a franchise of Stumptown. This was their first day of being open for business, and it was evident they were getting settled. Someone was working on the lights that hang over the counter. Offerings in the deli case were sparse. But we were there for coffee... and they had plenty of that! I tried the drip coffee. A Guatemalan blend, very smooth, and piping hot. A little bit of nutty flavor, but not overwhelming. I liked it very much! My friend had a soy mocha. While preparing the drink our barista asked, "how chocolatey?"... and gave him extra chocolate. Though it was a little on the lukewarm side, it was pronounced "yummy!" :) The interior is nice. Lots of earth tones, very warm! The counter and floors are concrete, and there is nice ironwork under the counters as well. Since that first trip I have been back on multiple occasions and the food offerings get a little better each time. The coffee is awesome (how can you go wrong with Stumptown?) thump is one of the few shops in Bend that knows how to make a good cappuccino! The wifi is free and there is a hidey hole in the back with comfy chairs. So... next time you're downtown and looking for a caffeine fix, think about passing Starbucks and giving thump a try! read more

When addressing a group of caffeine addicts jet lagged from Florida, our host quickly pointed us to Thumps. Fortunately for guests Thumps is located in downtown bend, literally across the street from the Oxford as well as the Phoenix Inn, so have a nice short walk to get the blood flowing and then really perk up with the coffee. Now I hate Starbucks. Its not something I go for coffe; rather I go there for coffee flavored frozen drinks. Being from Miami, you have no excuse to ever go into a Starbucks when you can get stronger and cheaper cafe con leche or colada. That being said, I prefer the uniqueness of a non-Starbucks coffee house with real atmosphere. You'll get that at Thump. You'll also get real sizes and flavors. I kept getting the Vanilla something something. It was sweet and strong, and aww, the barista made a heart in the foam. Thump, you have won my heart. We were staying in Bend for a few nights for a wedding and found this place on Yelp. It was close by to our B&B but we decided to drive since we had to take the car out to run errands. There was plenty of parking available outside of the store along the street. It's also really easy to park and walk to this location. There is a bit of a small line once you get inside but it goes by really quick. Their mochas are amazing! I tried their Vanilla Mocha and their Belgian Mocha and both were good though I loved their Vanilla Mocha even more. And both taste good with soy milk! After hearing the owner's passion and dedication for Thump and enjoying a sample of their own beans, I decided that it was possible that my original rating might need updating. (I am never wrong but will conceded that there is always a possibility for change). On a short trip to Bend this last week, I got to give it another try. Thump has a unique vibe. It is earthy, soulful and almost tribal. I could sit and read the ceiling art for days. Beautiful. I was a little dubious on my first sight of the ski bum at the counter but he was very friendly and even offered for me to "squish" the pastry so I could see if it was soft enough for my son to eat. haha The staff seemed to have some friendly banter going which was amusing, not off putting. My vanilla latte was smooth, rich and velvety. The Madagascar vanilla really made it in a class of it's own. I honestly said, "mmhmm" on my first sip. There is a lot of tall seating and bar seating which makes it a little trickier for a mom with a stroller but I can see where it would be really inviting to everyone else. So, the long and short of it is -go sip some coffee so good it will make you moan, reflect on the beautiful thoughts on the ceiling and help support a truly local business that good people have clearly poured their heart and soul into. read more

Only downside was there was not oat milk available, which is a bummer because it's much less environmentally impactful than almond milk and other alternatives, healthier, and actually pairs really nicely with coffee (unlike almond milk). Love the vibe, awesome coffee, limited seating.....the ginger cashier - not so nice. I went there on a recent trip to Bend. I love and appreciate independently owned coffee places. Coffee in a mug ranks on my list of favorites. Anyhow, the lady that took our order and our money couldn't hint a smile and almost seemed inconvenienced to help us and take our money. Luckily, my interaction with the other people behind the counter was pleasant. BTW, it was a busy little place but there wasn't anyone behind us in line. My friend and I had a bacon and cheese quiche. Amazing! Held me over for a flight home until a late lunch. I would recommend Thump Coffee. I hope the lady at the counter isn't normally this unpleasant. I know many people in Central OR need a job so it wouldn't be too hard to find a replacement - I wouldn't want her manning my counter. 3 stars because everything else was excellent. read more

I got the vanilla bean mocha and it was some of the best coffee I've had in Bend. My husband ordered the mexican mocha (or whatever they call it) and it specifies "spicy" but, unlike other places that do mexican mochas, that means SPICES - as in cinnamon, not literally spicy. It was still dang good. The atmosphere was a little smug for me. It was a weird mixture of hipsters and really, really pissy looking yuppies. The barista and cashier were really nice though. They didn't really start being "nice" until we gave them some encouraging smiles and compliments, and to be honest I totally understand that considering some of the clientele. It was a little pricey for coffee though. Almost $5 for a medium sized drink. read more

I am positively obsessed with coffee. I drink massive amounts of it and insist on the best. Thus, Thump gets "mad kudos" as the best joint in town. Stumptown beans, served with pizzaz and an extremely friendly staff (though I think you need to be a regular for this to be absolutely true, admittedly)...
