Neighborhood Diner. The service? Pleasant. I'm a creature of habit so no matter which TU I'm visiting, I order the fish and grits with cheese in the grits, egg whites, and toast. Today was no different. I was served a large, perfectly-seasoned and fried catfish filet. Truly, chef's kiss. The grits were also perfectly seasoned...but the best part is that the cheese was already mixed in. Unlike most breakfast spots where they just pile some cheese on top of the same grits they serve everyone, they didn't make me work to prepare my cheese grits on my own. The egg whites were plentiful and fluffy, although they were unseasoned. This was fine since I was mixing them with my other (again, perfectly-seasoned) food items. A friend took me here for breakfast and the food and service were really good! We added our name to the waitlist online so and the table was ready once we got there. Omg where to start? Thumbs Up Diner has to be the closest to a home cooked, grandma's kitchen type of breakfast spot. It has such a local, down home feel and Jessica was so sweet. There was so much to choose from but I eventually decided on the pork chop breakfast. The pork chops were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I have to be honest. I wasn't able to finish my food till later because I overindulged with the biscuit. They use real butter and provide a homemade compote that's to live for! Later on in the evening, I ate my second porkchop and potatoes from the to-go container without reheating. In my opinion, that's the ultimate test and they definitely passed it. Food was amazing! I'm writing this review in hopes of this review to get noticed by management. There was no AC on the patio. Me and my party were not warned. After we ordered, we realized it was unusually hot. We asked the waitress, an older woman about the AC and she said that it was broke (Our waitress was amazing by the way). Casual diner that serves with southern hospitality and large portion sizes. They have a small parking lot but plenty of street parking. Décor is more on the older side but food is delicious. Would recommend adding yourself to the waitlist on weekends about 10 minutes until you reach there so that you don't need to wait as long once you arrive. Stopped in for a quick breakfast yesterday and were able to be seated right away. It was early enough and there was no wait, so we didn't need to join the waitlist online (but that option is very much appreciated). I had the low country heap and my husband had a bacon egg cheese biscuit with a side of fruit French toast. He and my daughter (2 yo) devoured the French toast! There's almost always a wait so we hung out, it took about 45 minutes. Thumbs Up always feels like a classic diner and I love their cozy booths. This was approximately 10 years ago and they've been going strong for over a decade. This week I came in with a graduation party. We had a great server who accommodated all of our requests. So sorry I don't remember her name. My only issue is that my meal was pretty burned. I ordered one of those skillet scrambles that come with the spuds and eggs and a meat or veggie protein. I was starving so I started plowing through my food and as I swallowed thinking that it didn't really taste that great but I was hungry. I got the rest to go and when I got home and the excitement from graduation had worn off, I opened the box and saw how burned the potatoes were; not scorched but burned. You have your regulars, who sit in and eat, your walk in carry outs, and people like me who come looking for good hearty food before we start our day. Never taste shrimp and grits with chopped tomato's inside I would have opted to leave them out. My dish was the fried catfish, cheese, grits, and homestyle potatoes. The fish was fried and seasoned perfectly. Definitely the best thing on my plate. What's not to like about Thumbs Up? Quick service, great portions and even better prices. The staff treats you like you're family from the time you come in til the time you leave. Perfect for those who aren't the brunch-y type and prefer a more traditional diner setting to have some good breakfast with family or friends. This is my favorite breakfast place in Atlanta. The food is always amazing. The pancakes are very large so if you have the pancakes, make sure that you only order the sides that you need. That's just my recommendation. I don't eat beef or pork, so the fact that they have chicken and turkey meat alternatives is always a plus. It's also not very expensive so if you bring the family or anything, you won't spend a crazy amount. It is a smaller restaurant, so if you go during the weekend, you'll probably have a little bit of await. But I promise it's worth it. They will take down your name and send you a text message when it's ready. There is outdoor seating, so if it's a nice day, you can just kick it outside. There's also a coffee shop very close so I usually make it a tradition to go grab some coffee real quick and then come back and eat my breakfast. The counter area has faster turnover so if you're OK with sitting at the counter, you could probably get in and out a little bit faster. The staff is normally really friendly and they are people that have worked there for a while so you tend to see them every time you go. Like I said this is my favorite breakfast place in Atlanta so I will tell anybody that goes or visit the city to come straight here first. read more

I was able to get on the waiting list via Yelp which made the process much easier than signing up and waiting outside. When we arrived I went inside to check in, I was greeted upon entry and was advised that I would receive a text when the table was ready! We were able to park on the side of the building by scanning a QR code. Once I received a text we entered the restaurant and were seated immediately at that time I also received the QR code so that we could continue to receive free parking! This my favorite spot. This is a no thrills only cash diner. The food is cooked with quality and integrity. EVERYTHING good. I've been several times. I always order Al carte, but my favorites include biscuit and chicken gravy, bacon and French toast, and the fried catfish. The biscuit is good by it self, but the gravy. Whew. It has chicken sausage, red peppers, onions, and other stuff I can't make out. It puts you in the mind of a seafood gravy but with sausage. The one biscuit and gravy is a meal in itself. The catfish has been fried perfect every time I've ordered. The pieces are reasonable sized. The breading is seasoned. Very nice. I do it up Witt a little mustard and hot sauce. The French toast is made with challah bread, so it a thick cut of light airy bread. I recommend adding the whip cream and fruit blend which includes (strawberries, blueberries, and bananas). This is pretty pricey at 7 dollars and syrup is an extra dollar. So I did roll my eyes at that. Not a cliche brunch spot in Atlanta, but it's good food, friendly people.
