Never going to shop at Thrifty threads again. This is the second time I tried to purchase something and the owner tells me, "oh no that's not the price I don't know who did the pricing on this item" , and then proceeds to mark up the item almost double the marked price, right in front of me. Is that the worst customer service ever, or what!? The item that I was purchasing even said "as is" on it. It was something I was going to have to repair . I also saw her do this to a man that did not speak English. So he ended up paying double for his items. I tried to explain to him what was going on, but he didn't understand, he probably could have bought those items new for the same price. I felt bad for him. I feel like she is taking advantage. I feel like, with me, she thought" she can afford to pay more." I did not purchase the item based on principle. Can you imagine going to your favorite clothing store, bringing up all your items to the register, and the cashier saying "oh no this shirt is not $14.99, it's supposed to be $30.00", based on you either not speaking English or looking like a white lady with money . What!? And yes, I totally would understand if this happened once and it was a legitimate mistake. But I've seen it happen three times now. I just can't believe with this kind of behavior this store is still in business? read more

I stopped by in a whim, when I drove by and saw a little thrift shop. They had some cute items, lots of mens items! The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is for a couple of reasons. First, they're pretty pricy for a thrift shop. Most shorts and jeans were $15-$20, I found a pair of older shoes that were cute but $25. Definitely higher overall than a lot of other shops I've been to in the area. Second, because there was a Free People top priced at $20 that was REALLY cute, but when I tried it on, I noticed a sizable snag/hole on the front on the chest. I brought it to their attention and the owner offered to take $4 off. $16 for a shirt with a hole? Ehhh. I passed. It was suggested I get an appliqué at Walmart and put it on the shirt, and while it's a good idea, it's not really reasonable for somebody wanting to keep the shirt as is (solid grey with bell sleeves). They then priced it at $15 and put it back on the rack. It made me a little sad because I didn't see the hole until I tried it on. I almost bought it outright without trying it on, and if I had I would have bought a shirt with a hole. I worry somebody else will unknowingly make that mistake. I also noticed more than a couple of items in the shop with stains on them, which was a bummer. I did buy a Free People tank top for $18. It's adorable and I'm happy with the purchase, since it had the tags on. I wish this business all the best, but likely won't be returning based on today's shopping experience. read more

They've got tons and they are all tackier than the last. Halloween costumes galore, All that, plus your standard thrift shop items by the rack. All of these gems tucked inside this little hole in the wall. Go ahead and stop in... the help is friendly and like to giggle with you when shopping for something funny. They are helpful when it comes to anything you are looking for in this quirky little thrift shop. I'm a fan. They only accept local checks and cash... so keep that in mind when shopping. This place rocks! I found a pair of billabong board shorts for $17. This is a STEAL. It gets better. I only had $14 in cash with me so the owner was like "just give me your money!!!" I did and she gave me the shorts. That's what I call service! read more

When I say this is the worst thrift store I have ever been to, I very much mean it. The owner and her other co-managers or whoever it is that buy the clothes for the store, are RIDICULOUSLY rude. Always sassy, bad attitude, etc. The clothes are total crap and everything is very worn and I constantly see things with strings coming out and stains on them. Ew. When it comes to buying clothes, this woman does NOT understand high quality. She one day claims she only wants Hollister and Roxy brands, etc. So I bring in a whole bag of all the brands she always sells, and she purchases nothing, claiming she is an expert on fashion and that the ONLY thing people like to wear nowadays is racerback tanktops. She also is extremely rude, and when looking through my bags, she said my clothes smelled bad and that nothing was cute or useable. Funny enough, this is just after I had made over a hundred dollars selling to Flashbacks. Obviously there seems to be something wrong here... Seriously she has terrible taste and had been incredibly sassy and insulted me many times. She even asked me if I wanted to give her my whole bag of clothes for no money because it wouldn't sell anywhere. Give me a break. They also have no vintage or even modern day quality clothing. The selection is pretty strictly worn down wanna be surfer clothes and Victoria's Secret or Hollister. Overall, if you come here, you will be paying extremely high prices for crappy clothing that will probably be stained, see-through, or rip within the next week, and you will be treated with little respect. I'll pass and go to Flashbacks. Btw I am never selling my clothes here again. 1 dollar for a brand new 40 dollar jacket? Not even. read more

This place is probably the most under-rated thrift shop I know of...they have a great jeans selection and once again you can find some good boardshorts here...another huge thing is the prices are the lowest for this quality of clothing (brand new Paper jeans for $18 or Levi's 514 style for $14) The only downer is that I have witnessed people getting walked in on (including myself) in their dressing rooms...so beware of the worker who does not knock... I have been coming here for years! Before 4 kids and through all pregnancys, going from a size 3 to a size 13 and back to a 3 well maybe a 5, is cause for a wardrobe change! It's totally in plain sight, and nobody notices it? Every once in awhile I cruise in and find a gem. Even cooler is during Halloween when they have costumes for sale. I've rented a gorilla suit (the chicken costume didn't fit) and a trendy pirate costume for a pirate partay. Good times. read more

Great for sellers- they took ALMOST ALL of the clothes I brought with me! They typically offer you $4-$12 per item, depending on the designer. The only items they don't take are dress clothes. I will definitely come here first before going to Buffalo Exchange next time I do my spring cleaning! I didn't stay to shop but will be back. read more

I really wanted to give this place a chance, as I had two full bags of clothes in good condition that I wanted to drop off here. My first attempt at dropping them off, I showed up at 5:30pm on a Thursday (hours online stated they were open til 7). I start unloaded my bags from the car only for the owner to walk out and tell me they stop buying clothes at "5pm every day of the week". Even though I was a little annoyed because I had driven twenty minutes after work and this is not mentioned on their website, I told them I'd be back in a few days to try again. So, I show up a few days later on a Sunday at 4:55pm rushing to make it before the 5 pm deadline, and the same lady tells me they stop buying at 4:30 on Sunday's. Again- where is this listed on the website?!! And why did she tell me 5 pm a few days earlier? At this point I didn't want to give her my business and was just super bummed out that she didn't even offer to help given that she knew I drove up two separate times. we happened by this place at the Encinitas Fair, and really am glad we saw it. my daughter found a few gorgeous shirts before we even knew it was thrift clothes (they were displayed very nicely on the sidewalk at the fair). i was thinking, wow, so cheap, and so nice, and before i know it, i figured it out. i really thought they carried very clean, tasteful clothes. it was a good experience! read more

Found this place on Yelp. A co-worker of mine was throwing a heros and villians costume party. I figured I couldnt go but it turned out i got out of work at the last minute. I called this place and despite having to close in 30 min, the woman who answered kept the place open to help me out. Upon arrival, she, fortunatley, had a few costumes, including a superman outfit i picked up. It was marked 47.99 on the package, but she said it was on sale for 36.99. This was nice because, she probably was sure I was going to purcchase it but told me the sale price anyways. She also said that during Holloween they expand their selection of costumes and have some truly unique rental costumes incluing a captain morgan outfit. Today I got a pair of Vans for $12.00 and a flannel cowboy shirt for my boyfriend that was $8.99 it's got really good guy stuff, and most of the girl stuff is really cute but tiny! I come to this store about once every couple of weeks because I always enjoy finding new pieces of clothing!! Everything in the store is reasonably priced, especially compared to their competitor Flashbacks. Their masks that they are selling currently are also wonderful!! I have also sold clothing to this store as well. While they are picky about what they purchase, I can respect that because the store is definitely well put together and each piece that they sell is unique. This store is an eclectic historical landmark in Downtown Encinitas (it's been around since the 70's) and is definitely worth the visit!! read more

Well, I was hoping all those bad reviews about the owner may have improved her customer service, NOPE! She didn't smile, she didn't say hello, and was just down right rude. I normally just donate our clothes to the needy via Goodwill or Salvation Army but my husband recently had a bunch of shirts either with the tag still on them or just worn once. I read in another review the owner was really only looking for surf attire, especially men's tshirts, well guess what I brought her, about 20 surf shirts, all name brand. She looked at each shirt for about 1 second then threw them in a pile. Of 20 nice shirts, she kept 5 and offered me $3 each, what a joke. In a way I'm glad, it felt even better donating the remaining 15 shirts to people who appreciate and need them. Don't waste your time here or give this woman any more business unless she's going to treat her customers better. read more

The worst customer service EVER!!! i didnt get greeted when i walked in, i stood at the register for about 2 minutes (she glanced a few times but didnt say anything) while she chatted with her friend. Finally acknowledging me, she said " be with you in a second", i waited and she even helped another girl before me, cause she knew her! The girl she was talking to (her friend) received $36 and the other girl she knew who she assisted before me, got $60. After me waiting for a half an hour she continues her conversation with her friend and even stops helping me to turn and talk to her! All in all i only received $10 because she didnt have money left!!!! Are you kidding me lady!!! I went in there with very decent barely worn clothes, Plus the clothes they already have a really ugly and worn out.wow. This was the owner i was dealing with, and everytime i go in there its the same HORRIBLE customer service! i would never recommend this place to anyone! and this also goes for the other women that work there, all snooty, rude, disrespectful people. read more

Totally useless if you're looking for women's clothing. The place is full of flannels, guys swim trunks, and men's Hawaiian shirts. Huge waste of my time. The lady in there was creepy too. She kept making nonchalant statements that we felt like we were intended to overhear, such as "I just cater to the people of Encinitas" and "Oh what a cute shirt she (the owner) found [to sell in the store]." One of my student teacher friends recommended this place to me and said he got all his teacher clothes here for a good deal. I'm all for good deals and I happened to be in the mood for some thrift store shopping so I gave this place a try. Ugh, thoroughly disappointed. I left after ten minutes or so. The selection was so limited! Probably like 4-6 racks of ladies stuff total. The store itself was really small and I actually walked right by it because I was expecting something bigger. I felt so cramped up while I was looking around. The parking lot was rather small as well but it was empty when I went on a Friday afternoon. I'm not saying you or someone else couldn't find a gem here, but there was nothing in my style and I wouldn't go back any time soon. My daughter and I found this little shop and decided to go in and have a look. My daughter found some cute corsets and got excited, because it was perfect for a Halloween costume. Unfortunately, the corset she wanted didn't have a price tag on it. I pulled the corset on the rack next to it and it had a tag, so I read it. It had an original price of $16.99 on it, which had been crossed out and reduced to $8.99, and that was crossed off and further reduced to $5.99. We brought this corset to the counter with the corset my daughter wanted that didn't have a price on it. There were two women at the counter, one sitting and the other dealing with another customer. The one sitting began to assist us, we gave her the corset my daughter wanted to purchase and told her there wasn't a price tag, and showed her the corset with the reduced price tag. Immediately, the one assisting the other customer looked over and began saying that wasn't the right price. She took the corset away from us and said it's Halloween time and you have to pay more. I was taken back by this, but my daughter really wanted the corset so we asked how much? We were then quoted $18.99 for our purchase. My daughter then pulled out her debit card to pay. We were then abruptly told, we aren't accepting cards right now, cash only because we need the cash flow. I really wanted to toss this corset back at them at this point, but I kept my cool and pulled out my personal cash to pay for it. Bottom line, after this abhorrent experience, I will NEVER come to this shop and give them my business ever again! read more

I went here after a disappointing experience at Double Take in Solana. The woman who works there has been there for 30 years. Her mom started the shop (I think) and she is friendly and runs a good business. There were quite a few people in there shopping. She bought quite a few pieces but passed on some of the more expensive items since the demographic that shops there is usually more focussed on surf clothing. She gave me a fair price for my items except a few that she was concerned about whether or not she could sell them, so I took back some of the pricier stuff (there's always Buffalo Exchange of ebay), got my cash and was on my merry way. I would definitely recommend this place for clothes in the surfer vibe or if you want to sell some stuff. read more

I usually avoid this place because the owner is always so rude. Today, I ignored my intuition and went in to see if I could get rid of some of the clothes I wanted to sell here. There was a new lady behind the counter, a good sign or so I thought. I asked her if she was buying any clothes today, and she gave me a noncommittal shrug that indicated I should heave my bag up onto the stool. She then proceeded to take armfuls of clothing out of the bag, looking at two or three items at a time for two seconds before shoving them onto the counter in a pile while quizzing me on whether I had any men's, surfwear, or Free People. And these were clothes that had already been folded, mind you. Again my better judgment left me; jokingly, nervously, I said, "Heck no! I can't afford Free People!" She gave me a look- of pity? I can't tell- and pointed me toward the Free People rack. 'Take a look while you can', I guess. I was so eager to get out of there I held my bag open while she dumped the mess she had made of my clothing back into it and hightailed it out of there.
