A great thrift shop that has great deals. The service is a little lax but it is a thrift shop

I'm not someone who usually leaves bad reviews. I try to be understanding and remember that not everyone is having their best day. However, this experience really crossed a line. I understand that the parking is for in-store customers only. But the moment I stepped out of my car, a woman came running out of the store and started yelling at me, saying the parking was for those businesses only. I hadn't even walked away from my vehicle yet, and she had no idea where I was going. For context, I'm a Type 1 diabetic, and my blood sugar suddenly dropped very low. In that moment, I urgently needed food or I risked being unsafe to drive. My boyfriend was with me, but he isn't insured on my car and doesn't know how to drive a manual--and she still insisted that I make him take my car. On top of that, it's not safe for me to be walking around alone when my blood sugar is that low. I calmly explained the situation and told her I just needed a quick snack and would be back in under five minutes. Despite that, she showed zero empathy and continued yelling. At that point, my priority was my health and safety. I also didn't feel comfortable leaving my car unattended given her aggressive behavior. I waited a few days to write this, but as a Type 1 diabetic, this situation was genuinely scary and upsetting. This happened Saturday in the late afternoon. Situations like this deserve more understanding and basic human compassion. Please do better. read more

On their website they state that they buy clothing daily half an hour after they open at 10am and a half hour before they close at 6pm. I drove 30 minutes, arrived at 5:35pm, and was rudely told they were "Not buying clothing after 5pm." I explained that they should change the website and the woman working was extremely rude and dismissive. She told me to go across the street and sell at Flashbacks. The degree of apathy and disrespect was palpable...I will not be going back here again. read more

I walked in today with my son that had a lollipop did not get greeted by anyone I am a mom that is very aware of my surroundings and I do not let my son run around stores his back was touching a rack behind me, I hear " this is not a place to be playing in racks especially with a lollipop" I look over and she's talking to my son directly I was caught off guard because he was not "playing" and was right by me. Rubbed me the wrong way. Sucks because I have been in here a few times with my son and have never had a bad experience before. Some advice talk to the parents not a 4 year old little boy who has no idea he's doing something "wrong" Reading some reviews seems like this is the norm for the staff. read more

Cindy was really nice and gave me a deal when I bought a couple pieces of jewelry. The only downfall is that a few of the crystals or stones inside of the jewelry fell out when I wore it the first time. Customer service is nice. Walked into the store, looks like the owner and another employee working. Was never greeted not even a simple "hello". There was a $10.99 ring in a display case I wanted to look at and a $16.99 green purse I wanted to buy but they couldn't even greet me and make me feel welcome in there. Too busy talking about some gathering at chick n hawk and completely ignored my presence. Sucks I bet they would have loved to make a little extra money today. read more

Fun little resale store that offers a mix of funky vintage dress up, cool local surfer vibe, and fun little accessories. I went in with my daughters who wanted to find some cool jeans. One of the best shops for thrifting that I have ever been in! Family-owned and welcoming, with many many name brand items-found two Vuori plants for my son, like new, for an amazing price! Super well organized with treasures from every era! Loads of rare finds too! Feels more like finding treasure than shopping! Unexpected cool place a bit tucked away in Encinitas. My first time going there a few weeks back. I found actually very nice cheap clothes even if I was not expecting to find anything. Everything was excellently organized considering that the store is not huge and they have a lot of content. However, the overall smell was not pleasant and I am picky with that. I also liked their hats on display and sell. I got brand names there but, again, I had the feeling of things not being cleaned. read more

Well sorted size, which as a large guy I appreciate, though there are a lot of shirts I love the style but they aren't big enough. Parking can be a challenge if you don't find a spot up front. Was in in February and the lady told me to bring my stuff back because they would be taking spring selections after March. Brought back the exact same items 4 dresses 2 pairs of flowy cotton shorts and did not buy anything. If she was not interested I wish she would've told me back in February not to have lead me on and to waste myself a trip as well as her time now I have a bad taste in my mouth for the establishment. She offered the girl before me $2 for an item and even mentioned they wanted sun dresses if mine weren't deemed "good enough" you should've mentioned that the first time. read more

Neat little thrift store in Encinitas. My gf and I came out to check out the shops in the area and this was our first stop. They've got a nice selection of thrift store essentials (tees, pants, hats, button ups, sunglasses), even saw some old fashioned attire that looked fitting for costumes for a play. Lots of cool beach attire as they are right next to the water and surrounded by They have several articles of clothing that seem to be new with tags, with multiple in stock, probably extras from a store. It's a small shop and we spent less than 10 minutes going through everything but my gf was able to come up on a Free People fiddler hat for over half the price of retail! Great come-up! It might be easy to overlook this spot when in the area because there are a ton of other shops on this strip but I'm sure we will always come by when we are in the area :-) read more

I've lived in Encinitas my whole life and have always loved stopping by Thrifty Threads on my walks around downtown. It's a quirky little shop, with some great finds if you're lucky! Stopped in yesterday and grabbed the most gorgeous Banana Republic trench coat ($25) and silk skirt ($10). For a thrift shop they are a tiny bit on the pricier end, but for these wonderful quality brand name pieces I think it was more than worth it. For the most part, the pieces in there ranged from $7-$30, anything above $20 typically being higher end clothes like jackets, coats, and suits. I'll be back soon! read more

The Bad: Rude, bad customer service. Possibly the worst place in Encinitas. Someone said it in their review, it's the armpit of Encinitas. It's like walking into someone's garage full of their stuff. It smells. It feels dirty. And you'll want to take a shower after. The Okay: Somehow, this place is still there and has been there for years. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I prefer the friendlier vibe or at least nicer customer service at a charity thrift store. Stinky attitude, probably why this place smells. read more

Came all the way from San Diego to come to this place and boy oh boy I can definitely say that the energy of the shop was definitely all bad. First we had two kids with us and came in with one fountain drink and a closed container with two breadsticks. When we walked in, we weren't even greeted at all. Instead we were followed by an older woman with black hair that had glasses. She didn't even greet us, but instead said ladies, there's a table outside for your drinks and food. Of course, the fact that we weren't even greeted and we were just told something about how there wasn't allowed food or drinks. We left immediately. And as we walked outside, there is a very, very small table with a very small sign that is really hard to get peoples attention to let them know that there's no food or drinks allowed. Was definitely sad because we were excited to check out the thrift store but instead we were left with a very bad taste in our month about our experience . Also, We totally understand that there are shops that have no food and drinks inside but definitely getting a bigger sign to let people know that and also letting them know in friendly mannner! Under new ownership. I was asked to leave with my support animal that I've always brought in with me for years. She is my shopping companion, I keep in a stroller. Someone who works there is deathly allergic and has to get shots they said. Not sure how legal it is to not allow service animals but I can't shop there anymore. read more

Most awesome vintage store... EVER! We came in for specific clothing items (50's dress for my daughter to attend a dance, Hawaiian shirt for dad, a pair of funky overalls for me, a cool hat for my son) and not only did they surpass our expectations but the prices were fantastic. The lady who works here is awesome, sweet and helpful. Add it to the list of my new favorite stores! The store and clothing, not my thing. The owner amazing, which makes up for it all. I was recommended to take my clothes to sell here and was not let down! She bought all of my purses which was exactly what I was trying to get rid of and some dresses. Prices very fair, usually between $5-10 for an item, I can live with that, it's about making room for more and better things. The store is very very small and packed to tightly. The highlight would have been a pair of Paige jeans shorts for $12, not my size... The rest more average, but very well priced and much of it with tags still on it. A smaller thrift store in Encinitas, with racks of clothing crammed tightly inside. Some great guys stuff, but the girls section isn't the best I've seen. The ugly christmas sweater and costume racks are cool and fun, though the smell was hard for me. After a day of going into multiple thrift stores, this one had a smell that was a bit much for me. All in all reasonable prices for the clothes though, so if you find something you like it's a great price! read more

Thrifty Threads is a great second-hand shop located in downtown Encinitas. It's a store that's been in the family for quite some time and they do great business because of their knowledge and experience. The owner is usually in the store but she also has a great staff and give fair prices for the clothes she chooses to buy from you. One of the best times of the year to come here is for that really cool Halloween costume. They rent and sell new costumes as well as combination of old costumes and pieces that they put together to create an original. It's not well known yet, except if you're a local, for Halloween but I can bet once the word gets out this will be a very busy place. read more

So crazy in here! It is Halloween time and I never find myself in there at any other time of year, but everything is piled on top of each other and it is so hard to find anything. They have a ton of costumes and seemed like most are about $45. They don't have a lot of accessories to choose from either. I am also not sure if most of these costumes have been cleaned after being returned. But it doesn't smell "fresh" In here and not sure if it is because there is so much stuff piled on top of each other or it just isn't clean. Whatever it is, if you are in need of a costume, you may want to stop in, but frankly I think I would check the Halloween Stores first before I rented something from here. read more

Who would have thought that searching for ugly Christmas sweaters would be so difficult? With ugly sweater season upon us, I needed to find one stat. Problem was...I was having trouble finding any sweaters that fit the requirements. I've heard about Ugly Christmas Sweater parties for years but have never attended one. I'm more interested in wearing something cute than ugly. So I decided to compromise and find something that fit at least semi-flattering but had a holiday theme. Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I visited several thrift shops in P.B. Bad idea! It seemed that the shops had already been picked over by the college kids and there were shockingly few choices. It seemed it was either an insanely large sweater that at least three people could fit inside or a regular sweater with bits of Christmas decorations glued to it. Seriously?!? Christmas sweaters are not known for being attractive to begin with, it's really not necessary to add bits of tinsel and holly to make it extremely hideous. But yesterday, I joined my friend on a hunt for sweaters and we stopped by this thrift store, which I remembered seeing a couple weeks back. If I didn't know it was there, I probably wouldn't have found it. It's small and tucked away in a little strip mall just off the Coast Hwy. Yet this tiny story had the largest selection of Christmas sweaters that I had seen! The options still weren't one hundred percent ideal but when does thrift store shopping ever present the perfect choice? While I initially envisioned a cute yet tacky sweater with a Santa or reindeer knitted on the front, I never came across anything remotely close and I ultimately selected a simple ski sweater with snowflakes. On the plus side, at least it only cost $10, which is about what I was willing to pay for a one-time-wear sweater. The lady working there seemed nice so I'm not sure if it was a different person than the other reviewers encountered. I'm not a big thrift store shoppers but if I'm looking for something specific again, I may check it out. read more

I stopped by in a whim, when I drove by and saw a little thrift shop. They had some cute items, lots of mens items! The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is for a couple of reasons. First, they're pretty pricy for a thrift shop. Most shorts and jeans were $15-$20, I found a pair of older shoes that were cute but $25. Definitely higher overall than a lot of other shops I've been to in the area. Second, because there was a Free People top priced at $20 that was REALLY cute, but when I tried it on, I noticed a sizable snag/hole on the front on the chest. I brought it to their attention and the owner offered to take $4 off. $16 for a shirt with a hole? Ehhh. I passed. It was suggested I get an appliqué at Walmart and put it on the shirt, and while it's a good idea, it's not really reasonable for somebody wanting to keep the shirt as is (solid grey with bell sleeves). They then priced it at $15 and put it back on the rack. It made me a little sad because I didn't see the hole until I tried it on. I almost bought it outright without trying it on, and if I had I would have bought a shirt with a hole. I worry somebody else will unknowingly make that mistake. I also noticed more than a couple of items in the shop with stains on them, which was a bummer. I did buy a Free People tank top for $18. It's adorable and I'm happy with the purchase, since it had the tags on. I wish this business all the best, but likely won't be returning based on today's shopping experience. read more

Never going to shop at Thrifty threads again. This is the second time I tried to purchase something and the owner tells me, "oh no that's not the price I don't know who did the pricing on this item" , and then proceeds to mark up the item almost double the marked price, right in front of me. Is that the worst customer service ever, or what!? The item that I was purchasing even said "as is" on it. It was something I was going to have to repair . I also saw her do this to a man that did not speak English. So he ended up paying double for his items. I tried to explain to him what was going on, but he didn't understand, he probably could have bought those items new for the same price. I felt bad for him. I feel like she is taking advantage. I feel like, with me, she thought" she can afford to pay more." I did not purchase the item based on principle. Can you imagine going to your favorite clothing store, bringing up all your items to the register, and the cashier saying "oh no this shirt is not $14.99, it's supposed to be $30.00", based on you either not speaking English or looking like a white lady with money . What!? And yes, I totally would understand if this happened once and it was a legitimate mistake. But I've seen it happen three times now. I just can't believe with this kind of behavior this store is still in business? read more

I'm not sure if they are related to the Thrifty Threads in Vista which I've used before for some polyester pants, but it has that usual thrifty vibe. That strange smell you'd not quite sure of. That garage saley moth ballish musk that comes from other people's stuff. I rarely come into places like this except for costumes, get ups or theme specific attire, but while walking by drunk one night from Saloon and D Street I happen to see what I thought to be gold. Yes, quite festive ugly Christmas sweater's. More than I had seen at Goodwill's and the DAV combined. I decided to come back sober. With high expectations in mind I found out they only rent their good stuff in order to keep the inventory stocked. Now there's nothing wrong with renting, but at what point to you simply buy a tux instead of rent one for the full price of buying? Heck most of my previous sweaters we're $20.00 or less and even a new hand knit one was $40.00 so to hear they don't sell the cream of the crop ugliest sweaters was odd. I get the business aspect of it all, but if your renting them for $15.00 and selling most lesser ugly sweaters for less than that I don't get what is to stop someone from renting and not returning. Perhaps if the fee was like $200.00 then that would be discouraging, but rather than finding gold I found fools gold here. I now have 3 mediocre sweaters bought from all over and nothing quite what I wanted. It's the fact I can't customize the already ugly sweater if it's a rental I was checking out some pants and I found some decent deals, many distressed jeans and most unaltered (the worst is when you find a 33, but the inseam is 29). Hawaiian cabana shirts for men make up the majority of the selection of shirts, but they do have quite a bit of Hurley, Quicksilver and other popular skating brands. What caught me by surprise was I wasn't aware Dickies made a slim fit mens pant, but I found a few here, almost a classic chino cut instead of the roomier traditional cut. Perhaps if I was still 20 or still did construction I'd consider buying a new version of it, but they had quite a few womens handbags and mens jackets. Perhaps it's the socal weather and the proximity to the beach and the price of living her that causes people to sell what I would think would be highly valued for each gender. read more
