I'll drive completely across town to get here, because I love it that much. Prices are super awesome (great dress for three bucks today!), staff is friendly, and it's clean. I like how it's almost organized by what seems like a person with OCD. Sizes, colors, and the clothes aren't all crappy and stained. I mean, it IS a thrift store, so some stuff has flaws, but it's cheap as hell. Ah! sign up for the email list. USED TO BE GREAT! But whom ever is doing their pricing now is smoking something. I am an AVID thrift-er, in fact I hardly ever buy retail. I shop at Thrift Town at least 3 or 4 times a month. Anyway the last 2 times I have been in there I have been SHOCKED at some of the prices. The fist time it happened was a few weeks ago, we were in looking for a jacket, I found a cute little "PLEATHER" jacket with a FAUX Fur collar. It was nice, definitely used but nothing too bad. I looked at the tag and gasped, $40.00, REALLY, I asked an associate and explained that the jacket was not real in any way shape or form. She let me know that there was nothing she could do about the price. OK fine, and I left without the cute new jacket. Today I went back with my daughter to look for some cowboy boots. We are going dancing tonight, this happens once a decade and we don't need anything special...So we head over to THRIFT TOWN! We walk in and find the perfect pair. AGAIN they were used, but at least this time they were made out of an actual animal. The boots had been resoled and I did not recognize the brand name. My daughter tried them on and they were perfect. I turned them over and almost fell over. $69.99 ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? Again I asked the girl behind the counter and again...Sorry you are SOL All I can figure is that some famous person donated these two items and they must come with a certificate of authenticity when you buy them. SO Thrift Town should change its name to "Slightly Under Full Price Town". According to my bank statement, you have lost about $100.00 or more a month on this customer. Maybe I will stop in from time to time to see if you have fired the crack head pricing your free crap! read more

I Love thrift town. I am a larger girl and often find thrift stores frustrating because I spend a lot of time sorting through racks trying to get something close to my size. Thrift town has done that work for you since all of the racks are already sorted by size. So you spend your time trying stuff on instead of trying to find things. There prices are good, they have daily specials. They also have a frequent shopper stamp card so be sure to get that. read more

Upon moving to Austin and realizing there was a Thriftown here, I was soooooo anxious to check it out. And, well, I've been going back almost every week for the past year and a half! It's such a decent store with great prices, and the music they put on usually rocks! I supply my daughter's closet with dresses from this place. I've found brand new Nike's for $15 (just my size too!). Purses, yea, you can find a rocking leopard print purse for every day of the week for $3 each. I love searching through the kitchenware and finding off the wall gadgets that you can't buy in the stores anymore (maybe because so many people chopped their finger in the potato slicer?!). It's a fun store, and no matter who I go with, we always spend at least an hour in there! read more

I agree with Nicole, this store use to be great, but I refuse to buy unreasonably priced items. If you value community and reserving affordable businesses for the less wealthy demographic, don't place your money into high priced items at thrift stores. I use to shop here all the time but now something shady is going on with the pricing. I saw a winter jacket for $70! A common motive of donors for making contributions is to aid people of less fortune so it's not right to not honor that. Two stars for organization, but other than that, full of junk. Clothes are mediocre. Was followed around the entire store for the entire hour I was there, being side eyed by employees left and right. Little did they know I had brought almost $100 to do a small renovation on my wardrobe collection, but felt super uncomfortable being watched by everyone as if I was trying to steal. Thrift Town has ruined me for other thrift stores (at least those in Austin). It's so organized -- by size! genius! -- and clean and cheap! I found a Kenneth Cole top for about $2 and a Lilly Pulitzer dress for about $3. Take that, Goodwill. read more

Join their VIP email list and get coupons and they tell you when they are having sales. Which by the way are usually 50% off. This is most def. one of the better thrift stores here in Austin. Everything is organized by size and they also have special racks for "better cloths". Great prices and great variety of stuff. read more

I normally hate shopping for clothes at thrift stores, but Thrift Town is A-OK in my book. I picked up a great J Crew summer shirt for two bucks, and didn't have to spend 2 hours to find it. Man, I already thought that Goodwill had OK prices for most of the stuff they sold, but this beats it by a longshot! It's really well organized and stuff is really easy to find. If this puts things more in perspective, I got a pair of Air Jordans there today for $8. Shirts are in the $3-$7 range, and jeans are in the $5-$15 range (depending on brand/quality). Plus they have a bunch of housewares, books, movies, etc. I'll definitely be back soon. read more

Looked at the other reviews and thought I would give this thrift store a try. Absolutely enjoyed it. Not only do they sort by size but also by color which made it super easy to find what you may be looking for. Walked out of there with 8 items for less than $20. Super pleased. Store is kept clean, as well as the dressing rooms. Staff is super nice. Everyday they have a sale off of a particular color tag. I will be coming back here for sure! read more

this place is great! i went in to look for a sweatshirt (i found two for about $3 each), and while glancing through the vinyl section, i found albums by beck and the talking heads for $1 each. a dollar! they are very decently priced, well-stocked, and the employees are very friendly. i meant to visit both thrift town and the goodwill next door to it, but i spent all my money at thrift town first! read more

I love that this store has separate racks simply labeled 'BETTER CLOTHES'- ones that still had tags or the styles were in season/still trendy. This made shopping for dress pants MUCH easier. They have 50% sales frequently and today happened to be one! Brand new pants for work only $4. Nice staff, maybe needed a little more help up front. read more

This place is really big compared to other thrift stores. They have a large selection of clothes and shoes. The employees here weren't rude, but they weren't as welcoming as in some of the smaller stores. It was definitely more of a job and less of a passion for a good cause, imo. read more

The following is a copy of a letter I sent to Thrifttown's business office on June 15th, to which I have never received any type of reply: I am writing you concerning your return policy. I have been a customer at your Austin, Texas Manchaca location since soon after the day you opened there. Very recently, I bought a thermos there (the kind with the push top that pours without opening the lid). On the second use, about 10 days after my purchase, the top flew apart and is now unusable. I called about returning it and was told you have a strict no refund/exchange policy. I was told this was to protect you from fraudulent returns. But what protects your loyal long-term customers from substandard wares? I wasn't wanting cash -- which would be where any scam would enter the picture; I just wanted an exchange so I wouldn't feel like I had been totally burned! I cannot and will not do business with a company that does not stand behind its merchandise, especially if it's used. I make and sell handmade feather art and jewelry, and if one of my customers came to me (even) months after their purchase and told me feathers were falling out, I would exchange their product in a heartbeat so they would feel like they had gotten a quality product. In the end, I will have lost $5.00. On the other hand, you are going to be losing the hundreds/thousands of dollars I would have been spending at your establishment in future years. Not a good business call if you ask me. Anyway, I deeply regret terminating our retail relationship. I have always enjoyed coming into your store and have found many great buys there, but if I have no other recourse if I buy a lemon. Boy, "y'all" don't know what real thrift store prices are if you think this place is cheap! I just got here from Washington state, and I was appalled at the outrageous prices here and in every thrift store I've been in here in Texas. I've visited thrifts from the West to East coasts, and the ones in Texas are pricey - especially considering that the cost of living here is not as high as in, say, Seattle. Although it didn't have a smell (if that counts as a thrift store smell, you guys haven't been to some truly down and nasty thrifts, let me tell ya!), the selection was marginal, the furniture was horrendously overpriced, the toy selection was for #2, and I was particularly disappointed that I spent my time driving all the way to south Austin from Fort Hood based on the other reviews I read here. So if you're newly-arrived military and you're looking for cheap furniture, DON'T waste your time driving to Thrift Town. We wasted a lot of time and gas, and ended up going to IKEA instead. read more

I stopped by simply beccause I was garage saieing in the neighborhood. Given the exterior and location, I was happily surprised by the store's neatness and organization. The baby items and toys I looked at were very well priced and in good condition. Definitely worth a stop if you're nearby, but not necessarily worth the time to go out of your way. read more

A decent thrift shop. You really have to hunt for bargains. As like most retail chain thrift stores the items are overpriced in regards to clothing. They are on par with larger thrift chains like Greedwill and Savers/spend a lot. Clothing items as i can be very overpriced dependant on brand and such. I dont see how some of these places can call themselves thrift stores when your charging $10 for a shirt that normally retails in store for $12. read more

Sadly, I have to give this establishment 2 stars. For the second time, I have gotten to the register and had them price the items differently than marked. I have no quams paying the still very low prices, but this is just horrible customer service. Both times were a pair of heels that were marked low, but because of some code on the bottom, they were rang up high.... okay, does anyone else see the flaw in this system. just mark the bottoms of the darn shoes and we wont have problems at the register. I am not an unreasonable person, but if the tag says its a certain price, thats what you charge!!! This is hands down the best thrift store in Austin. Yes, it's in the middle of nowhere South Austin, but it is so, so worth the drive. I only make it here about 2 or 3 times a year, but every time I find something, ahem several things, I can't live without. Their kids clothing and women's clothing selections are outstanding. The store is huge. The prices are good and actually thrifty, as opposed to the overpriced items at Goodwill. They have plenty of good brands (Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Gap). They have the 50% off a certain color tag thing every day, and that makes the hunt even more fun and even more of a bargain-hunter's dream. They also have an email list that sends good coupons frequently (like $5 off your next $10 purchase, etc.). So the savings really add up. Allow yourself an hour or two minimum as there is a lot of treasure to dig through here. Go here first before hitting up any other thrift store in town, you will be glad that you did. read more

This used to be a great store until they started pricing everything in San Antonio. The selection is much less and less quality items. I am afraid they will be out of business in a few months. There are too many thrift stores in Austin for people to keep going there. I have talked to several other regulars and they feel the same way about the store. When I first moved to Texas, I was shocked by how high Goodwill's prices were as compared to the Goodwills in the Midwest. So I started looking for another thrift store Thrift Town is great! Clothing is organized first by size, then by color - so you're not searching through an entire rack trying to hunt for your size. Items are priced roughly by quality, and overall, they're cheaper than GW. They also rotate the color of the tags that they use to price new merchandise each week, and the color of the tag that's been out on the sales floor the longest goes on a 50% off sale. So every week, a new selection of items is 50% off. On top of that, they regularly run seasonal and holiday sales. They have a VIP program, but ever since it went all-digital I haven't seemed to actually earn any rewards, so I don't know how well that's tracked? But this place has been just what I needed while losing weight - a way to get good quality clothes inexpensively and not have to look like the Saggy Baggy Elephant. read more
