This was god awful one of the worst places I've eaten in long time. Went here since it was walking distance from my hotel; flying out next day. Inside the decor is worn, but that's not a big issue for me. Went in around 4:30pm took 15 mins. To see a waitress 20 mins. More to place order. Food took 25 mins or so Dry bland steak and ale pie; no flavor. Brie dip also not any good. Calamari was just tasteless. I should have just eaten in the hotel restaurant. Avoid this one for food. We appreciated the other reviews on the fact the process is different when ordering food & drink. You pay for it first at the bar then find a seat. Depending on the time of day you'll either be in a long line or you can walk right up. We were in the long line and by the time we arrived at the bar, wait for food was an hour plus. We decided to enjoy the ale and lager. Lots of choices especially local London variety. The inside was clean, a few tables needed servicing but most places have that issue these days. The building was welcoming, the staff polite and helpful. We liked sitting outside and enjoying our lagers. Inside had TV's for sports and is proud local favorite. Just had an excellent meal my wife had the Gammon I had the steak and Ale pie our starter was the Butchers plate for two. this was in my opinion more of a meal than a starter absolutely fantastic .The staff were very attentive especially Tracy our server . Unbelievably good, and in an unlikely spot, too. Bordered on three sides by roaring Heathrow, and the fourth on heavily trafficked Bath Road. You may find yourself at the Radisson Red hotel, which is fine--it's a good overnight spot if you have an early plane. The breakfast buffet sort of ratifies the outdated saying that you can eat well in England if you have breakfast three times a day. As for the dinners--hard pass! Overpriced and speculative Italian food. However, if you take the complicated crosswalks across the road, you'll be quite happy--handpulled imperial pints of Abbot Ale from this Greene King tied house, pies that quite justly won a national award, and a mixed and interesting clientele. Such friendly service and liveliness. This was our favorite pub in London--if you think this kind of food and drink is common, try to find its like. read more

What really surprised me about this rather run down pubs was the number of cars with drivers sitting out the front, though I suspect they might be uber drivers waiting for a pick up from the airport, or they could be drivers on the clock while their clients are inside having a nice beer. Still, it surprised me because, well, this pub is definitely not fancy. In fact it looks like it needs a pretty good coat of paint, and some renovation as well. Had a reservation for 4 and the place was packed so had to wait a half hour to be seated. Took 1 1/2 hours to get the food and it was terrible! The meat pie was still ice cold in the middle and had barely one piece of meat in it. What a joke! It used to be the place we always went to when having an overnight at Heathrow. Great place, food is really good, prices are very reasonable, the staff and manager are very helpful and nice. We have been here three days in a row. It is so good. Sometimes a bit of a line to get served, as it is pretty popular with the locals, but it's worth it, they have award-winning steak and ale pie, fish and chips is very good. We have tried quite a few things on the menus and we have not been disappointed with any of them. Definitely a place we will come to the next time they are visiting. We are all going to get stuck overnight at Heathrow at one point in our lives, and put up at some crap "airport hotel" (that may not even be on the airport shuttle line, like the Ibis.) In those situations, when the hotel bar doesn't suffice, just head on up to Three Magpies for your authentic English pub experience. The night I went the pub was completely packed, folks were singing and dancing; it was like a movie. I ordered a beer, hung out for a bit, and then walked back to my dreary hotel, but happy indeed. Maybe not all nights are this fun, but I must have picked the right one. The kitchen closes around 11, and they often run out of the beer you order, so have some back ups in mind. read more

Goodness, two very unfriendly, surly guys working the bar. Now, this pub is at Heathrow Airport, surrounded by hotels full of folks from all over the world. I'm so sorry, but I did not attend your " How to order food in an unfriendly pub" training course. The person in front of me was inquiring about whiskeys, he was from overseas and no doubt wanted some advice on what to try. The guy behind the bar just gestured over his shoulder to the shelf behind, without a word. The poor fellow ordering was trying to get some sage advice. When it came to my turn, I was not versed in their crazy food ordering system and they treated me like I was "less than". When I asked for clarification on which kind of steak they served, the other guy behind the bar said curtly " no idea!" Then added, "it's my second shift here " ... let's hope there's not a third. I don't expect gourmet food from a place like this. The chicken wing starter was fine. The steak ... no ... they advertise aged 28 days, I presume they mean in the freezer! The steak was tiny, grainy and tasted oddly of liver ... no grill marks or crusting of any kind. I do hope I'm OK for my flight in the morning. Zero customer service and questionable food make this a one time visit for me. I used to come here many years ago when it was good. Oh well. If they don't care, neither do I. The second star is for the nice young lady bringing the food to my table. She understands customer service. Replace the bar guys with her! There are better options locally than this. read more

With a variety of beer, and the cider they have on tap is really good. The manager is very kind, helpful, and quick on his feet with the pints. What a waste of time and money. I had known this place since the 70s and it has come from a first-class English pub to a below average, low quality food and an almost Seven Eleven drinking place. On our one-night stop in London, when we ended up at this place last week to meet friands thinking that it may be like a typical pub, we were highly disappointed. First, there were 2 clients lining up at the counter demanding their money back. One had been waiting for 2 hours and the other one for 3 hours for their food! Behind the bar. there was a youngster of about 17 years who had no clue about drinks, service or cash register. He kept telling everyone that food (even a hamburger) would take one hour to prepare! The atmosphere was cold resembling an almost abandoned bar on Route 66. Out of a minimum of about 10 draught beer pour dispenser, only 4 were working and when I asked what English Bitter they had, he pointed to Fosters! An English pub with no bitter sounds like a joke. The food was really bad. Even the chips (French Fries) were oily and burnt. There was only one person behind the bar (the clueless youngster). Went to 3 magpies in Bath Road Hounslow my partner had non alcoholic drinks then we went outside the restaurant and after 2mins I went in to use the toilet due to ill health I can't hold it. Therefore, thought of using the toilet before going in. The waiter with nose and ear piercings. Who got short dark hair stopped me from using the toilet. I explained to him that I was there 2mins before and already puchased items from them and due to having underlying health issues I needed to use the toilet. But he was was being extremely rude and called me "disabled cunt" I couldn't believe my ears. He threatened to kick me out. I felt like he was drunk cause I was shocked how can someone speak to their customer like that. I ended up leaving the pub. This made me extremely upset. I couldn't ask for a manager as it was late night and I was too upset to escalate this at that time. read more

Warm and friendly local kine pub with fresh Guinness for me and a delicious English ale for my husband. He enjoyed his ribeye steak with mushrooms and peppercorn sauce and my chicken and bacon salad was perfectly dressed and accompanied with cucumbers and tomatoes. This pub is badly in need of some help. They need a manager who can supervise and train the staff. Very slow service, only one server seemed to know what they were doing. The food was ok, but two of the three things we ordered, were not available. We saw many people waiting 20 + minutes to even speak with a server. Also the lights from the Christmas decorations everywhere are flashing so much I feel like I'm going to get a headache. I stay across at the hotel all the time and will only eat here. The service is great and the staff make you feel like a local straight away even when the pub is full. Best thing on the menu is the pork belly with mash and veggies. And best of all it all cost about half of what the hotels charge. They also show all the big sporting events in the bar area. My husband and I were super excited to eat and I yelped if before leaving the hotel and it said it closed at 11pm and as we walked in there at at 9:15pm they said had stoped serving food at 9pm. To be honest, if you are staying near the hotel for a brief stop, or if you have some prolonged layover at London Heathrow, I highly recommend you step out of the drab interior of the airport and head over across the street to Three Magpies. Its less than 5 mins from the Airport (easy cab or bus, and probably walkable if you are brave), and has comfy warm environment with a great selection of beers on tap, decent food, and best of all, some of the better prices in London. We stayed at the Renaissance for a 15 hour layover and headed over here to avoid 18 GBP dishes at the hotel. Stepped in and ordered 2 beers, Stella and Strongbow on tap. Beer was nice after a long first leg flight of our journey. With our beer, we got a discount on a burger, so we ordered up a cheeseburger and fish and chips. Cheeseburger was pretty lame attempt. I don't know how burgers are in the UK, but it was a thin slice of meatloaf served on a thin giant english muffin type bread. Still, hit the spot, it was nicely spiced, and wasn't inedible. Served with BBQ sauce (not bad), and some fries (so-so), and 2 little onion rings (obviously frozen) Fish and Chips were solid as well. A large lightly breaded, not too oily fried fish, with tarter sauce, and so-so fries. The fish was pretty solid, not too oily and pretty fresh for an airport location restaurant. Final bill was the best part, 2 beers, a good amount of food and we left under 25 GBP. Pretty good steal in my opinion since we ate at Yo Sushi in Terminal 3 for almost 50 GBP, and I had a sandwich and smoothie at EAT another time for 10 GBP. I'd give it 3-stars, but the fact that the staff is friendly, they accept foreigners and VISA, offer good beers, leave you alone to stay warm inside and enjoy your obviously brief stay, give you the chance to hear multiple languages spoken inside, and offer decent fare at good prices, I'd have to give it 4 stars. I didn't expect much from the only pub for miles around, near Heathrow airport, and a walk from several hotels. I half-expected it would be a soulless chain place. Was I surprised! Above-average selection of beers with two real ales (I had a pint of Bombardier "Kentish ale") and of course all the usual suspects (Carling, John Smiths, etc). I had a steak and ale pie with peas - real green peas, not overcooked and gray! The pie had a decent crust, not handmade and flakey, but sturdy , functional and tasty The filling was very savory and satisfying, but not too salty. Friendly staff, and that seems to rub off on the patrons. Warm and friendly decor, too...then there's even a fireplace. There's a patio in the rear (two, actually), VERY nice if you like watching (and hearing) Airbusses clawing their way skyward about every 4 minutes. Sure beats the hotel bar and restaurant! read more
