This is a fun neighborhood pub with an outside seating area and a large indoor eating area with a fireplace and plenty of tables. We have found that it is difficult to find a porter or stout in London, so we had to stick with Guinness, too bad. For a lighter beer, the Hoegarden isn't bad. They do have a good menu with burgers and pizza, but I decided on the homecooked pie with sweet potato, spinach and goat's cheese. It was served on a layer of green peas and mashed potatoes with a side of delicious onion gravy. The service was great. We got our food quickly and the bartender let us sample a few beers. read more

We ordered the beef pie with mash and I got the burger with chips. We did not share our food and we paired them with local beers on tap. I had the titanic stout, all night ipa, and mt husband had the pilsner. This was such a chill spot and the waitress and waiter/bartenders were cool. They were friendly and fast. It was a truly laid back atmosphere and I would definitely want to come back. It was walking distance to other places as well. It's a good combination of food, music, and beer. read more

After walking around for what seems like an eternity when shopping around High Street. One would work up an appetite, I in particular fancy the no frills, honest to goodness bar food. Me being the ignant American,, I don't really know how things go around here when it comes to dining. There's no host to greet and seat me, so I grab the attention of a fairly busy server. I told her that I didn't know how things go about, and that I would love to eat in this establishment. She told me she'll clean a table for me right away. After a minute or two I was seated. Then the menu came along with the drink list. I ordered the sausage and mash with a pint of Camden Ale to help it along. The beer came in first,, cold, properly fizzy and refreshing as ever. The sausage and mash is really good. I love the porter sauce that came along with. I will definitely recreate this dish at home in the future. Thank you Hansom Cab! We came here because of all of the great reviews. It has a great outdoor area and it seems like a local crowd. The beer was great and the food was even better. We tried the halloumi salad and fish and chips. The chips here were probably the best we had in London. The smashed peas were minty and a cool/different flavor (at least for me). I freaking love halloumi, so the salad was spot on for me, but it had a ton of olives in it, and my husband doesn't like olives so it was a miss for him. I visited this pub on the first night of my holiday and instantly fell in love! (I ended up in the pub 3 out of 6 of my nights during my holiday...and I'm not even a big drinker!!) The atmosphere there is just idyllic for winding down after a busy day in London. I can't rave enough about the amazing staff- they are all well versed on the draft selections and very warm to their patrons. There's a few TVs in the bar area- so, you die hard footie fans can catch your game while you enjoy your pint! You'll find a variety of indoor seating including bar seating, and dining tables. And, there's also some outdoor seating- if that's your preference! This evening was my first time dining at the pub and I wasn't disappointed! It's a while since we've been into the Hansom Cab. When we last visited, it was full of ageing (but pleasant) locals, and had a real Hansom Cab suspended, rather perilously from the ceiling. Since then, it's been thoroughly made over (albeit a while back - in fact, the whole interior looks somewhat scruffy, and I understand another makeover is in the offing). The paintwork has been re-done in that fashionable 'muddy brown' colour, the Hansom Cab has gone, and lots of old furniture has been moved in, along with lots of mirrors. There's some limited outdoor pavement seating in summer. Essentially, there's a front bar wrapped around an island counter, and a long room running across the rear: the front area has a few tables and standing room, whereas the back has lots of big, rather scruffy sofas - the sort you might expect to see in digs in 'Withnail and I'. The bar itself is a very impressive piece of internal architecture: pairs of dark wood columns with Composite (Corinthian/Ionic) capitals and decorative glass inlay rise right up to a canopy at ceiling height - as if a small Greek temple had been dropped from above. The punters seem to be a very mixed crowd of locals and a few visitors, and it all feels very unpretentious and cheerfully laid back - something of an achievement in this part of Kensington. The bar staff are similarly very friendly and helpful. They do several real ales - Black Sheep Bitter, Hog's Back TEA (Traditional English Ale), Doom Bar Bitter and occasionally Fuller's Bitter (though we were told this had been off for a while). It sounds very odd asking for a pint of 'TEA'! There's also a decent wine list, and they serve 'posh pub' food which has a good reputation, although we've not eaten here. On Wednesdays there's a quiz and on Tuesdays a Curry + Tiger Beer offer for £6.50. I'm hovering between three and four stars: the only downer (but one that really gets under my skin) is that the music was too loud, and the choice - tracks from films such as Mission Impossible, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, etc - slightly unnerving. Quieter music and a bit of tarting up, and it would happily deserve four stars, as a nice local boozer. So, for now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for having nice staff! read more

The food is OK. The salads are fresh and nicely presented. The fish and chips is quite good, as are the vegetables. The meat dishes we ordered (Sunday Roast / Beef Burger / Bangers) were all over cooked, and the margarita pizza was burnt. So, a mixed bag. The service was poor. When our group of 7 walked in, the two bartenders looked like we caught them in the middle of a crime; like they were stunned we were there. They didn't welcome us or offer a table, so we asked to confirm they were open for business and then asked if we could sit here? Here? Once seated, we sat. And sat. No acknowledgment until we reseated ourselves in front of the bar. Eventually they cleared our empty cold plates and we sat again, waiting for someone to ask if we wanted dessert, which we did. But nobody came. When we were clearly finished, we sat again waiting for the check. Nothing. Table service was a definite weak point. read more

A long standing pub taken over by the posh boys club, Piers Morgan, his brother Rupert and Tarquin Gorst, back in 2011. The look is highly renovated Victorian which lacks any real warmth or history, its all rather sleek. Service, which started well then nose dived, following a number of mishaps with the menu. We ordered a starter of deep fried brie, and when it arrived, there was no bread accompanying it. The portion was already much smaller than I anticipated for the £5.50 charge, and was told I would have to pay extra for bread. I personally find it peculiar to not serve crackers or bread with such a dish, and when I complained, the response was that no one else had an issue before. Customer service failure. The food was average, portions mean, atmosphere sterile. Best avoided. read more

Our last supper in London was here... We were going to eat at Scarsdale again but they were completely booked. We wandered a few minutes and stumbled upon this place! Great little find. The server was super friendly, cute, and recommended some great beers for my dad and I and my mom enjoyed her wine. After chatting it up with the guy he told us that they had just re-opened after a remodel. It looked good. A mix of lounge and wooden pub style booths. I have since learned that many of the traditional pubs are undergoing a "gastro" makeover. Despite the change, we thought that we should have fish and chips our last night. Good for families or finishing of some work over a pint or two. Don't bother with the pork belly because like so many other modern places they really on a modern steam oven and grill which just creates a grotty type of crispy chewing gum, meat accoutrement. read more

And they say the English have terrible food! On the contrary, this was one of the most interesting and satisfying meals I have had in a while! Don't be deceived by the pub atmosphere. The food here is top. I especially recommend the scotch egg, which comes out as big as an ostrich egg and makes for a very generous starter. The crispy "shell", the savory, seasoned sausage, and the perfectly runny egg are to die for. As a main I ordered the smoked mackerel with chorizo, with big flavors to match the big portion. If I could give six stars, based on the food and the service I would do so without hesitation. The Hansom Cab has excellent food, infinitely better than typical pub grub. We dined at the Hansom Cab two nights in a row. The first night we went there because it was a block from our vacation rental flat. The second night we went back because of the great food - some of the best I have had in the U K. The first night my wife and I had dinner with our daughter, son-in-law, and their two young children. My wife and I started with an appetizer of salt and pepper squid which was nicely done. We followed that by both ordering the nightly special which was slow cooked pork belly served with mashed potatoes, braised red cabbage, sausage, and cauliflower with cheese. It was all excellent. The pork belly was nice and juicy with a crisp skin and the cabbage had just the right tang. My wife doesn't eat potatoes so she substituted a green salad which was loaded with avocados and baby spinach and served with an excellent vinaigrette. Our daughter and her husband both ordered the steak pie - a pub standard - which is often mediocre at best. The Hansom Cab version has excellent beef cooked to falling apart tenderness in a umami loaded sauce. The pie crust itself was extremely tender and flaky. The kids had hamburgers which were large and served with excellent frites. The server and host were extremely friendly and helpful and appreciated our business. The following night my wife and I returned on our own without the rest of the family. We both had the pan fried hake served over a sort of cassoulet. I wouldn't have thought of combining fish with beans and sausage but this was a great pairing and we practically licked our plates to get the last of the sauce. We had a different server but the service was again friendly and efficient. Hansom Cab has a nice selection of beers and a reasonable wine list for a pub. I don't know anything about the chef but she or he has real talent. I wish the Hansom Cab was located in my neighborhood in the States. read more

I've been staying in Kensington for Business off and on for several months now and have gotten to know the local food scene a bit. I appreciate a good pub meal, and unfortunately, a bad pub meal. First off, the Hansom Cab feels like a cross between a comfy bistro and a pub. Very open and light. Service was just right - pleasant and welcoming. The menu was a delight - light fare straight through to a well described steak. I tried the main course 'super food' quinoa salad with chicken. Super fresh, wonderful arrangement of chick peas, spinach, sautéed squash, etc with a light dressing. All fresh and perky. Pub food? More like good food! I'll be back with friends. read more

After a rousing few hours at the Famous Three Kings watching Wales overcome Italy (in rugby, rather than land or politics) we wandered down Talgarth Road to enjoy a quite one and to savour the highlights of the past few hours. We strolled into the Hansom Cab which was a far cry from the atmosphere at the F3K. There were only a few punters, it was calm and quiet and there were only a couple of small screens showing the Scotland V England match. It was ideal for us to sit down and unwind after the madness of being rammed in with inumerable Welsh people in strong voice. We relaxed. Read the newspaper. Doodled on an envelope. Said things like, Triple Crown? Yes please. That tackle Tremendous effort. Broody. Owain had a steak sandwich. We watched England fritter away any credulity as a rugby nation as they lost to a determined Scotland. A great day. GATLAND! read more

Good selection of beers, it's far enough away from offices and the tube stations to ever be too busy at lunch time - though it has been known on the occasional Friday night. The food is served promptly and with a smile, it's good value for money. I wouldn't recommend a long trek here, but if you happen to be in the area it's worth a visit. read more

A lovely pub between Earl's Court and Kensington, but why the hell is it so empty? After paying it another visit last week I think I might have figured it out: the food. My 'medium/rare' steak was by far the most well-done steak I'd ever eaten and our 'apple crumbles' were basically bowls of baby apple food with biscuits broken on top. I know I should've sent the steak back but we were there for drinks and a catch-up more than the food, and we were getting 50% off with out TasteCards so I didn't want to take the piss. It's a shame because it's a great location and the interior is really nice. Don't go there if you're expecting a slap-up dinner, but for drinks and a decent pub quiz it's worth a visit once in a while. read more

This pub is a great little find. Off the beaten path from Earls Court Rd, it has never been too busy to sit down and have a quiet drink whenever I've been to this establishment. As my parents have stayed in the local area when visiting it has been a nice place to retreat to afterwards for that calming glass of wine. I was recently in London, staying at a nearby hotel. A friend said she had seen a recommendation for this pub, so we had dinner there one night. I had had a disappointing dinner of fish & chips elsewhere and was looking for some good fish & chips. Theirs is fantastic. The whole meal was delicious and reasonably priced. After my friend returned to the US I went back to this pub for Sunday Roast and was not disappointed. Again a great traditional English dish prepared well. I asked for the Roast to be medium rare & it was. All the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Roasted potatoes AND some mashed as well. Parsnips & carrots & Yorkshire Pudding. Just a grand meal. So glad I returned. I highly recommend the food. You will be pleased by the staff as well. Both my servers were welcoming & friendly. Tried this pub on a recommendation from the owner of the house we rented in Earls Court Gardens. The food was delicious: sweet chili chicken, chicken and leek pie, fish & chips, and the charcuterie platter. All of the food was proper temperature and delicious.
