Devonshire Arms was only a 5 minute walk from the hotel I was staying at (Park City Grand Plaza Kensington), so I ended up coming here three times. The first two times were just for a couple pints of beer, then on my third visit, I tried multiple items from the dining menu. The restaurant itself is modern and cozy on the inside with a beautiful dining area outside surrounded by greenery. Remember to order at the counter instead of waiting for the waitress to come around! The service was well paced and each waitress was welcoming and attentive. While I enjoyed my beers, I ordered the charcuterie board, the miso glazed chicken skewers, and finished it off with the sticky toffee pudding. My favorite item was the chicken skewers because it was perfectly rationed for one person. I had trouble finishing the charcuterie board, but that doesn't mean it wasn't delicious! I do have to say that it gets very busy here, so try to come by before peak hours. They also strictly close at 10pm because it's directly located in a neighborhood. read more

I was meeting a friend for dinner and we had a nice outside table reserved. I was excited because the staff was really nice inside and while waiting for my friend I was taking in the vibe and people watching. We were seated outside and ordered a pint each and then waited and waited until we were told they do not take order outside anymore. This was after 40 minutes wait so that was a huge negative because the outdoor staff was not as friendly no knowledgeable. The 2nd star off was for the Smoking (smoke) coming directly form 2 tables it was horrible. Why would you ruing a patio setting with smokers and not have an area in front of the restaurant. Friday night was fried chicken night. One of Katie B's friends had said the southern style fried chicken was great at this pub, so 11 of us turned up to test it out As it was a cold and rainy night in December, it was busy inside the pub with a strange mix of clientele ranging from the really rather posh to others who were already severely inebriated when we arrived for dinner at 7.30. There's no real segregation between the bar and restaurant areas Our table was reserved but there was a group sitting on it when we got there. It was quite neat to see it served in a fryer basket. They were generous with each order consisting of half a chicken. Brining had left the chicken moist - even my breast wasn't too dried out. The batter was nicely flavoured though I thought that being buttermilk fried, the batter layer would be thicker but it was good, especially for London. Having not been out in the Kensington area before I was intrigued to see what their local watering holes were like. Following a great recommendation from a friend, I thought I'd check it out. The pub had a decent sized beer garden and was quite large on the inside. Selling a range of craft bears and spirits, they also did food. Rarely have I ever looked at a menu and wanted every single thing on it! Handmade scotch egg, sweet chilli squid, salted peppers, brisket, chips and gravy - need I say more? Why not try their deal on starters? Three plates for £14 or five plates for £21.50. It's a great deal, ideal for sharing when you're a bit peckish. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was great. Katie B gave us the scoop from her American friend that some best fried chicken was tucked away at Devonshire Arms, so to welcome back Jules H back for the holidays, we booked a table for 13 on busy Friday night for some good 'ol fried chicken! First, the pub is BUSY, and as several have mentioned in their reviews, it looks like a fun happenin place, and it is! The rest of the menu offerings look really good and very reasonably priced for what it is. I ended up ordering the salt and pepper calamari with lime mayo (£6), the mac n cheese (£3), and fried chicken (£14). I didn't care much for the calamari - fried nicely, but I didn't sense much salt or pepper, and the mayo was just mayo, no kick to it. The fried chicken actually came with a pickle dip, and it was really good - I think if they paired it with the calamari, it would have been so much better! But it was just a boring (but good value) dish. The mac n cheese is a good sized side dish, and I think its one of the best mac n cheese dishes I've had in this city, especially at £3! Onto the main course, the fried chicken! My chicken arrived in a little fryer basket, on a wooden serving board, with a little bucket of fries, pickled dip, and some apple cole slaw. Loved the presentation! There were 4-5 generous sized pieces of chicken, and it was crispy on the outside, but just warm on the inside. We did place 8-9 orders, so I'm sure that the kitchen was probably a bit weighed down, and took a while before everyone at the table could be served at once. The apple slaw was delicious! I love having a good side of slaw, and never been able to find anything remotely decent in this city (either too much mayo, or not salty enough, or not enough of a kick.. just boring and bland). I probably would have ordered it as a side if it didn't come with my chicken! The chicken itself was juicy. I started off with the thigh pieces, and I gobbled them all up pretty quickly. I couldn't finish off the breast (and its my least fav piece anyway). Andrew M said that it was alright, a bit dry - but I think thats usually the case with breast meat anyway. Katie asked me whats the best fried chicken I've ever had, and I couldn't give an answer because I don't normally eat fried chicken, and I haven't sampled much in this city. In short, yes, its definitely delicious, great value, loved the slaw and the pickle dip, great presentation in a good atmosphere. Nice pub, liked the cozy interior, but the food was a bit lackluster, much like the service. Granted, they were quite busy and there appeared to be only 2 or 3 people running the place. But I didn't get any warm fuzzies here. The menus themselves (which are printed daily and dated) were impossible to read, as if their printer was running out of ink. They were so bad that we had to ask for another (a nearby table did the same). On top of that, they were out of several things, including two of the entrees my husband had his eye on. Apparently they were in the process of phasing out their old offerings. My husband settled for the half chicken, while I opted for the fish 'n' chips. Nothing spectacular as far as pub food goes. Last time I was in London for 10 days, I discovered this wonderful pub as I was staying just around the corner. We all loved this pub so much that we went by almost everynight. Interesting selection of beers, including belgian ales (and oddly enough, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which through my Dad for a loop). Everyone working there was friendly, and some even got to know us as they discovered we were repeat customers for our entire trip. The inside is very cozy and the food is great. Loved the lively atmosphere! Dropped by for dinner with my wife, daughter, son-in-law, 7 year old grandson, and 4 year old granddaughter. The informality of pubs is great for kids and this is a nice upscale establishment. We ordered bangers and mash, steak and cheddar pie, and burgers. Everything was very good except for the chips ( aka frites or French fries for us non Brits). Usually this national dish is excellent but these were a bit soggy. I had a very nice dry cider, my wife had a Merlot, and the other adults had craft style beers. Atmosphere was very nice. I always enjoy pubs in the UK. We can't seem to do them in the USA. Service was friendly and pleasant. We will return as we have a flat rented nearby for two weeks. read more

NEVER have I been here and not had a blast. This is the best pub in London for me, hands down, and I've been there with practically everyone I love as a result. It's always a gamble as to whether it'll be packed or comfortably busy, but either way, it's never uncomfortable. There's a great sized terrace out front, loads of seating inside, and beautiful food. On Sunday, my fiance and I decided to push ourselves a little and have a little meander outside of our Notting Hill comfort zone. After a while, we decided that we'd had enough walking and gratefully headed into the first nice pub we saw. Thankfully, that pub was the Devonshire Arms. We started off with coffees and the (absolutely lovely) warmed brownie with vanilla ice cream and then decided we wanted to stay there for dinner. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, as I really wanted to try the Bloody Mary ketchup and Mark ordered the beef roast dinner. Overall verdict? Not bad at all. The roast dinner was huge and was served with mash, roasties, kale, carrots and horseradish sauce. I thought the beef could've been better seasoned, but I think I just have a thing about really well-seasoned food, as Mark disagreed with me and thought his food was great. My burger was nice and a good size. I was looking forward to the Bloody Mary ketchup, but didn't really like it in the end as it tasted slightly 'off'. We're moving from Kensington to Fulham in a few weeks, and this is the place I'm going to miss most. I'm realizing that we didn't take full advantage of it in our 6 months here, but I'll chalk part of that up to my wife being pregnant. Great selection of cask ales, Euro-fizz beers, ciders and even Sierra Nevada on tap for homesick Californians such as myself, although personally I still prefer a good warm, flat English ale to Sierra any day. The Devonshire has a diverse selection of draught beers - real ales, ciders, global lagers, Belgian beers and even Old Rosie Scrumpy - and there's plenty of cosy tables to take your booze back to. The Dev has a beer garden too, along Marloes Rd, for those few days in London when its sunny and dry. All of this greatness is then just a little bit ruined by the Sloane Set regulars, with chillers of Pinot placed to reserve their tables, cravats and blazers on 30 somethings and more air-kissing than a Moonies wedding on a plane. read more

Definitely one of the better pubs I've been to around London. It has a slightly more modern feel though, which is certainly reflected in the choice of background music (i.e. annoying club/dance music). I don't really fancy the atmosphere, but certainly the food & selection of drinks are great. And unlike the gastropubs around Holland Park, Devonshire Arms is not too outrageously priced. Even if it errs on the slightly expensive side, the food does not disappoint. There is a small outdoor area in front of the restaurant, which is brilliant on a nice day.
