Fabulous meal! We had the fish and chips, salt pepper squid, pea and mint soup and wine. The soup was my favorite - just delicious. I really want the recipe for my deli in the states it was that good. Fish was cooked perfectly either way a nice side of starter sauce. The charred lemon is a nice touch. Located near Kensington Palace, Goat Tavern is a classic British pub with fish and chips and cider on tap. Built in 1695 by a local parish to help raise money for education and to support the poor, its legacy continues today. Walking in for dinner on a July Saturday around 7 p.m., we got a table right away. Ordering at the bar and laying up front, we got cider on tap, mac and cheese with bacon, and fish and chips. We had So much fun at The Goat Tavern. We stopped in after exploring Kensington Gardens. It was warm outside and the tavern Air Conditioning was a welcome relief . The decor is so cute, and I loved the history of this tavern. Had a lovely Sunday evening here. The place wasn't terribly busy and seating was easy to locate. Oddly, one orders their meals at the bar. The bartender was efficient and quick. I first ordered a banana Manhattan, which was fine (I can't get over the adding of soda water into a Manhattan in London). I also ordered the steak and ale pie with mash and a pint of Flint Eye. The pie was really tasty; the crust was flakey and the filling was rich. The additional gravy was a little heavy on either the soy sauce or Worcestershire but added a nice saltiness to the mash and small piece of cabbage--more cabbage would have been nice. I also got the sticky toffee pudding (I was certainly cramming it in now). The pudding was quite caramel/toffee flavored and moist as can be. I could have used a bit more treacle. That treacle funk gives the pudding its distinctive complexity, which is usually cooled by the cream. I still gladly devoured it all. In the end, it was a quiet place that, while not a hole-in-the-wall British pub, gave me exactly what I wanted: good food, leather seating, and a proper pint! read more

Voted one of the oldest and best fish and chips in the city, we just HAD to stop! Great collection of cider (I had a strawberry lime and loved it!), as well as a nice view of the Kensington Gardens across the street. The food was a-okay, but definitely nothing special. Fish and chips were fine, and the cheese, bread and onion jam was also just decent. Atmosphere: apparently this pub has been here for 300 years with this same name! It is a classic English tavern with British decor and a dimly lit velvet golden royal pub aesthetic. Food: well priced sharables. We got the teams shareable and veggie shareable with both offered a variety of good bites. I focused on the veggie shareables with beyond burger sliders that hit the spot and all the fixins. The fried halloumi was my first time having halloumi but it was a delight!! My mom and I had dinner here as it was right near our hotel and we wanted something casual. This is a typical British Pub with lots of dark wood, TVs for sports and decent food and drink. You actually order food at the bar which is not clearly stated but we figured it out. My mom had the UK version of a grilled cheese sandwich. It had mayo or something like that on it so it was not her favorite grilled cheese but she said it was not bad. The fries were good. I had traditional fish and chips. The fish was nicely cooked, not too greasy, flaky white fish. Good fries. Not sure why people like mushy peas so I did not eat those. But I guess people like them. The oldest tavern in Kensington is located across the street from Kensington Place and gardens. Located in a busy section in Kensington, allowing you to do some great people watching. I ordered the fish and chips along with the baked Camembert. Omg the portions are huge! I would have passed on the appetizer if I knew I was getting a whole fish. Both items we very yummy. Of course I had to top it off with a passion fruit cider. Pub life allows you to pick your table and then order at the bar. Your food will be delivered to your table. Super cute place. The first beer I got at the bar had a black hair on top (I have blonde hair).I'm not sure how that's even possible because you order at the bar and they directly hand it to you. Sure stuff happens so I moved on. They proceeded to forget most of the food then to tell me they were out after the rest of the table got all of their food. Near many bus stops and the entrance to Kensington palace this location is very convenient. The food: great pub classics perfect for any visitor. We came on a Sunday and couldn't resist the roast special. Great plate - we were stuffed! Also had the Big Ben burger - and wow so good! Perfectly seasoned. But the best part? We really enjoy The Goat. We have been a couple times now and enjoy the consistent Fish N Chips. Oldest Pub in Kensington but highly updated. You still order at the bar which is fun. If you are with tourist friends it is directly across from Kensington Palace so nice and convenient. Right down the street from the High Street Tube is nice as well. read more

Saw this tavern when we got off the bus to visit Kensington Palace and decided to stop there on the way back. It was our last night in London. I ordered the bangers and mash (as I usually do) and it was very good. Good service as well. We had eaten at another pub our first night (I can't recall the name but it was not the same as this place) and we're surprised to find the menu was the same so the Great British Pubs must have several restaurants with various names was all I could guess. Another thing we had discovered in London was at many restaurants, you ordered first and then sat down and are continued to be waited on after your food arrives. WARNING! If you eat here, keep your possessions close to you, especially your phone. For the record, the food is good, I enjoyed my fish and chips. But the staff did nothing to keep a homeless woman out of the restaurant. This woman stole my phone and it turns out she also stole another patron's phone a few hours earlier. The staff seemed pretty indifferent about the whole experience. The only thing they said was they couldn't share CCTV footage by law. It was almost like they're used to this happening and knew that was the first thing they had to say. This restaurant needs to enact a better policy to prevent theft like this from occurring in the future. I'd hate any more customers to have their phones stolen. read more

You must book if you want a table before the theater or Saturday night. But with all the little bits, the ultimate fish and chips are so good - just like one imagines they should be in the UK. MY daughter and I love this place! The food is excellent and the staff are VERY friendly. We found this place the first day we arrived in London on a week vacation. We like this place so much we have been back every night. Sadly we fly out tomorrow and I am already missing the place and its people. Torn on this review. Again, I hate that all of these old british pubs have been commercialized and all have the same menu. It really takes away from the charm. On the outside, it looks like a traditional pub, but on the inside, it feels like a chain restaurant. They made us order all of our food and drinks at the bar, they didn't seem to really have a wait staff. The bartender was super friendly though and I enjoyed talking to him. I had the fish and chips, the same fish and chips I had the day before at another pub in a totally different neighborhood and it was good. Overall, the pub is cute, had comfy seating, and the bartenders are great, I just can't get used to the same menu everywhere I go and I wish they served more authentic food. read more

Only just dropped by after the Proms as it is pretty close to the Royal Albert Hall and our bus stop. Nice comfy place to have a pint, can get quite crowded around the bar which makes it difficult to get through to the toilets which are way in the back. Do not order the Fish and Chips. Huge, undercooked slightly wet fish wit a gluey batter. My husband picked out some of the fish from the batter but I could not eat any of it.
