Classic British pub! I had fish and chips w/ peas and a side of Yorkshire pudding . Servers were super friendly and provided a great vibe.

After Gayle and I took our fabulous tour of the Tower of London, our guide (James) recommended Hung Drawn & Quartered for a late pub lunch. We also appreciated the name considering where we had just visited. The place was packed when we arrived, but only about a 10 minute wait was necessary. We were seated at a nice table and experienced pleasant and quick service. We appreciated the dark woods and the "Old London City" experience. Today's choices were Halloumi Fries (think mozzarella sticks). Steak and Ale Pie (Gayle), a fish sandwich for me, and a couple of pints to round out the experience. This is not fine dining, but for what we experienced for "pub grub", expectations were easily met.

Hung Drawn and Quartered was our first English pub and we weren't disappointed. It was filled with folks ending their busy day, enjoying a pint before heading home. The atmosphere was lively and the restaurant was bustling with activity. The food was delicious, unfortunately it was 4p and they were already out of several of the menu items we attempted to order. I'm not sure if we were in between sittings and if that was the cause, but it was a little disappointing. What we did order, was delicious and fresh. The pie was flaky and full of flavor and the sides complimented the dish well. I don't love mashed potatoes so I opted for the fries. I know, it's not traditional, but it worked. My daughter ordered a Caesar salad and she said it was one of the better she's had (it's one of her go to meals). We tried our first scotch egg. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was good. The yolk was a gorgeous color and wonderfully creamy. They don't do takeaway so order what you can eat in the moment. We'll just have to try sticky toffee pudding another day. :)

One of the best burgers I've ever had. This pub has an inviting comfortable vibe and the service is amazing. If you're in the area looking for a quick bite or just a pint, give this spot a try, you won't regret it. Cheers!

Loved the meat pie sampler platter, great cauliflower truffle cheese, tried scotch eggs for the first time and they did not disappoint! You have to wave down servers when you are ready but they are friendly and efficient Love the pub vibe.

This will be our first meal in London as a special request to a friend to dine here and bring him a Tee Shirt. I have been in contact with the Manager, Abi. They don't have a clothing line but he offered a beer glass with logo as a alternate idea. Sounds good. Maybe I ll get two. Update on arrival.

Europe 2023 - London F.A.S.T Review Long day visiting sites, this is a must visit. Food: Lots of great English faire, we did a Yorkshire Pudding as an appetizer & Bruschetta. Both tasted amazing, I just wish the Bruschetta came on smaller pieces of toast, but it was amazing. The Little Victories IPA was great, the London Pride is worth a try. The Beef Pie was outstanding, the Lamb steak was a bit fatty, but tastes great. the sticky cake was a great way to end the meal. Atmosphere: Great Pub Vibe just a block w at from the Tower of London. Service: Felt a bit rushed, but it was the end of the day and our server was itching to get away and he did disappear before we were done. Tips: maybe get there a little earlier than 9, end with the sticky cake.

Perfect place to eat after a day of walking at the Tower of London. Me and my fiancé got the shared pie platter and it was delicious. The service was wonderful. Perfect way to end the day.

This place came highly recommended, so we were excited to check it out. We went for lunch and it was fine. But it didn't blow us away. We had the sampler platter of pies and the sampler platter of meats and cheeses. The kids have the burgers, and we also tried the fisherman's pie. The food was fine, but didn't particularly blow us away. The service was not great. We had to chase people down just to get refills on water. I think you can have a perfectly reasonable meal here, but probably not the best.

Service was great and staff was polite. The food was also great. I didn't care for the backless stool but the waiter swap chairs for me. I'd definitely return for a visit whenever I'm back in London.

Enjoyed a pint of Frontier beer, a glass of Malbec and some shared plates. Nice ambiance in a classic London pub. Their Cumberland sausage was served sliced and in a tasty mustard seasoned sauce. Their Mac n cheese was also delicious.

Just outside the Tower of London we found a wonderful, traditional English pub! Not knowing which meat pie to order, we chose the shareable pie platter...so yummy! The staff were very friendly and helpful. And the atmosphere was everything you would imagine an English pub would be!!

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

But, the chaos I walked into on a Sunday has ensured that I never walk into a crowded pub like this again. It took almost 15 minutes to flag down one of the servers to ask about getting a table, to which I was told, "If you see a spot, grab it." As soon as I saw a couple get up I threw my stuff down- hoping it wouldn't get stolen- and went to order at the bar. That took another 5 minutes. Given how crowded it was, I ended up having to share my table with 4 other people; which wasn't bad, until I ended up getting my food more than 15 minutes after I'd ordered it, and then realized I was the only one eating at a table full of strangers. The food itself wasn't bad, but for a pub that claims to have the best Sunday Roast in London, it certainly didn't compare to those that don't claim that and are less of a hassle to eat in. And at £17 a pop, you can bet the experience wasn't worth it for some chicken and Yorkshire pudding.

The best description of it I can make is that it was that someone poured a bag of tortilla chips onto a plate, squeezed some awful American-style runny cheese over it all, then put some ready-made shop-bought guacamole on one end, what looked like ketchup but was salsa on the other end, and then the largest dollop of sour cream (almost tasted like fresh whipped cream somehow) in the middle. There was no attempts to layer anything. It was served on a baking tray which I can't really explain seeing as it was all completely cold. And they cost £12.50 which, tbh, is a disgrace. They were unfortunate to say the least. I should have sent them back but I was so hungry that I tried to make the most of it. Unrelated, but the bar staff were lovely, I'm sorry I had to give a bad review based off the food.

The place is old and run down, just like almost everywhere in this little pocket of East London, but rather then struggle against this handicap the pub has perservered and shone through as a local boozer where everyone knows one anothers name... and an outsider isn't always welcome. I ignored the alarms going off inside my head as I took my seat, watched beadily by about 10 locals all sitting at the bar swearing at each other. I was in their end now, so I have to be careful... The bartender however could not have been nicer, even when I was just sitting in there to watch the cricket (I came back later for a pint as homage to this good service.) The TV is projected (sports) onto a big screen and Led Zeppelin/David Bowie screams in the background.. awesome. Finally, last week, whilst waiting in the arctic London temperatures, I decided it was better for both my body and spirit to wait inside. So into the Salmon & Ball I went. And it was rather pleasant. A traditional East-London boozer with the usual smattering of cool boys and old men that look like they've been glued to their bar stools since the late 60s. Bar staff were really friendly and my pint was ice cold, so no complaints here. A far better alternative than standing on the street!
