I had a great experience with Jamila. I called right before I wanted to go to Jamila's to make sure she was available. The whole threading experience was pleasant and fast. After she finished with the threading, she cleaned me up and let me check to make sure I was happy with what she did. I was! She really understands eyebrows and how to best work with what you have and is open to your critiques. I was a little worried about one strand of hair, but she explained that if she plucked it, my eyebrows would look uneven. Talk about detail! I also got my eyebrows tinted for the first time. Jamila said it only tints the hair and lasts for about a week. My eyebrows now look much fuller. I'm glad she suggested it and had an overall great experience! read more

Good threading experience here. My barber wacked up my eyebrows so I'm still recovering. She did an excellent job of shaping them for the time being. She also gave me a complimentary brow tint which I will continue to do on my own. Only thing - she has her own products and seems to peddle them on you from the door... I'm a sap, so I bought a brow oil. Hopefully the eyebrow growth oil will help. She also has lash growth oil. After some probing, she said they had pretty much the same ingredients, but that the consistency of the brow oil is a bit thicker. But you can apply the brow oil to the lashes as well as the brows and save another $15. I did not but the henna packets for brow tinting she tried to sell though. You can get henna much cheaper on Amazon. read more

The first time I came to this salon I was very happy with the results of my brows. She looked at them very closely before even touching them and asked me what I wanted before starting. She did a great job of cleaning them up and I was ready to come back for a second visit; however, that did not go so well. When I went for a second time, I left just as happy. But the next morning I noticed that I had severely broken out between my eyebrows and on top of my eyebrows. Just for the record--I never break out. This does not mean like small breakouts... the whole area was covering in whiteheads! After reflecting on the appointment, I realized she used a kabuki brush on my brows before threading them, and I think that's what broke me out. This is not acceptable and it's a shame that such a talented shaper can not maintain salon cleanliness. read more

I just moved to Austin (I know, I know, sorry) and was surprised to see that there isn't a threading salon on every corner, like I was used to when I lived in NY and Chicago. She returned my call shortly after opening and confirmed that she was pretty slow as long as I could get in before 1:00pm. There were two clients before me, and I only waited about ten minutes before Jamila directed me back to her room. She was kind, quick, and very professional. She showed me the first brow before continuing and I was thrilled (I was long overdue). She continued to the second and we were done within 5 minutes. I have had my eyebrows, lip and chin threaded by Jamila for more than 4 years. I love it! Jamila is an artist--she makes my eyebrows look amazing and the hair removal, though a little painful, does not make me break out like waxing does. I used to get it waxed--much more expensive, painful and the breakout was horrible. Two years ago I had to take care of my sister out of town for 5 weeks. I had to have my lip and chin threaded, but wouldn't let anyone else touch my eyebrows. I'm horrible at making appointments so I love that I can walk in and she fits me in. Jamila is amazing! She really understands how to work with your natural arch and helps you understand how to stop micromanaging your eyebrows/overpluck. I have sensitive skin that can't handle wax and Jamila makes threading relatively painless. She's also really affordable ($12 if you pay by cash) compared to most froufrou threading places that have popped up in Austin. I also think she's much more flexible as I can usually just walk in. Selected Jamila because she came up as #1 on Yelp. She definitely deserves it. She shares a space with a few women who cut hair, but she has her own little room. I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a walk in and then I'm usually out of there within another 10. Threading hurts, but she does her best to make it a quick process. I've been coming to Jamila for over seven years, after having had a bad experience with an eyebrow waxing that took off a lot of skin and left me in pain and looking like I was 1/2 completely shocked all the time and 1/2 heroin addict for weeks. There are no chemicals or heat involved in threading, and it's fast and easy. Jamila is precise, efficient, and reliable. It's not painless -- if anyone ever tells you that ripping hair out from the root is completely pain-free without anesthetics or drugs, they're full of covfefe -- but it's easily tolerable and over in minutes, with excellent results. The henna dye she uses to darken brows also works very well: It matches my hair, was done in 2 minutes, and should last for a week or so, perfect for a special occasion. read more

Oh man, this place was a huge disappointment, and an expensive one at that. My eyebrows looked maybe 10% better than when I walked in, as opposed to the total improvement I'm used to with threading. They barely trimmed longer hairs, so even freshly threaded, my brows still looked scraggly. The total price was $27, when eyebrow threading places I've used in Atlanta were more in the $9-11 range with much better results. I will give it two stars only because the place was nice and there was no wait, but still looking for a decent place for eyebrows in austin. read more

No! NO! i asked to clean up the strays for my eye brows and i felt that maybe she cleaned up a little more than i asked; i wasnt too picky about this though and I assume she knows eyebrows best. I asked to get my upper lip done. It was a horrible job. While i couldn't tell in the salon, when i checked in my car later, i noticed strands of hair all around. Normally, i wouldn't think much of it especially because other places i go to only charge a few dollars for it and the worst case i experienced was I would just have to pick off a few strands on my own. This is by far the worst experience as there were lots of hair strands everywhere which i cant pick off all on my own. This place is pricey and you would expect quality service for the price being paid. Really disappointed. read more

She also accepts walk-ins!! My eyebrows turned out great, not too thin. She is definitely an expert on shaping your eyebrows according to your face. She will not just make them thin like some places do, thinking that looks great on everyone. I also tried eyebrow tinting for the first time. She uses an all natural product to tint your eyebrows, and also tinted them the perfect shade, not too noticeably dark.
