Do not misunderstand me: Jamila does fantastic work. Her threading skills are unmatched. My brows always come out clean, perfectly shaped, and camera-ready if they ever have to be. If this review were based on skill alone, she'd get five stars hands down. But for the part that makes me write an update and removes me from giving her 5 stars: Jamila cannot stop upselling. Every visit turns into a small negotiation. She'll pitch you every service and skin treatment under the sun even after you've politely declined, most times twice or three times before giving up. She doesn't take a hint, verbal or otherwise. She also tends to "forget" returning clients when it's time to charge. The first-time brow price is $15, and the upkeep price is $13. But if you don't remind her that you are a RETURNING CUSTOMER, she'll happily start from scratch on what you owe her. I shouldn't have to keep track of my own loyalty discount, but here we are. The many times I've visited, to pretend like she doesn't remember me is annoying. Get punch cards or SOMETHING so you'll stop doing this to customers. To be fair, she's not mean-spirited...she's just a relentless hustler. I get it, we're all trying to survive. But there's a fine line between being ambitious and making your clients feel like walking wallets. Your work is good enough to speak for itself. You don't need to chase every dollar. Let your service do the talking. Let clients come to YOU with their needs instead of you pushing off onto them what they should have. No one should feel obligated to pay for services they simply do not want and you pointing out flaws is not the answer. Sorry. Until I find someone as talented (and a little less pushy), I'll keep coming back... but girl, please, just do the work requested and let customers breathe. Four stars. read more

My brows were threaded and given a great shape in under 10 min with very minimal pain. The process was so much quicker and less uncomfortable than I've ever experienced. Today I went in for a threading and she was able to fit me in for an hour long hydrating facial as well. It was such a lovely treat to splurge on my skin after threading. Where has threading been all of my life? I'd heard of this magical skill but had never had it done... until today. My brows were groucho marx style - errant hair everywhere. They were creeping together and trying to reunite with my hairline. I had this groupon from Jamila but just hadnt gotten around to using it. The groupon was for conditioning, tinting and shaping, i needed those pesky hairs gone quickly. Jamila was so kind -- she let me use my groupon for the other services then threaded my brows -- all while i was taking a surprise conference call. She was so kind and accommodating as I was being basically the rudest customer ever with my headphones in getting jabbered at. That threading thing -- kind of painful but also kind of awesome. This thread whisks around your face, zinging and zipping and apparently ripping out hair. It's totally weird but also totally cool. The whole process took about 10 minutes and I was out the door. She warned me that waxing can lead to droopy eyelids. Apparently you pull that stuff off enough times it will stretch out your skin. 10 minutes + $12 + Jamila's expertise = great brows. read more

Saw the reviews for this place and thought it would be the solution to my problem. I came in here looking for a long term eyebrow lady. Someone who would know what I wanted and would help me achieve that. What I got was someone who rushed me in, rushed me out, and basically thought she knew what I wanted. I tried explaining to her the shape I wanted and the problem I was having. She hardly listened, told me to just sit down, and she ended up threading them exactly the way I didn't want. I came here because of the reviews. Well my mistake! This lady started to do my eyebrows. She gave me a mirror to show it too me and 1/3 of the left one was missing. When I told her, she was saying yes yes. She had no idea of what I was telling her!!!! She asked the owner to come. She finished the right one and said that the mistake was due to the shape of my eyebrows. Well sorry I didn't know that I had to have a special shape of eyebrows to come to this place!!! Jamila was extremely nice but I wasn't impressed with the shape she gave me. I also had my chin and upper lip threaded, the total was $30. I was a bit shocked as the prices in Houston are a bit more competitive, but I figured that I would be satisfied once I gave myself a good lookin' over. Well I wasn't. Jamila left hair on my chin and on the sides of my lip. I have maybe 8 strands of hair on my chin, total, and a few blonde fuzzies on the sides of my lip and half of the hair on my chin was still there and I could still see a few fuzzies in my rearview mirror. Back in 2007 or 2008-ish, I moved to Austin from Las Vegas. In Vegas, threading is everywhere. Here?...not so much. After some online searching, I found Jamila and was THRILLED! When I moved back home to Vegas, my go-to gal couldn't even compare anymore. So now that I am living back in Austin, I was again THRILLED to go to Jamila. Now, I can't lie... threading hurts. So does waxing. So does tweezing. But with threading, it's over faster than when waxing or tweezing. And with threading, Jamila can be much more precise than even the most skilled waxer. I want to add something, though... the kind if thread used matters. It does. I'm sure Jamila could tell us why, but some people use thread that doesn't really glide over the skin like it should. Maybe it's cheap? Jamila's thread is great, though. And when you go (AND YOU HAD BETTER GO!), don't lie to her when she asks you if you tweezed. Today, I said "No," because I had been growing them out for her to shape. But she looked at them for a second and was like, "Nuh uh." She showed me how there was a fractional difference from one eyebrow to the other... and she was right! I had totally forgotten that I HAD indeed plucked just a hair or two from one little spot because they were sticking out funny. So she'll know. Don't try and fool the master! ;-) Oh! And she has this sign in the waiting room that says treading your brows is like an "instant facelift." FOR REALS, THO! It changes your whole face. For the better. I had a great experience with Jamila. I called right before I wanted to go to Jamila's to make sure she was available. The whole threading experience was pleasant and fast. After she finished with the threading, she cleaned me up and let me check to make sure I was happy with what she did. I was! She really understands eyebrows and how to best work with what you have and is open to your critiques. I was a little worried about one strand of hair, but she explained that if she plucked it, my eyebrows would look uneven. Talk about detail! I also got my eyebrows tinted for the first time.
