Thom Thom is simply the best! I've been several dozen times over the past handful of years, tried just about everything on the menu, and have always had a consistently great experience. Here's the breakdown: 1. ATMOSPHERE and AMBIENCE - clean, comfortable, and spacious. What I love about this place is that you can wear jeans and a t-shirt and sit at the bar and enjoy watching the games on tv, or you can be in business attire or dress up for a date and sit in the main dining room. I also like the fact that there's an option to have a small party on the main level or a larger one upstairs. There's something for everyone, and yet, the whole place is cohesive, welcoming, upscale, yet not pretentious. 2. SERVICE - attentive hosts, waitstaff, and bartenders. Everyone seems to do their job well and with a smile on their face. 3. MENU SELECTION - one of the main reasons I've been back several dozen times...there's plenty of variety! Although the "steak and seafood" caption of Thom Thom is true, it doesn't do the menu justice - the selection has clearly been elevated to boast a wide array of Asian American fusion, and I'm a big fan! Here are my favorites: calamari, lobster mac & cheese (generous portions of lobster chunks), Thai curry mussels, Chef's special roll, Chef's Bento Box, skirt steak, rack of lamb (glorious!), scallops, chilean sea bass (all-time fav), the duck, and for dessert, the molten chocolate lava cake with ice cream. What I'm most impressed by is the fact that the food is prepared and presented with consistent quality - when you find a restaurant that can manage to do this over the yars, it's a big deal! 4. PRICING - I admit that Thom Thom is not cheap. If you are like me and like to do a three-course meal with some drinks, your bill can easily be $50+ per person. However, I find that compared to other restaurant options in the neighboring towns, Thom Thom is well worth the dining experience. I would even go so far as to say it rivals the more upscale Asian American fusion venues in Manhattan, where you'd certainly be spending nearly double the price per person. *TIP #1 - at the bar: Thom Thom has some awesome happy hour specials...you can get some amazing local craft beers and good eats for WOW prices. *TIP #2 - in the main dining area: I'm pleasantly surprised by Thom Thom's wine selection. Started off with walking in from the back and not knowing where to go or where the hostess was. Was greeted by a man with a smile that noticed that we were lost and showed us where to go. He took us to a nice secluded half circle booth where we were greeted again by our joyful server Kelvin. The atmosphere/decor was nice and reminded me of what I would find down south with a hint of Asian with the placement of bamboo pots around. After we looked over the menu and ordered, he came back with our drinks and a "on the house" appetizer of pork dumplings. The dumplings were OK but the sauce is what made us clean off the plate. I ordered the rib-eye(medium) with lobster tail and sweet potatoes with a side of sauteed mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly with a subtle tasteful seasoning. The sauce that I chose for it was a cabernet demi-glaze that worked well with it. The lobster tail was presented nicely and tasted decent. The sweet potatoes and sauteed mushrooms were great. The mushroom portion was generous and had some whole cooked down cloves of garlic that was delicious. Since my side dish was mixed up with my girlfriends, the waiter brought two extra scoops of mash potatoes and sweet potatoes out. I'm glad a went and the food was good. I've been here twice. Both times the food was wonderful for the most part, however the service here is very inconsistent depending on what night you go I guess. On my first visit to Thom Thom I went on a Friday night with my parents. I was a fan of fish let alone sushi at this point. I ordered a caesar salad and a flatbread pizza. The salad was delicious and the flatbread was pretty good as well. My mother order a sushi special which was spicy tuna, with a delicious sauce (which I can't remember what it was) and thin slices of mango on top. It looked so yummy I had to try. First sushi I ever liked. It was delicious. Ever since I've been a big fan of spicy tuna sushi. As I recall we had good to great service. On my second visit I went with my boyfriend for our anniversary on a Wednesday night. We were seated promptly with only 4 other tables being occupied. It was not a busy night. After we got our menus and bread we soon realized our waiter would be the host and not one of the 2 waiters on duty. Ok, no big deal. The host came over asked if we knew what we wanted, the bf said yes, I said no, the host said he'll come back in a bit. 1-2 min later we had made up our minds. We then waited about 10 minutes or more for the host to come back (as if he had any people to seat, there were none). After he finally graced us with his presence we ordered. This time around I was more adventurous. We got the caesar salad, the lobster bisque, the sushi and sashimi dinner and one of the chefs specials, the roasted long island duck breast. The salad was great, the bisque was a little bitter for my taste, the sushi-sashimi was delicious and the duck was to die for, so tender and flavorful. Our waiter, the host never came back, but instead decided to chat and help another table that already had a waiter, and then proceeded to ignore our waves and verbal attempts and went and sat down with 2 morbidly obese men across the dining room and chatted for about 20 minutes. In this time, my boyfriend spilt a drink all over the table, no one even noticed until 15 mins later, and it wasn't the host who came over, but a bus boy. We thanked him and asked for refills and to send our waiter(host) over. 10 mins later we ask another waiter to get our server, another 10 mins we ask another waiter to bring us our check, the host finally comes over to ask how our diner was and brings us the check. My boyfriend was overly generous giving any tip at all which I disagreed with. Some of the worst, if the not the worst service I've ever had. Ruined our special occasion. I returned to a local spot I have always enjoyed on a rainy midweek night. There were no seats at the bar which was fine since it was "date night". Seated in the dining area I could not help but notice that the tables were a bit sticky and the flaps that expand the size were falling in our laps. The pita bread with spicy hummus and tzatziki was a nice beginning treat, warm crispy with wonderful flavor. We were told the humus was homemade & definitely authentic. The crazy tuna roll was pretty good for a restaurant in which sushi is not the main event and I enjoyed the edamame. For the main course my paella was about a seven on a scale of ten having one lone scallop, slightly dry rice & stringy small mussels that should not have been included. Went there early on a Saturday night. Started with cocktails at the bar. The bartender made a perfect martini with attention to details. Since it was quiet we figured we would have drinks and starters at the bar. The Kung Po calamari was very good. Lightly battered not over cooked and the sauce was tasty. It was not in the least bit spicy for what it is worth. The special roll was spicy tuna with avocado topped with white tuna, coconut flakes and a chili sauce. Very fresh and a delicious. Things got busy fast so I got one of the last tables avaialable. You may want to make a reservation if you plan on eating past 6:45. We were in the bar area but it was not overly loud. We ordered the pork osso bucco and the skirt steak. The pork came with gnocchi and was served in a reduced demi that was fantastic. Porky and tender is the fest way to describe the osso bucco. The skirt steak was marinated well, great char, and cooked as ordered. They over a few different sauces. The cabernet demi was outstanding. Plated with mashed potato and some sauteed vegetables. Overall a very nice meal. Slightly more expensive than average for the area but the food is well worth it. Service was an issues for the tables next to us and the host seemed a bit overwhelmed. There was a Seinfeld episode where Jerry rented a car yet the rental car agency didnt have the car when he arrived. Similiarily we had an 8:30pm reservation and yet was seated at 9:45pm. Needless to say we wondered why it appeared that everyone else was being seated but our foursome, yet very much like yet another Seinfeld episode in that took place in a Chinese restaurant........Sushi appetizers were fresh but yet average, paella was missing something, very bland but the seafood was fresh. The skir steakt from the bento box was a little tough, even for flank steak. Our waiter was extremely nice and very attentive. It did appear that they were told to push the alcohol, as my buddy was drinking and my water glass was empty for an hour. Long story short, not going back. Proceed with caution. read more

My wife and I came here Monday night after work for a bite, been here more than a few times. We tried to order a 2013 Pinot Noir, but we were told that the wine list had not been updated so they only had the 2014. We switched up to a 2013 Malbec, no big deal, at least he told us. Not so much with the second bottle we ordered. We tried to order 2013 Red Zinfandel, the waiter brought it to the table, I noticed it was a 2012. I didn't bother saying anything this time, just wasn't worth it. So 2 out of the 3 bottles we ordered were improperly shown on the wine list, and the server decided he didn't want to let us know the second time. Kinda lame. The appetizers, which came out well before any wine did, were above average. My wife had the lobster bisque, I went with the octopus salad. The latter is a good size portion. For entrees she had marinated skirt steak, cooked perfectly, I went with the pork chop, also cooked perfectly. So it seems the kitchen is still doing it's thing. And the pork chop was gigantic, I would definitely recommend it. Ambiance is the same as it's always been, mix of booths and tables, nothing wrong with it. In addition to the wine issue above, there was also an odd exchange between on older Asian woman, and our server. While our server was taking our order, she interrupted and told him that someone needed calamari. At first I thought it was a customer, but then I kept seeing her walk around. This server was essentially by himself in the dining room, all the booths and a few tables were taken, he was obviously doing what he could. This doesn't excuse his failure with the wine, but why would this person think it was a good idea to demand calamari for a table when he was in the middle of talking to us? Every year for restaurant week my wife and I, along with another couple, try a new restaurant. This year we decided on trying Thom Thom and we are pretty happy we did. First, I think you must make reservations, this place was packed. We had 7:30 reservations and didn't get seated to almost 8:30, they have a nice bar, but that was also packed, just give yourself plenty of time if you are dining here. The food was a mix of seafood and steaks and they had some great options on the price fixe menu, but I was told next time to try the Bang Bang shrimp. The food was good as was the service. So, first time... sad to say I will not be back. My wife and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We ordered mojito for me and a sunset martini for the wife. My drink tasted like club soda and sour mix, no muddled mint no alcohol. My wife's drink was more of a water consistency and no kettle one, which we paid for. They came the free hummus and taziky , both dips were full of water. I asked the waiter why is it full of water and he apologized and said it shouldn't be like that. And brought us another one. We both ordered appetizers , wedge for my wife which she liked and I ordered a vegetarian roll. Both were ok, nothing great. I order the rib eye, cooked to perfection the mashed potatoes, which they said are real potatoes. I contest that and the green beans were frozen. My wife got the skirt steak, cooked to perfection. I came here for restaurant week and the overall experience was very good. The atmosphere is nice and the service was top notch. I only had sushi while I was there so just take my word for that part of the menu - the rolls were five star quality! I took a look at the regular menu and it's a bit pricey but you get 8 piece rolls opposed to 6 piece rolls and the difference in quality is noticeable from the first bite. The fancy rolls are creative, flavorful and delicious. Also, the menu is all over the place. This place is definitely as good as it gets! I was in town on business and was looking for a place to take a client. I seen this place on open table and trip advisor and decided to give it a try. I was glad I did. Trip advisor has them listed as the number 2 restaurant in the area along with some great reviews. Open table had some really great reviews for them as well so I couldn't pass it up. I called and made reservations. It was painless and the people were super nice on the phone. I felt good going into this. When I walked in, I noticed two things... the place was very inviting and spotless. I knew I was in for a good evening but I was still blown away by the experience to be honest. The appetizers and sushi were phenomenal. (Get anything you can with duck! It was amazing!) We ordered porter house steaks and they were cooked to the perfect temperature, had a great taste and the sides complimented them well. We were very pleased with the appetizers, main dish and the sides. The lobster bisque was heavenly too. What was even better than the food was the drinks. They had an impressive liquor selection and their wine list was top notch. As if it couldn't get any better, the service was really what will bring me back any and every time I am in town. Hands down, it was some of the best service I have ever experienced and I have been to plenty of steakhouses and fancy restaurants in my time all over the US. Our server's name was Matt. He was friendly, helpful in our food and drink selections by helping make recommendations on sides and pairings and he was just a down to earth guy. He spent some time talking to us about the area and made recommendations of things to see while we were in town. He was very attentive and kept checking on us to make sure we were ok but without being annoying in any way. He was seriously an awesome server and I wish every restaurant had someone like him. We had a wonderful waitress who tour guided us on the few things she liked from the menu. It was my bestfriends birthday, and I wanted to take her somewhere that had the best of both worlds. She loves sushi, and she loves seafood. My bestfriend and I had first a cranberry and vodka (for her) & a Manhattan for me. I then tried the mango martini which was superb. For appetizers we ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was overall good, but I've had better. I'm a foodie so trust me I know what I'm talking about. What I loved about the starters were the samplers, where we got a little bit of everything: calamari, Kung pao shrimp, and the dumplings. For dinner I had the Chilean sea bass which was cooked to perfection. It was accompanied with a sweet potato risotto. I thought it would be a little sweeter, but overall still good with Bok Choy. We had a big party at Thom Thom last night. By all accounts this place should be a 4 star restaurant in my mind. The food was terrific. The atmosphere is very nice. The waiters and manager are great. Only problem is...it took us FOREVER to get our food. They gave us a private room in the back that was great but we did feel a little cramped for our party of 20. The pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge were pretty awesome. It has a new feel to it. The appetizers were good. Specifically the bang bang shrimp and the Calamari...tremendous. For bread they bring out toasted pita bread that is Out of this World! I could eat this all day. It's buttery and salty. I loved it. For my entree I had the marinated skirt steak...which was amazing. I never get skirt steak and this was delicious. A couple of people raved about the risotto too. For desert you have gotta try the chocolate bag. It's basically a chocolate pocketbook with ice cream and fruit in it. Outstanding desert. We were in the mood for a great steak and my husband didn't feel like grilling in the cold tonight. I got the NY Strip which was cooked perfectly medium rare. It was so large I couldn't finish it. It was delicious. I got mashed sweet potatoes and they were fantastic. Our steaks came with string beans which were also very tasty. Crisp just how I love them with a crunch! My husband got the Cedar River Farm Rib Eye. He loved it, and also couldn't finish it! We added creamed spinach and it was the best we ever had! We gave the cabernet wine sauce another try, still thought it was awful. Lacking flavor, watery. The peppercorn sauce was a better choice. Mushroom risotto was also quite bland. French fries were good, especially after reheating to crisp them up. Pot stickers were still good, but they were soggy not well done enough but some of that might be due to them being take out. I was very disappointed. I have been here many times before and was outstanding, this time not even close. I ordered a Surf and turf roll which is normally great, this time steak was overcooked and felt like it was reheated from a prior day. I then ordered a medium rare skirt steak as my main meal. It came out cold, rare, borderline raw. The mashed potatoes had no flavor and I felt like they were instant potatoes. I will have to think twice about returning as I feel like they are cutting corners and increasing prices. I wouldn't mind an increase in price with the current pandemic, but the quality should not have been lower. read more

If my girlfriend were giving the review she would have easily gave this place 5 stars. I thought it was good - very good and would definitely come back here again, but wasn't overly amazed by it. This place serves Asian Fusion cuisine. They have your typical Asian dishes like sushi, but also will have more American style food like Lobster bisque. First thing we served was bread with 3 spreads: Hummus, Eggplant Hummus, and a cucumber yogurt concoction. Bread was great, but the 3 spreads were just okay (the regular hummus being the best overall). For an appetizer we split the kung pow calamari which was very very good. Calamari was cooked well (not too crunchy, but wasn't rubbery). The sauce was outstanding on it. For dinner, I got a Sushi Sandwich roll with a lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was excellent. The sushi sandwich was just okay. It looked appetizing since it was avocado, crab meat, eel i think, and one more thing with a chipolte mayo sauce. Sounded delicious. Presentation was fantastic (which to be honest, I don't care too much about), but the sushi itself was eh. It wasn't bad tasting, but it was very spicy (not only was the sauce spicy, but they put a lot of black pepper on it). For a $16 roll I expect more. Prices in general were a little high, but not horrible. Our waiter was really friendly and personable (probably helped that we were one of 4 tables there and he had maybe 1 other table to serve) which was a nice touch. I actually feel badly writing this review because I totally support our local businesses, but we spent $90 and I was appalled at what arrived. We called in our order and my hubby went to pick it up. Bang bang shrimp; limp and tasteless. Tuna pizza; thick dough and weird playdoh tuna toppings, ribs; not bad but coleslaw has an off color and aftertaste, meatballs; ONE extremely mushy and had nursing home quality to it (like potted meatball but only one in a bad broth), oh and the thom thom salad ($7.95 by the way) three pieces of wilted mesclun drowned in sesame dressing with one cherry tomato and shredded carrots. Talk about a home run! From the moment we got to the door, til the moment we walked out I was nothing short of impressed with this place. And that's very hard to do because I used to work in restaurants and I am very picky - from decor, to menus, to lighting. But this place was amazing. I actually chose it after reading some of the reviews off Yelp and thought to myself "Even if these people are padding, it could still be a solid new place" and i'm so glad for Yelp in moments like this. The biggest clutch moment came when it was suggested to make a reservation. Had we not had one, i'm pretty sure the experience would have been different but thankfully i listened. We were seated promptly and the fun began. I won't bore you all with silly details but I will say I noticed several people remarking about slow service. I for one found the pace to be perfect! It allowed my girlfriends and i to finish not 1, but 2 bottles of wine and enjoy appetizers, meals and a dessert without ever feeling too full or like we couldn't finish something. Our meal stay was 2 hours total and it was worth every second. Far as the food - unbelievable. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with sweet potato risotto and WOW it was probably one of the best Sea Bass' i'd ever had. I sampled my friends Osso Bucco with mushroom mashed potatoes - another WOW! So tender and cooked to absolute perfection. My other friend got the Shrimp with sea diver scallops with Beet risotto and again - WOW. We ordered a Spicy Roll for an appetizer and it was as good as any other place i'd had sushi previously. We opted for the dessert special of Lemon Meringue ice cream and let's just say, i had to be restrained from ordering more than one. Also i loved the fact that I ordered a Key Lime Pie martini and while they didn't have it on their menu the bartender made a solid effort to try and make it for me. We started with a very nice bottle of merlot, although I do not remember the name. The Kung Pao Calamari is a must try! I couldve eaten that as my main course. I've come here on numerous special occasions with my boyfriend and I really have nothing but positive things to say. The usually have great prix fix menues during holidays, restaurant week, and on special occasions. We've been there for valentines day, new years eve, and just on regular date nights. I've always been treated well and have loved my food. The ambiance there is wonderful, a little stuffy, but not bad. The parking is not amazing, but it's not bad either. All the little things that bother me seem like not such a bother because at the end of every date we've gone on, I've left full, happy, and with left overs. I would recommend making reservations on weekends and definitely special occasions. They have open table which always makes it easy. Bring your significant other there to make them feel special because roses as a part of dinner on valentine's day warms anyones heart! I love the steak AND the sushi.. I usually prefer one over the other. They have an incredibly creative and delicious menu. Their drinks are pretty average, but very stiff! Love that this place is close to home so I don't have to worry when I drink! umm this place is freaking AWESOME!! not sure why the ratings aren't higher though because every time I come here, everything is spot on! I first came here for their New Year's Eve party, which had amazing delicious food buffet style which even included sushi! Really good and fresh sushi too! Their Sea Bass is my favorite dish with the scrumptious Mushroom Risotto!! I can literally eat their mushroom risotto 24/7 if I could! Their lunch boxes are amazing as well and decently priced especially for good quality food. Coconut shrimp are also amaze-balls. There is this one roll that has a piece of lemon on top of it (not sure what it's called) which literally gives your mouth an EXPLOSION of flavor. And of course their desserts are bomb as well. Yum. The food at this place was superb! Started off with the complementary naan with a delicious hummus made of sesame oil or truffle oil (or both). For appetizer, we had a delicious Kung Pao Calamari (out of this world!), our main courses were twin lobster tails with mushroom risotto and the skirt steak. Finished off with a shared lava cake (very good). The steak was extremely tender and the seafood very fresh. The portions were perfect, not too much, not too little. IMO, the prices were not really unreasonable. The entrees were relatively on par with higher-end restaurants. It may throw you off, as it is more of a mid-priced atmosphere with a kind of "neighborhood bar" feel, but the food quality is so over the top, you have nothing to complain about. The wait staff was extremely nice and the food came out in a timely manner. They were slightly preoccupied with cleaning up what I'm going to tell you below. I will note one thing. We used Open Table to book a 7:00 pm reservation for a Sunday, only to come to the restaurant and find a private party VERY slowly breaking down. The party was supposed to be over, but the guests lingered WAY past their limit. The staff was growing frustrated with them, yet they left when they were damned well ready. They saw us waiting there, but they did absolutely nothing to rush to leave while they were attending to their own needs, slowly. So my suggestion is, if you want to go on a Sunday, be sure to directly call in advance to find out if there is a private party that day. Food was very good. Service was fair, maybe a little better than fair a nice busboy Alex was super friendly. HOWEVER, so much of a nice meal includes the atmosphere. This is an area that is extremely lacking at Thom Thom. When the four of us arrived, we were pleasantly greeted, and waited for them to prepare our table. We stood a bit awkwardly between dining room and the bar (which also has seating). A whole panel from the end booth in the bar was broken off and leaning against the wall (tacky). It's the holiday season. My living room is so much more cozier than the measly decorations in the dining room. I can't even imagine how plain it looks from January through November. No pictures. No warmth. Although the food really was good, it would have been better if the environment was more inviting. read more

This review is for a dining experience late last summer. But I am lazy and forget to review but Thom Thom deserves one. We met another couple here and really enjoyed our meals , the service and the experience. I can't remember what each of us ordered, but I remember the selection was great and the apps and entrees were great. The atmosphere was "meh". I can't put my finger on it. It's missing something.
