I have high standards for bakeries and sweet shops. If I'm going to indulge, I need it to be perfection. Chocolate succe - :(. Not my thing. I ate it all because it was expensive but I kind of want the calories back. It's a beautiful piece but the inside has this coconut-textured praline filling that I didn't enjoy very much. It fulfilled my sweet tooth but I really wish I had gone with the tiramisu or something else. Chocolate croissant - meh. Not enough chocolate in there and the chocolate was a dark chocolate, which didn't really meld with the bread for me. Onion brioche - this is delicious. It's got a wonderful caramelized onion filling throughout the fluffy bread. Macaron (coconut lime) - excellent macaroon. Chocolates - good but pricey. I bought a small box and am still working through them, but the maple one tastes like dark chocolate with a very mild (?) hint of maple. This might be my favorite place on the planet (why don't they have one in Seattle?!?!). We wandered in after a disappointing birthday dinner at Black & Blue across the street and were completely blown away. Chocolates, pastries, coffee... and cocktails! SOLD! I had a superb B-52 coffee and some chocolates. My partner had a macchiato and a raspberry ponzu tart which was to die for. This really made the evening fun and memorable - sitting outside in the heated enclosed patio watching the rain pour down outside. If I was local, I'd be here often... that being said, I think it's worth the drive and the border crossing to come up and visit at least a few times a year! read more

The presentation of the goods is simple and clean. And the taste of the wares is divine. On my last trip to Vancouver I bought a pack of macarons to take home with me so that I could enjoy them for the rest of the week. It was the best decision I made all year; every bite transported me back to my favorite French bakery. I have tried macarons all over Vancouver - Soirette, Faubourg, Thomas Haas, etc. Thierry, HANDS DOWN, makes the *best* macarons I have ever had, including the ones I have sampled in New York and Los Angeles. To be honest, I am not a fan of a few other things I tried, like the lemon loaf and the madeleines. But the macarons - chewy shell, creamy and silky filling, little gem of flavour hidden inside the buttercream, like a fresh cranberry or a candied chestnut - make up for it. Been wanting to check this place out for sometime. My friend and I visited this place for lunch. The sandwiches look small but it turned out to be just right. The bread looked alittle hard but it wasn't. We didn't have any pastries but they all looked delicious. I believe that's what they are known for. The reason I gave it three stars was for customer service and price. The people who work there aren't very friendly. They actually look unhappy working there. The second was price for tea. Very busy at night with a line up but service was super fast and efficient. Passionfruit mousse cake was delighful, fresh and full of tart flavor. Lemon curd tart was bright and cheery and wakes you up and topped with a lovely burnt sugar crust to mellow the sharp bitter lemon. If they had more types of all chocolate mousse cakes I would have bought more to go, I just dont care for black forest or white chocolate. This is a great location since it is a quick walk from many of the restaurants in the area and has AMAZING DESERTS. They had a 3-4 gluten-free options which were all very good. We both enjoyed the "liquid chocolate" which has 4ish flavors to choose from. We would definitely return. read more

Mmmm I am in macaron heaven! I think I might have overdosed. These macarons were perfectly chewy, crispy, and tasty. My favorite was the chocolate caramel ones because... well I just love caramel anything. The gianduja one was also amazing though. I expected to see a lot more bright colours, and some fruit filled ones, but I was quite satisfied with the ones I got. The coffee was okay, not my favorite espresso. Went in one Saturday evening after dinner downtown and was shocked at how many people were there. There was a line to the door and al the tables were full even at 11pm. I have to admit their macaroons were amazing. I would of eaten 5 more of the salted caramel ones if I could. Firm outside with a soft and very light centre. Coffee is quite meh here, but the macarons are delicious!!!! My favorite is the chestnut version with candied chestnut pieces in the filling. The patio outside is great for people watching and making sure your car isn't getting ticketed if you are parked on the street. Lol. The place is acceptable, but the I can only give this an a-ok. This is the place to be when you're out late at night but you get a sudden craving for something sweet! Thierry has a myriad of delicious sweets ranging from spiked coffees, high end chocolates, handcrafted gelato, beautifully constructed cakes, and possibly the best macarons in Vancouver! The small establishment can only take 30 people or so but there's enough room in their heated patio for at least 15 more. They have a wide variety of sweets but some of our favorites include: lychee macaron, chocolate tart (they make this occasionally but it's seriously the best!), tiramisu, and raspberry gelato! Chocolate Tart (6.5/7) This is amazing! The entire tart is made out of this solidified type of mousse that's extremely creamy but not too sweet. The chocolate isn't too overpowering even though it's very dark, and we thought that it was a lot less bitter than other chocolate tarts that we have had. Lemon Tart (5.5/7) This sour treat was loved by only a few of us. The tanginess of the tart was definitely enough but unfortunately, it was just too sour. Chestnut Cake (6/7) To be honest, we've only had chestnut cakes made in Asian bakeries before! We wanted to try this as soon as we saw it and we have no regrets! This was made very well as the ratio of chestnut to chocolate tasted perfect. Tiramisu (6.25/7) This is honestly a piece of art. The tiramisu here is made beautifully and we've tried both the small individual size and the full size. Even though the tiramisu isn't authentic, the aesthetics of the cake makes up for it! The taste is quite good and we always come back for more. Pear Cassis Charlotte (4.5/7) This wasn't very good. Saying this so bluntly makes us want to apologize to the patissiers of Thierry but this cake was honestly not good. We only ordered this because it looked really nice but it was honestly very plain and something that we could never order again. The green outer shell was questionable and didn't taste very good. Opera Cake (6/7) This is a very dense cake that is comprised of hazelnut sponge, chocolate ganache, butter cream, and coffee. We enjoyed this a lot with our tea but it was very filling! (not that we're complaining) Japanese Sencha green tea (6/7) This was a very enjoyable tea that we could distinguish as high quality. Although it differs from the tea that you could drink at Miku, this had its own soothing taste. Honeybush Vanilla Tea?? (Not sure if this is the correct name) (6.25/7) This unique tea was perfect with our desserts as it wasn't too strong but it didn't have any herbal-y smell/taste. (Came here several times so I will rate each item separately after each comment) I really enjoy coming here because they have amazing desserts that look and taste wonderful. It does tend to get quite busy because it is such a popular place to chill so I would recommend coming here during the weekdays. French Macarons - I tried their lemon macarons which was very good. It had that tangy lemon flavor but it wasn't overwhelming. The edges were nice and crispy while the center was soft and gooey. I also tried their pumpkin macaron which this one was quite disappointing because there wasn't any pumpkin flavor at all. They do make good macarons overall but they were quite steep. One macaron costed me $2.50 which I could get something similar for $2 that tasted just as good. (3.5/5) Chocolate Marquise - My bf and I really liked this one because it was rich and chocolaty. It was also very sweet, however, the salt from the caramel helped with the sweetness. Our favorite part was the crisp praline at the bottom because it provided a wonderful crunchy texture to the cake since the majority of the cake was soft. (5/5) Cheese Onion Brioche - This was also very good. They didn't disappoint on flavor or the description because there were pieces of onions inside and it was very cheesy. The exterior part of the brioche was crispy which I liked while the interior part was light and airy. I bet it would of tasted extra awesome if it was heated up! (5/5) Tiramisu - Very cute and pretty looking presented dessert. This one also didn't disappoint in flavor because the sponge was soaked with both coffee and kahlua. I have tried other tiramisu cakes where the coffee flavor was too mild. Even though it had such good coffee flavor, there was way too much cream to cake ratio to my liking. (3/5) Passion Fruit Cake - This was very lovely. It was light and refreshing. You could taste the passion fruit within the whole cake because it was in the mousse and in the gelee. It was sweet but also tart. It would be good on a hot summer day or after a heavy meal and you crave for something sweet. (4/5) Chocolate Succe - If you have a super sweet tooth, I would recommend getting this because it was very sweet. Inside had a thick layer of meringue so it was very gooey and it had a soft-like consistency which wasn't bad but I prefer my dessert to have a variety of textures not just one note. (3.5/5) Chestnut Tart - This was absolutely delicious! Just a FYI, the description online states "almond and chestnut cream" but it wasn't really cream. It was more like a paste but it was so smooth and tasty, and you could taste both the almonds and chestnuts. The top part of the tart had these caramelized hazelnuts and pecans which went lovely with tart because it added some crunchy texture and nutty flavor. It also was covered with tons of dark chocolate shavings which melted in your mouth. The crust of the tart was quite hard so be careful when trying to cut into it but nonetheless, it was crunchy and not too thick. It Another FYI, you would need to ask for this because they don't have them out in the display case and it is only offered during the fall season so you got to try it out soon! (5/5) Overall, their desserts are awesome and staff are friendly. I would only take their desserts "to go" because I usually have coffee with my desserts and their coffee was absolutely not worth it. I had an 11 oz americano for $2.95 and they gave me such a small amount. It looked more like an 8 oz cup. I would of gotten more coffee from Starbucks at a cheaper cost. This is an amazing patisserie. The macaroons are fantastic as well as the chocolates. I tried a Spanish latte, which is espresso with condensed milk. It was silky and sweet. The espresso had a great, deep flavor. Their pastries were awesome for breakfast. We went here twice during our weekend visit it was so good. Definitely a must try. read more

Having never had a macaron before, and with my friend visiting from out of town, we decided to treat ourselves to something sweet. The display of cakes and chocolates is definitely picture-worthy, however we were both hoping for more selection of flavours of macarons. Nevertheless, we settled on trying the raspberry and coffee flavours. Both were delicious, with the fresh raspberry inside that flavour being a cool (& tasty) surprise. Neither were super sweet, which is a good thing. The decor is really nice and sleek, and the staff are super friendly. Tried this place for the first time a couple weeks ago. Having a sweet tooth, the moment I stepped into the shop, it was magical. The place was filled with aromas of chocolate and coffee - lovely combination, even if I don't drink coffee. All the sweets were laid out orderly behind a classy window. I tried the chocolate trio, and chocolate succe. Both were very, very sweet, so some milk/coffee would be recommended. Nothing much to say about the trio, but the succe had this hard dark chocolate coating, that it was difficult to eat. In a city where dessert places are hard to come by and at best give you mediocre pastries and have no ambience Thierry wins the gold medal for trying to change the scene. Living in the neighbourhood I have tried their coffee, Peppermint tea and Honeybush Vanilla tea as well as tiramisu. As a sweet tooth person heaven is spelled with sugar in my world but not too much of it. The tiramisu is amazing with a twist on the classic and the raspberry macaroon took me to Paris without the need for an 8-hour flight. If you are looking for a late night dessert spot downtown and craving heavenly deliciousness you can't go wrong here. I'm surprised by the bad review but I think they are largely due to the prices at this place...just remember nothing good is cheap! read more

While visiting Vancouver I saw that Thierry's had excellent marks on Yelp and since it was down the road from our hotel we decided to give it a try. We each got a coffee, the salmon sandwich, the almond croissant and the vanilla and salted caramel macaroons. Everything was excellent. The selection isn't as big as some of the other great french bakeries I've been to, but everything we tried was excellent. The macaroons were especially great and I think even better than some of the ones we had in Paris (vanilla was the favorite). Friend wanted dessert so I recommended here to try their desserts. Ordered the passion fruit and chocolate trio cakes to share along with the Canadian Berry loose leaf tea. Passion fruit cake was a bit sour but overall light and pretty good. The chocolate trio was very strong and heavy. Its probably my fav out of the two selection. It was dense and if you like bitter chocolate you may want to try this trio. Service was okay but too crowded here and loud. I've been to Thierry a number of times and every time its so tasty and decadent. To balance that out I always grab a coffee too, cuz its so good! We ordered the Napoleon pastry which is my go to whenever I eat pastries because its usually really good. I was wrong... it was epic good. The pastry part was crunchy/crispy enough and the cream filling wasn't too heavy and not too sweet! great texture to balance with the pastry portion. The coffee, as always, was really good and served with a smile. Just for fun we had some of the macrons. blueberry and now I want more just thinking about it, it was so good. read more

Based on the positive Yelp reviews, I really wanted to try this place for dessert. I ordered the vanilla buttercream mocha macaron. It was good, but not something I would necessarily order again. It seemed like there were few desserts to choose from at 8:30 pm, as I was really hoping for a millefeuille. I also had the 4 oz liquid chocolate with caramel, which turned out to be far too sweet for my taste. I couldn't finish it. The place was packed with customers and the service was fine.
