The only disappointment was I never got to place my order because the woman- a/k/an owner who answered the phone was so rude, she hung up on me because she was talking too much and didn't let me get a word in edgewise. We ordered a cake a couple of weeks ago for my nieces birthday and picked it up yesterday. We live in Jersey but had not found a Dominican cake bakery that makes gorgeous cakes locally. There are bakeries in our area that make beautiful cakes but we prefer Dominican cake and being this place offers both we were willing to go the distance and pay tolls and their high end price to get it. We said we would pick it up after 10am. Arrived before noon and was told they needed 10 minutes to finish it. That was surprising since the order was place almost 3 weeks in advance and fully paid. Anyhow, we waited, and waited for about 30 minutes. The cake look beautiful as ordered but I noticed that it smelled very lemony when we were in the car heading back home. After the festivity and cake cutting we realized when tasting it that the cake was not Dominican cake but regular white batter and that the passion fruit flavored filling we requested was not what they gave us, it was lemon and a layer had coconut. Thank god no one was allergic as it was not what we ordered. So based on the fact that we paid over $90 for a cake for 8 people and drive from Jersey to the Bronx and didn't even get what we ordered you can understand our disappointment. We could have gotten an American style pretty cake in Jersey for way less if we knew that is what we were going to receive :( I didn't deduct another star because the the cake was a least pretty in pictures. The array of different cakes on display look like they belong in an art museum versus on the table at your event. And then, there are the cupcakes for purchase. I counted approx 25 or so flavors that are anything but ordinary. For my wedding I was determined to have a pistachio cake, and few pastry chefs were able to create that flavoring. Today I took the Dominican cake class here. The owner runs the class and walks you through every single step of making this delicious cake. She made every step so easy to follow and gave us the recipe to take home. We made the Dominican dough, the infamous pineapple filling and the amazing suspiro that makes every Dominican cake so distinctive in flavor and texture. So where do I begin.....! Okay let's first talk about the taste. 1. The actual taste of the cakes aren't actually good at all! After deciding to proceed with the order I called and never received a response. I emailed and finally got a call the following day. Again, the owner was completely rude and actually said she will not be proceeding with my order. I asked her why wouldn't she tell me that via email the day prior so I could have had time to order elsewhere (my even was just 3 days away). She then responded "well I didn't know we had a lot of orders until I came in this morning". WHAT?!?! Never will I recommend this place to anyone. YES her cake designs are great but the customer service and taste is horrible. If you do decide to give her a try, I recommend trying the cupcakes first before making such a decision because the reviews on yelp doesn't match at all.
