I am editing my original review here as of 7-2012 because this place has become very crowded and noisy and apparently the staffing has changed into younger less friendly folks (maybe she thinks: "my butt is fine so i don't have to smile or even look at you. it's your priviledge to see ME"). To compensate for the noise it seems they feel the need to turn up the music even more negating any chance of intelligible conversation. The choice of taps is still geat though. I am always looking for a clean and QUIET place to have a good beer in my neighborhood. It was Naked city for about a month when they first opened, but then it just turned into just another shouting match arena. Why do people insist on shouting at each other in bars? I don't get it. DOESN'T ANYONE REALIZE THAT SHOUTING IS BAD MANNERS? Anyway, the Yard is very nicely done with all the wood and the heater on the deck (which hasnt been on lately forcing me inside to listen to the shouting match amping up my tinnitus). I went into the Yard a couple of times recently and it was nice, but I can see it is already turning into another Naked City, and it is even worse when they are playing their music too loud. The taps are good and so are the appetizers. Nice and friendly not scary and I like their taste at least in beers (not so much in music). I know they need to get a lot of business to stay afloat and I hope they do, but if people continue to insist on bombarding my ears with their shouting over pop music played too loud it will not be a pleasant experience for this old codger. If they turn the outside heater back on maybe i'll come back more often. *adds one star for the food *improvements since first review include access for minors and the food has been consistenly very good (but if i rave about the food will the prices rise?) one more star for price point! also has been quieter. Met a few friends here for dinner this week and can say that I will definitely be back. The inside was small and reminded me of a ski lodge - dim and cozy. The beer selection was fantastic and the homeade chips and guac were all they were cracked up to be. I ordered a torta, which was mediocre, but my friends got the tacos and loved em. This was a solid bar and I recommend it to anyone looking for some good beer, tasty apps. and a super chill place to chat. read more

Just not quite what I was hoping for. Good beer, but the food just doesn't do it for me. I would rather have a relatively diverse menu than "street Mexican." The space is pretty cool, although I think they would kill if they replaced the loose gravel in the outside area with a patio/deck, as well as replacing the picnic tables with regular tables. read more

Walking around Greenwood popped into this little gem. Really cute little place with shared outside seating and the bar is nice and open so you can see outside, which is really nice. They have a great beer selection, as well as gluten free beers and ciders that are marked easily. We ordered a few things and shared. Had the ceviche which changes daily super fresh and delicious. Had a salad that was loaded with yummy veggies. The real champion were the tacos. So good!!!!! We weren't that hungry but we kept ordering more and more food like a bunch of piggies. I really enjoyed our dinner at the Yard Cafe. The drinks were great, the food was even better, and the service was fun and knowledgable. I love Mexican food, and I can quickly tell when it isn't what it is supposed to me. This was great food, and I really enjoyed it! Great chips and salsa too! The ambiance is just super, and I can imagine that it'd be a lively place to dine, have drinks and watch a football game. Screens everywhere. I had been to The Yard before to watch a soccer game, and found the food to be decent. That was breakfast. But this Friday night I had some happy hour tacos that were scary bad. In fact, I had come with my friends to eat dinner and drink beers but I stopped them from ordering here, my food was that bad. We went somewhere else instead (Ridge pizza - awesome!) It is kinda nice to sit in the Yard beer garden and watch an early morning EPL game, and the beer list is definitely interesting. But we waited a LONG time for service on a Friday and when our beers arrived the guy practically threw them at us, sloshing the beer all over the table and then not cleaning it up, just running off. We decided we were not going to come back here. When we want to watch a soccer game, we'll stick to their other bar The Dray which is smaller but much mo betta. read more

I've got to say, I'm very unhappy with the lunch I just had at The Yard. My mother and I were actually headed to another place to have lunch when we happened upon the Yard. I looked at the Brunch menu and decided to go inside and eat. Unfortunately, we missed brunch by 15 minutes and were left with Mexican options. No big deal. My mother asked to add tomato to a caesar salad. The waitress said that wasn't possible. I asked her why seeing as they served pico de gallo (which is made mostly of tomatoes). Her response was that the kitchen wouldn't cut up a whole tomato for her. This leads me to believe that either the salsa is not freshly made every day or they don't care enough to ask the kitchen to add a tomato. I should have left then, but it was warm outside and my mother is older, so I didn't want to make her leave and go somewhere else. My drink ($8 6-8oz margarita) was watered down. They didn't have XX beers at all (again, odd for place that is serving Mexican). Food was okay - Carne Asada was passable, fish tacos were bland. Prawns were overcooked and the salad was overdressed. I don't like YELPing bad reviews, only good ones. I tried to email the establishment directly with this review, however they don't have an address on their site. End of story - almost $50 check for Tacos and a Salad and mediocre service. I feel ripped off. read more

About 5 months or so ago we would give this place a 5 star rating, but the service has deteriorated consistently each time we visit (maybe since they expanded?). They have a very good beer selection and I think the food is tasty. My partner is vegetarian and they have options for him. However, when we go out we expect to be served, waited on, whatever you want to call it. Sometimes we have to wait 10 minutes or so to get someone to give us menus, take our order or bring us napkins. It's slightly better if you sit at the bar, but that's by default due to the close proximity to an employee. Not sure if we'll go back because there are (now)better options nearby. The fact that they show soccer is actually a detractor for me, but that's a whole other review. read more

I have been here a few times. The atmosphere is nice, outdoor seating is great in the summer, the beer selection is really great. BUT....was there tonight and the food, as always was overpriced and...meh....nothing exciting. Our server , J....was really abrupt and practically rolled her eyes over the two or three questions we asked. One was how spicy a certain dish was. I get it that its subjective, but if you know ANYTHING about your menu then you can ask someone if they are a spice wimp or not and give them a general idea. There is no reason to be bitchy about it. I have never loved the food here, may come back in summer for a beer if a friend wanted to go, but I would never choose to go myself or recommend it.....really not worth the money for the food or the rude service. read more

I want to thank The Yard for being part of the triumvirate of businesses that has helped define Greenwood and encouraging more people to spend time and money in this fledgling neighborhood. The food is great - yes, the portion sizes are a bit small for the money - but it's good stuff. With the likes of Hecho moving into Phinney, maybe you'll struggle a little less to find food on par with the Yard's menu items.. but the ambience is just more chill and social than Hecho. In the summer, it is PACKED with people enjoying the libations and I'm happy to see their expanded space is generally full up too from Thursday - Saturday nights even in the winter months. read more

Good local spot with good beer. Tacos are bad ass but they recently raised the price. The place gets super busy though, definitely a following with the popularity of the Dray (yard backwards). While doing a recon ride for a charity event we will be hosting towards the end of September we decided to stop at The Yard. We HAD the Yard planned as a stop for the charity ride and would have been coming in with 60-80 bikes, plus passengers for a beer-shot and draw a raffle for a prize. On the recon ride we had 7 of us, we grabbed a table outside on the patio and all was well. We were welcomed by the server quickly and a $18 pitcher of beer was ordered. Chips and Salsa was offered and we accepted it. We decided not to order lunch and asked for the tab. Remember that order of chips and salsa....$17.50! WTF? My fiancee and I tried to come here this past Saturday for dinner and drinks. The Yard was very full. We walked in and no body greeted us. So we stood there, not sure where to go or who to talk to. Servers walked right by, no acknowledgement or advice on how to get seated. (is it seat yourself? not sure at this point!) Then, we make our way to the back to what looks like the computers where servers enter orders, then BAM, more seating. ok, cool? I finally flag a server and ask her how we sit and order at this establishment. She says VERBATIM "Oh just seat yourself. It's really busy right now and customers usually just stare at other customers who have finished eating to get up and leave so they can have their table. Yeah it's kind of awkward" Wow, not worth it. We went to Hecho instead, where we, upon entering, saw a sign that said 'please wait to be seated'. What a novel concept!! read more

A client of mine suggested we meet here last night to go over his offer review and I hadn't been here before. Let's just say, I'm going to be sharing this info with a lot of my friends, and most definitely, my husband. What a great spot in terms of location (Greenwood neighborhood), beverage choices - a really great beer list and fun cocktails but what's up with no specialty cocktail featuring vodka? - and the food was killer. You wouldn't know it by the name, but the majority of the food is Mexican style - so awesome beer and really good Mexican food.... all my hubbies faves in one place. I wasn't here during these times, but they do have a Happy Hour (4-6) and late night specials (10-12) for $1 off beer/wine/specialty cocktails. read more

The food here is great, and it's been one of our favorite restaurants on Greenwood Ave. However, the experience we just had service-wise was completely not customer focused. We went in for lunch (it was 12:45) with our two kids before going trick or treating along the Ave. The kids were hungry, so the first thing we did was order the cheese quesadilla that we usually get for our kids (they're quite picky, and it's the only thing on the menu they'll eat). The response, though, was that the kitchen couldn't do that for another 15 minutes and we were just out of luck. Not only was there no interest in accommodating (the excuse was the kitchen wasn't ready, but we're talking about something that requires no prep) and the waiter showed absolutely zero sympathy, going so far as to quite un-empathetically say, "feel free to come back if you don't find anywhere else in 15 minutes." I'm going to have to think really hard about going back again. There's a lot of good competition on Greenwood Ave now, and I'm just not that interested in going somewhere that isn't interested in good customer service. read more

Great mexican food, some unique menu items and others that are most standard. Their house made tortilla chips and salsas are incredible, and I really like their variety of tacos. Awesome beer selection, always different every time we go. I appreciate that they allow children, but I wish they had just a few simple menu items that kids would be more inclined to enjoy. We've asked if they'll make a quesadilla for our kids but they wouldn't do it. I understand that keeping the menu limited will help control quality, but can we just get 1-2 super simple items for the kids? I know they have tortillas and cheese! That said, it's certainly not going to stop us from going back. We love it and will bring PB&J for the kids if we need to. :) read more

They get 2 stars because I've had good tacos there before. But I tried the place for brunch today and won't ever do that again. I ordered chilaquiles with eggs over medium. They came with super runny yolks and I was just going to let that slide until I saw that the egg whites weren't even cooked. I told the waitress who said they would "take care of that" ( on the bill) and asked if I'd like something different. I wasn't thrilled with the dish in general so I asked for the light breakfast- with over hard eggs- nothing runny. Well, those eggs were * maybe* over medium, still with runny yolks. I would have told the waitress but she didn't come back to check how it was. After I paid (wasn't charged for chilaquiles, but was charged for the light breakfast- so, gosh, thanks for not charging me for the raw eggs?) I told her the 2nd eggs were still runny. The cooks don't understand even what egg doneness means (per the waitress they didn't know that the runny egg white was a sign the egg wasn't over medium) and the waitress said that some cooks undercook the eggs, and some over cook them. If you don't understand egg done-ness, and can't hit it consistently, dump brunch. read more

After we got our drinks, we waited another fifteen to order food.
