The Workshop is awesome! Some of the best food in the Bay Area. The owners are great people and super hospitable. I have seen a few poor reviews with patrons upset about not being able to order featured items like their pot pie and beignets. It's important to understand that this is a small business. They prep their food fresh daily, and due to the size and capacity of the building they can only carry so much inventory. Some of the best food I've had the pleasure of eating. The gumbo is so good! The hush puppies are delicious cornbread nuggets that could replace the after sex cigarette. Lived in Benicia for years and just recently had the absolute pleasure to sample the Cajun inspired creations of master chef Danny. The textures and wonderful flavors range greatly and no love is spared in the preparation of everything from Shrimp Po boys to hush puppies, jumbalia and fried pork chops, seafood platter with catfish and fried oysters and more. Try the gumbo! Wow! Danny and his Wife Naomi as well as their son all work together in this very unassuming venue. Danny studied in New Orleans and is the real deal. Solid sandwiches for lunch. The rumor around town is that they can get pretty busy so it's best to call in ahead of time so you don't show up and get disappointed if they sell out :,) We tried the brisket po boy and the fried shrimp po boy. Both were tasty but I wish it came with more sauce, pickles (probably an unpopular opinion), or something else that's crunchy or tart. I think that's what was missing with both sandwiches. This is how you KNOW The Workshop is a great place.... When your boss doesn't mind your 30 minute lunch break takes over an hour, so long as you bring back a brisket po'boy for them. When your sister in law is willing to drive over 30 minutes and pay bridge toll just for hush puppies. And when your good friend from New Orleans says they know authentic Cajun food, and this place is the best they've had outside "N'awlins". It comes with a yummy cocktail sauce that I recommend getting on the side if you are taking it to go. Its a big sandwich so order accordingly. The seafood platter is another big hit as a pescatarian it brings high quality ingredients together with perfectly cooked textures. TIMING IS EVERYTHING make sure to research their hours before you make the trek. We went early one day to get some beignets and to our surprise, during their early morning hours you can ONLY get beignets and coffee, we kept busy in town and returned to our lunch later in the day. Only several folks were waiting for food, but it was a rainy cold day, so I'm sure there's probably a line when the weather is better. We ordered hush puppies, chicken po boy, brisket po boy, and a shrimp po boy. All huge sandwiches. My teenage son was the only one that finished his. Shrimp po boy was good, I would share next time because I think if this sandwich sat, it would definitely be soggy. Thursdays are made for pot pies. Hands down the best pot pie I have ever had! The crust is super flaky and buttery. The inside contains fresh ingredients, season really well, chicken is tender. Its overall an amazing experience. First time ordering the crab corn soup. It was special. Chunks of crab meat mixed in with the delicious and well seasoned bisque. I was sad I couldn't have more! I have been wanting to come to this spot for some time Thanks to the Yelp Community. Finally, Mom and I made it and I'm glad we did. We ordered the seafood trio which comes w/catfish, 3 oysters, maybe 7 shrimp and 2 hush puppies (only on Fridays). I did not eat the fish but Mom enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the shrimp but wished they were a tad larger especially with having such a nice flavor. The oysters seemed to need a little more seasoning and could've been fried just a tad harder but Mom loves them super soft. Trust me, I will order again and just ask they be fried a tad longer. Now the hush puppies are so amazing. I read reviews and they are no lie, delicious. Mom and I both got orders to go. I wanted to share as they are a nice size as shown and you get 4 per order/ $5. Mom looked at me and told me to order my own, lol. The brussel sprouts were very good, more savory than sweet as some places may add a touch of syrup/sweetness. I got there about 20 mins before they opened. As they started taking orders, the woman at the window actually came out and asked me if I was wanting the special as they were close to selling out.
