Wow, I was surprised that a little quaint joint that take orders from the window could serve up such delicious food! I was impressed that owner came out and chatted with his patrons. In talking to him, I learned that he( Danny) went to Culinary School in Louisiana and also, learned Southern cooking from "the best of the best"- - someone's little old grandma. The Workshop is awesome! Some of the best food in the Bay Area. The owners are great people and super hospitable. I have seen a few poor reviews with patrons upset about not being able to order featured items like their pot pie and beignets. It's important to understand that this is a small business. They prep their food fresh daily, and due to the size and capacity of the building they can only carry so much inventory. Much like really killer barbecue spots, when they run out, they simply run out. That being said, if you want to try the pot pie, beignets, or any of their awesome features get there early! read more

Try the gumbo! Wow! Danny and his Wife Naomi as well as their son all work together in this very unassuming venue. Danny studied in New Orleans and is the real deal. The rumor around town is that they can get pretty busy so it's best to call in ahead of time so you don't show up and get disappointed if they sell out :,) We tried the brisket po boy and the fried shrimp po boy. Both were tasty but I wish it came with more sauce, pickles (probably an unpopular opinion), or something else that's crunchy or tart. I think that's what was missing with both sandwiches. I'm always impressed by the food here. I occasionally visit on Saturday mornings for fresh beignets and chicory coffee, but my heart truly resides in all of their savory foods. I placed my order at the very nice lady, I turned around and there was already a line, also the phone was ringing too inside. The food was a divine, large portion. This is how you KNOW The Workshop is a great place.... When your boss doesn't mind your 30 minute lunch break takes over an hour, so long as you bring back a brisket po'boy for them. What can I say that hasnt been said... The shrimp po boy is true love and worth the drive across the bridge from the East Bay. It comes with a yummy cocktail sauce that I recommend getting on the side if you are taking it to go. Its a big sandwich so order accordingly. The seafood platter is another big hit as a pescatarian it brings high quality ingredients together with perfectly cooked textures. TIMING IS EVERYTHING make sure to research their hours before you make the trek. We went early one day to get some beignets and to our surprise, during their early morning hours you can ONLY get beignets and coffee, we kept busy in town and returned to our lunch later in the day. My son and I got the shrimp po' boys and hush puppies. The food is ALWAYS fresh, ALWAYS delicious. The shrimp was breaded and fried perfectly, not greasy at all and the shrimp was plump and juicy. Thursdays are made for pot pies. Hands down the best pot pie I have ever had! The crust is super flaky and buttery. The inside contains fresh ingredients, season really well, chicken is tender. Easy and quick to order on a later Saturday afternoon...the lady at the window was super nice! Only several folks were waiting for food, but it was a rainy cold day, so I'm sure there's probably a line when the weather is better. Shrimp po boy was good, I would share next time because I think if this sandwich sat, it would definitely be soggy. Then add on the Shrimp Jambalaya. Fast service of our order delivered to our outside table and great easy listening music playing just loud enough in the background but easily able to hear each other and have conversations across the tables.
