Great local winery with plenty of seating, wine to choose from, and friendly service! On a weekday, it is pretty quiet and on weekends it gets pretty busy. There is seating outdoors, and plenty of space! You'll likely be met at the door by a friendly greeter - Nancy is amazing and helpful! My husband and I visited Williamsburg Winery during our Thanksgiving-week holiday and decided to do the 8-glass wine tasting. From the very first pour, we could tell the tasting was going to be generous and by the time we reached our eighth glass, we were definitely feeling tipsy. LOL We especially appreciated how the Winery has crafted its offerings over decades: from its historic vineyard on the Wessex Hundred estate to its reputation for elegant Virginia wines made with a strong sense of place. They offer reds, whites, dessert wines, and more. Along with our tasting, we did enjoy the charcuterie box. Now i will say that box was not worth the $22 paid. Everything was delicious inside; it was just the portion was tiny. In short, it felt like the perfect holiday outing: relaxing, indulgent, and charming. Also, the decor there was so cute and i loved all the Christmas decorations. We ended up buying five bottles to take home! I've been a regular at WW for twenty years that when I moved to VA. So well before I yelped. Since Covid I had not been back until recently at a Yelp Event. But for whatever reason I'm unsure why I never wrote a positive review for a great place. The Williamsburg Winery users many of their grapes from out of state. It's a common practice. The Governor's White is there most popular wine and is one that uses imported grapes. The grounds has a new addition that I visited. It's an outdoor patio type space for events. They also have their Gabriel Archer cafe that I have not tried since 2018. Williamsburg Winery offers a full service line up of wine and tastings are available. With the holidays approaching it's great time to consider them and they will ship. Finally, another space on the grounds I have never checked out is their fancy hotel. The Wedmore Hotel is used for all kinds of events, assume wedding being the most in season. However, check them out if you have plans to travel in the city. Maybe a Colonial Williamsburg trip, or Colonial Williamsburg. Way, way overdue and my apologies. read more

My wife and I really enjoyed the selection wines here. We ended up buying 2 bottles to go home with. We had the charcuterie with our wine and it was tasty, but the portion size is very small. We did the wine tasting and the staff was really helpful guiding us through each sample. Everyone was friendly and made the experience enjoyable. If you are a wine lover, you must check out this little gem on the outskirts of Williamsburg. The Williamsburg Winery is deep back down a windy road, with the vines and grapes growing around your surroundings. Once you turn the corner, you'll approach the winery, Wedmore Place - their hotel, and the Gabriel Archer Tavern. When you walk into the winery, you enter through the retail shop, which has some of the nicest staff to welcome you. From there, you make your way into the tasting room. You can purchase flights, or wine by the glass. The cool part is that you can take your flight outside to their pavilion. The perfect spot to enjoy some great wine! I personally love the rosé. It's crisp and so refreshing. Perfect for a warm spring day! Walking the property is a must. It goes so far back, filled with trails and a cute little pond surrounded by picnic tables. Will be bringing a little basket of charcuterie for my next visit with my girlfriends. And the best part?! They are dog friendly, outdoors of course! Nothing like being able to have a relaxing spring day and include my doggo! That's a huge bonus, especially if you're traveling through and have your dog with you! The grounds are beautiful and I would have loved to have a glass of wine here if the girl working there (evening of 10/8/25) had been willing to serve us. We checked the hours on the website. It said they closed at 7. It said nothing about a last call except under the special holiday hours. We would not have gone out of our way to come here if we thought we would arrive too late to actually enjoy wine. The drive from the entrance to the actual tasting room is long. We got to the bar and started to look at the wine menu to pick our wines. The girl behind the bar then told us that last call was at 6:30 and so she couldn't poor us any wine, only sell us bottles. I looked at the time. 6:32. But fine. Finicky, especially since we were probably on the property before 6:30 given the long drive from the gate, but fine. Thems the rules. So I was fully prepared to buy a $49 bottle of cabernet franc (their most expensive red) for my mother-in-law and myself while my husband and father-in-law purchased cans of beer. We also had every intention of being out by 7 so we could go grab dinner elsewhere. My mother in law then had the good instinct to ask if they would actually open the bottle for us and give us glasses. The girl hemmed and hawed and asked if we wanted to drink it there like that was unusual. No, the car. Obviously we wanted it there. So I said "that was the plan." She responds that she is about to do the dishes but she can give us plastic cups and we can sit outside. She must have seen my face because she hastily added "or you can sit in here." Yes. Please sell me a $49 cab franc so I can drink it out of plastic cups in a place where I am clearly not wanted. It wasn't the plastic - it was the insult. We walked out, no purchase made. Postponed dinner, went to Billsburg Bewery instead. Highly recommend. Open until 10, view of the marina, lovely staff, delicious beer. Happy that's where we ended up. Virginia has plenty of nice vineyards. I don't need to go here again. Ever. read more

Very disappointed in our visit. It was more of a run down bar experience then a nice winery experience. It was loud, wine was not good. Service was terrible. Greeter looked miserable and want helpful. Crackers we bought were overpriced and stale. They didn't have, at least that we could tell, their original wine lineup available. Pleasant tasting room but disappointing wine. We visited Williamsburg Winery on a Saturday afternoon in the summer, and it was about a third full. The tasting room has dark wood paneling with prints of various maps of wine regions decorating the walls. There is no outdoor seating that we could see. I tried the red wine flight. None of the wines were repulsive, but there was nothing that I would be excited to drink again. Overall, I've enjoyed better wine at more scenic locales in Virginia than Williamsburg Winery. read more

Stopped in for a tasting with the wife. We were looking forward to this for a few weeks and the wine did not disappoint. We tried two different flights and both were good. We even walked away with three bottles we felt were excellent. Now the facilities were not what we were expecting. The tasting room is very bland, with little to no ornamentation. We were hoping for something that matched the charm of Williamsburg. They also don't provide water or crackers to cleanse your palette between drinks. They are happy to sell you some crackers ($7.00). Just not what we were expecting. How much would it cost to purchase a large bag of oyster crackers and provide each guest with a small amount? My partner and I took a weekday to ourselves and visited the winery for tasting. The service was absolutely wonderful. Our sommelier knew their various wines and made wonderful suggestions based on our individual palette preferences. At the end of the tour and tasting we enjoyed some light snacks. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual we didn't feel rushed at all. The staff were super friendly and helped me quickly purchase one of the wines my partner loved without him knowing as a surprise. We even were lucky enough to enjoy a late lunch at the restaurant across the path. We will definitely be back again to enjoy this local treat. My husband and I booked a reservation at Gabriel Archer Tavern to celebrate an exciting new chapter in our lives, and it could not have been a more perfect evening. The tavern itself is warm, welcoming, and beautifully designed, with a dining room that immediately makes you feel relaxed and cared for. We enjoyed a bottle of Gabriel Archer Reserve and a perfectly prepared hanger steak. The chefs are truly creating something special there. Every part of the meal felt thoughtful, elevated, and memorable. What made the night absolutely exceptional, though, was the service. Jenna was our server, and she was simply outstanding. She guided us through the experience the way an old friend would if they were hosting you in their home for dinner and wine. Even with a busy dining room, she made us feel like we were the only table she was taking care of. Honestly, from watching her interactions, she seemed to make every table feel that way. The winery should be incredibly proud of the level of hospitality, dining experience, and cuisine they are offering. The other servers were just as warm, polished, and engaging, carrying themselves with professionalism while also making everyone feel like they truly belonged there. This used to be one of my favorite places to visit. They used to offer cheap winery tours and I just loved the vibe of it. I was excited to visit after so many years living outside of VA. The tours are now crazy expensive and leave a lot to be desired if you book the highlights tour. The highlights tour was basically the one that used to be very cheap. They say the tour will take about 1.25 hours, but could have been completed in 30mins honestly. There's not a ton to see and you only taste a few wines - again, at any other winery this would have max been 30 minutes for what you see and experience. Will I go back? Not for a tour. read more

We visited here on a Tuesday afternoon around 3 during happy hour which runs from 4 to 6 pm. On happy hour they had 3 whites and 4 reds; I am not sure if this rotates out. The happy hour was $5 a glass and regular price is roughly $9 per glass. So great variety. We first tried two flights which were also extremely good pours and a great variety for roughly $21 a flight. All pours were generous and the tasting room here has high tops to choose from along with a U shaped bar. The one recommendation I would suggest would be light bar food or charcuterie boards, foods that you can graze on from the local markets. However we made it work and they have a freezer in which we selected a nice Merlot cheddar, picked up a bag of crackers and grabbed some Swiss chocolate and we were good to go. Service was great and wish to give a shout out to Tracey, she was attentive, great conversation, a walking historian and passionate about what she does. We signed up for the 8/2/25 Rose & Croquet advertising chilled Rose , The Wiley Bar, Swimming pool, tea sandwiches, pastries, none of this existed except Croquet but the lawn wasn't mowed so this also was a disaster, the Winery blamed the event people guess they should have mowed the winery lawn also. Great day trip excursion. I have nothing but good things to say about Williamsburg Winery - decent wines, beautiful grounds, and excellent service. Since our trip was a bit last-minute, we did not have an opportunity to tour the winery. *Maybe next time.* For our tasting pleasure we went with the Virginia Sampler Flight and the Reserve Flight (I might be a bit off with the names of the flights). Many of the selections from the flights were not my cup of tea (technically, glass of wine ) because they were a bit too sweet for my liking. That said, I did enjoy the 2017 Adagio from the Reserve Flight. The prices for the 4-wine sampler flight were $17-24, which is a pretty good deal. Also, the flights come with a souvenir glass. Our host (short blond-haired woman) was pretty awesome especially bc the winery was short-staffed. Actually, I appreciated her letting us know that service would be delayed. One tip: if you want to tip your server/host (at least in the outside pavilion), bring cash to vineyard. Unfortunately, you cannot add a tip to any charges on your card and there isn't an ATM on the grounds. read more

We were having a nice afternoon at the winery when I attempted to climb the stairs into the building to use the rest room. Unfortunately, there was NO RAILING for the stairs -- I got to the top step (of 3 or 4), lost my balance and fell backward since there was NO RAILING to grab. Fortunately for me (not for her so much), I fell onto my sister and did not hit my head on the sidewalk. I was not hurt but my sister fractured her wrist. We looked around as we left and NONE of the steps had RAILINGS! HOW IS THIS COMPLIANT WITH ADA Regs?? We will not return (the wine was just OK) because of this MAJOR safety concern. My friends and I have been here a few times and it's always a great experience. Tucked into the country area of Williamsburg, it has a cozy atmosphere right outside the hustle of Hampton Roads.
