Decided to spend my Sunday in Williamsburg discovering some breweries. This was our first stop and would consider coming back. This establishment is located across from a marina and the view is very relaxing. It has indoor and outdoor seating but this particular day, there was a private event taking place outside. We ordered several beers and a slushy and everything was consumed and enjoyed. They offer a variety of merchandise for sale and also offer kid friendly drinks. There is no table service so you have to go to the counter and order. The employees greeted us when we ordered but not when we arrived. If you are in the area it's worth stopping by. read more

Friends and I stopped here on a day trip to Williamsburg. It's an out of the way place, located on the water, with indoor and outdoor seating. It was pretty crowded when we arrived, but we were able to find a parking spot. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a duo playing music on the stage. After purchasing our beer, we found seats in a shady area adjacent to the stage. We enjoyed our beverages while listening to the music and looking out over the water, which was very relaxing. What a lovely spot to enjoy a beer. We arrived around 6:45, just as the sun was setting. The outdoor seating area overlooking the marina was really beautiful with that lighting, and there was also a screened in outdoor seating area with café lights that looked really cozy and inviting at night. The interior tasting area, less so - very casual. The beer selection was thoughtful and varied, a little something for everyone (a brown ale, a sour IPA, etc etc). They also made a point of having cocktails and non-beer options. Staff were really friendly and accommodating re samples, sizes, etc. Plus they stay open until 10 which is shockingly late for the area. All in all it was seamless, tasty, and good vibes. What a nice place with a great location nestled right near the marina. We visited this brewery while attending a group bike ride hosted by a bike alley in Williamsburg. I had no idea that this location was a part of the stops on our way back from riding. I am so glad it was and we were able to experience a brewery. We otherwise would've missed. There is truly something for everyone in this brewery they have beer and their house made cocktails for non-beer drinkers things such as lemon drops martinis and the like. I simply asked the brewery tenant for their sweetest beer since I am not a bear drinker, and he nailed it on the first pick. The beer was so good and refreshing almost similar to a cider beer. Last weekend, I joined up with some friends from a social group to this place in Williamsburg. This brewery has been open since 2017 looking over the marina. It is a beautiful spot where you can sit either inside or outside overlooking the view. I hardly travel to this area so finding another hidden spot is a huge plus. And the decor is really pretty. How was the visit you may ask? I joined the group in the evening where it was a bit chilly and you get a very nice view of the marina. Minutes later, we were able to snag a few tables inside where it was a bit warmer. Before that, I ordered a beer. Their newly released Fresh Harvest Strawberry IPA. Very good stuff. You can definitely taste the flavors in this one. I also ate some chips as food so that yours truly wouldn't leave on an empty stomach. This righ here was definitely worth trying. A very cozy spot overlooking the marina with a chilled vibe and staff making sure you're in good hands. You'll see me again here soon :) read more

Fast service and able to taste before committing to any beers. Came here for a Father's Day's treat for my hubby who enjoyed a good stout with a Nitro brew called the Ghost Wind Stout and the head was spectacular. I got the Betty Hefe which is a Hefeweizen so tasty. Hubby then tried two and went for the Planet 4 Red Ale. The first one was too hoppy. We enjoyed the indoor ac and though we wished we could face the opposite direction, the waterfront, at least we didn't get overheated. Overall a great place for beers then we strolled outside where there was a huge crowd and music with two food trucks. One food truck was sold out at 5:30 pm while the other, the Hungry Pug was still open. Yummy but we were all full from our beers. Next time. read more

There red beer was amazing!! Everyone we brought loved the beer they chose. What really makes this place stand out it's the ambiance. Very nice covered outdoor patio, the have a great dock if you are coming by boat and the food trucks are great. I had a pulled pork sandwhich with macaroni salad. It was all so good. I wish I liked this brewery more, but it felt pretty mediocre. Upon arrival, the dicey parking situation was apparent. I'm not even sure how you'd reach their asphalt lot. We parked by the trees behind the food truck and walked through the dirt path. This part isn't the brewery's fault but, for context, my good mood soured as I exited the car and started walking toward the taproom. A guest who was leaving didn't bother to leash their dog, and it charged at me from their car. I'm not a fan of dogs I don't know racing toward me, so I turned around and it launched itself onto my back as I yelled to the owner that I "didn't like random dogs on me." Nada on the apology front from its moronic human. Leash your dogs, folks. I tried to shake that off and walked into the brewery. A girl immediately waved to take my order. I selected a flight ($10) and then my mom teetered over what she wanted. She asked for a sample of the sour, which was provided, but then we were just awkwardly standing there for a few minutes, as the girl started on other people's flight orders instead of asking if that's what she wanted. A guy asked if we'd been helped and I said "half." My mom asked if she could have a taster sized glass for the sour - nope, and no half pours either. Only a 16 oz draft ($7), which she didn't finish. From there I gripped my flight and tried to find an open table on the deck. No luck -- all full. The fire pit section had one open table, so we grabbed that. Unfortunately no one turned on the fire pit and I didn't really feel like hunting for a staff member. All the others were on. Least it wasn't freezing out. The main reason why I'm giving 3 stars was the beer itself. The classic lager was what you'd expect, and the Miami Weisse sour was pretty good too, but the others (dunkel and kolsch) were not appealing at all. Once done, I didn't see a glass return outside, so I brought it back to the bar inside. The staff member who took it from me sounded super grateful about that - I'm guessing people typically just drink and leave? This was an okay stop after visiting Jamestown, but I wasn't overly wowed by the experience. It's likely nicer in the spring/summer, as it sits on a marina and seems like it'd be a picturesque scene. read more

We visited Historic Jamestown the second week in August and were so pleased to find Billsburg Brewery just outside the entrance. It is set on the water where we were able to enjoy our drinks. Billsburg is a no-frills establishment that provides great beers and views for all that visit. The one downfall is that during busy times the facilities and accommodations can make for a challenging experience. From a high level, this place has a LOT going from it. We noted there were probably a dozen beers on tap, with some of their seasonal varieties available via large format/can in the cooler. They range from the light and easy drinking to the complex sours and dark beers, so there is no need to worry about being able to find something that will be of interest to you regardless of your favorite profile. Beers of note were the Heffe as well as the Hazy IPA (Tourist Trap) for our group. They were both light, crisp, and easy to drink on a hot July day. We only stayed for two pints so we did not get through a bulk of their offerings but they were all well-balanced and very drinkable. There is a downside to this experience though, and that is primarily the space where you can sit and/or park. The parking lots are small and while there are spill-over lots it can be tough to even get into those on a very busy evening. I think there are some lots close by and require a walk, but if that is the case you're likely going to have a tough time trying to find a place to sit. With most of the seating being outdoors due to COVID there is minimal seating available. We did not have an issue but there have been a few times that our friends haven't been able to sit down and it becomes a walk along the marina. As we were leaving there were some hovering people waiting to nab our table, which was not ideal as none of us are overly fond of being hovered over. But, it's the price to pay for some really nice views of the marina and being off the main drag or tucked back in an industrial park. It feels like a family get-together rather than a brewery or institution. Overall, it's a cool place with great views and beers. However, if it is a particularly busy day it's going to be tough to find a place to park and/or sit as they are not outfitted for large groups and overly busy afternoons/evenings with the inside being shut down due to COVID. read more

The brewery was very spaced out. Lots of seating options, even options with a lake view! The beer was delicious & they provide a $1 off military discount, which was greatly appreciated! The food from the Hungry pup was tasty. I got the warm pretzel with beer cheese. It was filling and delicious. Perfect food to complement my beer. I liked the multiple seating spaces with fire pits. It kept me warm on the cold night that I visited. The only thing that would make the place better would be if there was low music playing outside to mask the silence. It would also be nice if the patio area with the water view had more heaters. It was still a little cold for a winter day. Other than those small critiques, the brewery was great. This was on our on stops on the brewery tour that we did in the area. There are a lot of breweries in small area. This place is pretty nice. They have a bar inside with some indoor seating. There is also a deck for seating overlooking the James River and they had a tent up with tables under it. It was Saturday and there was also a food truck there which was pretty good. I had a flight and the classic lager was the best in my opinion. There is a place for cornhole to be played and a ferry schedule is posted... so apparently you can also get here by ferry. This location is also dog friendly... there were a ton of dogs there on Saturday. This place is right next to the jamestown settlement so if you are close to there... stop in for a beer! read more

If you haven't been to Billsburg, this is a must go-to brewery! I've been going to Billsburg since they opened and they just keep getting better and better. The location is killer. There is plenty of room to enjoy your time there. I encourage everyone to bring lawn chairs, especially on the weekend. I have been there when they are as busy as they get and they do a wonderful job to make sure you enjoy your time and the process for getting a drink is quick. There is almost always a band or great music, and the water front property is unbeatable. I love that they have added to their drink menu, since I recently brought a friend who doesn't drink beer. Beers are always solid, but we had an incident today where a rude waiter decided he needed to make a scene and he folded my 25 year old friend's ID in half, bending it so hard that it eventually cracked. My 25 year old friend was incensed (because he's 25) and asked why the waiter did that to which the reply was: "mate that's the worst fake ID I've ever seen." We asked to speak to the manager, and the waiter claimed that he was the manager and proceeded to double down on his destruction of the ID and tell us that we're lucky to have not been kicked out. My friend looked up his birth certificate showing he was over 21 and presented it to the waiter, to which the waiter replied "oh sorry, better luck next time." I will never be going back to this establishment. read more

I came here on Memorial Day, it's pretty much the only brewery in Williamsburg that I haven't tried yet. There were maybe a hundred people sitting outside, enjoying the nice weather and a beer or 2. There definitely wasn't much room for parking, most people actually had to park over by the Jamestown museum. Sadly they were not doing tastings, so I just had to order beers that I'd never tied before. I had 2 beers, the classic lager and the drifted pale ale. The lager was one of the better ones I've had in a while, it had some good body and ABV on it. Kind of a straw like color. I tend to be a pale ale drinker but this one was pretty ordinary. Malty, nothing too memorable. Star off for involving political and human issues in versions of their logo that was on display. That said, nice location and pretty decent beer. read more

Beer & water views?! I'm in! Tried their seasonal tart cherry and strawberry berliner, but this is definitely for those sour beer fans. I switched to their Pale Ale and was much happier :). They allow you to bring your own blankets/chairs and have plenty of picnic tables around. There was a food truck there but they also allow you to order delivery.
