Alewerks was a decent stop for live music on a Friday night, but it landed kind of in the middle for me. The breath itself has a relaxed, casual atmosphere and a good selection of beers. It is a good place for a group of people. Service was fine, but fine is probably the one word I'd use to describe the experience. The beer selection was fine, they tasted fine, the music was fine, everything was fine, but with so many breweries in the area and other places to grab a drink, I think I was expecting a little more from Alewerks. Anyway, not a bad experience by any means and I can see why locals enjoy it, but for me it's a solid 3-star. It was enjoyable for the stop, but not enough to come back to when I'm back in the area. read more

I wanted to love this brewery, but the atmosphere created by some of the regulars makes it feel more like a private club than a welcoming brewery. Tables are routinely "claimed" with food and personal items even when nobody is sitting there, and seats are seemingly reserved for people who aren't even present. As a paying customer, it's frustrating to walk into a public business and feel like you're intruding on someone else's members-only space. The culture here has become so cliquish and inhospitable that it resembles a VFW or Lions Club more than a community brewery. Instead of being greeted by an inviting environment, newcomers are left feeling like outsiders who don't belong. What's especially telling is that this reputation apparently extends beyond this brewery. I've spoken with patrons and employees at other local breweries who immediately knew which place I was talking about and laughed knowingly about the "regulars running the place" and the unwelcoming atmosphere they've created. Breweries thrive when they foster community and make everyone feel welcome. Unfortunately, this one seems to have allowed a small group of regulars to dominate the space and dictate the culture, creating an environment that discourages new and returning customers alike. read more

Here for the 20th Anniversary. Fun band playing, great BBQ (Old City food truck), fantastic beer. Served fast, in spite of a long line.

Hot food is ordered and cooked outside at a food truck. Drinks are ordered and served inside at the bar. The view is of the marina. Service is sort-of fast food service. Order it, pick it up. Then find a table to sit down to eat and drink. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. Tasty! Cook well! read more

Was staying in the area on vacation and kept seeing how packed it was at Aleworks so one day I decided to stop by. Inside it's small but they have a hub beer garden with plenty of outdoor seating. I happened to be here on the trivia night and it was crowded. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Although it was busy I didn't have to wait long to place my order at the bar. I got the Chesapeake IPA. All of their beers appear to be brewed in-house. It's a nice place to have a drink and hang out with friends. Only drawback is that they don't serve any food onsite and nothing close by to eat so make sure you eat before you come. read more

Awesome draft brew selection with plenty of take home options. Friendly & accommodating staff.

Such a great place to visit. This place works hard at staying up to date, improving amenities, and providing unique and delicious while giving great tasting beer and 'stuff'. We went recently and I'm a HUGE fan of the tin tackers that some breweries sell. They recently made a new logo. Man I'm such a sucker for these things. The reason I bring this is up because of the fact that it's a small example of them working to keep up with the dynamics and change of the beer industry. Another example of them working on improving is the outdoor seating. They've started to put vinyl shelters to accommodate for the cold days. It allows us to bring our dog AND still be warm. Overall, anytime we're in the area, this is a MUST visit. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out! Food Taste: 5 Overall Service: 5 Value of food to cost: n/a Facility: 5 Ambiance: Rustic brewery with a definite wood/old-timey feel inside. It's a staple of the area and is practically a 'must' visit if you're into beers. Repeat customer: yes Dog Friendly: patio read more

Good selection of beer. Nice indoor or outside seating. Food available. Order inside pickup up outside at the food truck. Nice atmosphere.

Stopped here to "waste away our day" while on vacation with our young son. The beers are really good and don't hesitate to try the pickle, great pickle flavor on the front end with no pickle flavor in at the end, a great summer beer. My wife enjoyed the pale ale while our son had the Mott's apple juice while we enjoyed snacks and played some chess at the outdoor seating. The staff was great, very attentive to our son as well as provided a great enjoyable atmosphere. read more

Friendly pour staff. So many choices. The OG's which are great and always some seasonal stuff too. Nothing ever disappoints when we are here. Our favorite brewery when we were in town for nearly 10 years. Right now the tangerine and ring of fire I highly recommend. read more

Plenty of parking. We were visiting from out of town and had dropped into the L.A.B. location the day before and were excited to come here. There was a good amount of overlap in the beers but it was a cozy brewery that seemed poplar for the locals. Plenty of seating outside and a good amount inside. I opted for the Pumpkin Ale which has a good pumpkin flavor and a good amount of spice but not overly Pumpkin for those who may enjoy strong Pumpkin Ales. They have a variety of merchandise and a food vendor outside. Some board games as well. Overall a cool place and would definitely be a brewery I would go to regularly if I lived in the area. They do offer flights up to 6 beers as well. read more

Food and great beer with an ambiance suited for family, friends and anything you have in mind... Alewerks for the win. Their variety of beer can match anybody's taste. Alewerks Brewing - Pumpkin Porter - Breweries Near Me - Williamsburg, Virginia

Alewerks is a good place to go if you're looking for a drinks and good company. As a person who doesn't like beer, there were two sour options to pick from, which were very good. I picked the passionfruit and guava flavor, which was smooth and not hoppy at all (just what I wanted). There is also soda for people who don't want alcohol. While it can get loud and busy inside, the company and atmosphere are welcoming. I was able to easily make conversation with the people next to me. On Tuesdays, Alewerks has trivia, which is a blast. Sit at the bar or towards the side or back in order to be away from the speaker. read more

I have been coming here for years. About 4 months ago all the bar staff left. I just came today for the pumpkin festival. I have seen this place way busier than today but the staff can not get it together. The line wraps around the bar (never ever seen it like this). One person working the line. One person constantly serving the 8 people sitting at the bar. The manager seems lost in what to do as she talks to people and runs in circles but not helping. This place has really gone down hill from what it use to be. read more

This is our 4th time here and we throughly enjoy this brewery. Awesome outdoor seating area and inside is nice too! Nice staff who answer any questions about the beers they have. The husband has enjoyed a variety of their beers and they just released their pumpkin ale for the season and he really liked it. As a non beer-drinker I enjoy that they do offer some speciality sodas in bottles as well as water. They also sell a few snacks and usually have a food truck on-site. They also have bands and do trivia on Tuesday evenings. Check out their Facebook page for up-to-date happenings. read more

Alewerks Brewing - Piping hot pretzel comes with spicy beer cheese and mustard. But they're so good you might just eat them plain. - Breweries Near Me - Williamsburg, Virginia

I love the beer and the atmosphere. We shopped the outlets and drove across the street to rest, have a great beer, and sample the just ok taco food truck of the weekend. With ample seating inside(no pets), in the courtyard (pets) and in the front of the building (pets). Plenty of help inside keeps the lines non existent. They always have some new rotation, but when it's gone, it gone. I didn't get to try the pickle beer. They have aged varieties in the larger take home bottles, but not on tap. The choices are always good and it's such a relaxing way to finish the day. read more

After living in two big beer scenes (Richmond Va and The Twin Cities MN) I'm always leery but curious when checking out breweries in areas I feel I'd least expect. Especially home (Williamsburg born and raised). As a matter of fact, I was floored when I first found out about breweries popping up in Williamsburg. The beer is good albeit a bit standard in profile. I tried a custom flight with their Pumpkin Ale being my first of the season which has a nice spice flavor and pleasant pumpkin aroma on the nose. The Giant Peach was crisp with a nice hop and fruity body and their "I like your style" lactose sour with passionfruit and guava was quite tasty. Atmosphere is really nice. I thought the inside was cute and perfect for a chilly day, while their patio space is ample and dog friendly. If you like craft and are in town I for sure say to check them out. read more

Drove over 300 miles on our way to the outer banks. They had posted the live band wouldn't be there. So we show up and don't see the food truck that was supposed to be there. I love pretzels, especially homemade pretzels. We get inside and they are out of pretzels more than 2 hours before closing. My wife got a flight and said the beer was alright. Staff was ok. Could have been better. read more

Alwerks is a Hampton Roads legend. They always have quality beers on tap my favorite being the Protocol porter. The main location in Williamsburg is a cool vibe with a reminiscent feeling of a pub in the English countryside. Service is always top notch even when busy. In cooler months the outdoor tent covered area is perfect for kids and dogs to join. Most nights there are food truck options and of course pub fun with trivia nights. Any brewery tour in Williamsburg must start with alwerks and. read more

We stopped into this Brewery while in WIlliamsburg for the week. The boyfriend has had Alewerks before, and wanted to take the opportunity to see where it was being made. The place was crowded when we rolled in. There was so much outdoor space with families, dogs and kids running around. There was music playing outside. They had a pizza food truck vendor outside with a constant line of people. We made our way through the "in" marked door and socially distanced our way to the front of the order line. While the boyfriend ordered - I was able to spot one of the 'first come first serve' seats inside, where it was a bit quieter. To give a disclaimer, I am not particularly a beer drinker myself. I do enjoy seasonal beers - such as the Alewerks pumpkin, which is what we got. We sat for a round or two, talking, inquiring about the mugs on the wall from regulars and people watching. When we finished up, we brought our glass up and ordered some beer to-go. This brewery was really more of a destination - with such an active crowd at night. I would def suggest families or friends looking for a fun place to hang out on the weekend - to give this place a try. read more

I never bother with reviews anymore, but this place deserves five stars! This place still gets high marks. Its popularity has grown since I was last here. Fortunately there is a parking lot area right across the street from it. They had a food truck out front. Music was playing over some speakers. They had some people selling stuff(which looked to me like mostly yard sale stuff). It was a happening Saturday afternoon here! There is a fair amount of indoor seating and some seating outside with umbrellas. I like their Weekend Lager but they have a red that i want to try next time. This is one of the best places that we visited on this day! Definitely stop in for a few beers! read more

There's one thing that I mine better than Alework's Pumpkin Ale... It's the Christmas Ale. While I understand that spiced beer isn't for everyone, I love how Aleworks brews them. Had to go to their brewery to pick it up. It was out of stock at the Outlet Tasting Room. They put up a large tent to help protect customers from the elements. They do a good job cleaning tables between patrons. Signs are on tables that let people know if it has been cleaned. Dogs are welcome outside but since they have a kitchen, they are not allowed inside. Half price growler fills on Mondays. read more

The beer was good here but the staff was BEYOND rude. There was a table of regulars next to me who you could tell were close with the staff. When the young man bartender wasn't busy flirting with a woman at the bar, he only served the regulars and paid me no mind. I waited about 15 minutes before he even looked in my direction and when I asked for a sample, he rolled his eyes. Feels more like a frat house than a brewery. This is the typical Brewing place. The place is warehouse type. Nothing is fancy. They practice COVID-19 guideline. They don't let you take off your face mask at the counter. So I grabbed the beer and took it to the table and drank. I love sour beer. The lady at this shop recommended Chocolate Mainstream credentials. I love it. First you get sour taste and then get chocolate flavor. It is awesome. read more

We actually went to the satellite location at the Williamsburg outlets and it was quaint, and perfectly located next to Columbia-a haunt of mine. Plenty of seating and this location had the small brewery feel to it. There was a collection of cute handmade mugs on the wall I am assuming is for the regulars. They have a smaller tap selection which is great for me. I had a half pour of the Pumpkin Latte which was like a nice Fall Ale with a taste of coffee. A very unique and delicious flavor. My fiancé had her normal IPA -a flagship variety and as always it was great. Alewerks has become a staple in the region for a reason-it great! read more

Alewerks has some of the best craft brews around! My husband and I are big fans of their fall/winter brews- coffeehouse stout & the pumpkin. I love that I can find their beer at not only at their main location but also at their satellite store + other local specialty & grocery stores. If you like heavy beers, they have them! One of their heaviest is their pancake stout... heavy like a plate full of breakfast! Even though they only distributed our favorites during fall/winter, their supply will still linger throughout the year that we can get our fill before they run out. They are awesome!! read more

I'm combining my review for both locations; the Alewerks Brewery itself and the satellite location in the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. Wonderful brewery to visit and spend time in. Good selection of beers, friendly and knowledgeable staff, plenty of entertainment, and awesome food trucks. Abundant seating (in or out) and lots of cool merchandise to choose from.
